Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar lauded Team India after they beat defending champions England by 68 runs in the T20 World Cup semifinal, in Guyana, and booked a spot in the final (where they will meet South Africa on June 29 in Barbados). After Rohit Sharma-led India thrashed Jos Buttler-led England, Akhtar lauded Team India and revealed that he was 'hurt' when they lost the ODI World Cup 2023 final last year, to Australia. Further, he has backed them to win this time around for 'selfless' captain Rohit Sharma.

“I was always in favour of India winning the tournament. I was hurt last year when India could not win the World Cup as they should not have lost it because they deserved to win,” Akhtar said on his official YouTube channel.

“Rohit Sharma has repeatedly said he wants to make an impact and win the trophy and so, deserves to win the cup. He is a big player, and it should end on a big note. He is a selfless captain, plays for the team and is a complete batter,” Akhtar added.

Speaking about Rohit, the Indian captain has walked the talk in terms of leading from the front with an aggressive approach (putting the interest of the team without caring for personal milestones). Just like he gave India thundering starts in the ODI WC, Hitman has been doing the same in the ongoing T20 WC in the West Indies and the USA. In the semifinal, he smashed an impressive 39-ball 57 to take India to 171-7. In reply, England folded for 103 in 16.4 overs courtesy of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav sharing three wickets each.

Even in the Super 8 clash versus Australia, Rohit led the charge with an attacking 41-ball 92, laced with 8 sixes. Thus, he is India's highest run-getter in the 20-nation mega event, third overall, with 248 runs in eight games at an average of 41.33 and a strike rate of 155.97. Hence, his selfless and fearless approach has set the tone for India in every game. While fielding, he has marshalled the troops with aplomb and made wise moves at regular intervals.

India skipper Rohit Sharma has lashed out at former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq for his claims of ball-tempering by Indian bowlers. Rohit replied to the comments on the eve of India's semi-final against England in T20 World Cup on June 27.

"What answer will I give? If you are playing under the sun and the wickets are this dry, the ball will reverse on its own. The ball is reversing for all teams. Not just for us. Sometimes, it's important to open your mind. You have to understand where we are playing. We are not playing in England or Australia," skipper Rohit said.

After India's win against Australia in Super 8 clash, Inzamam had said that reverse swing by Arshdeep Singh during match vs Australia was unusual.

"Arshdeep Singh, when he was bowling the 15th over, the ball was reversing. is it too early (for reverse swing) with the new ball? This means the ball was ready for reverse swing by the 12th or the 13th over. Umpires should keep their eyes open (to spot) these things...If it was Pakistani bowlers (reverse swinging the ball) this would have been a big issue. We know reverse swing very well and if Arshdeep can come in the 15th over and start reversing the ball, it means some serious work had been done before," the former Pak skipper had said on a TV channel debate.

This is not the first time former Pakistan cricketers have made such bizarre claims against India.

In the 2023 ODI World Cup, Hasan Raza had said that India have planted chips inside the balls and hence their pacers were more successful than other teams.

Nonetheless, India are all set to face England in the rematch of 2022 T20 World Cup semis. It is to be noted that India had lost that match by 10 wickets while England went to become the champions.

South Africa moved past their poor record in ICC knockouts to thrash Afghanistan by 9 wickets in the first T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal and enter their maiden final. On Wednesday (June 26, local time), in Trinidad, Aiden Markram-led Proteas rode on bowling heroics from Player-of-the-Match Marco Jansen (3 for 16) and spinner Tabraiz Shamsi (3 for 6) to dismiss the Rashid Khan-led Afghans, playing their maiden World Cup semifinal, for 56 (lowest-ever score in T20 WC semis) and chased it with 67 balls to spare.

Opting to bat first at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad, Rashid & Co. had nothing going for themselves from the word go. Their in-form openers Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmatullah Gurbaz went back in a flash and they were soon reduced to 23 for 5 with pacers Jansen, Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada chipping in with regular breakthroughs.

Jansen bowled in the right areas, and kept it on the stumps, to reap rewards whereas Shamsi removed the tail soon as the Afghans got bundled out for a mere 56 in 11.5 overs. Only Azmatullah Omarzai touched double digits with his 10 being the highest-score. Thus, Afghanistan attained some unwanted feats:

Talking about the run-chase, Afghanistan removed opener Quinton De Kock for 5 with pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi striking early (who also signed off with most wickets in a single edition -- 17 scalps). However, there was nothing more to celebrate for the Afghans as Markram (23 not out) and opener Reeza Hendricks (29 not out) stitched an unbeaten 55-run second-wicket stand to take their side to a maiden T20 WC final.

For Afghanistan, they can hold their heads high as an inspiring campaign came to an end, where they beat New Zealand and Australia. They probably ran out of steam, after also not getting much breathing space between their last Super 8 game and the first semifinal. Proteas, who also had a delayed flight en route to the semifinals, were clinical as ever with their bowlers dominating the show.

Thus, Afghanistan attained some unwanted feats: Lowest totals by full-member teams in T20 WC history 55 - England vs West Indies, Dubai, 2021 56 - Afghanistan vs South Africa, Tarouba, 2024* 60 - New Zealand vs Sri Lanka, Chattogram, 2014 70 - Bangladesh vs New Zealand, Kolkata, 2016 Lowest total for Afghanistan in T20Is 56 vs South Africa, Tarouba, 2024* 72 vs Bangladesh, Mirpur, 2014 80 vs South Africa, Bridgetown, 2010 80 vs England, Colombo, 2012 - above four coming in a WC match. Lowest totals vs South Africa in T20Is 56 - Afghanistan, Tarouba, 2024* 77 - Sri Lanka, New York, 2024 80 - Afghanistan, Bridgetown, 2010 81 - Scotland, The Oval, 2009 Also read: T20 WC 2024: EXPLAINED! What if both semifinals wash out? Who wins in case final is also called off? Most consecutive wins in T20 WCs 8* - SA (2024) 8 - AUS (2022-2024) 7 - ENG (2010-2012) 7 - IND (2012-2014) Markram-led SA, who won several close games in this year's competition, have, thus, stormed into their maiden T20 WC final. They will now lock horns with the winner of the second semifinal between defending champions England and India (on June 27, in Guyana). The final will be held at the Kensington Oval, Barbados on Saturday (June 29).

IND vs ENG Weather Report: Why rain could affect England's chances of title defence | T20 World Cup 2024

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has not liked the use of a new pitch for the T20 World Cup semi-final match between Afghanistan and South Africa. The pitch at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad played excessively in favour of the pace bowlers, allowing South Africa to bundle Afghanistan on a paltry total of 56 - the lowest score in a T20 WC semi-final.

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan won the toss and opted to bat first, as is the trend often in big knockout matches. However, the decision proved awful in hindsight as the seaming conditions and the unpredictable nature of the pitch startled the Afghan batters.

“It seems strange to me that you’ll use a brand new wicket for a semifinal one that you’ve actually got no idea about how it’s going to play. We heard the preparation for this wicket started about a week and a half,” Ponting told the host broadcaster.

The legendary Australian player highlighted that seam and swing still would have been fine but the inconsistent bounce is what turned the semi-final into a drab affair.

“There was a game early in the tournament – West Indies and New Zealand – which was a 150 plays 140 type game. And at least they had some sort of idea of how that wicket was going play," said Ponting.

"I know the ball swung that night. That’s okay. You can deal with that. But the variation in bounce and seam that we’ve seen here, I’m not sure if I’m the groundsman, I’ll be experimenting with something like that in such a big moment."

Trott slams the pitch

Ponting was not the only ex-player to share his displeasure over the quality of the pitch. Former England batter and current Afghanistan coach, Jonathan Trott, slammed the authorities for offering such a pitch in the semi-final.

"I don't want to get myself into trouble. But I also don't want to sound a bit like 'sour grapes' but that's not the pitch that you want to have a semi-final of a World Cup on. Plain and simple," said Trott after the match.

Afghanistan had come into the semifinal on the back of a heroic win against the Bangla Tigers. Not many would have predicted the Afghan side to reach the semifinals but the team, led by Rashid Khan showed exemplary courage and doggedness to beat the odds. If the pitch was sporting, Afghanistan could have pushed South Africa to the edge as well.

T20 World Cup: 'It seems strange' - Ricky Ponting on pitch used in Afghanistan vs South Africa semi-final

India and England are set to lock horns in the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2024 edition on Thursday (June 27) at the Province Stadium in Guyana. Both sides will aim to go past each other and face South Africa in the final, on Saturday (June 29) in Barbados, who thrashed Afghanistan in the first semifinal. Rohit Sharma-led India are unbeaten so far in the 20-nation mega event, in West Indies and the USA, and have a stern task ahead to go past the defending champions England, who eliminated them in the last edition.

What happened when India and England locked horns last in the T20 WC?

During the 2022 T20 WC, in Australia, India and England met each other in the second semifinal (much like in the current scenario). The two heavyweights met in the picturesque Adelaide Oval, Adelaide where Jos Buttler & Co. gave India a proper thrashing.

England opted to bowl first after getting it right during the coin toss. Rohit-led India had a slow start, losing opener KL Rahul soon. While Rohit struggled, getting out for a 28-ball 27, Virat Kohli's 40-ball 50 and Hardik Pandya's 33-ball 63 propelled India to 168 for 6 in 20 overs. Adil Rashid's 4-0-20-1 and Chris Jordan's 3 for 43 dented India's progress as the Men in Blue settled for a moderate total.

'Don't want to get into trouble but...': Coach Trott slams Trinidad pitch after Afghanistan's T20 WC exit

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are at the fag ends of their glorious international careers. Both have been the stalwarts of Indian cricket and remain the fulcrum of the national side across formats. Ahead of India's T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal versus defending champions England, on Thursday (June 27) in Guyana, former Indian captain Kapil Dev opened up on Rohit and Kohli and pointed out the cheese and chalk nature of the superstar duo.

Rohit and Kohli have a plethora of runs for India in all forms of the game. There is a lot of difference between the two; in terms of playing style and physical appearance. While Kohli relies on fitness and speed, Rohit's lazy elegance and calm approach bodes well for the team. Kapil, in a recent event, decoded the differences between the two, saying 'Rohit doesn't jump around like Kohli and knows his limitations'.

'If Kohli can lift 150-250 kg dumbbells, doesn't mean Rohit should do the same'

In an ABP News show, the 1983 World Cup-winning captain said, "If Virat Kohli can lift 150 kg and 250kg dumbbells, that doesn't mean Rohit should do the same. 'If Kohli can lift 150-250 kg dumbbells, doesn't mean Rohit should do the same' In an ABP News show, the 1983 World Cup-winning captain said, "If Virat Kohli can lift 150 kg and 250kg dumbbells, that doesn't mean Rohit should do the same. It seems like Rohit knows his game very well. He plays within himself. He is not like Virat Kohli and doesn't jump around. Rohit is aware of his limitations and there is no one better than him in that respect, not even Virat."
South Africa thrashed Afghanistan in the first T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal on Wednesday (June 26, local time) in Trinidad to book a spot in the tournament final. The Aiden Markram-led Proteas continued their unbeaten run in the 20-nation event, being held in West Indies and the USA, to reach their maiden T20 WC final on the back of spirited performances from Player-of-the-Match Marco Jansen (3 for 16) and Tabraiz Shamsi (3 for 6) to dismiss the Afghans for 56, lowest T20 WC semifinal score, before they chased down the total in 8.5 overs with 9 wickets in hand.

Jansen and Kagiso Rabada's early strikes dented Rashid Khan-led Afghanistan from the word go before Anrich Nortje and Shamsi joined in. After being all-out for a paltry 56 in 11.5 overs, Afghans managed to remove Quinton De Kock early in SA's run-chase but skipper Markram (unbeaten 23) and opener Reeza Hendricks (29 not out) stitched an unbroken 55-run second-wicket stand to take their side home.

T20 WC: NUMBERS GAME - SA achieve HISTORIC feats with semifinal win, Afghanistan attain unwanted records

Afghanistan beat Bangladesh by 8 runs in the last Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup to qualify for the semifinals. Needing a win to progress ahead, the Afghans put on a show and edged past the Bangla Tigers at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent on Monday (June 24, local time) to eliminate Australia from the semifinal race. Australia were dependent on Bangladesh's win, after losing to India by 24 runs, to enter the last four, however, Rashid Khan & Co.'s brilliant display led to their ouster.

Talking about the Afghanistan-Bangladesh clash, the former opted to bat first and rode on opener Rahmatullah Gurbaz's 43 to post a paltry 115/5. In reply, the Bangla Tigers' run-chase was disrupted by constant rain breaks as the target was revised to 114 in 19 overs.

Eventually, Rashid and Naveen-ul-Haq's four wickets apiece dismantled Bangladesh for 105 in 17.5 overs. After Naveen claimed the last wicket, trapping Mustafizur Rahman lbw in the penultimate over, the Afghan players broke into celebrations as they created history by reaching their maiden semifinals.

WATCH: Afghanistan burst into celebrations after entering T20 WC semifinals with win over Bangladesh

Afghanistan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib has reacted for the first time after he feigned a hamstring injury during the Super 8 match against Bangladesh on Monday (Jun 24) to help his team qualify for the semifinals.

With rain teeming down at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown when Bangladesh were chasing the 116-run target, Naib faked the injury to ensure Afghanistan remained in front in the Duckworth-Lewis Stern (DLS) calculations.

After Gulbadin's antics, Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin took to X (formerly Twitter) and reacted to the incident by hilariously calling for a 'red card' for the Afghan pacer. A red card is often dished out in football when a player engages in a simulation and is ordered by the referee to walk out of the pitch.

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has thrown his weight behind India to win the ongoing T20 World Cup. Akhtar believes that the trophy, which is currently with England, should stay in the sub-continent.

"Well done India, this is your World Cup now. You should win this and the World Cup should stay in the subcontinent. You should have won the previous too and this too. You deserve it one hundred percent. My support is with you. Rohit's intent is good and his conscience is clear. He deserves to lift the trophy," Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.

Akhtar also spoke about India's loss to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final which proved as a catalyst in India beating Australia in the Super 8 clash.

"What a comprehensive win for India. They had been going through depression after they lost a World Cup that they should have won. They had lost to Australia in the final and that depression turned into obsession. They wanted to hit back at Australia," Akhtar added.

T20 World Cup 2024: Former Pak pacer Shoaib Akhtar backs India to win the tournament. Here's Why

England county Leicestershire batter Louis Kimber entered the record books on Wednesday (June 26) with the fastest double hundred in England's first-class history and second fastest of all time.

Kimber reached the double hundred off just 100 balls on day 4 of the Division 1 match against Sussex. Kimber's effort is second only to Afghanistan batter Shafiqullah Shinwari's 89-ball effort during the Afghan first-class match between Kabul and Boost region in 2017/18.

Also Watch: England pacer Ollie Robinson gives away 43 runs in an over during county cricket

Kimber eventually got out after scoring 243 runs off 127 balls. He also hit 21 sixes in his innings - the most for a batter in an innings in the English county history. Kimber went past England skipper Ben Stokes' record of 17 sixes in 2022 for Durham vs Worcestershire.

During the match, Kimber also hit England pacer Ollie Robinson for 43 runs in an over - another record in first-class cricket.

Robinson bowled nine deliveries in the over which included three no-balls. He was hit for five sixes and three fours to go with a single by Kimber.

The over started with Kimber hitting the first ball of Robinson's over for a six. The next ball was a no-ball by Robinson which also was dispatched for a six. The next three deliveries went for 4,6,4 before Robinson bowled another no-ball which again went for a six.

The fifth legal ball of the over went for a four before another no-ball by Robinson which once again went for a six. The last ball of the over got Kimber only a single.

The batter who was batting at 72 off 56 balls before Robinson's over, ended up scoring his century and was at 109 off 65 balls by the time Robinson got over from the nightmare. These are the most runs given by a bowler in England's county cricket.

Leicestershire, however, failed to chase the 464-run target, albeit by just 18 runs.

Yuvraj played under Warner's captaincy at SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) from 2016 to 2017. The duo lifted the IPL trophy in 2016 after beating Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final.

As opponents, both squared off against each other numerous times but remained on cordial terms off the field.

After Australia's exit from the tournament, tributes poured in from all around the cricketing world for Warner. Legendary Australian captain, Ricky Ponting was one of the first ones to congratulate Warner on his career, adding that the country was yet to find an impact player like him.

"(I) put my arm around him. I said, 'just take a moment tonight to sit back by yourself and reflect on what's been an unbelievable career across all three formats for Australia'" said Ponting.

"We know he retired in the summer from test cricket, but you'll struggle to find a guy that's had as big an impact on all three forms in Australian cricket than David Warner has," he added.

Also read | 'You'll struggle...,' Ex-Australia skipper Ricky Ponting after David Warner's international career ends

Warner's wife, Candice Warner also posted a beautiful message saying it was a privilege to see him play up close. She also presented a fact-sheet about what her husband had achieved on the cricketing pitch.

"Congratulations @davidwarner31 on one of the best international cricket careers we have ever seen for our country. To have had a front-row seat has been a privilege. We will miss seeing you play for Australia but we are so excited to have you home more. Love you." Candice wrote on Instagram.

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh penned a heartfelt note for David Warner as the Australian batter brought curtains on his 15-year-long international career. Yuvraj took to his social media handles to share the poignant note and pay tribute to what was a glittering career, filled with individual and team accolades for the Australian. Warner played his last match in Australian colours against India in the Super 8 stage at the ongoing T20 World Cup in the USA and Caribbean. He had already said goodbye to the Test and ODI format after playing the series against Pakistan, earlier this year. “No one likes a quiet goodbye, but that’s the game of life mate. Well done on an incredible career @davidwarner31!" Yuvraj wrote “From smashing boundaries on the park to nailing Bollywood moves and dialogues, you’ve done it all in true #Warner style. A feared batsman, a lively teammate and a true entertainer on and off the field," he added, sharing pictures of the duo when they shared the field. "It was a pleasure sharing the dressing room with you buddy. Go well #legend and enjoy your well-deserved time off with the lovely family." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Yuvraj Singh (@yuvisofficial) × Yuvraj played under Warner's captaincy at SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) from 2016 to 2017. Also read | 'You'll struggle...,' Ex-Australia skipper Ricky Ponting after David Warner's international career ends Warner's wife, Candice Warner also posted a beautiful message saying it was a privilege to see him play up close.
After 52 gruelling encounters in the 2024 T20 World Cup, being held in West Indies and the USA, the stage is set for the semifinals. India, defending champions England, Afghanistan and South Africa are in the last four. While South Africa and Afghanistan will lock horns in the first semifinal in Trinidad on Wednesday (June 26, local time), India and England will meet in the second semifinal on Thursday (June 27) in Guyana. The cricket fans are eagerly waiting for the two semis with one eye on the weather.

What happens if the two semis are affected by rain?

It is to be noted that there is a reserve day for the first semifinal, between the Afghans and unbeaten Aiden Markram-led South Africa. However, the second semifinal between India and England doesn't have a reserve day. However, four extra hours will be added, if need be, to determine a result. In case both the semifinals are entirely washed out, India and South Africa -- the two unbeaten teams in the ongoing 20-nation tournament -- will meet in the final for topping their respective groups in the Super 8s. Markram-led Proteas topped Group 2, comprising co-hosts West Indies, England and USA, whereas Rohit Sharma & Co. topped Group 1, which also included Australia, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

It is to be noted that the weather forecast for the India-England semifinal is not encouraging. There is high possibility of thundershowers during the high-voltage clash, having no reserve day.

T20 WC 2024: EXPLAINED! What if both semifinals wash out? Who wins in case final is also called off?

India, defending champions England, Afghanistan and South Africa have made it to the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals. Ahead of the semifinals, here is revealing the two teams who will enter the final if both the knockout games are washed out

South Africa head coach Rob Walter says this Proteas team is different from the past which failed to win the close games. The comments came a day before South Africa's semi-final against Afghanistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

South Africa have had a tendency to losing games under pressure and have never won an ICC title.

"The near misses in the past, they belong to the people who missed them," Walter said at the pre-match press conference.

"To be honest, this team is a different team. We own whatever is ours to own. And so, our nearest reflection point is this tournament where we've managed to get over the line. So that's what we think about," he added.

The SA coach, however, agreed there'll be anxiety mixed with excitement given the occasion.

"There'll be a mixture of emotions which is with anxiety but excitement and I think anyone in any sport, if they get to this phase of a competition, feels that. And so really, it's just acknowledging that and accepting it and then just understanding what you'll do with that. We still want to play our best cricket in the key moments of the game tomorrow," said Walter.

Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott, however, believes that the pressure is on Proteas and not them.

"This is uncharted territory for us. We're just going to go out there and give it our all. There's no preconceived ideas on it all, or history of failure or success in semi-finals in past years. For us it's a new challenge, and I think that makes us dangerous in the semi-finals as a side with nothing to lose and obviously a lot of pressure on the opposition," said the Afghan coach.

T20 World Cup 2024: SA coach Rob Walter says 'near misses of past' don't belong to this team

Former England cricketer David Lloyd slammed the International Cricket Council (ICC) for purposely fixing India versus Pakistan fixtures in ICC events. During the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 edition, being held in West Indies and the USA, India and their arch-rivals were placed in Group A and locked horns in New York on June 9, where Rohit Sharma & Co. won by 6 runs. Lloyd expressed his displeasure with the ICC fixing games, which as per him is just 'trying to manipulate' the audience. Further, Lloyd also lashed out at the governing body for keeping different rules for both the T20 WC semifinals and asked why India do not have a single day-night encounter in the 20-nation showpiece tournament.

During a chat on TalkSPORT, Lloyd -- who represented England in 9 Tests and 8 ODIs -- was asked if the ICC should prevent formatting its major tournaments in a way that India and Pakistan are bound to face-off at least once – basically by putting them in the same group.

'You're just trying to manipulate. It's just wrong'

In this regard, Lloyd (fondly known as 'Bumble'), said, "We talk long and hard about fixing in cricket. That's fixed. It's just fixed for a major event. I think the romance of anything like this if they do get drawn together – not that they are – but if they do, there is a romance to it. There's something for spectators to look forward to. So if it happens, then it becomes an event. The game itself is an event. You can't fix it. And that's only part of what we fix. We fix loads to stuff. In this particular World Cup, you're just trying to manipulate. It's just wrong."

Further, Lloyd also pointed out the different rules for both the T20 WC semifinals. Notably, the Afghanistan versus South Africa semifinal, on Wednesday in Trinidad (June 26, local time), has a reserve day in place. However, the same isn't the case for the second semifinal, featuring India and England, on Thursday (June 27) in Guyana. In case of rain delay, it has four hours of extra time without any overs lost.

In addition, India have not played a single day-night game in the tournament, solely to suit the Indian audiences back home. Thus, Lloyd termed all this 'unfair'.

The Englishman stated, "It just isn't fair (to other teams). You can go round and round and talk about forever. We're just manipulating the tournament for the benefit of a few. If you look at the TV audience in India, they would watch anything there and anytime. It is a religion. It is the be all and end all. They would watch it and so it must of such commercial value, that overrides the competition itself."

Lloyd added, "And don't tell me the ICC devises it. Who does it? Whoever it is, this operating group must be told that whilst you're doing it, this must happen, that must happen and that it's a bit unfair to the teams. Come up with the best World Cup you can, you can put together for the supporter."

Former England cricketer SLAMS ICC for FIXING India vs Pakistan matches in mega events

Australia men's T20 team captain Mitchell Marsh has reacted to Afghanistan all-rounder, Gulbadin Naib, feigning injury during the match against Bangladesh. Australia needed Bangladesh to defeat Afghanistan to qualify for the semifinals of the marquee tournament but the team led by Rashid Khan managed to outclass the Bangl Tigers.

The defeat meant that Australia had to return home having lost two matches in the Super 8 stage.

“I was almost in tears laughing and at the end of the day it had no bearing on the game,” Marsh was quoted as saying by cricket.com.

“So we can laugh about it now – but gee, it was funny. It was outstanding (from Gulbadin Naib)," he added.

Prior to Marsh, leg-spinner Adam Zampa had posted an Instagram story, calling Naib's hamstring injury as 'rainstring'.

Also read | T20 WC: `It`s not...` - Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan on Gulbadin Naib`s cramps during Bangladesh tie

What did Naib do?

The incident transpired in the 12th over of the match after Afghanistan head coach, Jonathan Trott, standing on the sidelines, instructed the team to slow down the play.

At the time, Bangladesh were two runs behind the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) score - meaning Afghanistan would have won the match if no play was possible from thereon.

"Well, I think he had some cramp. I don't know what happened to him. I don't know what's going on, on social media. But, that doesn't matter. It's just an on-field injury. We didn't lose any overs, rain came, and we just went off (the field)," said Rashid.

"It's not something that made any massive difference in the game. We came back on to the field in 5 minutes, and there was no massive difference. For me, it was just an injury and needed some time," he added.

With rain teeming down, Naib, standing at first slip, went down, clutching his hamstring, stopping the match in the process. As the rain's intensity increased, the players were taken off the pitch before returning to complete the match. T20 World Cup: 'I was almost...' - Australia captain Mitchell Marsh reacts to Gulbadin Naib's fake injury

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq made heads turn with a bizarre claim about India pacers, pointing fingers at Arshdeep Singh, for consistently tampering with the ball during the ongoing T20 World Cup, in West Indies and the USA. Inzamam opined that Indian bowlers have been altering their match balls to aid reverse swing. Indian pacers Arshdeep, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya have been among the wickets for Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue, being key contributors in India's unbeaten run so far in the 20-nation mega event.

Arshdeep is India's highest wicket-taker (15 scalps), second-overall, whereas Bumrah has 11 wickets to his name (eighth-overall). Even all-rounder Hardik has claimed 8 wickets in six outings. Seeing Bumrah-led Indian pacers' stupendous run, Inzamam made a bizarre claim during a recent chat show.

Inzamam, along with another former Pakistan skipper, Saleem Malik, drew reference to Arshdeep's reverse swinging deliveries on a live show for a Pakistan news channel during Rohit-led India's Super 8 clash versus Australia on June 24 in St. Lucia.

Both the former Pakistani cricketers opined that the 14th or 15th over of a game is too soon for a pacer to get reverse swing. Arshdeep got a hint of reverse swing during the 16th over of Australia's unsuccessful 206-run chase (where they only managed 181-8 and lost by 24 runs after Rohit's strokefilled 41-ball 92).

Thus, Inzamam said, "Arshdeep Singh, when he was bowling the 15th over, the ball was reversing. is it too early (for reverse swing) with the new ball? This means the ball was ready for reverse swing by the 12th or the 13th over. Umpires should keep their eyes open (to spot) these things...If it was Pakistani bowlers (reverse swinging the ball) this would have been a big issue. We know reverse swing very well and if Arshdeep can come in the 15th over and start reversing the ball, it means some serious work had been done before."
