Team India is all set for the latest transition phase as they take on Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series starting on Saturday (Jul&nbsp;24). The tour will mark the start of the Gautam Gambhir coaching era where fresh names have got opportunities in the T20I set-up while old faces like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retain their places in the ODI set-up. Speaking ahead of the tour, former India World Cup winner Ashish Nehra opened up on the linking of Virat and Gambhir who will be sharing the same dressing room while on national duty.

<h2>Nehra opens up on Virat, Gambhir</h2>

According to Nehra, there shouldn’t be any issues between the pair despite having clashed several times in the opposite dugout during the Indian Premier League (IPL). Nehra thinks, both are good professionals and fight till the end for the jerseys they don.

"Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir are two very passionate individuals. Whenever they play for a team, they can turn up against the opposition. But, when they are together in a dressing room, they are together, united for the team. You're talking about Virat Kohli, who has experience of over 16-17 years, Gautam Gambhir is also experienced,” said Nehra&nbsp;while speaking to Sports Tak.

“The things on the outside, people get an impression about it. It's not just Gambhir and Kohli, so many players have had on-field spats in the past, but when they play together for a team, they have done well as a player, as a coach-captain, as a coach and senior player," added Nehra.

After the T20 World Cup in June, both Rohit and Virat announced their retirement from the format for India, but are back in the national side for the ODI series. Rohit will be the team captain while Virat will serve as an important member of the ODI and Test side. Both will be important for India’s success at the 2025 Champions Trophy and World Test Championship (WTC).

Ashish Nehra backs Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir to come good for India ahead of Sri Lanka ODI series

Hardik Pandya was snubbed from T20I captaincy after Gautam Gambhir took over as India's new head coach, post Rahul Dravid's resignation. With India winning the 2024 T20 World Cup last month, held in West Indies and USA, Rohit Sharma retired from the format. Given Hardik served as his deputy in the mega event and also led India in many games during Hitman's sabbatical from T20Is, the all-rounder was the obvious choice to take over but Gambhir, and BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar, named Suryakumar Yadav as the new skipper. They reasoned out that since Hardik has been injury-prone, they need a captain who is on the field and available for all games.

Recently, Ashish Nehra -- former Indian pacer -- opined on Hardik's T20I captaincy snub. Nehra, who has worked with Hardik in Gujarat Titans (GT) during IPL 2022-23, feels 'not surprised' with the decision. The ex-speedster further mentioned&nbsp;that such changes are uncommon and lauded Gambhir-Agarkar for communicating it all with Hardik.

Talking to Sports Tak, Nehra said, "No, I am not surprised. When it comes to cricket, these things keep happening. Yes, Hardik Pandya was vice-captain in the World Cup, but at the same time, there is a new coach who has come in. Every coach and every captain have different thoughts. At this time, his (Gambhir's) ideas are toward that direction."

He stated, "I think Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir have made it clear, that's good. He is playing one format, 50-over also, he is playing less. Hardik Pandya, in white-ball cricket, will remain a very, very important player for Indian cricket. When you have him, you can have 4 fast bowlers, he brings a different balance to the side and keeps in mind, that there's no impact player in international cricket."

"Not just Hardik Pandya, but when you have so many matches, there will be changes. Even Rishabh Pant has captained, KL Rahul has captained," Nehra reasoned.

Hardik-Nehra&nbsp;were a successful captain-coach pair when GT were inducted into IPL in 2022. They won the championship in their maiden appearance and ended as runners-up in 2023 before Hardik moved to his former franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of IPL 2024. Following this, Shubman Gill took over and was named the new GT skipper. While he didn't have a desirable start, Gill was recently entrusted with captaincy during India's tour of Zimbabwe, where they won a five-match T20I series 4-1.

Despite some of his calls being criticised, Gill has been named India's white-ball vice-captain for the Sri Lanka tour, which starts on July 27 (Saturday). Nehra opened up on the youngster and said, "They have made Shubman Gill in not just one format but in all three formats. That means you are looking ahead."

The ODI World Cup winner added, "Shubman Gill is a work in progress. He is 24-25 years old now. He will get better as we go ahead. He has the desire to play all 3 formats, he has the heart to learn. He is not someone who thinks that whatever he is doing is right. He is not that kind of guy. Be it a youngster or an experienced player, he likes to have a discussion and learn."

Scotland captain Richie Berrington was full of praise for Cassell while presenting him with his cap ahead of the match.

"You've come back from a huge setback, with that massive injury you had, put you out for a year and a bit. Just to see your resilience coming back, getting back on the park, and just love watching what you do at Forfs [Forfashire], and just the way how you hold yourself is incredible," he said.

Former Baroda team head coach Dav Whatmore has lashed out at India all-rounder Hardik Pandya for missing 'years of cricket' for his domestic team. Pandya, who was recently snubbed for India's T20I captaincy, plays for Baroda in India's domestic cricket tournaments.

"There's still some individuals who don't play white-ball cricket. For example, in my last few years in Baroda, Hardik Pandya wouldn't ever play white-ball cricket. It always amuses me that he's termed as the all-rounder from Baroda but he hasn't played for Baroda for years! So, yes, there are some who don't do that," Whatmore said on Pakistan-based YouTube channel Pak Passion.

"But recently, I've seen that the BCCI have been keen that players participate in the Ranji Trophy as well as other two formats to ensure they see cricket as sports. Efforts are made to make sure 4-day cricket is not neglected," added Whatmore who coached Baroda for two seasons, in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

Most recently, Pandya has been asked to play in Vijay Hazare trophy (domestic 50-over tournament) to prove his fitness as an all-rounder. The direction came after Gautam Gambhir took over as India's new head coach following T20 World Cup 2024.

India chief selector Ajit Agarkar revealed later on that the all-rounder's fitness issues cost him the captaincy despite being more experienced than Surya.

Hardik got injured during India's 2023 ODI World Cup campaign and did not play any competitive cricket till Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as Mumbai Indians skipper. He then took part in the T20 World Cup and played a pivotal role.

India pacer Mohammed Shami's friend Umesh Kumar has revealed that the bowler had contemplated suicide after being accused of match-fixing by his now separated wife Hasin Jahan. The pacer had also admitted to be in a tough phase during the separation from his wife.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that the onus lies on the International Cricket Council (ICC) to convince the Indian cricket board for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. The statement comes amid media reports about India's reluctance to travel to Pakistan for the 50-over tournament.

"The PCB now has done what was required of it as hosts of the Champions Trophy. It has submitted the draft schedule and format for the event and also submitted budget for the event,” reported&nbsp;news agency PTI citing a PCB source.

"It is now up to the ICC how soon they circulate, discuss and finalize the schedule of the Champions Trophy. The PCB for its part in the draft schedule has suggested hosting all of India's games in Lahore including a semi-final (if India qualifies) and final," the source further said.

It has submitted the draft schedule and format for the event and also submitted budget for the event,” reported news agency PTI citing a PCB source. "It is now up to the ICC how soon they circulate, discuss and finalize the schedule of the Champions Trophy. The PCB for its part in the draft schedule has suggested hosting all of India's games in Lahore including a semi-final (if India qualifies) and final," the source further said. The news of fund allotment was reported by Cricket Pakistan website citing local media reports. There was also no discussion held on India's reported reluctance about travelling to Pakistan for the tournament.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been pushing for a hybrid model to play their games at a neutral venue instead of going to Pakistan, claim some media reports.

ICC approves Champions Trophy 2025 budget for Pakistan, no discussion on India's participation

Former India head coach Rahul Dravid is all set to make a comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Rajasthan Royals (RR). Dravid decided not to extend his contract with the BCCI as head coach after taking the team to 2024 T20 World Cup glory.

"Talks are going on between RR and Dravid, an announcement in his regard is round the corner," reported&nbsp;the Times of India (TOI) citing a source.

Dravid has previously been a player-mentor with the Royals as well.

He joined the Royals in 2011 and played three seasons with them before taking on the mentor role for the next two years. Dravid then went on to join the BCCI as U-19 and India A cricket team coach.

Under Dravid, the India U-19 team reached&nbsp;the 2016 and 2018 World Cup finals and won the latter. The former India skipper then joined the National Cricket Academy (NCA) as chairman before becoming the head coach of the senior team in 2021.

With Dravid as head coach, India's senior team reached the semifinal of the 2022 T20 World Cup but lost to England by 10 wickets. Under Dravid, India also lost the World Test Championship (WTC) Final for the 2021-23 cycle and the ODI World Cup 2023 final at home.

He eventually went out with a trophy in his hand after India won the recently concluded T20 World Cup by beating South Africa in the final on June 29

Dravid was reportedly going to join IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) earlier. He would have replaced Gautam Gambhir as KKR mentor after the former India opener replaced Dravid as the new India head coach.

Gambhir's first assignment as the coach will be the upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka which starts with three T20I games on July 27, 28 and 30 and ends with three ODIs on August 2, 4 and 7.

Former India head coach Rahul Dravid to be back in IPL with his old franchise? Read Inside

Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa made a big claim on new captain-coach Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir. With Gambhir replacing Rahul Dravid as new India head coach, until 2027 ODI World Cup, all eyes are on how he takes the team forward across formats. Gambhir will be working closely with Rohit, who will continue to lead India in Tests and ODIs and work in tandem with Suryakumar Yadav, the new T20I skipper. Uthappa, who has played under Gambhir in Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), feels Rohit-Gambhir will be 'as effective' as Rohit-Dravid.

<h2>'Gambhir is someone who is always available and&nbsp;provides security to his group'</h2>

During a virtual interaction by Sony Sports Network, Uthappa said, "He (Gambhir) has been an incredible man manager. The narrative that is set about him as a player on social media is one that is quite 'Gambhir'. But, I think, individually, he is a thorough gentleman. He will be absolutely approachable. He is someone who is always available, he is very empathetic and he is there for his players. He looks after his players really well and he is someone who provides security for the group. We have seen that, not just as a captain, but in his mentorship roles at LSG and KKR. We have seen the results he has produced with both teams."

He further opined, "I don't think his leadership style will change very much. I just think that his passion and the intensity that he brings to this team will be different. He will expect high standards, and he will maintain a high standard himself as a leader. I think he will be a very fair leader and he is someone who provides security to his group. So, I think Rohit and Gautam will make a different combination than Rohit and Dravid, but I think it will be as effective."

Uthappa added, "He has always been someone who has thrived under pressure. He is someone who looked at the big stages as places of opportunity. As far as I am concerned, I look at him similarly as a leader of this group. He will look for the big opportunity, he will try and get that same attitude and the same kind of performance from his players. He will create opportunities for people to thrive, and he will create an environment like that, I can vouch for it."

"He is not just a great captain, a great tactician but he is an incredible leader of men. He is an incredible leader of people. He creates infrastructures within the group that allow people to thrive. I believe in people operating from a place of security so that they can thrive rather than operating from a place of insecurity where they try to survive," the two-time IPL winner concluded.

Gambhir has not coached a team at the competitive level, however, he has been immensely successful as KKR captain from 2011-2017. Under his mentorship, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) reached the playoffs on both occasions -- in 2022 and 2023 -- whereas Kolkata won their first-ever IPL title after 2014 early this year.&nbsp;

Gambhir's first assignment as India coach kicks off on July 27 (Saturday) with Suryakumar-led India locking horns with Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series opener in Pallekele. The T20I leg will be followed by three ODIs, in Colombo.

Former Indian opener Robin Uthappa has shared his opinion on Hardik Pandya losing T20I captaincy to Suryakumar Yadav. With Gautam Gambhir taking over from Rahul Dravid as the India head coach, his first big decision was to announce the new T20I skipper following Rohit Sharma's retirement after the 2024 T20 World Cup win. Gambhir and BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar named Suryakumar as the new captain and reasoned that they need a captain who can play all T20Is. With Hardik being injury-prone, he, thus, missed out on leading India in T20Is despite being the stand-in captain from late 2022-2023 during Rohit's sabbatical.

Recently, Uthappa -- winner of the 2007 T20 WC -- opened up and shared his take on Hardik not being appointed captain.&nbsp;During a virtual interaction organised by Sony Sports Network, Uthappa said,&nbsp;"If I were in Hardik's place, I would actually feel taken care of to a certain extent. Because within the Indian cricket ecosystem, a fast-bowling all-rounder is a very rare commodity.&nbsp;If I'm 34-35 years old and I'm someone who's been injury-prone through my career and a certain responsibility has been taken away from me with the mindset of extending my career and giving me the best chance to offer my services to my country for as long as possible, keeping that in view, I would actually say OK this is the best thing for me."

The former right-handed batter Uthappa pointed out, "Yes, leading India and leading a country is one of the greatest honours that any figure can ever imagine. I think, uh, the larger picture would be, can I serve my country for as long as possible and win as many world championships for my country as long as possible."

He further mentioned, "If you asked me between the two what I would pick as a human being, I would say, serving my country and winning as many World Cup championships, irrespective of whether I was a captain or whether I was just a player. "

Uthappa added, "Knowing Hardik Pandya on a certain level, I would say he'd be someone saying it's fine, their perspective is also right. They want a player of my quality and my caliber to be able to serve my country for as long as possible. And I would love to do that as well. I would love to do that in the white format, which I'm currently available for. I can leave whenever, whenever required. God forbid if Suryakumar Yadav has an injury. I'm available, and I'm playing a bunch of tournaments. The need ever requires I will always be available to lead my country, but I would love to serve my country in white-ball cricket."&nbsp;

‘I would actually say...’: Robin Uthappa shares his take on Hardik Pandya being snubbed from T20I captaincy

Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan remembered late coach Bob Woolmer and stated that he would've taken Pakistan cricket to greater heights had he served for a longer period. Woolmer was appointed as Pakistan's head coach in 2004, however, his tenure came to an end after he was mysteriously found dead after the Inzamam-ul-Haq-led Men in Green's shocking defeat to Ireland during the 2007 ODI World Cup in West Indies. Further, Younis added that he regrets not sitting with Woolmer&nbsp;that night as per their custom.

Younis said on a Pakistan News Channel as quoted by&nbsp;PTI, "I have no doubt that if Woolmer had remained head coach, Pakistan cricket would have been very different today, and he would have taken it to great heights. I was very close to Bob (Woolmer) and it was our daily routine to sit down together after a match or nets to discuss cricket. Unfortunately, the night he passed away, we didn't sit together as we had lost to Ireland."

He further mentioned, "I was also out for a duck (versus Ireland) and was very upset with myself. So, I went to my room and locked myself in. The next day, I didn't see him at breakfast and later we learnt about his death."

Younis revealed that the entire Pakistan team was moved to a different island following Woolmer’s death. After their early exit from the ODI WC, they were interrogated for three days. Further, Younis added that he regrets not sitting with Woolmer that night as per their custom. Younis said on a Pakistan News Channel as quoted by PTI, "I have no doubt that if Woolmer had remained head coach, Pakistan cricket would have been very different today, and he would have taken it to great heights. I was very close to Bob (Woolmer) and it was our daily routine to sit down together after a match or nets to discuss cricket. Unfortunately, the night he passed away, we didn't sit together as we had lost to Ireland." So, I went to my room and locked myself in. The next day, I didn't see him at breakfast and later we learnt about his death." Younis revealed that the entire Pakistan team was moved to a different island following Woolmer’s death. After their early exit from the ODI WC, they were interrogated for three days. <h2>Sri Lanka announce 16-man squad</h2>

With the T20I series set to start on Saturday, the hosts had yet to announce the squad for the three-match assignment. However, on Tuesday the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced the team which marked the return of two key players. Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Perera returned missing the former returning to the squad after February 2022 having missed a chunk of white-ball cricket during that period.

Chandimal’s last ODI match was in November 2022, but could now help regain the attention of the selectors ahead of the Champions Trophy, which starts in less than six months. Perera on the flip side missed the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA due to an injury and will look to re-launch his career.

The biggest news however was the selection of Asalanka as the new skipper of the T20I series as tries to fill the shoes of Hasaranga who led the side during the poor T20 World Cup campaign. Asalanka was the likely choice of the selectors having been with the team for the last few years. Interestingly, there was no place for former captain Angelo Matthews having been overlooked for white-ball cricket yet again.

According to reports, his white-ball career is all but over with him being only considered for the Test series.

The dust is yet to settle down on India’s historic T20 World Cup win in the West Indies as the fans are still celebrating the victory over&nbsp;South Africa in the final. While the moment goes down in the history books, it also marks&nbsp;the end of some illustrious careers in Indian cricket. Amongst those are Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma who dropped curtains on their T20 careers. However, it was coach Rahul Dravid who had the last laugh having won the T20 World Cup in the same nation where he had once been outclassed in a humiliating fashion in the ODI World Cup as captain.

<h2>Ashwin reflects on Rahul Dravid’s redemption moment</h2>

Reflecting on the moment was Ravichandran Ashwin, who brought back the memories from 2007 when India were eliminated from the group stage of the ODI World Cup in the West Indies. Dravid, who held the T20 World Cup tightly after last month’s win was the center of criticism&nbsp;when India faced the humiliation. Ashwin described Dravid’s moment as the shot at redemption&nbsp;which also helped India end their 17-year wait for the T20 World Cup.

"My moment was when Virat Kohli called Rahul Dravid and gave him the cup. I saw him hug the cup and cry. Rahul Dravid screamed and cried. I saw him enjoy it. I felt that a lot. I want to talk about a person who is sacred. In 2007, during the 50-over World Cup, India got knocked out. Rahul Dravid was the captain at that time. He didn't captain the one-day side after that. He has been with the Indian team. If something doesn't go well, if the Indian team goes out or loses a match, immediately, they ask what Rahul Dravid is doing," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

The win in the West Indies also saw the end of Dravid’s near three-year spell as the head coach of Indian national side. He goes down in the folklore of Indian cricket as one of the greatest coaches having led the side to the T20 World Cup glory and helping them reach the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) and the ODI World Cup final in 2019 where the Men in Blue lost only one match.

Former Pakistan opener Salman Butt has hit out on Indian pacer Mohammed Shami for his 'dirty hit' on legendary Pak batter Inzamam-ul-Haq. Shami recently had indirectly called out Inzamam for selection of his nephew Imam-ul-Haq in the national team during his tenure as Pakistan chief selector.

"Pakistan should not pick teams based on relations and friendships. Mohammed Shami's comments were targeted towards Inzamam-ul-Haq. He targeted Inzamam by speaking about Pakistan picking their team based on personal relations, and I think this is wrong. This is wrong because if you look at Imam's record, he came into the Pakistan team on the basis of his performance. He was also dropped when he failed. Shami's remarks were below the belt and he shouldn't have said such things," Butt said on YouTube.

"Yes, there was a controversy, which should've been avoided. A lot of people made statements, Inzamam also said something, Rohit Sharma also clarified, and the topic was over. But to say things about selecting players just because they are relatives is a dirty hit. Such things don't suit Mohammed Shami. He is a renowned bowler, like how Inzamam was a renowned captain," he added.

Butt was referring to Inzamam's comments on Indian bowlers tampering with the ball during the recent T20 World Cup to get reverse swing. India skipper Rohit Sharma had then pointed out the conditions in the USA, T20 World Cup co-host, which abetted reverse swing.

Shami, during a podcast on YouTube with Shubhankar Mishra's had said: "I don't understand why people find it necessary to target others. Improve your selection, and send a good team, they can do it, the talent is there. Do one thing, make it a family team if you want to run the team based on personal relations,"

India eventually went on to win the T20 World Cup by beating South Africa in the final.&nbsp;

India chief selector Ajit Agarkar has shared his take on dropping Sanju Samson from the upcoming ODI squad of white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. Samson was most recently part of India's five-match T20I tour of Zimbabwe which the Shubman Gill-led team won 4-1.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday (Jul 22) ahead of Indian team's departure for Sri Lanka, Agarkar explained the reasoning behind dropping the wicketkeeper-batter.

“Every player left out feels hard done. You’ve got to see who’s picked ahead. At this stage, we had the opportunity to send guys to Zimbabwe. Sometimes it’s just the way things go. Tough to stuff all in 15,” Agarkar said in Mumbai.

India chief selector Ajit Agarkar has revealed that it was Hardik Pandya's fitness issue which saw Suryakumar Yadav being named India's T20I skipper. SKY replaces Rohit who retired from shortest format after recent T20 World Cup glory.

The dashing Mumbai batter was named the new T20I skipper ahead of India's white-ball tour of Sri Lanka and Agarkar made the comments at the press conference for the same.

"One of the main issues [discussed] was that you want a captain who's likely to play all the games," Agarkar said on Monday (Jul 22) in Mumbai.

"We want him (Hardik) to be the player he can be, because those sorts of skillsets are difficult to find. Fitness has been a challenge for him over the last few years. Then it (appointing Hardik captain and losing him to injury) becomes a bit difficult for the coach as well as the selectors. The chief selector also referred to dressing room feedback on appointing Surya as the next skipper.

"Why Surya was made the captain, because he is one of the deserving candidates," the former India bowler said.&nbsp;

"He's been around the group over the last year, we get feedback from the dressing room a lot. [He has a] good cricket brain, and [is] one of the best T20 batters in the world," he added.&nbsp;

Amid the rumours of India not travelling to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025, Pak all-rounder Hasan Ali has said that 'it doesn't mean cricket has ended.'

The statement by Ali came while talking to a Pakistan-based channel Samaa TV. Pakistan are the defending champions, having won the title in 2017 by beating India in final.

"As the PCB chairman has said, if the Champions Trophy is being hosted by Pakistan, it will only be played in Pakistan. If India do not want to come, we will play without them," said 2017 edition's Player for the Series Ali.

"If India doesn't participate, it doesn't mean cricket has ended," he added.

This is not the first time that the dispute over India travelling to Pakistan for a cricket tournament has risen. In 2023, India did not play their Asia Cup matches in Pakistan but in Sri Lanka instead.

The neighbouring country, however, travelled to India for 2023 ODI World Cup after the Asia Cup.

Ali took the example of the same situation and said: "If we (Pakistan) are going to India to play, then they should come to Pakistan as well,"&nbsp;

"Many Indian players have said in interviews that they want to play in Pakistan. So, it doesn't mean that the team doesn't want to come; they definitely do," Ali said.&nbsp;

"But obviously, they have to consider their policies, their country and their board," he added.

There have been reports doing rounds that India are looking to get their matches shifted to UAE or Sri Lanka under a hybrid model.

The two countries do not play any bilateral series because of simmering political tensions and only face each other in ICC tournaments.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to be played from mid-February to mid-March next year with top eight teams taking part in it.

'Need to be in a relationship with...,' Ex-India batter FUMES at Gaikwad and Rinku's snub from Sri Lanka tour

It was all fun for West Indies batters in the opening session of Day 3 of the second Test match against England as they took the lead against the odds. However, the highlight reel of Saturday (July 20) was the monster six hit by Shamar Joseph as it took everyone by surprise while he broke the tiles of the roof at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. His exploits coupled with Joshua Da Silva‘s brilliant 82-run knock saw the West Indies take a 41-run lead in the first innings.

<h2>Shamar Joseph hits monster six</h2>

Having come out top bat at 386/9 and West Indies trailing by 30 runs, not much was expected from Joseph. However, he was brilliant with the bat and on the fourth ball of the 106th over he gained everyone’s attention. Batting against Gus Atkinson he pulled his bat for a monster six which landed on the roof of one of the Trent Bridge stands, in the process breaking the tiles of the roof. The six also saw West Indies take a first-innings lead to everyone’s surprise.

While everyone was amassed with the shot, pieces of the broken tiles fell on the cricket fans sitting below the stand. Fortunately, no one was injured after the six was hit while also creating a buzzing atmosphere for cricket.

<h2>West Indies take first innings lead</h2>

Having been 386/9, the pair of Joshua Da Silva and Joseph stitched a partnership of 71 runs for the final wicket. Silva remained unbeaten on 82 and missed out on his second Test hundred while Joseph was dismissed for 33 of 27, entertaining the crowd at Trent Bridge. Their brilliant partnership meant that West Indies ended with a first-innings lead of 41 runs making England bowlers sweat for the final wicket. As things stand, the match hanging in balance not much separates both sides and could still be anyone’s contest.

At the time of writing, England were 27/1 and were trailing by 14 runs in the second innings as they narrowed down the deposit.

<h2>India win one-sided contest</h2>

Having been tasked to chase 109, India’s opening pair of Smriti Mandhana (45) and Shafali Verma (40) stitched a partnership of 85 runs before the former was dismissed. Needing just 24 more runs to win India would then lose Shafali followed by Dayalan Hemalatha (14) as they lost brief momentum. However, it was the mini partnership of skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (5) and Jemimah Rodrigues (3) that got them over the line.

Syeda Aroob Shah bagged two wickets for Pakistan while Nashra Sandhu had one but were&nbsp;not helped by the batters having&nbsp;108 runs to defend.
