Former India coach Ravi Shastri has praised Jasprit Burmah’s ability to work on the ball as he compared the pacer to legendary bowlers like Shane Warne and Wasim Akram. Speaking to the ICC Review show, Shastri reckons, Bumrah can control the ball according to his will. The legendary bowler recently helped India win their second T20 World Cup in the West Indies after the Men in Blue beat South Africa in the final.

<h2>Shastri is full of praise for Bumrah</h2>

“He just showed the world what it takes and you know, it's not often in your career when you have a ball in your hand and you say, do this and the ball does that,” Shastri said on ICC review.

“Very few have done it, I thought Wasim [Akram] and Waqar [Younis] had it in their prime when they played white-ball cricket. Shane Warne had it where he could literally tell the ball, go there, pitch there, hit leg stump. People who are on top of the game have that ability. I think Bumrah had that in this World Cup,” he added.

Bumrah has been rested in the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka as part of the workload management. He is not part of the ongoing series where both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returned to the side for the ODI leg. He has struggled with injuries in recent times and wants to be available for the important series for India in the future.

Bumrah is likely to return for the Bangladesh series in September and will be the side’s lead bowler in the five-match Test series against Australia. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will start in November and will be targeted by Bumrah. He only returned to the Test set-up during India’s tour of South Africa in December having missed more than a year in the red-ball format.

Former India skipper MS Dhoni has spoken about his relationship with star Indian batter Virat Kohli and said that he enjoyed batting with Kohli during his playing days.

“We have been colleagues who played for India for a very long time. He (Kohli) has been amongst the best when it comes to world cricket. And the fact that I could bat a lot with him during the middle overs was a lot of fun because we used to take a lot of twos and threes in the game, so it has always been fun," Dhoni said on the sidelines of an event.

Dhoni, however, acknowledged that even though he doesn't meet with Kohli often he&nbsp;definitely chats with him for some time when the two players meet during the Indian Premier League (IPL) or any other event.

"It is not like we meet very often, but whenever we get a chance, we make sure that we go on the side and chat for some time. We talk about what is going on, so that is our relationship,” added the former wicketkeeper-batter.

Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020 but has been playing in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Kohli, on the other hand, announced his retirement from the T20Is following India's T20 World Cup win in June earlier this year.

<h2>Ex-Pakistan Spinner on India Playing in Champions Trophy 2025</h2>

Former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has addressed India's reported reluctance to travel to the neighbouring country for the 2025 Champions Trophy. His statement came after reports of budget approval by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

"It's simple. If India wants to come, they can. If they don't want to come, it doesn't matter. There's no point in making a fuss about it. This won't make either party good or bad. This is ICC's event, and they will look into this matter, as they should," Mushtaq said as reported by Cricket Pakistan.

Both India and Pakistan face each other in the ICC and Asian tournaments only and do not play in bilateral series due to political tensions between them.

It is to be noted that India also didn't travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 and its matches were instead held in Sri Lanka including the final. Pakistan, however, later on, travelled to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

It will be interesting for&nbsp;Pakistan to travel to India for the 2025 Asia Cup if the BCCI decides against sending a team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.

As for the budget, the ICC has approved an amount of US$70 million for the tournament including US$4.5 million for extra expenses.

"The approximate budget is around USD 70 million and only USD 4.5 million has been allocated as additional expenses," reported news agency PTI citing a source.

Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that it is now up to the ICC to convince India to come to Pakistan and play.

"The PCB now has done what was required of it as hosts of the Champions Trophy. It has submitted the draft schedule and format for the event and also submitted budget for the event,” reported PTI citing a PCB source.

<h2>India-Sri Lanka contest ends in tie</h2>

Needing 231 runs to win the opening ODI against hosts Sri Lanka, the Indian team made a good start to their innings with returning skipper Rohit Sharma slamming a fifty while Shubman Gill scored 16. The pair put together a 75-run stand for the opening wicket before Gill was dismissed. Soon the Indian team lost Rohit on 58 while Washington Sundar departed for 5 off 4. Former skipper Virat Kohli, who has a great record against Sri Lanka also did not make any impact and was dismissed for 24 off 32.

Soon the Indian team was 197/7 needing 35 runs to win and having three wickets in hand. Shivam Dube held one end for India until he was dismissed for 25 while Axar Patel contributed with 33 off 57.

With India having two wickets in hand and more than two overs to spare and needing a run to win, things did not pan out well. However, Arshdeep Singh was also given lbw on the next ball and the match ended in a tie.

Hasaranga and Charith Asalanka both ended with three wickets each and helped the Lankan team end the losing streak against India. Both nations will next meet on Sunday in the second ODI at the same venue with no team leading the series.

SL vs IND, 1st ODI: Hasaranga spoils Rohit, Virat's return to Indian side as dramatic contest ends in tie

Rohit Sharma-led India have commenced the three ODIs versus hosts Sri Lanka, in Colombo, on Friday (Aug 2). Since Rohit's last international appearance, a lot has changed in Indian cricket. He was last seen on the 22-yard cricket strip during India's T20 World Cup 2024 final win versus South Africa, in Barbados on June 29. Following the victory, he -- along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja -- stepped aside from T20Is. Coming back into the Indian team&nbsp;for the ODIs versus Sri Lanka, Rohit is now working with new head coach Gautam Gambhir -- who took over from Rahul Dravid after the T20 WC triumph. On being asked about the new coach's approach, and new T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav after their recent 3-0 series win over the Islanders, Rohit gave an interesting reply.

In the pre-match presser, Rohit said about Surya,&nbsp;"It's early days (in his captaincy); I don't want to talk too much about it. He has done a great job, and let him continue doing it. We start jumping into things (judgement) quite quickly, regardless of wins or losses. Let him do things consistently, and then we can talk about it. It's definitely a good start for them in that format. They played well as a unit, which is what Team India is all about. I'm sure they are heading in the right direction."

On the new coach, Rohit opined, "Gautam Gambhir has played a lot of cricket and he has been involved with franchise cricket also before. Obviously, it is going to be different from the previous support staff. Ravi Shastri was there before Rahul Dravid joined the team, every individual works differently. I know Gambhir for a very long time and we have played a little bit of cricket together. He has a very clear mind and knows what he wants from the team."

Rohit-Gambhir's first assignment is the three ODIs versus Sri Lanka in the island nation. Post that, the two will shift their focus on India's gruelling home season before the ICC Champions Trophy, early next year.

Don't want to...: Rohit Sharma on new India coach Gautam Gambhir's approach

Ahead of the three ODIs versus Sri Lanka, Indian captain Rohit Sharma made it clear that Men in Blue isn't taking the Lanka games as a 'practice ground' for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The mega event will be held early next year, scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan, and India only have a handful of ODIs before that. While Rohit admitted that the team has one eye on the Champions Trophy but stated that the SL ODIs isn't a 'practice ground'.

Prior to the series opener in Colombo, on Friday (Aug 2), Rohit said in a press conference, "You get asked a lot whether this series is a preparation for the World Cup, or is this a preparation for the Champions Trophy. It's not a practice ground - it' still an international game. We will keep in our minds what we want to achieve, but this is by no means preparation or practice or anything like that. We want to come here and play good cricket and get something out of the series."

He added, "Of course we want to try everything possible, but when you're representing the nation, the quality of cricket should remain the way it is, and how we've played over the last few years. That is more important, rather than thinking about it as a preparation and saying let's go out and chill in Colombo. We don't think like that."

Rohit, along with Virat Kohli, returns to international cricket following the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. Hitman and Kohli retired from T20Is post the historic win in the mega event, held in West Indies and the USA. Along with Kohli and Rohit, ODI regulars such as KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will also be in action during the Lanka ODIs.&nbsp;

Earlier in the tour, Suryakumar Yadav-led India whitewashed Sri Lanka in three T20Is which also kickstarted the Gautam Gambhir-era in Indian cricket. Gambhir took over as India's head coach from Rahul Dravid, whose tenure ended post the T20 WC win.

On Wednesday (Jul&nbsp;31), former Indian cricketer and coach Anshuman Gaekwad passed away at the age of 71 after a prolonged battle with blood cancer. The countdown for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has begun with franchises and team owners planning for the mega auctions which will take place later in the year. While plenty of big names are set to go under the hammer, one name that is making the rounds is legendary Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player MS Dhoni. Now 43, CSK are still planning to retain the player but have proposed a change in the rule to have the services of the player who will likely play his last season in the IPL 2025.

<h2>CSK propose change in rule</h2>

According to a report&nbsp;from Espncricinfo, the CSK owners have proposed a change in rule during the IPL stakeholders meeting on Wednesday (July 31). According to reports, CSK wanted the reintroduction of a rule that had existed since the inaugural edition in 2008 until 2021, when it was believed to have been scrapped at the behest of teams. According to this rule, if a player was retired from international cricket for five or more years, they would be classified as an uncapped player. It is understood that apart from CSK, the majority of the other franchises were not in favour of reintroducing the rule.

MS Dhoni last played for India in 2019 and could qualify as an uncapped player for the IPL 2025 if the rule is reintroduced. However, apart from CSK, other teams are not in favour of the rule putting a big spanner in the works&nbsp;for Dhoni to be retained.

<h2>Can Dhoni still play for CSK in IPL 2025?</h2>

CSK still have three options to get Dhoni's services in IPL 2025 – they can retain him as part of the retention policy. However, this will see CSK lose out on a big chunk of cash while spending in the auction due to the retention value of the player. The second option could see CSK release Dhoni and ask him to enter the auction and purchase him with the Right to Retain (RTM) card, which allows CSK to match the winning bid for any of their former unretained players.

However, the RTM is not yet officially confirmed for the IPL 2025 mega auctions and is subject to further board meetings. The final option for CSK will be to outbid every other franchise in the mega auctions in case RTM is not in place which allows them to retain MS Dhoni’s services.

World Cricket League peaks in India, garners audience of 30 million

An intense IPL franchise owners meeting took place at the BCCI headquarters, at the Wankhede Stadium, on Wednesday (Jul&nbsp;31). The meeting was for the owners to put forth their views on the number of retentions ahead of this year's mega auction, later this year. It, however, turned into a debate on the relevance and future of the mega auctions with current champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) being against it whereas the likes of Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS)&nbsp;in favour of it.

According to a top BCCI source (who was in the meeting), as per a report in Cricbuzz, KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan fiercely made the case against mega auctions and was even believed to be engaged in a heated argument with Ness Wadia, the co-owner of PBKS, over the number of retentions.

Nonetheless,&nbsp;Wadia clearly denied being engaged in a debate with KKR owner Shahrukh. He said, "I have known Shah Rukh for more than 25 years. There is no animosity here. Everyone gave their views, and they had their opinions. At the end of the day, you have to look at all the stakeholders and do what's best for all. That's most important."

IPL 2024 runners-up SRH's owner Kavya Maran, meanwhile, opined that&nbsp;her franchise's preference is for a mini-auction every year rather than having a mega auction altogether. In a statement, Maran said, "It takes a lot of time to build a squad and as discussed it also takes quite a bit of time and investment for the younger players to mature. It has taken Abhishek Sharma three years to become consistent with his performances. You would agree that there are many such examples in other teams too."

On the other hand, DC's co-owner Parth Jindal mentioned,&nbsp;"I was surprised that there was a debate on whether to hold the big auction," he said. "Some people said that there should not be a mega auction at all. There should be only smaller auctions. I'm not in that camp. I feel that it evens the playing field and it's very good for everyone. It makes the IPL what it is. It makes it competitive. It makes it an even playing field. What we are learning is that team owners don't want the auction. It's just a few owners."

The other owners who turned up at the meeting were DC's Kiran Kumar Grandhi, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)'s Sanjiv Goenka, Chennai Super Kings (CSK)'s Rupa Gurunath, Rajasthan Royals' (RR)&nbsp;Manoj Badale Royal Challengers Bengaluru&nbsp;(RCB)'s&nbsp;Prathmesh Mishra whereas&nbsp;a&nbsp;few of them attended the meeting via video conference, including the Ambanis of Mumbai Indians (MI) -- who are currently in Paris for the Olympic Games.

The BCCI later released a statement saying, "The franchise owners tabled feedback on player regulations and other commercial aspects, including central merchandising, licensing, and gaming." It further added, "The BCCI will now take these recommendations to the IPL Governing Council for further deliberation and evaluation before formulating the IPL player regulations."

Shahrukh vs Ness Wadia in IPL owners' meet? Intense debate over number of retentions, mega action - Report

MS Dhoni, who is enjoying his time off the field since IPL 2024, was recently asked by a fan, in an event, to name his current favourite bowler. Without second thoughts, the veteran Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star named Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah was last seen in action during Rohit Sharma-led India's triumphant run in the 2024 T20 World Cup, in West Indies and USA. The speedster ended as the Player-of-the-Tournament with 15 scalps, third-most, at an economy rate of 4.17.

When asked the tough question at the&nbsp;event, Dhoni said, "Current favourite, it’s easy to pick a bowler since Bumrah is there. It’s difficult to pick a batter because we have several good batters but that doesn’t mean bowlers aren’t good. It’s difficult pick one among batters as whomever I see batting, he looks the best but then I see someone else he also looks great. As long as team India are doing fine, I don’t want to pick a batter but I hope they will keep scoring runs. However, I have picked my favourite bowler."

Notably, Bumrah made his international debut, in early 2016, under Dhoni's&nbsp;captaincy. Since then, the pacer has grown from strength to strength and is an integral part of the Indian team across formats [and also for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL].

The speedster ended as the Player-of-the-Tournament with 15 scalps, third-most, at an economy rate of 4.17. When asked the tough question at the event, Dhoni said, "Current favourite, it’s easy to pick a bowler since Bumrah is there. However, I have picked my favourite bowler." Skipper Suryakumar Yadav turned an unlikely hero with the ball as India beat Sri Lanka in a T20 thriller decided by a Super Over to sweep the series 3-0 on Tuesday.

Spinners Rinku Singh and Suryakumar bowled the 19th and 20th overs in Sri Lanka's chase of 137 and the match ended in a tie at Kandy's Pallekele International Stadium.

Washington Sundar then took two Sri Lankan wickets to end the Super Over quickly with the hosts scoring just two runs, which India overhauled in just one hit by Suryakumar -- in batting mode.

Sundar was elected man of the match after he picked up two wickets in the Sri Lankan chase. Ravi Bishnoi, Rinku and Suryakumar also took two each.

India's new-age T20 team, led by Suryakumar and coached by Gautam Gambhir, have started strongly after the retirements of stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja following the team's T20 World Cup triumph last month.

Suryakumar led from the front with the bat in the first two wins to clinch the series.

He surprisingly bowled the final over when Sri Lanka needed six to win.

"More than the last over, I feel when we were around 30-4, how the boys showed character, 140 was a par score on that track," player-of-the-series Suryakumar said. "I told, if we put our heart in, we could pull it off."

He added: "The amount of skill they have, self-confidence, it makes my job easy. The positivity, the care for each other is unbelievable."

Suryakumar, an attacking batsman who bowls off-spin, took two wickets in successive balls in his first outing as a bowler in T20 matches after Rinku also got the ball in the penultimate over for the first time in the shorter format.

<h2>Batting collapse</h2>

It was another batting collapse for Sri Lanka who fell like a pack of cards after they needed 30 off the last 30 balls with nine wickets in hand.

Kusal Perera made 46 before being caught and bowled by Rinku.

Sri Lanka, led by Charith Asalanka, won the toss delayed due to rain in Kandy and elected to field first on a new pitch, which helped spinners.

Maheesh Theekshana took charge in the second over to send back Yashasvi Jaiswal for 10 and soon India were reduced to 30-4 inside six overs with Suryakumar out for eight.

Debutant Chamindu Wickramasinghe took his maiden wicket when he dismissed Sanju Samson for a duck.

Shubman Gill, who made 39, and Riyan Parag, who hit 26, attempted to rebuild in a sixth-wicket partnership of 54.

Sri Lanka kept chipping away but Sundar boosted the total with his 25 and then the visiting bowlers roared.

"Definitely (the target was gettable), we need to do more as professional cricketers," said Asalanka. "I want to see good batting performances in the ODIs. Our top three and four have done well and that's the only positive for us."

India had rested top players, including Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant, in four changes to the team.

The two teams will now play three ODI matches as India await the return of skipper Rohit and Kohli in the 50-over series starting August 2.

India take series 3-0 against Sri Lanka with super over win in third T20I

It was an evening filled with drama in the final T20I between India and Sri Lanka on Tuesday (Jul&nbsp;30) as the hosts lost a tight contest in the Super Over. The win for India also saw them register a 3-0 win over Sri Lanka in what was Gautam Gambhir and Surykaumar Yadav’s (as captain) first series. After the win, Sky was full of praise for the Indian team players for the character they showcased with Sri Lanka needing eight runs to win from two overs and six wickets in hand at one stage.

<h2>Suryakumar Yadav applauds Indian team</h2>

"More than the last over, I feel when we were around 30 for 4 and 48 for 5, how the boys showed character in the middle and took the game away from them, I felt 140 was par score on that track and the way they batted. When we were going in during our fielding sessions, I told them I had seen such kinds of games. I think if we put our heart in for one, one-and-a-half hours we can pull it off,” Suryakumar said after India beat Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

Needing eight runs to win in the last two overs, Sri Lanka collapsed against a bowling attack led by Riyan Parag and Suryakumar Yadav. The hosts were unable to chase the target in the 20 overs and could only tie the contest leading to a Super Over. But things went downhill for Sri Lanka, who could manage to score only two runs in the Eliminator before Sky rocked the hosts with a four on the only ball faced by India.

The win also saw India start on a winning note in the Gautam Gambhir-Suryakumar era having bagged whitewash wins in the process. The team will next take the field in the ODI series which starts on Friday with top players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma back in the team. Rohit will lead the side with the likes of Hardik Pandya and Sky set to return home having been dropped for the ODI series.

SL vs IND: Skipper Suryakumar Yadav praises team mentality after Super Over win, says 'boys showed character'

It has been over a month since Rohit Sharma-led India won the 2024 T20 World Cup, held in West Indies and the USA. In the mega final, India beat South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling clash at the Kensington Oval, Barbados on June 29. With this, Rahul Dravid's coaching tenure also ended, with Gautam Gambhir succeeding him. After India's win, the team was stranded in Barbados for a couple of days due to Hurricane Beryl. The hurricane had also prompted a 48-hour closure of the airport before BCCI Secretary Jay Shah arranged a Chartered Flight (which comprised the players, team management and even journalists) for a lengthy 16-hour journey to New Delhi.&nbsp;

During the lengthy flight, a Star Sports producer, who was travelling with the team, shared details of what the players were up to. The energy was high as players hardly slept and the producer revealed that Dravid left business class and came to the economy whereas captain Rohit was seen jokingly 'scolding' someone.&nbsp;

As per a report in HT, the producer said, "On this flight, Barbados to Delhi, I think hardly anyone slept for more than six hours. That would have been the maximum. At no point was anyone quiet. Everyone was mingling around. Players came to meet the members of the press and few others. Star Sports engineers were also part of the flight because theirs was cancelled and they were also accommodated. But there was a lot of interaction. Rohit Sharma came several times. I believe at one moment, Rahul Dravid came up to the economy section to figure out if there was a 4-seater because he wanted to sleep. He came there from the business class and slept there for some time."

He further opined, "I remember I was sleeping and I could suddenly hear Rohit scolding somebody. I saw and he was standing right there. But Rohit, in his style was scolding jokingly. After that, Hardik came, Rishabh came and they were all having discussions with the media. So obviously, there was a lot of chatter."

Upon landing in India on July 4, the entire Indian team was cheered by the general public. Even the airport staff were seen clapping for the victorious Men in Blue. Despite a lengthy flight, the Indian team remained high in spirits and had a hectic day. They checked in at the ITC Maurya, New Delhi, where they were welcomed with drums and roar before leaving to meet PM Narendra Modi.

Post meeting the PM, Team India left for Mumbai -- where they were also welcomed with a majestic water cannon salute. In the evening, the triumphant team left from Nariman Point to reach the Wankhede Stadium in an open-top bus parade, along with thousands of ardent fans following them. At the iconic stadium, they were felicitated by the BCCI for the T20 WC win.

India won the T20 WC for the second time, since 2007, and also ended their 13-year-long ICC title drought. At present, the white-ball teams are in Sri Lanka with the three ODIs to kick off on August 2 (Friday). On Tuesday (July 30), the Suryakumar Yadav-led India whitewashed the Lankans in three T20Is.

Post the Dravid-era, India have moved onto a new period under coach Gambhir. While Rohit remains the Test and ODI captain, Surya has succeeded him, post Hitman's T20I retirement, in the shortest format.

Dravid left business class, Rohit was scolding...: Titbits from India's Barbados-Delhi flight post T20 WC win

South Africa were the runners-up in the recently concluded T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies with Kagiso Rabada being the only Black player in the Proteas squad. The fact, however, didn't put any pressure on the bowler as he helped South Africa reach their maiden ICC tournament final.

"It didn't put any more pressure on me at all. It would be such a heavy thought, during a World Cup, thinking about yourself being the only black player in a team. That seems like torture for me. That just takes away from focus," said Rabada from Trinidad as reported by ESPNCricinfo.

"I'm a black player, yes. If I don't feel like I should have been there on merit and if people don't feel that way, then it's fine. I'm not invincible. I can be dropped as well but I believe in myself," Rabada added.

The South Africa team is currently in the West Indies for a two-Test series.&nbsp;

The Proteas, since their readmission to world cricket in 1991, have&nbsp;had a sort of reservation for the coloured players (those who are not white) including two black African players. They had to play four coloured players in Playing XI till 2016.

Since 2016, however, the rule has become a bit fluid with the team required to play six coloured players of which at least two must be black African players over the course of a season.

Rabada played splendidly and was the second-highest wicket-taker for South Africa in the tournament behind Anrich Nortje.

"You ask yourself, what are some of these factors that might make a player feel that way [that they are only included because of their colour], and it's factors such as we lost because of transformation or because we had to include players of colour or black Africans. And that always happens in World Cups," he said.

Champions Trophy 2025: Afghanistan to host South Africa for three ODIs in Sharjah in tune-up for mega event

India's spin bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar has lauded new T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav for 'having a big heart' as a leader after the visitors stunned Sri Lanka in the third and final T20I, in Pallekele, to inflict a series whitewash. Sundar was referring to Surya's bold and unconventional bowling changes as India restricted Sri Lanka to&nbsp;137/8 after managing the same score. With the Lankans only needing 9 off the last two overs, Surya gave Rinku Singh the penultimate over and bowled the last six balls to not allow SL go past India's score before winning the game in the Super Over.

Speaking to the media after the match, Sundar -- who bowled the Super Over and only conceded two runs and dismissed Kusal Perera and Pathum Nissanka -- lauded Suryakumar's leadership. He stated, "It's amazing of him, amazing of his leadership skills, to be honest. With 12 balls to go and 12 runs (9) needed, he brought in Rinku, especially with Kusal Perera batting, and Rinku got him out. Surya then came in for the last over and won the game for us."

With the pitch being more conducive for slower bowlers, Surya gambled with part-time off-spinner Rinku to bowl the 19th over, with left-hander Kusal Perera still in the middle. He then bowled the final over, conceding just five runs and picking two wickets, to miraculously take the game to the Super Over, where India held their nerves.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sundar highlighted Suryakumar's courage and leadership and&nbsp;opined, "We all know he has a big heart when he bats, but he also shows it in his leadership. All credit goes to him; it was amazing."

He further added, "Surya kept telling us that one or two wickets in the middle overs would change the game, especially in low-scoring matches where even run-a-ball situations can create pressure. I hope the audience enjoyed the game because you don't often see such matches. It feels great to be a part of this kind of game."

Sundar himself had a good run in the low-scoring match. After India were asked to bowl first and they were reeling at 48-5, the left-hander&nbsp;contributed 25 runs in India's 137/9. Later, he also claimed 2 for 23 in SL's run-chase before his heroics in the Super Over. "Honestly, I had no idea I would bowl (the Super Over), but after the batsmen walked out, Surya turned to me and said, 'Washy, you're on.' I was very happy; it's a great opportunity to step up and win the game for my country. Thank God things went well," the 24-year-old concluded.

Sundar was also the Player-of-the-Series in India's five-match T20I series win (4-1) over Zimbabwe, in the African nation, held early this month.

Apart from Sundar, Rinku, Surya and Ravi Bishnoi also claimed two wickets each as India pulled off a blinder&nbsp;in the final T20I and&nbsp;completed a series whitewash over SL. The visitors&nbsp;already had a 2-0 lead, having won the series opener by 43 runs and the second T20I by seven wickets (DLS method) in Pallekele.

The action will now move onto the three ODIs, which commences on Aug 2&nbsp;(Friday) with Rohit Sharma to lead India.&nbsp;

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi is all set to become the next Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief after current president Jay Shah's tenure gets over next year. The ACC has a rotation policy to select its chiefs and PCB is next in line for that.

The topic was also discussed in the recently concluded ACC meeting, where the hosts for the next two Asia Cups were also decided.

“When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm that Naqvi will be the next president for a two-year term,” a source said about the next ACC chief, as reported by the news agency PTI.

“When Shah steps down the PCB chief will take over,” PTI further reported quoting the source.

As for the Asia Cup - the 2025 edition will be played in the T20 format in India as a precursor to the 2026 T20 World Cup, while the 2027 edition will be played in ODI format in Bangladesh, given the same format for the World Cup later that year.

It will surely be interesting to see if Pakistan also decides to play its matches in hybrid model instead of travelling to India for the Asia Cup next year.

In the 2023 edition, India had not travelled to the neighbouring country citing security reasons and its matches were played in Sri Lanka. BCCI secretary Jay Shah was the ACC chief last year and approved those changes.

It is to be noted that Pakistan is also hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy, and reports of India's uncertainty over travelling to the host country are&nbsp;doing the rounds in the media.

The International Cricket Council (ICC), meanwhile, has put aside supplementary funds for the tournament in case India has to play its matches outside Pakistan, reported the news agency PTI.

England's Australian white-ball coach Matthew Mott has resigned from the post with immediate effect ahead of Jos Buttler-led side's home series versus arch-rivals Australia in September. Thus, assistant coach Marcus Trescothick will take charge of the side for the Australia series -- comprising three T20Is and five ODIs -- amid the England Cricket Board's (ECB) search for Mott's successor.

Notably, Mott came into the England setup following a celebrated time with the Australia women's team. He came into the England setup in early 2022, with the national side focusing on split-coaching. While Brendon McCullum took over the Test line-up, Mott became the white-ball coach and led Jos Buttler &amp; Co. to the 2022 T20 World Cup title. Under him, England won the white-ball series against Australia, Bangladesh, Ireland, New Zealand, Netherlands and Pakistan but fell flat in the 2023 ODI World Cup. At one point, England also risked not qualifying for the 2025 Champions Trophy during a forgettable ODI WC campaign in India. However, they finished the mega event with a qualification berth. Further, Mott also guided England to the semifinals of this year's T20 WC, in the West Indies and the USA.

Mott summed up his coaching stint with England and said, "I am immensely proud to have coached the England Men's team; it has been an honour. We have put everything into trying to achieve success over the past two years, and I am incredibly proud of the character and passion that the team has displayed during that period, including a magnificent T20 World Cup victory in 2022."

"I would like to thank the players, management, and everyone at the ECB for their commitment, support, and hard work during my time. I leave with many great friendships and incredible memories. Finally, I would like to thank the England fans, who have always backed us and given us fantastic support wherever we have travelled around the world," he added.

Rob Key, Managing Director of England men's cricket, stated, "After three World Cup cycles in a short space of time, I now feel the team needs a new direction to prepare for the challenges ahead. This decision was not made lightly, but I believe it is the right time for the team's future success. With our focus shifting towards the Champions Trophy early next year and the next cycle of white-ball competition, it is crucial that we ensure the team is focused and prepared."

Key opined, "Marcus Trescothick is well respected in the dressing room and will take charge of team affairs alongside white-ball captain Jos Buttler. Marcus and Jos have a good rapport, and I think their partnership will help us maintain continuity and stability." He added, "The search for a full-time replacement will now begin. It is essential that we go through the right process to ensure we get the best person for the job."

Meanwhile, Trescothick, the interim white-ball coach, spoke at length about the future plans, keeping in mind the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan and said, "The focus is building towards the series against Australia and our plans for next year's Champions Trophy campaign," Thescothick said. "England cricket is in a strong position, and the potential is huge, given the quality we have available. It is about harnessing that potential and developing the work that has already been put in place by Mathew Mott and the rest of the set-up. I'm excited about the challenge and shaping how we want to play."

Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris made a big claim about Suryakumar Yadav as India's T20I captain. Surya was recently promoted as the T20I captain after he pipped Hardik Pandya for the top job with new head coach Gautam Gambhir and BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar citing fitness issues for the latter. Under Surya, India have already won the ongoing three T20Is versus hosts Sri Lanka, with an unassailable 2-0 lead following an easy win in the second game. However, Styris feels the dashing batter is a 'short-term option' as Gambhir hasn't got a 'natural captain' to work with at present.

Styris told India Today, "I think he's a short-term option. I don't think Gambhir has a natural captain amongst the players that he has right now. He's buying himself time as to who will be the next long-term captain."

The New Zealander, however, lauded the team management for naming&nbsp;Shubman Gill as the white-ball vice-captain for the SL tour. After the three T20Is, the action will move to the three ODIs with Rohit Sharma to lead the side. Gill, who is currently Surya's deputy in T20Is is also the ODI vice-captain. Styris feels this is a right call as Gill is being looked upon as a future captain and, hence, is the right candidate to be vice-captain at present.

<h2>'Gill could do the job for 10 years for India'</h2>

Styris commented, "You know, someone like Gill I think could do the job for 10 years for India, but he's not quite ready right now, so I think it was a really smart decision to bring in someone with a bit more experience."

He added, "If he (SKY) does a decent enough job, then he might be the captain at the next T20 World Cup. And then after that, you can look at Gill or any of the other potential options around. But yeah, I think it's a really clever decision."

Defending champions India are set to host the 2025 T20 Asia Cup. The next edition of the continental event will take place in the shortest format in India, as a dress rehearsal for the 2026 T20 World Cup -- to be held in India and Sri Lanka. Thus, India will host the Asia Cup after a gap of 34 years. Meanwhile, the 2027 edition will take place in Bangladesh and will be played in the ODI format ahead of that year's World Cup. The Asian Cricket Council confirmed the development in a recent statement.

Ben Stokes-led England inflicted a series whitewash over West Indies as hosts ended the three-match Test series with a 3-0 scoreline, on Sunday (July 28). While the hosts were challenged in the last two Tests, they came out on top and negated every threat to beat Kraigg Brathwaite-led side in every game. The home series win is special for England following their 4-1 drubbing at the hands of India, early this year. Moreover, they have a new-look side with James Anderson's retirement and Jonny Bairstow losing his spot after his 100th Test (in Dharamsala). Thus, Test coach Brendon McCullum reacted to the series win by saying that 'it is really satisfying' to see the team's growth.

After the series win, McCullum said, "It's really satisfying, the growth of the side in general. Sometimes, when you lose, you get a period of reflection (indicating about the India series loss) and what we've seen is a team which has bounced back with a bit more of a harder feel to it."

<section itemprop="articleBody">
McCullum further reckoned that England are not a "finished product" yet, and&nbsp;have taken giant strides towards becoming the team that can win not only at home but also abroad.

For England, the likes of young guns such as&nbsp;Gus Atkinson and&nbsp;&nbsp;Jamie Smith stepped up in their respective roles. The two youngsters made a solid mark with Atkinson ending the series with 22 scalps (most by any) whereas Smith amassed 207 runs at a strike-rate of 71.62. In addition, Chris Woakes -- who is now the leader of the pace attack following Anderson's retirement -- took the new role with ease, returning with 11 wickets (third-most). Even Shoaib Bashir, playing his first series at home, ended with a five-fer in the second Test in Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

McCullum spoke at length on the changes within the team and said, "We knew we needed to make a couple of improvements to continue to improve as a side. We brought in some new faces and some guys that have shown that they're very comfortable at international level, and until you give some people an opportunity, you don't know right?

"What we've seen from Gus Atkinson, from Shoaib Bashir and Jamie Smith.. these guys have shown that international cricket is where they belong and they've performed accordingly. It's really satisfying from that point of view, but also the growth of the side in general," he added. Stokes-led England have moved to the sixth spot in the ongoing 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) after the series triumph over West Indies.

Former Pakistan pacer Tanveer Ahmed has challenged the Indian cricket team to 'come' to play Champions Trophy 2025. There's been a lot of uncertainty over India's travelling to Pakistan for the ICC tournament early next year.

“We are lions,” Ahmed declared. “We came and played cricket in your country. Come here and show... We are inviting you to come and play. We will provide security; we will give you everything. Just come once,” said Ahmed on his YouTube channel as reported by Cricket Pakistan.

“This is only the job of Pakistani players, brother. Only Pakistani players came and play, then left. Whether they win or lose, they play the kind of cricket they do. They went to India, played there, and came back. This is what you call a brave team and brave players,” he further added.

Notably, India also hadn't travelled to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023 and its matches were subsequently held in Sri Lanka. Pakistan, however, travelled to India for 2023 ODI World Cup played right after the regional tournament.

The news agency PTI, meanwhile, has reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has left the responsibility to convince the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to travel for the tournament up to the ICC.&nbsp;

"The PCB now has done what was required of it as hosts of the Champions Trophy. It has submitted the draft schedule and format for the event and also submitted budget for the event,” reported PTI citing a PCB source.

Both India and Pakistan face each other in the ICC and Asian tournaments only and do not play in bilateral series due to political tensions between them.&nbsp;

The Champions Trophy 2025 is expected to be played from February 19-March 9 next year with all of India's matches to be hosted in Lahore as per draft schedule.
