Italian football league Serie A champions Inter Milan could see a change in ownership over non-repayment of debt around $434 million. The debt is owed by Inter's Chinese owner Suning group to US Investment fund Oaktree and the US firm can take control of the club after the debt repayment deadline passes on Tuesday (May 21).

The Chinese group had taken a loan of about $300 million at an interest rate of 12 per cent to pay the staff and players during the Covid pandemic. The club was kept as collateral for the loan by the Suning group.

As the US lender waits for the repayment of debt, news agency AFP, citing a source said that a 'not event a single euro' has been paid to Oaktree yet.

Steven Zhang, Inter's president, on Saturday (May 18) accused the US Investment firm of 'jeopardising' &nbsp;the club's financial stability with unspecified legal actions. It also said that Oaktree is obstructing negotiations of full repayment. Zhang's reportedly has been in negotiations with another US fund Pimco to repay Oaktree.

Club's CEO Giuseppe Marotta, however, said that the situation was 'stable'. Marotta made the comments after Inter's last league game on Sunday (May 20) in San Siro.

Inter won the the league title for the second time in four years. The club has won seven trophies along with two European finals ever since Suning group took over in 2016.

They, however, were hit hard by the pandemic and had reported a loss of about $93 million in 2022/23 season before facing a loss of $151 million and $266 million in two seasons prior to that. The losses were majorly due to closure of stadiums and most of the football clubs faced the heat of financial crunch during the Covid times.

Inter's local rivals AC Milan were also taken over by another US fund, Elliot Management, in 2018 after failure of repayment of loan by Chinese businessman Li Yonghong.

Marcus Rashford paid for his poor season as the Manchester United forward was left out of England boss Gareth Southgate's provisional 33-man squad for Euro 2024 on Tuesday (May 21).

Marcus Rashford paid for his poor season as the Manchester United forward was left out of England boss Gareth Southgate's provisional 33-man squad for Euro 2024 on Tuesday (May 21). Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and Chelsea skipper Reece James were among the other big names to miss out on the squad, which must be trimmed to a maximum of 26 before the tournament in Germany begins. Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton was rewarded for the Eagles' brilliant end to the Premier League season with his first-ever call-up. Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite and Liverpool duo Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones are the other uncapped players selected with Southgate short on defensive options. England face Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 3 and Iceland four days later before jetting off for Germany, where they are one of the favourites to win the tournament. The wealth of options available to Southgate in attacking areas means Rashford misses out on a major international tournament for the first time since the 2014 World Cup. Rashford has scored just eight times in 42 appearances for his club this season and only recently returned from injury. "These are difficult calls. With Marcus, I just feel other players in that area have had better seasons. It's as simple as that," said Southgate. In a social media post, Rashford said: "Wishing Gareth and the boys all the best." Henderson's injury-hit move to Ajax in January after a short spell in Saudi Arabia has not done enough to earn the 33-year-old a place. "Henderson's given himself every chance. The determining factor was the injury he picked up in the last (international) camp," added Southgate. "He missed five weeks and wasn't able to get back up to the level of intensity. It was a difficult decision." The same goes for Jadon Sancho despite his renaissance on his return to Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund on loan from United. Raheem Sterling and Kalvin Phillips were also overlooked despite shining for Southgate in the past at major tournaments. Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, who fired Manchester City to the Premier League title on Sunday, and Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka are included as part of a fearsome collection of creative talent to supply England's all-time top goalscorer Harry Kane. The Three Lions have come agonisingly close to glory under Southgate before, losing the Euro 2020 final on penalties to Italy. England also reached the 2018 World Cup semi-finals and the last eight of the 2022 World Cup. "Are we one of those teams who can win? Of course," said Southgate. "I'd be an idiot if I said no, but if I said yes, that doesn't mean there's not a lot of work ahead of us. "They know what is possible, they know what they've won at club level and what that's taken. You can see cup football, you have to navigate game-by-game." Squad: Goalkeepers: Jordan Pickford (Everton), Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal), Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), James Trafford (Burnley) Defenders: Kyle Walker, John Stones (both Manchester City), Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire (both Manchester United), Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton), Jarell Quansah, Joe Gomez (both Liverpool), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Kieran Trippier (Newcastle), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Lewis Dunk (Brighton) Midfielders: Declan Rice (Arsenal), Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace), Conor Gallagher (Chelsea), Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones (both Liverpool) Forwards: Harry Kane (Bayern Munich/GER), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa), Ivan Toney (Brentford), Jarrod Bowen (West Ham), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), James Maddison (Tottenham), Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid/ESP), Phil Foden, Jack Grealish (both Manchester City), Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace)

Premier League: Manchester City beat West Ham to become first team to win four straight titles

Arne Slot has been officially announced as the new head coach of Liverpool Football Club. Slot will be replacing Jurgen Klopp who departs Anfield after nine successful years at the helm.&nbsp;

Slot has signed a three-year contract and will formally take up the position on June 1, 2024, subject to a work permit, the club confirmed. The 45-year-old will be joining the Merseyside Reds from Eredivisie&nbsp;club Feyenoord after a compensation deal worth $12 million was agreed between the clubs, according to reports.&nbsp;

During his time in the Dutch league, Slot led&nbsp;Feyenoord to the league title in 2023 and was named Eredivisie Manager of the Year on two occasions. Last month, he helped engineer a 1-0 victory in the KNVB Cup final against NEC Nijmegen.

Prior to the Feyenoord job, Slot showed his coaching credentials as the AZ Alkmaar head coach where he led them to second place in the table, trailing leaders Ajax only on goal difference when the Dutch season was cancelled due to COVID-19 in 2019-20.

Slot will become the first Dutch manager to coach Liverpool - the historic English club that has seen the likes of Bob Paisley, Bill Shankly, Sir Kenny Dalglish and Rafa Benitez in the past.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Slot will be filling massive boots as he takes over from Klopp who became part of the fabric of Liverpool - the city and the football club.

<h2>Klopp departs Anfield on high note</h2>

Klopp signed off as the Liverpool manager on a winning note on Sunday (May 19) after his side beat Wolverhampton Wanderers&nbsp;2-0 in his final Premier League match.

Arne Slot has been officially announced as the new head coach of Liverpool Football Club. Slot will be replacing Jurgen Klopp who departs Anfield after nine successful years at the helm. Slot has signed a three-year contract and will formally take up the position on June 1, 2024, subject to a work permit, the club confirmed. The 45-year-old will be joining the Merseyside Reds from Eredivisie club Feyenoord after a compensation deal worth $12 million was agreed between the clubs, according to reports. During his time in the Dutch league, Slot led Feyenoord to the league title in 2023 and was named Eredivisie Manager of the Year on two occasions. Slot will become the first Dutch manager to coach Liverpool - the historic English club that has seen the likes of Bob Paisley, Bill Shankly, Sir Kenny Dalglish and Rafa Benitez in the past. Slot will be filling massive boots as he takes over from Klopp who became part of the fabric of Liverpool - the city and the football club. <h2>Pep to leave Man City?</h2>

"The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying,"&nbsp;Pep said post the match.

"We have talked with the club&nbsp;and&nbsp;my feeling is that&nbsp;I want to stay now. I will stay next season&nbsp;and&nbsp;during the&nbsp;season&nbsp;we will talk. But after eight or nine years, we will see."

On Sunday, Pep won his sixth Premier League title in eight seasons after taking&nbsp;charge.

'I am closer to leaving than staying': Pep Guardiola hints at potential Man City exit after 2024-25 season

Liverpool owner John Henry's wife Linda Pizzuti has clapped back at Manchester City's social media team after the latter won a fourth successive Premier League title but aimed a subtle dig at the Merseyside club.&nbsp;

After Pep Guardiola's team won the final match of the season against West Ham United to beat Arsenal to the trophy by two points, City's social media account posted, “THIS MEANS FOUR” with four trophy emojis.

The caption was an apparent reference to Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold's statement from early in the season when he suggested that winning the title at Anfield "meant more" due to City's spending and the 115 breaches of financial rules levelled against it.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

"Looking back on this era, although they've won more titles than us and have probably been more successful, our trophies will mean more to us and our fanbase because of the situations at both clubs, financially. How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we've done it, probably means more to our fans," said Trent at the time.&nbsp;

Pizzuti understood the subtle dig and took to her Instagram account. She posted a picture of the Man City jibe and captioned: “A sincere congratulations to Man City - Premier League Champions! “So much respect for this tremendous achievement.”

She ended her message with a subtle jab of her own writing: “Thanks for thinking of us on your special day.”

While City won the title, Liverpool bid farewell to manager Jurgen Klopp who departed the club after nine successful years, where he won every silverware available.&nbsp;

“For us, it is the Liverpool way. We do it properly and do it the right way; we don’t overspend, we always spend what we earned either on the team, a stand or a building," said Klopp in his parting message.

“This is a healthy club. You can say Barcelona are not healthy, but they are still up there. I don’t think we could do it that way. It is really healthy, a very vital club with a wonderful training ground, sensational stadium, financially not bad.

While Guardiola has cemented his legacy as one of the greatest managers to ever grace the sport, the legitimacy of his titles has been shrouded in controversy with the 115 charges looming large over the club. A court hearing is scheduled for later this year with the verdict expected to come out next year.&nbsp;&nbsp;

‘Thinking of us...’: Liverpool owner’s wife hits back at Manchester City after Premier League win

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has asked the team to not be satisfied with the second-placed finish in the Premier League season on Sunday (May 19). Arsenal was beaten by two points at the hand of Manchester City who went on to win their record fourth consecutive PL title - a first in the league history.

Arsenal, who beat Everton to finish with 89 points, needed City to lose to West Ham but the eventual champions won their game 3-1 and finished the league at 91 - two points ahead of Arsenal. Arsenal's 89 points are third highest in the league history to finish without the title.

"Now it is time to have a break, think, reflect, and please keep pushing. Keep inspiring this team. Don't be satisfied because we want much more than that and we are going to get it," Arteta said after the game against Everton.

"If we do what we have to do, we're going to be closer and at the end we'll win it. When, I don't know. But if we keep knocking and being that close, in the end it will happen," he added.

"No one has to explain what the level is because I was there four years every day and I know what we have to do if we are going to reach there. Not only for one season, but for the rest, but we are on the right path, the right journey and to see the evolution so quickly happening, I haven't seen it before," &nbsp;Arteta said of champions City where he served as a coach under manager Pep Guardiola for four years.

"So, we're on the right trajectory and now we need really to pull the teeth and bite into it because we really want more," he further added.

Manchester City midfielder has taken a dig at Arsenal's 'mentality' after the Gunners lost the Premier League (PL) title by two points on Sunday (May 19). City won their fourth consecutive PL trophy with a 3-1 win over West Ham United while Arsenal had to contend with a second-place finish after a hard-fought 2-1 win against Everton at the Emirates Stadium. Speaking after the match, Rodri pointed out that when Arsenal came knocking at Etihad, they played for a draw, which eventually cost them the title. "To be honest, I think it's in here [points at his brain]. It's the mentality. [There are] great players all over the league, all over the clubs. Arsenal also deserve [to win], they did an unbelievable season, but I think the difference was in here [points to his head again]," said Rodri. "When they came here, they faced us at the Etihad, I saw them and said: 'Ah, these guys, they don't want to beat us, they just want a draw.' And that mentality, I don't think we would do it the same way," he added. Also read | 'I am closer to leaving than staying': Pep Guardiola hints at potential Man City exit after 2024-25 season Man City's sixth title A win at the time would have given the necessary cushion to Mikel Arteta's men to push for the title. However, the Gunners played an ultra-defensive game by setting up a low block. While the decision was pragmatic, it certainly didn't age well as City went on another marauding, unbeaten run. "And we caught them. In the end, if you give us one point, we will win the last seven, or eight games even though it's so tough. So I think [the title win] comes down to mentality," said Rodri. It was Man City's sixth title in the last seven years, showcasing the domination Pep Guardiola had conjured up during his time in England. The Spanish manager won a historic treble last year and would now be hoping to do the domestic double by winning the FA Cup final against cross-city rivals, Manchester United, on May 25. While Guardiola has cemented his legacy as one of the greatest managers to ever grace the sport, the legitimacy of his titles has been shrouded in controversy with the 115 charges looming large over the club. ‘They don’t want to beat us’: Rodri takes dig at Arsenal for conceding Premier League title

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi will leave the Premier League club by mutual consent after their final game of the season against Manchester United on Sunday.

De Zerbi took charge at the Amex Stadium in September 2022 and led Brighton to their highest ever top-flight finish when they came sixth in 2022-23.

"We have mutually agreed to end Roberto's contract at a time that suits both parties allowing us the earliest opportunity to plan for next season, and Roberto plenty of time to consider his next move and his future," Brighton chairman Tony Bloom said on Saturday.

"Roberto has given us two excellent seasons of service in which he has led the club to new heights, not least our first ever European campaign which will live long in the memory of Albion fans."

The Italian, previously in charge at Shakhtar Donetsk, earned widespread admiration after taking Brighton into Europe for the first time in their history, advancing to the Europa League last 16 before losing to Roma 4-1 on aggregate.

But the Seagulls struggled to replicate that fine form during an injury-plagued campaign that will peter out with a mid-table finish after Sunday's match against United.

"I am very sad to be leaving Brighton, but I am very proud of what my players and staff have achieved with the support of everyone at the club and our amazing fans in the past two historical seasons," De Zerbi said.

"We have agreed to end my time at Brighton so that the club and I can continue to work in the way that suits each of us best, following our own ideas and visions, as well as our work and human values."

De Zerbi had been linked with replacing Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool before Feyenoord boss Arne Slot confirmed he will move to Anfield in the close-season.

The 44-year-old is reported to be the top choice for the Bayern Munich job, with Thomas Tuchel leaving the German giants at the end of the season.

<h2>An intense two years</h2>

Bayern have failed with moves for Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso and Austria coach Ralf Rangnick, while their former manager Hansi Flick is another potential candidate.

De Zerbi, hired to replace Graham Potter after his move to Chelsea, was reportedly frustrated by Brighton's philosophy of developing young players and then selling them at a significant profit.

Moises Caicedo, Leandro Trossard, Marc Cucurella, Alexis Mac Allister and Robert Sanchez were among the stars who left Brighton to join bigger clubs in De Zerbi's reign.

De Zerbi is believed to feel he could not take Brighton any further without being able to keep his best players.

"I have really enjoyed an intense and challenging two years working in the Premier League, not least competing in four major competitions this season," he said.&nbsp;

"Leaving now provides me with time to take a break before deciding on my future plans."

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna is believed to be high on Brighton's list of candidates to replace De Zerbi.

McKenna has led Ipswich into the Premier League after successive promotions from League One and the Championship.

"Roberto has given us two excellent seasons of service in which he has led the club to new heights, not least our first ever European campaign which will live long in the memory of Albion fans." The Italian, previously in charge at Shakhtar Donetsk, earned widespread admiration after taking Brighton into Europe for the first time in their history, advancing to the Europa League last 16 before losing to Roma 4-1 on aggregate. "We have agreed to end my time at Brighton so that the club and I can continue to work in the way that suits each of us best, following our own ideas and visions, as well as our work and human values." De Zerbi had been linked with replacing Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool before Feyenoord boss Arne Slot confirmed he will move to Anfield in the close-season. The 44-year-old is reported to be the top choice for the Bayern Munich job, with Thomas Tuchel leaving the German giants at the end of the season. Massimiliano Allegri was sacked by Juventus on Friday after exploding with anger during his team's midweek Italian Cup triumph.

Juve said in a statement that they had dismissed Allegri for "certain behaviour during and after the Italian Cup final that the club deemed incompatible with its values".

The Serie A club won their 15th Italian Cup on Wednesday night but Allegri burst into a rage, first being sent off in the final minutes after ranting at match officials and then dismissively waving away sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli during the post-match celebrations.

He is also alleged to have manhandled and threatened the chief editor of newspaper Tuttosport before the post-match press conference.

Juve had already been widely rumoured to be replacing Allegri with Bologna coach Thiago Motta in the summer, but were pushed to announce their decision with two matches of the season remaining.

Juventus sit fourth in Serie A after collecting just 15 points in their last 15 league matches and are at Bologna on Monday night, with the two teams level on 67 points and already qualified for next season's revamped Champions League.

The Turin giants did not specify whether they had dismissed Allegri with just cause, a move which would potentially save the club from paying Allegri the remaining year of his contract, worth around seven million euros before bonuses.

The Italian Football Federation's disciplinary tribunal has launched an investigation into Allegri, who on Thursday was given an automatic two-match ban in the cup for his straight red card but could receive further punishment.

There will be no U-turn at Bayern Munich for Thomas Tuchel&nbsp;as&nbsp;the outgoing manager confirmed his departure on Friday (May 17) in a pre-match press conference.&nbsp;Tuche was earlier reported&nbsp;to be&nbsp;open to staying at the German club despite his departure&nbsp;being confirmed&nbsp;in early February.&nbsp;However, those rumours were brought to an end on Friday when Tuchel addressed his final press conference.&nbsp;

<h2>Tuchel shuts the door on staying at&nbsp;Bayern</h2>

“The feedback from recent weeks was the foundation for us having a discussion to stay and continue together… but we&nbsp;couldn't&nbsp;reach an agreement. I&nbsp;won't&nbsp;name the reasons. The agreement from February stands, I&nbsp;am leaving Bayern,”&nbsp;Tuchel said in his final press conference for Bayern Munich ahead of the Hoffenheim match on Saturday.&nbsp;

The German was appointed Bayern Munich manager in March 2023, but with mixed results and poor form at the turn of the year, the management pulled the plug and decided to part ways with him.

However, the German side&nbsp;since&nbsp;February&nbsp;was trying hard to convince several targets but failed on each occasion.&nbsp;

The&nbsp;list of&nbsp;potential candidates included former boss and now Germany national team manager Julian Nagelsmann, former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Ragnick and Bayer&nbsp;Leverkusen’s&nbsp;Xabi Alonso. However, all of them turned down the chance to become manager,&nbsp;leaving Bayern with no option but to discuss a potential stay for Tuchel.&nbsp;

Despite&nbsp;the announcement of&nbsp;his departure in the summer, the&nbsp;50-year-old continued to impress and led Bayern to the semifinals of the Champions&nbsp;League&nbsp;where they beat Arsenal in the quarterfinal.

On the other side, Tuchel was also interested in staying, according&nbsp;to some reports, after Manchester United decided to pull out of negotiations in signing him as the new manager.

Thomas Tuchel confirms Bayern Munich exit despite U-turn rumours; Manchester United move hangs in balance

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has taken a dig at players from his former side, calling the management to transfer them all except Bruno Fernandes. According to Rooney, Fernandes is the only quality player in the current Manchester United squad as the team struggles on all fronts. The Red Devils beat Newcastle United in a thrilling 3-2 win at Old Trafford on&nbsp;Wednesday,&nbsp;but are out of contention for European qualification next season, sitting eighth in the Premier League standings.

<h2>Rooney heaps praise at&nbsp;Fernandes</h2>

"You have to build around Bruno.&nbsp;He's&nbsp;the one player with quality. He has got fight in him. I think you keep the young players and Bruno. I think it has to be a massive clearout, it&nbsp;has to be.&nbsp;It's&nbsp;not going to be in one year&nbsp;but&nbsp;it's&nbsp;got&nbsp;to be over the next couple of years,"&nbsp;Rooney said on Sky Sports on Wednesday.

"To compete in this league, they need better players and&nbsp;don't&nbsp;get me wrong, these players are good players and Premier League players.&nbsp;But to compete with Manchester City, with Liverpool, with&nbsp;Arsenal&nbsp;they need better players."

United will close their Premier League season on Sunday away at Brighton and are in danger of missing out on European football qualification for the first time since the 2014-15 season. They&nbsp;currently&nbsp;sit eighth in the standings with 57 points and need to better&nbsp;Newcastle’s&nbsp;result to finish in the Conference League spot.&nbsp;

Premier League: Wayne Rooney takes dig at Man Utd players, laments Bruno Fernandez as only QUALITY player

Amad Diallo scored his first Premier League goal and assisted on another to power Manchester United to a 3-2 victory over Newcastle United on Wednesday at Old Trafford in a battle between teams fighting for a European berth next season.

Erik ten Hag's team remained eighth in the table but level on 57 points with seventh-placed Newcastle. Chelsea are sixth on 60 points after beating Brighton &amp; Hove Albion 2-1 earlier on Wednesday to take a big step toward clinching a European berth.

"Obviously the job isn't finished yet," Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes told Sky Sports. "We still have one game in the Premier League then the biggest game of the season, the FA Cup final (on May 25 against holders Manchester City).

"It has been a tough season," he added. "The table shows that and we are all aware of that. The fans have been amazing and behind us all season. We all appreciate what they have been doing for us. We want to do better and do differently and (the fans) deserve that."

Kobbie Mainoo capitalised on Newcastle's appalling defence to get the home side on the scoreboard in the 31st minute. Diallo spotted the 19-year-old unmarked near the penalty spot and Mainoo -- kept onside by a half-asleep Kieran Trippier -- turned and fired home.

Anthony Gordon drew Newcastle level in the 49th minute when he slid to stab in a cross from Jacob Murphy. But Diallo put Ten Hag's team back on top eight minutes later when Fernandes' corner was headed out, and Diallo, prowling alone just inside the 18-yard-box rifled in a shot which keeper Martin Dubravka had little chance of saving.

Rasmus Hojlund, who entered the game in the 82nd minute, scored two minutes later when he cut inside two defenders and slotted home from 16 yards, holding up a finger as if to silence the crowd.

Newcastle's Lewis Hall pulled one back in injury time, but Ten Hag's men held on to end one of the most miserable home seasons in years with a victory.

Ten Hag addressed the Old Trafford crowd after the game, thanking them for being the "best supporters in the world." "As you know it wasn't an easy season, but one thing remained constant and that was the backing of you for the team," Ten Hag, whose job has been the subject of speculation amid his team's struggles this season, said to cheers from the red-clad crowd.

"This season is not over yet. First we go to Brighton where we travel for three points (on the final day of the season on Sunday) and then we go to Wembley. And I promise you those players will give everything to get that cup and bring it to Old Trafford."

If Ten Hag's men win the FA Cup, they will play in the Europa League next season. However, if they fail to win the Cup, they will need to finish seventh to secure a place in the Europa Conference League.

Manchester United, who have never finished lower than seventh in the Premier League, need to better Newcastle's result at Brentford on Sunday to move up to seventh place.

Both teams had numerous scoring chances and Newcastle screamed for a penalty late in the first half after Gordon was taken down in the box in a tackle that left a gaping hole in the back of his sock. After a VAR review, no penalty was given.

"I don't understand the point in VAR? (Sofyan) Amrabat fouled me and it's a clear penalty," Anthony told Sky. "Get rid (of VAR) or get better."

<h2>Chelsea down Brighton</h2>

Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku struck either side of halftime to earn Chelsea a 2-1 win over Brighton &amp; Hove Albion on Wednesday, sending the London club into the final day of the Premier League season in sixth place.

Palmer turned in Marc Cucurella's cross with a powerful header in the 34th minute to claim the 22nd league goal of his outstanding debut season and put the visitors in front at the Amex Stadium. Nkunku side-footed home Malo Gusto's cutback in the 64th minute to double Chelsea's lead, but they then lost substitute Reece James to a straight red card for a petulant kick out at Joao Pedro in the 88th minute.

Danny Welbeck snatched a goal back for the hosts when he latched on to Pedro's cross in the seventh minute of stoppage time, ensuring a frenetic end to the match, but Chelsea held on to win a fourth consecutive league game for the first time this season.

Cucurella, who was given a torrid reception by the home fans on his return to his former club, thought he had earned a penalty when he went down following a corner in the 15th minute, but the decision was overturned after a VAR check.

Victory sent Chelsea into their final match against Bournemouth on Sunday with hope still alive of qualifying for the Europa League, despite a horrendous start to their campaign.

Mauricio Pochettino's men began the season with one win in their first six league matches and three in their first 10, but are finishing strong, with just one defeat in their last 14 league outings.

Brighton, who are 10th, end the season at home to Manchester United.

Thomas Tuchel likely to stay at Bayern Munich as Manchester United hopes fade: Reports

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann ignored the late claims of Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels and Julian Brandt when he named a largely unchanged squad for the 2024 Euros on Thursday.

2014 World Cup-winner Hummels and midfielder Brandt have been key figures in Dortmund's run to the Champions League final, where they will face Real Madrid, but Nagelsmann preferred to stick with the team which beat France and the Netherlands in March.&nbsp;

Bayern Munich's Leon Goretzka was also left out of the hosts' 27-man squad -- it will be reduced to 26 after the June friendlies against Ukraine and Greece -- while his teammate Serge Gnabry was not considered because of injury.

Eliminated at the group stage in the past two World Cups and at the last 16 at Euro 2021, Germany had a poor 2023, winning just three of 11 games which cost then coach Hansi Flick his job.

After losses against Turkey and Austria to end 2023, Nagelsmann named a heavily changed squad for the March friendlies, including bringing in players from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen and in-form Stuttgart.&nbsp;

Germany impressed as a result with wins over 2022 World Cup finalists France and the Dutch.

Nagelsmann has now brought in Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck and Stuttgart goalkeeper Alex Nuebel for Heidenheim's Jan-Niklas Beste and injured Fulham 'keeper Bernd Leno.

Bayern's Leroy Sane, who missed the March friendlies through injury, has also been added to the squad. &nbsp;

The announcement, made in downtown Berlin near the famous Brandenberg Gate, included three members of Germany's 2014 World Cup winners from Brazil: goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, forward Thomas Mueller and midfielder Toni Kroos.&nbsp;

Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will remain captain despite Neuer's return, which Nagelsmann had already confirmed prior to the announcement.

The German FA had already announced 18 of the squad on a one-by-one basis via social media and other sources, reducing the speculation over the final make-up.

The Euros start on June 14, with Germany facing Scotland in Munich.&nbsp;
