Inter Milan moved a point behind Serie A leaders Napoli on Friday after seeing off Parma 3-1 at the San Siro ahead of a key Champions League clash at Bayer Leverkusen.

Brilliantly taken goals either side of half-time from Italian internationals Federico Dimarco and Nicolo Barella and Marcus Thuram's neat volley in the 67th minute were enough for the reigning champions to close in on Napoli.

Simone Inzaghi's Inter are also level on 31 points with second-placed Atalanta, who could claim the provisional league lead with a win over AC Milan later on Friday.

Napoli host Lazio on Sunday night after being dumped out of the Italian Cup by their capital city opponents on Thursday.

"We scored some great goals today... The only disappointing thing is that we conceded. We didn't deserve to given how we played over the 94 minutes," said Inzaghi to DAZN.

Inter are unbeaten in 14 matches in all competitions and travel to Leverkusen on Tuesday knowing that a win would almost certainly ensure direct qualification to the last 16 with two matches remaining.

Parma, who netted through a late Matteo Darmian own goal, sit 12th in Serie A, but Inzaghi still picked his best available XI even with a big European fixture around the corner, selecting captain and star striker Lautaro Martinez for his 300th Inter appearance.

Martinez has struggled for form this season and as well as having a first half strike rightly ruled out for offside the Argentina forward also wasted three good opportunities to score.

The 27-year-old had his head in his hands when he poked wide a great chance one-on-one with Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, six minutes after Thuram lashed home his 10th league goal of the season.

France attacker Thuram was born in Parma where his father Lilian played for five seasons, winning the UEFA Cup and Italian Cup in 1999 as part of a star-studded outfit which also featured Italian icons Gianluigi Buffon and Fabio Cannavaro.

Lionel Messi named MLS Most Valuable Player after record-setting season

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami will kick off FIFA's new 32-team Club World Cup when the Major League Soccer side take on Egypt's Al Ahly in the June 15 opener, the draw for the tournament revealed on Thursday.

Brazilian team Palmeiras and Portugal's Porto complete Group A alongside Argentina World Cup winner Messi, whose Miami team were handed a spot by FIFA after finishing top of the regular season standings in MLS.

Messi's former Barcelona team-mate, Brazilian Neymar, will have a reunion with La Liga rivals and European champions Real Madrid in Group H.

Twelve European clubs will feature in the tournament with Manchester City facing Juventus in Group G of a tournament which FIFA president Gianni Infantino said would "start a new era in club football".

Paris Saint-Germain were drawn in a tough group with Atletico Madrid, Copa Libertadores winners Botafogo of Brazil and Seattle Sounders.

FIFA has had to deal with some scepticism over the need for the tournament and the chances of it capturing the imagination of fans but there was plenty of support for the competition among those at the draw.

Club officials and former players gathered for Thursday's draw and US President-elect Donald Trump sent his best wishes in a video message before the ceremony, which took place during a 90-minute live broadcast from a television studio in Miami.

"The event is going to be incredible," said Trump in his message where he praised Infantino as a "winner".

"We've known each other a long time and I'm so honoured to have this kind of relationship because soccer is going through the roof as everyone knows," he added.

The USA will co-host the 2026 World Cup with Mexico and Canada.

The final of the tournament will be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 13.

FIFA had struggled to find sponsors and broadcasters for the new tournament but on Wednesday announced a global deal with streaming company DAZN, who will show the games for free.

The world governing body has faced opposition from some in the game over the new tournament.

FIFpro and the European Leagues body filed a joint complaint to the European Commission against FIFA over the introduction of the tournament into the international match calendar.

Opponents of the new tournament have said it adds further congestion to an already crowded schedule and increases the workload of players.

But there was little but backing for the competition from the clubs and leagues who will be represented next year.

"We are very supportive of this tournament, We are excited," said PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who is also chairman of the European Clubs Association.

Al-Khelaifi said the tournament was a better way for clubs to perform in the USA than in pre-season friendly tours and would help PSG to spread their brand.

There was also support from Don Garber, commissioner of Major League Soccer and vice-chair of the World Leagues Association.

"The tournament took time to generate all the interest that you are seeing here today," said the American.

"Good things come to those that sort of put in the work and FIFA put in the work and we're going to have lots of our stadiums involved,&nbsp;

"There are 100 million fans who follow what we call league (club) soccer and they're going to be interested to see MLS teams and Mexican teams and see teams from all Europe, South America and the rest of the world, so I'm excited about it, I really am," added Garber.

FIFA Club World Cup 2025: Neymar's Al Hilal to face Real Madrid; Messi's Inter Miami take on Egypt's Al Ahly

Ange Postecoglou slammed Tottenham's flops as furious fans turned on the Australian and his spluttering side after Bournemouth condemned them to a shock 1-0 defeat on Thursday.

Dean Huijsen netted in the first half at the Vitality Stadium to leave Postecoglou's troubled team with just one win in their last six games in all competitions.

The 19-year-old defender's first goal in English football after his close-season move from Juventus exposed the flaws in Tottenham's error-prone defence.

Lacklustre Tottenham were fortunate not to lose by a bigger margin as Andoni Iraola's side wasted several chances to increase their lead.

Tottenham's sixth Premier League defeat this season was another setback for the under-fire Postecoglou after last weekend's disappointing 1-1 draw at home to 10-man Fulham.

"It's not good enough. We again fell into the trap of starting the game really well and then we conceded a really poor goal," Postecoglou said.

"It's disappointing. We have this propensity to shoot ourselves in the foot when we should be controlling games.&nbsp;

"It's something we've done consistently and we always pay the price for it."

Having wasted a golden opportunity to qualify for the Champions League last season, Postecoglou is beginning to hear criticism of his overly-attacking tactics and this dismal display will add to the Australian's doubters.&nbsp;

Tottenham are languishing in 10th place, six points adrift of the top four heading into Sunday's London derby against second-placed Chelsea.

"The fans have every right to be disappointed. I got some pretty direct feedback with the way that we are going at the moment and that is rightly so," Postecoglou said after he was jeered by Tottenham fans after the final whistle.&nbsp;

"I didn't like what was being said because I'm a human being but you're going to cop it.&nbsp;

"All I can say is I'm determined to get it right and will keep fighting until we do."

Ninth-placed Bournemouth have now beaten Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham at home this season.

Dominic Solanke scored 21 times for Bournemouth last term before moving to Tottenham in the close-season.

The England striker wasted a good chance to enjoy a scoring return to his old club when he blazed over from 10 yards after muscling through on goal.

Bournemouth's Evanilson nearly punished sloppy defending from Radu Dragusin and Destiny Udogie with a close-range effort that Fraser Forster pushed away for a corner.

But Tottenham's reprieve was short-lived as the Cherries took the lead from the resulting set-piece in the 17th minute.

Marcus Tavernier curled his corner towards the far post and Huijsen easily escaped Tottenham's woeful marking to head home from five yards.

<h2>Postecoglou angst</h2>

Tottenham were vulnerable at the back whenever Bournemouth attacked with intent and Forster had to make a superb save to repel Tavernier's close-range header from Milos Kerkez's cross.

Postecoglou finished the first half shaking his head in frustration and his dejected expression was unchanged after the break.

Postecoglou sent on Tottenham captain Son Heung-min, who has only scored four times this season, and the South Korean's first touch was a goal disallowed for offside.

James Maddison curled narrowly wide before Kepa Arrizabalaga saved well from Pedro Porro's volley.

Ryan Christie smashed against the post from Evanilson's pass and Tavernier drilled just wide as Bournemouth threatened to blow Tottenham away in the gale-force winds lashing the south-coast.

In Thursday's other game, Alex Iwobi scored twice as Fulham took advantage of a howler from Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen to beat the Seagulls 3-1 at Craven Cottage.

Marco Silva's men were gifted the lead in the fourth minute when Verbruggen, under minimal pressure, tried to pass to Carlos Baleba on the edge of the area, with Iwobi intercepting and slotting into the empty net.

Brighton levelled in the 56th minute when Baleba fired past Bernd Leno from 25 yards.

But Fulham went ahead again with 11 minutes remaining when Andreas Pereira's corner skimmed off Calvin Bassey and went in off Brighton's Matt O'Riley for an own goal.

Iwobi's curler sealed the points with three minutes left as Fulham moved up to sixth place after their third win in their last five league games.

Premier League: Tottenham rocked as teenager Dean Huijsen seals Bournemouth's shock win

The draw for the expanded FIFA Club World Cup takes place in Miami on Thursday, offering a first glimpse into the fine detail of a tournament that has been viewed with indifference or even outright hostility across parts of the football world.

Thirty-two star-studded club teams will battle it out in gleaming state-of-the-art arenas in what is effectively a curtain-raiser for the 2026 World Cup taking place a year later in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

In theory, the new-look competition ought to be an enticing prospect that sells itself: a month-long football festival, the first large-scale club tournament to feature teams from all corners of the globe.

Yet for many, FIFA president Gianni Infantino's passion project is a tournament too far, an unwelcome addition to an already crowded global calendar that exhausted players say has pushed them close to breaking point.

The loudest antipathy towards the tournament, and FIFA, has come from Europe.

In October, an umbrella grouping of top European leagues, together with the players' union, FIFPro, filed a legal complaint to the European Commission accusing FIFA of abusing its position over its handling of the international fixture calendar.

<h2>Player frustration</h2>

Javier Tebas, the chief of Spain's La Liga, has been one of the Club World Cup's most outspoken critics, telling Infantino in October to cancel the tournament, citing apathy from broadcasters and opposition from clubs.

"Mr President, you know you have not sold the broadcast rights for the Club World Cup, you know you have not sold any sponsorship rights," said Tebas. "Scrap the Club World Cup. It is not needed by the players, the clubs or FIFA."

However, on Wednesday, FIFA announced it had reached a deal with British streaming service DAZN to broadcast all 63 games free to view worldwide.

A source close to the negotiations told AFP the contract was worth around one billion euros ($1.05 billion).

Players though have spoken of frustration at an ever-lengthening fixture schedule that leaves them with fewer opportunities for rest and recuperation.

Manchester City and Spain star Rodri, the winner of this year's Ballon d'Or, warned in September that players were "close" to striking over the calendar, citing the demands imposed by this season's expanded UEFA Champions League followed by the Club World Cup.

"If it keeps this way we will have no other option," Rodri said of possible industrial action. "It is something that worries us."

FIFA though has pushed back at the criticism forcefully, insisting its calendar was approved by the FIFA Council following consultation from all continents including Europe as well as FIFPro and league bodies.

The world football body also took aim at leagues in Europe who have opposed the tournament, accusing them of "acting with commercial self-interest and hypocrisy" while preferring a calendar "filled with friendlies and summer tours."

<h2>'Something historic'</h2>

Infantino meanwhile has brushed off the criticism, insisting the launch of the expanded club tournament will usher in a new era for world football.

"The FIFA Club World Cup next year will bring the magic of a national team (FIFA) World Cup into the realm of club football, and this tournament will be the start of something historic, something that will change our sport for the better, and for future generations, who will come to love it as much as we do," Infantino said last month.

The opportunity to embrace the historic opportunity touted by FIFA ultimately tempted DAZN, whose chief executive officer Shay Segev called the broadcasting arrangement a "groundbreaking deal".

The tournament itself will take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025, with the opening match hosted by Miami's Hard Rock Stadium and the final taking place at the MetLife Stadium in New York -- the venue for the 2026 World Cup final.

Europe will provide the largest contingent of teams, with 12 sides including Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan taking part.

South America will field six teams, with Africa, Asia and the CONCACAF region receiving four slots each. Oceania will be represented by New Zealand's Auckland City, while host nation the US has an additional slot, controversially awarded to Lionel Messi's Inter Miami despite the team being bundled out in the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs this year.

Also Read: WADA sidelines own investigators over China athletes doping In theory, the new-look competition ought to be an enticing prospect that sells itself: a month-long football festival, the first large-scale club tournament to feature teams from all corners of the globe. Player frustration Javier Tebas, the chief of Spain's La Liga, has been one of the Club World Cup's most outspoken critics, telling Infantino in October to cancel the tournament, citing apathy from broadcasters and opposition from clubs. "Mr President, you know you have not sold the broadcast rights for the Club World Cup, you know you have not sold any sponsorship rights," said Tebas. "Scrap the Club World Cup. It is not needed by the players, the clubs or FIFA." However, on Wednesday, FIFA announced it had reached a deal with British streaming service DAZN to broadcast all 63 games free to view worldwide. "It is something that worries us." FIFA though has pushed back at the criticism forcefully, insisting its calendar was approved by the FIFA Council following consultation from all continents including Europe as well as FIFPro and league bodies. The world football body also took aim at leagues in Europe who have opposed the tournament, accusing them of "acting with commercial self-interest and hypocrisy" while preferring a calendar "filled with friendlies and summer tours." 'Something historic' Infantino meanwhile has brushed off the criticism, insisting the launch of the expanded club tournament will usher in a new era for world football. "The FIFA Club World Cup next year will bring the magic of a national team (FIFA) World Cup into the realm of club football, and this tournament will be the start of something historic, something that will change our sport for the better, and for future generations, who will come to love it as much as we do," Infantino said last month. FIFA set to reveal expanded Club World Cup schedule amid hostility

Negotiations to establish a landmark global treaty to tackle plastic pollution have collapsed, with delegates from nearly 200 nations failing to meet a self-imposed deadline after a week of intense talks in Busan, South Korea. The negotiations, marked by stark divisions, will now continue at a later date.

The main difference was over production cuts on plastic.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h2>A crisis of consensus</h2>

For a week, delegates from nearly 200 nations wrestled with how to stop plastic waste. The talks were aimed at addressing the millions of tonnes of plastic waste that flood ecosystems annually, with microplastics now found everywhere from Mount Everest to the Mariana Trench—and even within human bodies.&nbsp;

However, progress stalled due to disagreements between "high-ambition" nations advocating for a globally binding agreement to limit production and phase out harmful chemicals and a coalition of oil-producing nations resisting these measures, insisting instead on a focus solely on waste management. &nbsp;

The session's chair, Luis Vayas Valdivieso, acknowledged the impasse late Sunday, stating, "a few critical issues still prevent us from reaching a comprehensive agreement."

"These unresolved issues remain challenging and additional time will be needed to address them effectively," he said.&nbsp;

A draft text released during the talks reflected the unresolved disputes, offering a menu of options rather than a unified path forward. &nbsp;

<h2>Duelling visions for a solution</h2>

Rwanda, speaking on behalf of dozens of countries, spoke of "strong concerns about ongoing calls by a small group of countries to remove binding provisions from the text that are indispensable for the treaty to be effective."

"A treaty that lacks these elements and only relies on voluntary measures would not be acceptable," said Rwandan delegate Juliet Kabera to extensive applause from supportive delegations. &nbsp;

On the other hand, Saudi Arabia, backed by Russia, Iran, and others, argued that the problem lies with pollution, not plastics themselves.&nbsp;

"If you address plastic pollution, there should be no problem with producing plastics, because the problem is the pollution, not the plastics themselves," said Saudi delegate Abdulrahman Al Gwaiz.

La Liga: Kylian Mbappe admits penalty miss 'big mistake' as Athletic Bilbao beat Real Madrid

Liverpool's Premier League lead was cut to seven points by Arsenal and Chelsea after the Reds conceded a 90th-minute equaliser in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Newcastle on Wednesday.

Chelsea thrashed 10-man Southampton 5-1 to go second on goal difference ahead of Arsenal, who beat Manchester United 2-0.

Manchester City snapped their seven-game winless run by beating Nottingham Forest 3-0 to go fourth.

Mohamed Salah's second-half double was not enough to extend Liverpool's seven-game winning run in all competitions as they failed to win for just the third time in 21 games under Arne Slot.

Twice the league leaders were forced to come from behind at St James' Park as Alexander Isak blasted Newcastle into a 1-0 half-time lead.

Curtis Jones levelled before Anthony Gordon restored Newcastle's lead.

Salah twice converted Trent Alexander-Arnold assists to turn the game around, taking his tally for the season to 15 goals.

However, there was a late sting in the tale as a rare error from Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher allowed Fabian Schar to squeeze in a late equaliser for the Magpies.

"He has done remarkably well for us and even today he was good. Unfortunately, he misjudged the situation," Liverpool boss Slot said of Kelleher's blunder.

<h2>Arsenal take advantage</h2>

Arsenal took full advantage by inflicting Ruben Amorim's first defeat as Manchester United boss.

Once again the Gunners were able to rely on their prowess from set-pieces to get the job done.

Jurrien Timber broke the deadlock, heading in Declan Rice's corner nine minutes into the second half.

William Saliba did not know much about the second, as he diverted in Thomas Partey's header from Bukayo Saka's corner, but the Frenchman did not care as Arsenal had the breathing space they craved.

A fourth consecutive win in all competitions confirmed Arsenal's return to form and applied a little pressure on Liverpool.

"A special day. It's a joy to play in this stadium with that energy, it's something incredible," Arteta said.

"We scored two set-pieces, but we could've scored from open play many more."

Amorim added: "The set-pieces killed the game. They can put a lot of players near the goalkeeper and it's almost impossible to fight for the ball.&nbsp;

"We already know we have to be better."

Chelsea put bottom-of-the-table Southampton to the sword at St Mary's even before the hosts were reduced to 10 men when Jack Stephens pulled Marc Cucurella's hair.

Axel Disasi's early opener for the Blues was cancelled out by Joe Aribo.

But Christopher Nkunku pounced on sloppy Southampton passing from the back to make it 2-1 before Noni Madueke added a third.

Stephens then saw red in a bizarre incident as he jostled with Cucurella from a Saints corner.

Cole Palmer made sure he got in on the act with Chelsea's fourth before Jadon Sancho's first goal since his loan move from Manchester United rounded off the scoring.

<h2>De Bruyne eases Man City crisis</h2>

City bounced back from their barren run thanks to Kevin De Bruyne's return to the starting line-up for the first time in nearly three months.

The Belgian teed up Bernardo Silva for the opening goal before firing in the second himself.

Jeremy Doku sealed a much-needed three points for Pep Guardiola's men, who are now nine off the top.

"Definitely we needed that after many games without winning," Guardiola said.

"Kevin De Bruyne was excellent. When he's fit he's so important for us. It's just one game but it was important to break this run."

Aston Villa ended their eight-game run without a win with a dominant first-half display to beat Brentford 3-1.

Morgan Rogers' wonder strike, Ollie Watkins' penalty and Matty Cash's effort made it 3-0 inside 34 minutes before Brentford's Mikkel Damsgaard got one back.

Everton thrashed Wolves 4-0 thanks to two Craig Dawson own goals in a huge clash at the bottom of the table.

Ashley Young and Orel Mangala put the Toffees 2-0 up at half-time, before Dawson's goals twice rubbed salt in Wolves' wounds after the break.

Victory lifts Everton five points clear of the relegation zone, while Wolves sink to 19th.

La Liga: Barcelona hit five as they return to winning ways at Mallorca

Cristiano Ronaldo watched on from the stands as already-qualified Al Nassr lost for the first time in this year's Asian Champions League Elite as they were beaten 2-1 in injury time by Qatar's Al Sadd on Monday. The Portuguese star, 39, was reportedly rested for the fixture in Riyadh given the Saudi club had secured their place in the knockout stages last week, with three rounds of the group phase remaining.

Ronaldo scored twice against Al Gharafa, another Qatari side, last time out, and then netted a double again in the Saudi Pro League on Friday. However, the Al Nassr captain was omitted from Stefano Pioli's matchday squad for the visit of Al Sadd. Ronaldo, who has 15 goals in 18 appearances for his club this season, was spotted at Al Awwal Park sitting alongside his mother Dolores Aveiro and his partner Georgina Rodriguez.

Al Sadd took the lead eight minutes into the second half through Akram Afif, when the reigning AFC Player of the Year raced from the halfway line onto a long ball.&nbsp;

Afif outpaced defender Mohammed Al Fatil and finishing low past Brazil goalkeeper Bento. Al Nassr drew level on 80 minutes, once Brazilian youngster Wesley's low cross was turned into his own goal by Al Sadd defender Romain Saiss.&nbsp;

However, there would be a huge sting in the tail for Al Nassr, when Afif was tripped inside the hosts' penalty area and substitute Adam Ounas converted from the spot in the 99th minute. With the defeat, Al Nassr stay third in the Western Region group stage, while Al Sadd move fourth to also claim a spot in the last 16. The top eight teams qualify for the knockout stages.

Fellow Saudi side Al Ahli remain top - even if they surrendered their 100 percent record in this year's tournament – thanks to an Ivan Toney double that secured a 2-2 draw with Iran's Esteghlal in Jeddah.

The England striker twice equalised for the hosts from the penalty spot, with the first coming deep into first-half injury time and the second converted in the 86th minute. Esteghlal had Mohammed Hossein Eslami sent off five minutes before.

It represented a second successive Champions League Elite match in which Toney has scored twice following his double last week against Asian champions Al Ain.

Cristiano Ronaldo-less Al Nassr suffer first Asian Champions League loss, go down to Al Sadd

Virgil van Dijk says much of Liverpool's phenomenal success this season is down to the players' willingness to "go to war" for each other.

Arne Slot's team have 18 wins in their 20 matches in all competitions and the captain believes the mentality within the squad is a crucial factor, just months after the departure of Jurgen Klopp.

Table-topping Liverpool beat Manchester City 2-0 on Sunday to move 11 points clear of the champions in the Premier League and they are nine points ahead of their nearest challengers, Arsenal and Chelsea.

"I think it was always going to be difficult to replace Jurgen for everything he did for us, as players and for the club, but he (Slot) has come in, done it his own way," said Van Dijk.

"Together with the staff he started working and making sure we have the quality to improve and win games.

"But he makes sure we keep working, are not satisfied, focus on what is ahead of us next and keep improving."

The Dutch international said former Feyenoord boss Slot had hit the ground running.

"He has come in and done very well so far and he has, in my opinion, inherited a very good squad not only as football players but as human beings -- guys who will go to war for each other," said the defender.

"(He has done) a lot of tactical work but at the end of the day it is about how much we want it as players."

Liverpool have won the English top flight just once since 1990 -- in 2020 -- and Van Dijk urged caution.

"I want to be there at the end of the season, that's the aim, and in order to be there at the end of the season we have to focus on what's ahead of us and not thinking about what's there in January or February," he said.

"Now it's Newcastle (on Wednesday) and (it's about) doing everything in my power and our power to be ready for a big one there as well."

Also Read: 'He'll play again this year...,' Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany on Harry Kane's potential return "I think it was always going to be difficult to replace Jurgen for everything he did for us, as players and for the club, but he (Slot) has come in, done it his own way," said Van Dijk. "Together with the staff he started working and making sure we have the quality to improve and win games. "But he makes sure we keep working, are not satisfied, focus on what is ahead of us next and keep improving." The Dutch international said former Feyenoord boss Slot had hit the ground running. "He has come in and done very well so far and he has, in my opinion, inherited a very good squad not only as football players but as human beings -- guys who will go to war for each other," said the defender. "(He has done) a lot of tactical work but at the end of the day it is about how much we want it as players." Liverpool have won the English top flight just once since 1990 -- in 2020 -- and Van Dijk urged caution. "I want to be there at the end of the season, that's the aim, and in order to be there at the end of the season we have to focus on what's ahead of us and not thinking about what's there in January or February," he said. "Now it's Newcastle (on Wednesday) and (it's about) doing everything in my power and our power to be ready for a big one there as well." Premier League: 'As football players...,' Virgil van Dijk says Liverpool players ready to 'go to war'

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany said Monday he hopes injured star striker Harry Kane will return to the pitch before the end of the year.

"There's a chance he'll play again this year," Kompany told a press conference on the eve of Bayern's German Cup last 16 clash against holders Bayer Leverkusen.

The 31-year-old forward pulled up with a hamstring tear during Saturday's 1-1 Bundesliga draw at Borussia Dortmund and will miss "a few games", Kompany said.

The Bundesliga leaders have five games before the end-of-year break including a Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk.

England captain Kane has been a key player for Bayern with 20 goals in all competitions since the start of the season.

"You can't replace him one-to-one. He's a top player. But we'll solve things different. There will be no lack of talent tomorrow," said Kompany.

"We have several options -- Thomas Mueller, Mathys Tel, Serge Gnabry, Michael Olise, Leroy Sane. Maybe not Kingsley Coman in that position.

"Harry has scored 20 goals. You can't replace that. But we have players who score goals, including Jamal (Musiala). We'll have a solution. We have enough players who can fulfil the role, even if you can't replace his goals one-to-one."

Gnabry remains uncertain for Tuesday's Cup match, having also missed the Dortmund game with knee problems but midfielder Joao Palhinha returned to training on Monday following a muscle tear picked up on international duty with Portugal last month.

'He'll play again this year...,' Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany on Harry Kane's potential return

Dozens of people were killed Sunday in clashes between fans at a football match in N'Zerekore, Guinea's second largest city, hospital sources told AFP, describing scenes of mass carnage. "There are bodies lined up as far as the eye can see in the hospital. Others are lying on the floor in the hallways. The morgue is full," one doctor said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media. He said "there are around 100 dead", with bodies filling the local hospital and morgue. Another doctor said there were "dozens of dead".

Videos circulating on social media, which AFP was unable to immediately verify, showed scenes of chaos in the street outside the match and numerous bodies lying on the ground. Angry demonstrators also vandalised and set fire to the N'Zerekore police station, according to witnesses. "It all started with a contested decision by the referee. Then fans invaded the pitch," a witness told AFP, asking that his name be withheld for safety reasons.

Local media said the match was part of a tournament organised in honour of Guinea's junta leader, Mamadi Doumbouya, who seized power in a 2021 coup and has installed himself as president. Such tournaments have become common in the West African nation as Doumbouya eyes a potential run in presidential elections expected next year and political alliances form.

- Prolonged transition -

Doumbouya seized power by force in September 2021 by overthrowing President Alpha Conde, who had placed the then-colonel in charge of an elite force tasked with protecting the head of state from such coups. Under international pressure, he pledged to hand power back to a civilian government by the end of 2024 but has since made clear he will not.&nbsp;

The military leader "exceptionally" promoted himself to the rank of lieutenant general in January and last month he elevated himself to the rank of army general. Doumbouya has presided over an ongoing crackdown on dissent, with many opposition leaders detained, brought before the courts or forced into exile.

A "transitional charter" drawn up by the junta shortly after the coup said that no member of the junta could stand in either national or local elections. But Doumbouya's backers have recently expressed their support for his candidacy in the next presidential election.&nbsp;

At the end of September, authorities indicated that elections intended to restore constitutional order would be held in 2025. Despite its considerable natural resources, Guinea remains an impoverished nation.

It has been ruled by authoritarian governments for decades. Doumbouya is one of several officers who have seized power in West Africa since 2020, along with fellow military leaders in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger. N'Zerekore, where the clashes took place in Guinea's southeast, has a population of about 200,000 people.

Dozens killed in clashes at Guinea football match, claim doctors

Mikel Arteta says Arsenal will need to be almost perfect if they are to catch runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool but feels momentum is building again after a poor run.

Arsenal, runners-up to Manchester City over the past two seasons, were expected to challenge again this year but instead Liverpool have raced eight points clear of second-placed City.

The Gunners go into Saturday's match against West Ham on a high after hammering Sporting Lisbon 5-1 in the Champions League in midweek.

Last weekend they beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 at home to end a four-match winless run in the league that cost them vital ground.

Victory at the London Stadium on Saturday would likely lift Arsenal to second in the table ahead of the Sunday matches, which includes a pivotal clash between Liverpool and City.

Arteta was asked at his pre-match press conference on Friday whether his team would have to be almost flawless to stand any chance of catching Liverpool, who have won 10 of their 12 games.

"If they continue that way, that's for sure, with the numbers they're producing and the amount of games they're winning," said the Arsenal manager.

"But the focus is on us, maintaining the consistency, especially in performances, that will give us the right to win a lot of games... this is a long run."

He said he felt momentum was building at Arsenal again after the international break.

"Winning lifts the energy and our confidence," he added. "They were two big wins for us and now it's about consistency, getting that momentum, take it further against a good opponent tomorrow and try to replicate the performance to win the game."

He added: "This is every three days so it doesn't matter what you did yesterday, it's about the next days, the next performance. Are you able to sustain high-level performance throughout the game as well because of how competitive every opponent is right now? And that's what we will try to do tomorrow."

Arsenal's uptick in form has coincided with the return of captain Martin Odegaard, who spent two months on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

Arteta said the "exceptional" midfielder had hit the ground running since his return earlier this month.

"Good players that are so consistent and so reliable, that can take the game to a different level and make the players better around them -- that's a huge quality of Martin's and he has been missed," he said.

Premier League: Arsenal must be near-perfect to catch Liverpool, says Mikel Arteta

Manchester United marked Ruben Amorim's first game at Old Trafford with a 3-2 Europa League victory over Bodo/Glimt as Rasmus Hojlund netted a double, while Tottenham were held by Roma on Thursday. United trailed late in the first half against Norwegians Bodo/Glimt, but recovered to post a second straight Europa League win since sacking Erik ten Hag, having started the campaign with three consecutive draws.

"Half of the stadium doesn't know me, I came from Portugal and I did nothing for this club. Yet the way they make me feel at home is special," Amorim told TNT Sports. Manchester United scored in the second minute of former Sporting Lisbon boss Amorim's first match as manager at Ipswich on Sunday and it took under 60 seconds for them to break the deadlock against Bodo/Glimt.

Visiting goalkeeper Nikita Haikin was put under pressure by a poor back-pass and his clearance was blocked by Hojlund, allowing Alejandro Garnacho to tap into an empty net. But United's defensive frailties were laid bare as Hakon Evjen swept in a 19th-minute equaliser and Philip Zinckernagel put Bodo/Glimt in front four minutes later.

United looked short of ideas until the stroke of half-time when Noussair Mazraoui's cross found Hojlund, who flicked the ball up with a clever touch and calmly volleyed into the bottom corner.

The hosts reclaimed the lead less than five minutes after the restart, as Manuel Ugarte squared the ball across the face of goal for Hojlund to prod home.

United survived a real scare when the referee waved play on after goalkeeper Andre Onana handled outside his area in the second half. But Amorim's men held on to give their new boss a satisfactory home debut.

In London, Spurs failed to back up their stunning weekend win over Manchester City as Mats Hummels scored in injury time to snatch a 2-2 draw for Roma.

Tottenham also made a fast start as Son Heung-min slotted in a penalty in the fifth minute after Pape Matar Sarr was brought down by Hummels.

Evan Ndicka flicked in Paulo Dybala's free-kick to level for Roma a quarter of an hour later, before Brennan Johnson restored Spurs' advantage 11 minutes before the break.

Crisis-hit Roma piled the pressure on late at the Tottenham Stadium and former Germany centre-back Hummels pounced from close range in added time.

Ange Postecoglou's Spurs now sit outside the top eight, who qualify automatically for the last 16, on goal difference.

"We should have shown a bit more composure," said Postecoglou. "We had a couple of chances cleared off the line. We sort of kept them in the game."

<h2>- Bilbao, Eintracht join Lazio at top -</h2>

Earlier, Athletic Bilbao cruised to a 3-0 win over Elfsborg to move behind Lazio on goal difference at the top of the table. The Roman club were held to a goalless draw by Ludogorets but remain unbeaten with 13 points from five games.

Eintracht Frankfurt, also flying high in the Bundesliga, have the same number of points after Omar Marmoush netted a spot-kick in a 2-1 victory over Midtjylland in Denmark.

Victor Osimhen scored his seventh goal in as many matches for Galatasaray in all competitions, but the Turkish giants slipped two points behind the leading trio after a 1-1 draw at AZ Alkmaar.

Lyon climbed into seventh courtesy of a 4-1 thrashing of Qarabag in Baku, with Georgia striker Georges Mikautadze netting an excellent double.

The Ligue 1 club sit above eighth-placed Rangers on goal difference after the Scottish giants, struggling domestically, thumped Nice 4-1 on the French Riviera.

<h2>- Chelsea march on -</h2>

Chelsea remained top of the Conference League table with a fourth straight win by beating Heidenheim, who lost their 100-percent record, 2-0. A much-changed Chelsea had to wait until six minutes after the restart to break the deadlock as Christopher Nkunku took a brilliant touch to control Jadon Sancho's cross before firing into the top corner.

The German side improved after falling behind, though, and almost equalised in the 69th minute when Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen produced a wonderful double save to deny Paul Wanner and Leo Scienza.

The two-time European champions killed the game off with four minutes left as Sancho notched his second assist of the match, teeing up Mykhailo Mudryk to drive a shot into the roof of the net after playing a one-two with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Man United's Rasmus Hojlund gives Ruben Amorim winning Old Trafford bow, Roma hold Tottenham 2-2

Liverpool are the only team with a perfect record in this season's Champions League after beating title-holders Real Madrid 2-0 in their heavyweight clash on Wednesday, with last season's runners-up Borussia Dortmund among the night's other winners. The showdown at Anfield saw Real attempting to extend a run of eight games unbeaten against Liverpool.

However, Arne Slot's Premier League leaders were too strong, with Alexis MacAllister putting them ahead early in the second half. Kylian Mbappe endured a frustrating night and squandered a chance to equalise for Madrid after an hour when his penalty was saved.

Mohamed Salah then missed from the spot at the other end but substitute Cody Gakpo headed in Liverpool's second goal on 76 minutes.

They are the sole side with five wins from five in this new-look Champions League, and are now guaranteed to advance at least to the knockout phase play-offs in February.

"You know how special it is to play against a club that won this Champions League so many times, are the reigning champions and were a pain in the ass for Liverpool many times as well," said Slot.

Real have lost three of their five matches and with six points they are currently 24th, the very last qualifying spot for the knockout phase. Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti had words of comfort for their star French striker, saying: "This is a difficult moment for Mbappe. We will support him and give him love."&nbsp;

Inter Milan sit second on 13 points, followed by Barcelona and Dortmund each on 12, with the Germans winning 3-0 against Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia.

A great goal by English youngster Jamie Gittens gave Dortmund a first-half lead, before Ramy Bensebaini headed in on 56 minutes and substitute Serhou Guirassy sealed the win late on.

- Villa, Juventus draw -

Aston Villa started with three straight victories in the Champions League but were six matches without a win in all competitions before hosting Juventus.

The game ended 0-0, with the English side denied in stoppage time when a Morgan Rogers goal was disallowed for a foul on goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio.

Villa are just outside the top eight places offering direct access to the last 16, as one of seven teams on 10 points with three fixtures remaining.

Monaco missed the chance to cement their top-eight spot as they went down 3-2 at home to Benfica in a dramatic game.

Eliesse Ben Seghir gave Monaco an early lead but the visitors were level just after the break as Vangelis Pavlidis profited from a defensive error to score.

Monaco were reduced to 10 men when defender Wilfried Singo was sent off for a second yellow, but they still retook the lead as Soungoutou Magassa fired in.

However, Benfica's numerical superiority made the difference late on as Arthur Cabral headed in on 84 minutes and Zeki Amdouni snatched the winner.

Lille closed in on securing at least a play-off spot as they won 2-1 in Italy against Bologna, who remain winless.

Belgian-born midfielder Ngal'ayel Mukau was the French side's hero with a brace, including the opener before half-time.

Colombian defender Jhon Lucumi equalised for Bologna, but Mukau struck again on 66 minutes to secure Lille's third win in five matches.

- PSV comeback -

Celtic and Club Brugge remain on course for the play-offs after drawing 1-1 in Glasgow, Daizen Maeda's superb strike earning the Scottish champions a point after they had fallen behind to a farcical Cameron Carter-Vickers own goal.

The comeback of the night came from PSV Eindhoven, with the Dutch champions recovering from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Goals by Danylo Sikan and Oleksandr Zubkov had the Ukrainians 2-0 ahead at half-time at the Philips Stadion.

However, they had Brazilian full-back Pedro Henrique sent off on 69 minutes and fell apart late on.

Malik Tillman's free-kick was carried over the line by the goalkeeper on 87 minutes and the same player equalised with a superb long-range strike in the 90th minute.

Tillman's fellow American Ricardo Pepi then got the winner in the fifth added minute.

Red Star Belgrade got their first points by coming from behind to hammer Stuttgart 5-1 in Serbia.

Ermedin Demirovic gave the Germans an early lead, but Silas Katompa Mvumpa, on loan from Stuttgart, equalised before goals by Rade Krunic and Mirko Ivanic, and a Nemanja Radonjic brace.

Austrian champions Sturm Graz are also off the mark after beating Girona 1-0 with a Mika Biereth goal.

Real have lost three of their five matches and with six points they are currently 24th, the very last qualifying spot for the knockout phase. Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti had words of comfort for their star French striker, saying: "This is a difficult moment for Mbappe. We will support him and give him love." Inter Milan sit second on 13 points, followed by Barcelona and Dortmund each on 12, with the Germans winning 3-0 against Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia. A great goal by English youngster Jamie Gittens gave Dortmund a first-half lead, before Ramy Bensebaini headed in on 56 minutes and substitute Serhou Guirassy sealed the win late on. Also read: Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario possibly out for months after surgery on broken ankle - Villa, Juventus draw - Aston Villa started with three straight victories in the Champions League but were six matches without a win in all competitions before hosting Juventus. - PSV comeback - Celtic and Club Brugge remain on course for the play-offs after drawing 1-1 in Glasgow, Daizen Maeda's superb strike earning the Scottish champions a point after they had fallen behind to a farcical Cameron Carter-Vickers own goal. Perfect Liverpool on top of Champions League with win over Real Madrid, Dortmund also among winners

Frank Lampard was appointed manager of Championship side Coventry City on Thursday as the former England midfielder aims to rebuild his coaching career.

The 46-year-old has been out of work since an ill-fated second spell in charge of Chelsea as interim boss for the final months of the 2022/23 season.

Coventry sit 17th in the English second tier and controversially sacked Mark Robins, who led them to the FA Cup semi-finals last season, earlier this month.

Lampard has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract and will take charge for the first time at home to Cardiff City on Saturday.

"I am delighted that Frank Lampard has agreed to join our club as head coach," said Coventry owner Doug King.

"Frank cut his teeth in the Championship and knows what is needed in this league to be successful.

"His experiences thereafter at Chelsea and Everton will ensure he brings to our talented squad clear understanding of exactly what is needed to succeed at the very top level that we as a club are striving to reach."

Chelsea's all-time leading goalscorer, Lampard has so far failed to match his glorious playing career since moving into management.

Frank Lampard appointed new Coventry manager as former England midfielder aims to rebuild coaching career

Manchester United suffered a £14 million ($17.6 million) drop in total revenue to £143.1 million, taking a hit from their absence from the lucrative Champions League, first-quarter results showed Tuesday.

But the club announced a net profit of £1.4 million in the period from July to September, compared with a £25.8 million loss during the same period last year, which they attributed to favourable foreign exchange rates.

The Red Devils finished eighth in the Premier League under former manager Erik ten Hag last season -- their lowest-ever placing -- to miss out on Europe's top club competition.

That resulted in a 20.4 per cent drop in broadcasting revenue in the quarter ending September 30 to £31.3 million.

United's FA Cup win last season means they are competing in this season's Europa League instead.

Commercial revenue fell 5.6 per cent to £85.3 million, with matchday revenue decreasing by 3.3 per cent to £26.5 million.

The club recorded "exceptional" costs of £8.6 million. They said the figure "comprises costs incurred in relation to the restructuring of the group's operations, including the redundancy scheme implemented in the first quarter of financial year 2025".

British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS group took over football operations earlier this year after purchasing a minority stake.

They instigated a number of cost-saving measures, including plans to cut about 250 jobs.

United chief executive Omar Berrada said cost and headcount reductions remained "on track", as did work to renovate the club's Carrington training ground.

He confirmed a taskforce weighing up the benefits of redeveloping Old Trafford or building a new stadium on adjacent land was continuing its work.

United ended their financial year in June with net losses of £113.2 million despite earning record revenues -- their fifth straight year of losses.

They are predicting total revenue for 2025 of between £650 million and £670 million.

Ruben Amorim, who replaced the sacked Ten Hag earlier this month, took charge of his first game at Ipswich on Sunday, which ended 1-1.

United are 12th in the Premier League table after a poor start to the season, six points off the top four teams, who qualify for the Champions League.

Manchester United revenue takes a dip amid Champions League absence

Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario faces "months" on the sidelines after breaking his ankle in Saturday's 4-0 win at Manchester City, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou said.

The Italy international needed treatment after a first-half collision with City winger Savinho at the Etihad but was able to finish the game.

The 28-year-old, who had surgery on Monday, has been a virtual ever-present since he signed for Tottenham in 2023 but Postecoglou will now have to turn to veteran back-up Fraser Forster.

"It's not going to be weeks, it'll be months," Postecoglou said on Wednesday, adding he did not want to give a timeline.

"I think once we're past the rehab stage and he starts getting out (onto the training pitch), we'll have a clearer idea."

Postecoglou, speaking on the eve of his team's Europa League clash against Claudio Ranieri's Roma, said the severity of Vicario's injury came as a shock.

"We saw he'd picked up the injury during the game," he said.&nbsp;

"We saw him at half-time, but there was no doubt about him continuing."

"You digest that and then, post-game, he was sore but, you're kind of like, 'He's just played 60 minutes with a sore ankle, but we'll tape it up and go again'."

"Externally people now realise, it's a testament to him as a person. He's as tough as nails and tough as they come."

Postecoglou believes his team is making progress in his second season as in charge -- they are sixth in the Premier League and riding high in the Europa League table.

"I keep saying that we're a better side than we were last year, and we want to keep improving and if we keep improving, the areas where there are gaps, we will slowly overcome," he said.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario possibly out for months after surgery on broken ankle

Inter Miami have appointed former Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano as their new head coach, the Major League Soccer club said on Tuesday.

Mascherano will coach his former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi at the club and replaces Gerardo Martino, who stood down last week due to 'personal reasons'.

The 40-year-old has most recently worked as coach of the Argentine Under-20's and their Olympic team at the Paris Olympics.

He made 203 appearances for Barcelona and as well as playing alongside Messi, he was a team-mate of current Inter Miami players Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez.

In his job with the Argentine FA's youth set-up Mascherano coached Inter Miami's players Tomas Aviles, Facundo Farias and Federico Redondo

"This job requires somebody with the experience to be able to maximise our unique collection of talent - from our global superstars, to our burgeoning homegrown players, to our young international prospects, and everything in between," said Inter Miami managing owner Jorge Mas.

"Javier has amassed unmatched experience in his career, from playing on the world’s biggest stages, to coaching at the youth international level; he has the blend of skills and experience we were looking for.

"We believe Javier is an important addition to our club as we continue on our quest to be among the world’s elite, setting a new standard for football in North America,” added Mas.

This year, Miami dominated the MLS regular season, winning the Supporters' Shield for the team with the best overall record, breaking the points record in the process -- an achievement which led FIFA to hand them a place in next year's Club World Cup.

But Miami lost out to &nbsp;Atlanta, in a best-three opening round to the MLS Cup playoffs in what was a major upset.

Club co-owner David Beckham said he was sure that the new coach had the qualities needed for MLS's most high profile club.

"Javier has always demonstrated what makes him great - relentless determination with the knowledge, instincts and understanding to back it up. We’re very excited to welcome him to lead our team," said Beckham.

In his playing career Mascherano, made his mark with River Plate in his homeland before a season with Corinthians in Brazil. He then played in England for West Ham United and Liverpool before he moved to Barcelona.

At the Camp Nou, the defensive midfielder was part of five Spanish title winning teams and won the Champions League twice with the Catalan club.

"To be able to lead a club like Inter Miami is an honor for me, and a privilege I will strive to make the most of," Mascherano said.

"I was drawn to the organisation’s undeniable ambition, and the infrastructure it has to support it. I’m looking forward to working with the people at Inter Miami to help the club reach new heights, and to give the fans more unforgettable moments," he added.

The Mascherano appointment was the third coaching move in MLS on Tuesday.

New York City FC, who were eliminated from the playoffs after a home defeat to local rivals New York Red Bulls on Saturday announced that coach Nick Cushing was leaving the club, which is owned by Manchester City's City Football Group.

St.Louis City, the second-year club who missed out on the playoffs this season, appointed former Sweden captain and ex-Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg as their new coach.

Javier Mascherano re-unites with Lionel Messi as new coach of Inter Miami

Manchester City's struggles continued as Pep Guardiola's side remarkably blew a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Feyenoord in the Champions League on Tuesday, while Bayern Munich beat Paris Saint-Germain to leave the French club in danger of elimination.

There were also big wins for Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen, while Inter Milan went top of the standings after five games and Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski reached a century of Champions League goals.

However, the biggest drama came at the Etihad Stadium, where City were cruising early in the second half with a three-goal advantage as they sought to end a run of five successive defeats in all competitions.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring from a penalty just before half-time, and Ilkay Gundogan's deflected shot made it 2-0 in the 50th minute.

Haaland struck again to make it 3-0, but Feyenoord's comeback began on 75 minutes when Anis Hadj Moussa took advantage of hapless defending to round goalkeeper Ederson and pull one back.

Substitute Santiago Gimenez bundled in to make it 3-2 on 82 minutes and the equaliser arrived a minute from the end.

Ederson was again caught out with Igor Paixao going around the goalkeeper and crossing for Slovak international David Hancko to head in.

"We concede a lot of goals because we are not stable," complained Guardiola.

"We lost a lot of games lately. We are fragile and of course we need a victory."

It is the first time that a team has gone into the last 20 minutes of a Champions League game trailing by three goals and still avoided defeat, as the point boosts the Dutch side's hopes of progressing.

City are two points outside the top eight places which offer direct qualification for the last 16, while Bayern moved above them by beating PSG 1-0 in Munich.

South Korean defender Kim Min-jae scored the only goal seven minutes before half-time, heading in after goalkeeper Matvei Safonov failed to clear a corner.

PSG had Ousmane Dembele sent off in the second half and the French champions have just four points, and three goals, from five games.

They are a lowly 26th in the 36-team league, a point adrift of the positions which offer a place in the play-off round in February.

"We need to win our last three matches, otherwise we risk being eliminated," admitted PSG coach Luis Enrique.

<h2>Lewandowski century</h2>

Lewandowski notched his 100th goal in the competition with an early penalty in Barcelona's 3-0 home win over French side Brest.

Dani Olmo netted midway through the second half before Lewandowski sealed Barca's win at the death, his 101st goal in the Champions League -- only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have scored more.

Inter lead the standings with 13 points, a point ahead of Barcelona and Liverpool, after a 1-0 win at home to RB Leipzig which means they are also still yet to concede a goal.

Castello Lukeba's own goal made the difference at San Siro, and Leipzig are one of only three teams to have lost five games out of five.

Arsenal romped to a 5-1 victory away to Sporting in Lisbon, as the Portuguese side adapt to life without coach Ruben Amorim, who has departed for Manchester United.

Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Magalhaes all scored in the first half for Arsenal, before Goncalo Inacio pulled one back shortly after the restart.

Bukayo Saka converted a penalty on 65 minutes after Martin Odegaard had been brought down, and Leandro Trossard headed in to seal Arsenal's win late on.

<h2>Atalanta, Atletico hit six</h2>

Atalanta romped to a 6-1 win over rock-bottom Young Boys in Switzerland, with Mateo Retegui and Charles De Ketelaere both scoring braces.

Sead Kolasinac and Lazar Samardzic also netted for the Italians, with Silvere Ganvoula getting the hosts' reply.

Florian Wirtz struck twice, including a penalty, as Leverkusen crushed Red Bull Salzburg 5-0, with Alejandro Grimaldo scoring a superb free-kick and Patrik Schick and Aleix Garcia also netting.

Julian Alvarez and substitute Angel Correa each scored twice and Marcos Llorente and Antoine Griezmann once as Atletico romped to a 6-0 win away to Sparta Prague.

Christian Pulisic, Rafael Leao and Tammy Abraham were the scorers in AC Milan's 3-2 win at Slovan Bratislava, whose goals came from Tigran Barseghyan and Nino Marcelli.

Marko Tolic saw red at the end for Slovan, who are without a point.

We are fragile and of course we need a victory." It is the first time that a team has gone into the last 20 minutes of a Champions League game trailing by three goals and still avoided defeat, as the point boosts the Dutch side's hopes of progressing. Lewandowski century Lewandowski notched his 100th goal in the competition with an early penalty in Barcelona's 3-0 home win over French side Brest. Champions League: Man City blow three-goal lead at home, Bayern beat PSG

West Ham produced a clinical away performance to beat resurgent Newcastle 2-0 on Monday, easing the pressure on beleaguered manager Julen Lopetegui.

Tomas Soucek headed the visitors in front against the run of play at St James' Park and Aaron Wan-Bissaka grabbed a rare goal in the second half to double the Hammers' lead.

Newcastle were unable to capitalise on the chances they created, failing to build on the momentum created by recent wins against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.

The result, only West Ham's second win on the road this season, lifts them to 15 points, just three behind 10th-placed Newcastle, who missed out on the chance to move into the top six.

<h2>Relief for&nbsp;Lopetegui</h2>

It will be a huge relief for Lopetegui, whose future has been a matter of mounting speculation just months after he replaced David Moyes.

"We are happy, above all because we achieved the three points, which is one important thing, but above all because I think that we played well," the Spaniard told Sky Sports.

"We are happy, but tomorrow we are working hard, looking forward to the next challenge (against Arsenal). To think about the long future doesn't help, ever."

The home side made the early running and in-form forward Alexander Isak had the ball in the net in the fifth minute after a delicate dink over Lukasz Fabianski, only for it to be ruled out for offside.

West Ham, expected to face a tough test on Newcastle's home turf, showed little adventure in the opening stages.

But their first real foray up the pitch resulted in a corner and the unmarked Soucek powered home a header from Emerson Palmieri's set-piece in the 10th minute.

Newcastle, on a three-match winning run in all competitions, enjoyed the bulk of the possession as a lively first half unfolded but West Ham were robust in defence and were a constant threat on the counter.

Anthony Gordon had a glorious chance to level after a poor clearance from Jean-Clair Todibo but fired straight at Fabianski.

Minutes later Isak chested down a superb cross from Bruno Guimaraes but steered narrowly wide on the stretch.

Eddie Howe's Newcastle were again on the front foot at the start of the second half but it was West Ham who doubled their lead through Wan-Bissaka.

The former Manchester United man scored his first goal for West Ham and just his third career goal after picking up Jarrod Bowen's pass and firing across goalkeeper Nick Pope and into the net in the 53rd minute.

Howe brought on Jacob Murphy and Callum Wilson in a bid to turn the tide but Newcastle failed to build up a head of steam against their determined opponents, who saw out the game with relative ease.

"The first 60 minutes, albeit we're losing the game 2-0, I think there was a lot of good play from us, we did open them up and had chances to score," said Howe.

"Unfortunately goals will always change the perception of everybody but up until that point I was pretty pleased. The last half an hour I didn't like us at all. I thought we lost our way a little bit, became a bit too desperate to score."

Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has ankle surgery after limping off in Man City win

Six men linked to Juventus and France midfielder Paul Pogba go on trial Tuesday, accused of blackmail, attempted extortion of millions of euros, and holding the player at gunpoint. The case at the Paris criminal court has shocked the French football world—all the more so because the alleged perpetrators include three childhood friends and Pogba's own brother Mathias.

Tuesday's trial comes on top of professional woes for Pogba, whose career has struggled since France's spectacular 2018 World Cup win when he scored against Croatia in the Moscow final. He suffered through repeated injuries that led to his 2022 departure from Manchester United, returning to Juventus, where he remained in and out of treatment.

The Turin club this month cancelled his contract following his suspension until March 2025 for doping. The six defendants in Paris are accused of attempting to squeeze 13 million euros ($13.5 million) out of Pogba.

Mathias was the one to go public in the case, publishing a video on social media in August 2022 promising revelations about his younger brother that were "likely to be explosive".

In a subsequent clip, Mathias accused Paul Pogba of casting an evil spell on his France teammate Kylian Mbappe. Paul Pogba's lawyers and his agent Rafaela Pimenta said in a statement later that the videos "came on top of threats and attempts at extortion". He had already filed criminal complaints in Italy and France in July that year.

<h2>- 'Tricked by childhood friends' -</h2>

Pogba told French investigators he had in March 2022 been "tricked by childhood friends" from the gritty Paris suburb where he and Mathias grew up. He accused them of snatching him before he was held at gunpoint by two hooded men with assault rifles, demanding 13 million euros for "services rendered" and blaming him for not helping them financially.

Pogba said at the time that he had paid them only 100,000 euros. The footballer said he had also been pressured at the France national team's training centre in Clairefontaine, at one of his homes in Manchester, and at Juventus' training ground.

Pogba added that he had also paid a bill of more than 57,000 euros that the same friends had racked up at the Adidas store on Paris' glitzy Champs-Elysees avenue. "It's been really difficult for me off the pitch, what's happened, it's been especially hard mentally," Pogba told broadcaster Al-Jazeera at the end of the last season. "Money changes people, it's the truth, it can destroy a family, start a war".

Paul Pogba's lawyer Pierre-Jean Douvier declined to comment ahead of the case when contacted by AFP. His friends have all denied the allegations. They had "a friendly relationship, with chats, joking around, and alongside that, yes, maybe Paul Pogba gave them a helping hand," said Karim Morand-Lahouazi, a lawyer for one of the accused.

A police overview of the case seen by AFP calls the childhood friends and other acquaintances of Paul Pogba "a criminal team... with the objective of extracting 13 million euros from Paul, who had cut them off financially" early in 2022.

The accused claim they themselves were also victims of the hooded men who held Paul Pogba at gunpoint but who have never been identified. Five of the accused face charges of extortion, kidnapping, and forming a criminal gang.&nbsp;

Mathias Pogba, who was not present the night his brother was snatched, is suspected of "pressuring his brother Paul and his family to ensure the payment of the sum of 13 million euros" and is charged with attempted extortion. Mathias Pogba's lawyer, Mbeko Tabula, said he would not comment until the end of the trial.

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane believes his team needs to win all four of the&nbsp;remaining Champions League games to go through, starting with Paris Saint-Germain at home on Tuesday.

Bayern have lost two of their four matches so far in the new league phase and sit 17th in the standings, with only the top eight qualifying automatically for the last 16.

PSG are languishing outside even the top 24, which secures a place in the play-off round, ahead of the meeting at the Allianz Arena.

"(Bayern) have to win pretty much all our games -- and that's also the case for PSG," Kane told reporters on Monday.

"We're not used to being that far down in the table... With the new format, no one really knows what to expect.

"Tomorrow's a big night."

Kane on Friday scored his seventh hat-trick since arriving at Bayern ahead of last season in a win over Augsburg.

He netted his 50th Bundesliga goal in 43 matches, becoming the fastest to reach a half-century in the division's history, beating Erling Haaland's record by six games.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said it was too early to determine his side's chances in the competition.

"With three wins you qualify and with six wins you're in the top eight," Kompany said, admitting it was "difficult" to look at the table.

"Some teams have had four difficult games and some have had easier ones. Our goal is not the top eight but to be number one."

Kompany said Bayern were wary of their opponents, who they defeated in the 2020 Champions League final, and said PSG were dangerous even without the big names of years past.

"It's a squad with incredible talent. Some of their players will reach the level of those who previously played for PSG.

"We are playing against one of the best teams in Europe. They have a great coach with a lot of speed.&nbsp;

"I don't expect a boring match... Something's got to give."

PSG midfielder Vitinha said his side "couldn't be more motivated" to take on Bayern.&nbsp;

"We know we have to win. It's not decisive because we aren't eliminated if we lose, but at PSG we want to win every game.

"Tomorrow is no different. We're here to win."

Visiting coach Luis Enrique said his side would not adjust their approach despite Bayern's firepower.

"Tomorrow we'll be brave, attack and take risks in defense, as we always do. This is the way.

"I don't know any other way and I'm not interested in any other way. If our opponents are better, we'll applaud them and work to get better."

Like Bayern, Ligue 1 leaders PSG are six points clear and unbeaten in their domestic league.

This season's Champions League final will be played in Munich.

Champions League: Bayern Munich need 'to win pretty much all our games,' says Harry Kane

Mohamed Salah says he is disappointed by Liverpool's failure to offer him a new contract and believes he is "more out than in" as he nears the end of his existing deal. The 32-year-old, who has scored 12 goals in all competitions this season, is out of contract at the end of the 2024/25 campaign. The Egypt international showed his enduring value on Sunday, scoring twice in Liverpool's 3-2 victory at Southampton, which took them eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

But his comments after the match suggest Salah, who arrived at Anfield in 2017 and has won the Champions League and Premier League with the club, could leave for free. "We are almost in December, and I haven't received any offers yet to stay in the club," he said. "I'm probably more out than in. You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands."

All three will be free to speak to overseas clubs in January if they do not sign an extension before then. Asked if he was disappointed not to have received an offer from Liverpool, Salah added: "Of course, yeah. I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end, it is not in my hands or the fans' hands. Let's wait and see.

"I'm not going to retire soon, so I'm just playing, focusing on the season, and I'm trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. I'm disappointed, but we will see."

Let's wait and see. "I'm not going to retire soon, so I'm just playing, focusing on the season, and I'm trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. Mohamed Salah disappointed with no new Liverpool deal on table

Mohamed Salah urged Liverpool to deliver a hammer blow to Manchester City's fading title hopes after inspiring the Premier League leaders' dramatic 3-2 win against Southampton on Sunday.

Arne Slot's side moved eight points clear of second-placed City thanks to Salah's second half double at St Mary's.

After taking the lead through Dominik Szoboszlai's early strike, Liverpool were rocked by Adam Armstrong's equaliser before Mateus Fernandes put bottom-of-the table Southampton ahead in the second half.

As he has so often done before, Salah came to Liverpool's rescue with a typically predatory equaliser and a coolly converted penalty in the closing stages.

Liverpool's 10th win in 12 league games ensured they capitalised on City's dismal 4-0 defeat against Tottenham 24 hours earlier.

Chasing their first Premier League crown since 2020, the Reds have a golden opportunity to throttle City's hopes of a fifth successive title when Pep Guardiola's team visits Anfield on December 1.

City have lost five in a row in all competitions and Salah said: "Hopefully, we keep going in that direction. We have a game against them so hopefully, we win it and go 11 points clear."

"Man City is Man City. They have a bad time now but they have great players."

Salah now has 12 goals in all competitions this term, including six in his last five league games.

"They were very important, especially after being down 2-1. It's the most important thing to have won the game," he said.

"Each game is different. They had a game plan and played very well. We managed to come back and win the game."

<h2>Urgency and intensity</h2>

Having Salah in form has been crucial to Slot's dream beginning to life at Anfield.

Slot has made a remarkable start, winning 16 of his first 18 games in all competitions.

The former Feyenoord manager's deft touch has established Liverpool as title favourites in his maiden season at Anfield after replacing Jurgen Klopp.

Slot conceded Liverpool lacked intensity in the first hour at St Mary's, but he was pleased with the way his players responded to falling behind.

"In the second half I saw the intensity I was looking for in the first half. Southampton make it really difficult for many teams, including top clubs, and they made it difficult today, though we dominated the game completely in my opinion," Slot said.

"There was not enough urgency to arrive in the box in the first half, we just kept the ball instead of attacking the box."&nbsp;

"Although we fell behind in the second half we showed more urgency and intensity. That led to numerous chances and eventually two goals."

With Salah's contract due to expire at the end of this season and the forward yet to sign a new deal, Slot was quick to praise the contribution of his talisman.

"If you want to win you need to score goals and we know Mo can score," he said.&nbsp;

"For me his first goal is the most important as we scored out of nowhere, then after that it was just waiting for us to score another."

Before City's crucial trip to Anfield next weekend, Liverpool host Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday and Slot is relishing the blockbuster clashes.

"They are two teams who have dominated football the last few years. So two big games and that's why we needed to win today and that is what I am happy about," he said.
