<p>Gautam Gambhir shared a clear and bold message for Team India after his appointment as head coach. The former Indian opener stressed on&nbsp;the importance of playing all&nbsp;three formats with a focus on injury and workload management.&nbsp; He&nbsp;made it clear that&nbsp;players would need to do the right thing in the best interest of the team. On Tuesday (Jul&nbsp;9), BCCI named Gambhir as Rahul Dravid's successor, who signed off with India's T20 World Cup win last month.</p>

<h2><strong>'You should be playing all the three formats'</strong></h2>

<p>In a video posted by Star Sports, Gambhir said, "Injuries are part of sportsmen's life. And if you are playing all the three formats, you get&nbsp;injured, you go back and get recovered but you should be playing all the three formats. I am not a big believer to identify people that okay we are going to keep him for Test matches and we are going to keep him and we are going to manage his injury and workload and stuff."</p>

<p>He further opined, "Look professional cricketers, you got a very small span. When you are playing for your country you want to play as much as you can. When you are in very good form, go ahead and play all the three formats."</p>

<p>Gambhir pointed out, "There's only one message to try and play with honesty. Try and be as honest as you can to a profession. All the results will follow. When I picked up the bat, I never thought of the results. I never thought that I'm going to. I want to score these many runs. I've always believed that I have to be as honest as I can to my profession. Live on certain principles, live on certain values, try and do the right things, and try and do things, even if you think the whole world is against you. But your heart believes that you're doing the right thing for the best interest of team."</p>

<p>He added, "Whether I've been aggressive on the cricket field, whether I've had confrontations with people, just because it was all in the best interest of the team. Try and do that because, ultimately, it's the team that matters, not an individual. So go out there and only think of one thing to try and make your team win whichever team you play for. Because that is what team sports demand. It is not an individual sport where you think about your own self. It is a team sport where it is the team that comes first, you're probably the last one that comes in the entire line up."</p>

<p>Gambhir will take over with the commencement of India's white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, starting on July 27. India will play three T20Is and ODIs each in the Island nation before they return home for their upcoming home season.</p>

<p>Under Gambhir, who has been appointed till 2027 ODI World Cup, India will look to add to their ICC titles. They are set to compete in, at least, two WTC finals and play both the World Cups once. In addition, the Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held, in Pakistan, early next year.</p>

<p>Former India women skipper Anjum Chopra thinks it's a little too early for a Women's Test Championship. It is to be noted that India Women's head coach Amol Mazumdar had said yes to the same after the recent Test victory against South Africa in a one-off Test.</p>

<p>India women spinner Sneh Rana, who took 10 wickets in the win against SA, had echoed the same views as coach Mazumdar.</p>

<p>Speaking to WION, Chopra, however, said that more countries need to play Test cricket before a championship like in men's cricket could be organised.</p>

<p>"It's little too early for Test Championship for women because there are not so many countries in the world which play Test match cricket. So, the first target or step towards the target of WTC (for women) will be the fact that more than 2 or 3 countries play Test cricket on a more regular basis."</p>

<p>"Something like two-day or three-day concept can get introduced for other teams which are not playing full fledged Test cricket. The better would be to introduce associate nations to cricket simultaneously while the full members play red ball than just playing a WTC between two or three teams," added Chopra.</p>

<p>The former skipper also spoke on the steps that could be taken by both BCCI and ICC to further make the game popular among the masses.</p>

<p>"Consistency, the more the girls play in front of the crowd, the more familiarity people will get about it. More competitive matches will assist in the growth," she said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"If the frequency increases in women's cricket with one series leading to another that will help. Not easy to achieve but it will help the growth immensely," she further added.</p>

<p>Gautam Gambhir is expected to take over as India head coach very soon. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had revealed that India will get their new head coach from the upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, scheduled to kickoff later this month. With Gambhir reportedly even shooting his farewell video with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp, where he rejoined as team mentor in late 2023, the Indian cricket board is expected to announce the big decision very soon. Gambhir and WV Raman, former Indian cricketer and women's team coach, were among the only two applicants to go through the interview process, conduced by the Cricket Advisory Council (CAC). After the interview process, Gambhir was reportedly termed as the top contender. However, many are perplexed as to what is the delay in the official announcement with Gambhir looking set to take charge.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to The Indian Express, Gambhir and BCCI are in the "final stages of salary negotiations",&nbsp;which is delaying the official announcement. Notably, the BCCI keeps the options open regarding the salary of the head coach of the senior men's team. Even in the advertisement inviting applicants for the top post, It was clearly mentioned that the remuneration is "negotiable and will be commensurate with experience."</p>
