West Indies legend Brian Lara has termed James Anderson as 'the greatest fast bowler to have played the game' ahead of the iconic pacer's farewell Test, i.e. the England-West Indies first Test at Lord's starting on July 10. Anderson announced his Test retirement early this year. He will mentor the English bowlers after his retirement. Lara reckoned that Anderson, who has 700 Test scalps in 187 matches at an average of 26.52, has served England well and can depart on a high.

Talking on Sky Sports, Lara lauded Anderson and said, "He's the greatest fast bowler that ever played the game. I mean, it's just his numbers are incredible. And he's served England well. I know for a fact that, you know, he didn't have that in mind. But I think he's accepted it quite well. And if that's the choice of, you know, the captain or the coach or the selectors (who mentioned to the pacer that they are now looking at the future), then so be it. He's had a tremendous career. I don't think that he's going to feel slighted by it at all. He's just a tremendous performer. And what can I say? The best in the world."

The West Indian added, "I'm not sure there's much English cricketers don't leave a legacy like he has. I mean, this is a man who has the most Test wickets as a fast bowler and, um, played for, I don't know, you tell me, 22, 23 for his country. Yeah. Fast bowling. You don't see that much. I think Courtney Walsh might be, might come close in terms of, uh, how many years you've played but his legacy is going to be tremendous and i think. For an English cricketer, I think he has the respect of the rest of the world. You speak to anyone that have played with or against him around the world, they will tell you how good he is."

Anderson started his career in 2002 and soon became a regular in the longest format. While he also has 287 wickets in white-ball formats, the veteran made a huge mark in Tests by becoming the first pacer with 700, or more, wickets. The upcoming England-West Indies first Test will be his last-ever appearance in the format and the 41-year-old will hope to leave on a high.

Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed revealed that he wasn't dropped for the T20 World Cup Super 8 clash versus India for missing the team bus. Bangladesh locked horns with India in a must-win game, at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua, on June 22 and in-form pacer Taskin wasn't named in the playing XI. This raised eyebrows as he had accounted for seven wickets, from five games, till then in the mega event, held in the West Indies and the USA. Later, it was reported that he missed the team bus and, hence, wasn't named in the XI. Now, Taskin has revealed the real reason for missing the all-important game in the just-concluded marquee tournament, eventually won by India.

Taskin admitted that he did miss the bus, however, arrived at the ground before the toss. In addition, he mentioned that he was anyway not going to play as he didn’t fit in the Najmul Shanto-led team combination. The Bangla Tigers replaced him with wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali.

Taskin told Dhaka-based newspaper Ajker Patrika, "I was a little late, but I reached at the ground before the toss. I arrived at the ground around 30-40 minutes before the toss. I missed the team bus. The bus left the hotel at 8.35am. I left for the ground at 8.43am. I almost reached the ground with the bus. It is not as if they didn't pick me because I arrived late. I wasn't going to play anyway."

Dropping Taskin led to Bangladesh team management's widespread criticism. They lost the India clash by 50 runs and moved closer to elimination even before their last game in the Super 8s, where they faced Afghanistan. Taskin returned for the Afghanistan face-off and ended the tournament with eight scalps, however, Bangladesh lost that game too (earlier also losing to Australia in the Super 8s) and bowed out of the 20-nation event.

All-rounder Shakib Al-Hasan also opened up on Taskin missing the India game. He was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo, "West Indies is a difficult place for transport. He arrived 5-10 minutes before the toss, so naturally it was difficult for the team management to select him. It was also a difficult situation for the player. Taskin apologised to the team, and everyone took it very normally. It was an unintentional mistake. It ended there."

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah opened up on prospects of Hardik Pandya succeeding Rohit Sharma as India's T20I captain after the just-concluded 2024 T20 World Cup. After India beat South Africa by 7 runs in the T20 WC final, in Barbados on Saturday (June 29), to lift the coveted title for the second time, captain Rohit announced his T20I retirement. Thus, speculations are rife that Hardik will replace Rohit as the next Indian captain given he was leading in the shortest format when Hitman was away (from the 2022 T20 WC semifinal till end of 2023).

Shah said as quoted by Hindustan Times, "Captaincy will be decided by the selectors, and we will announce it after discussing with them. You asked about Hardik, there were lot of questions over his form but we and selectors showed faith in him and he proved himself."

In a video shared by the BCCI on social media platforms, Dravid said, “I am really short of words but all I want to say is thank you everyone for making me a part of what is an incredible memory. I think all you will remember these moments. We always say it's not about the runs, it's not about the wickets, you'll never remember your career. But you will remember is moments like these. I cannot be more prouder of you guys. To come back the way you did, the way you fought. The way we worked as a team. The resilience."

Dravid, known as The Wall added, "There have been a few disappointments over the years where we have come close but we have not been able to cross the line. But what this bunch of boys has done, everyone in the support staff has done. The whole country is proud of each and every one of you for what you have achieved. There are so many sacrifices each of you have made. To see your families here today and so many of your families back home, think of all the sacrifices every one of them has made since the time you were kids. For you to be here in the dressing room today, your parents, wives, children, brothers, your coaches. So many people have made so many sacrifices for you to enjoy this memory, this moment."

This means Samson, Dube and Jaiswal are unlikely to be available for selection for Saturday’s opening T20I in Harare.

According to the latest reports, the trio will only return to India on Wednesday evening along with the rest of the squad through a charter flight. It is anticipated that all the players will participate in a road show and will have a dinner with the Prime Minister on Wednesday or Thursday evening.
Rohit Sharma-led India won the 2024 T20 World Cup, beating South Africa by 7 runs in the final at the Kensington Oval, Barbados on June 29. After the epic win in the finale, courtesy of Virat Kohli's 76 and useful knocks from Axar Patel and Shivam Dube, followed by bowling heroics from Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, Indian captain Rohit was seen having a 'bite' of the Barbados pitch. The video of Rohit's unusual act went viral and left many bewildered. Now, the Indian opener has reacted to the whole incident and explained why he had a bite of the Barbados pitch.

Rohit stated that the ground had given them the win and he would remember it for the rest of his life. Thus, the 37-year-old -- who announced his T20I retirement shortly after India's win -- shared that he wanted to keep a piece of the track with him forever.

'I will remember that ground forever in my life and that pitch as well'

After the captain's photo shoot with the T20 WC trophy, Rohit said in a video shared by BCCI, "See, those things are actually, I don't think I can describe that because nothing was scripted. It was all, you know, whatever was coming instinctively, I was feeling the moment, when I went to the pitch, because that pitch gave us this. We played on that particular pitch and we won the game, That particular ground as well. I will remember that ground forever in my life and that pitch as well. So I wanted to have a piece of it with me. Yeah, those moments are very, very special. And the place where all our dreams came true. I wanted something of it. So that was the feeling behind it."

'I will remember that ground forever in my life and that pitch as well' After the captain's photo shoot with the T20 WC trophy, Rohit said in a video shared by BCCI, "See, those things are actually, I don't think I can describe that because nothing was scripted. So that was the feeling behind it." 'My Player of the Match...,' Sanjay Manjrekar says Kohli's innings put India in danger in 2024 T20 WC final

Team India gave a fitting farewell to outgoing head coach Rahul Dravid by winning the 2024 T20 World Cup in the contest at the Kensington Oval, Barbados on Saturday (June 29). Rohit Sharma-led India opted to bat first versus South Africa and rode on Virat Kohli's 76 to post 176-7 before restricting the Proteas for 169-8 to win by 7 runs courtesy of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya's heroics. After the game, the Indian players passed on the T20 WC trophy to Dravid, who broke into celebrations. Dravid, the former Indian captain, had a stellar run in international cricket from 1996-2012, but never won any major tournament. Nonetheless, his dream was fulfilled, albeit as a coach, courtesy of India's triumph in the just-concluded mega event, held in West Indies and the USA.

After India's sensational win, their former coach Greg Chappell also reacted to the Rohit & Co.'s achievement. He congratulated India and reacted on Dravid winning the title as coach. Both announced their retirement from the shortest format for India after the title win. "Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will always be an inspiration for future generations. They have been playing for so long that it may have crossed their minds that they are getting injured more often. To play for so many years and keep yourself fit is a challenging task." "Their retirement paves the way for the next generation to take over the mantle. They have done a lot for our country, in T20Is and other formats as well. Every athlete retires, everyone has to walk away. It's a natural process. I think they got the best farewell. They won the T20 World Cup and are leaving on a high," Chopra said. India had set South Africa 177-run target to win the 2024 T20 World Cup. India won the toss and elected to bat first in Barbados and scored 176/7 in 20 overs. As for South Africa, they were ahead most of the time and needed 30 runs in last five overs with Heinrich Klaasen and Miller on the crease. The chase derailed after Pandya dismissed Klaasen in 17th over and from thereon India came out as eventual winners, holding SA at 169/8.
