<p>According to the report, the top 15 Indian states in terms of using UPI for digital payments are Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Assam and Haryana. The states accounted for 90 per cent of total UPI transactions in terms of value, and the average ticket size ranged from INR 1,600 to 2,000 ($19 to $25).</p>

<p>“Thus, UPI has effectively replaced much of the currency in circulation,” the SBI report mentioned.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>UPI: Driving India’s digital payment revolution</strong></h2>

<p>According to the Economic Survey 2023 released earlier this year by India’s Finance Ministry, more than 52 per cent of 8,840 crore financial digital transactions were done using UPI in the financial year 2022-23.</p>

<p>December 2022 was the month which saw UPI touching its highest-ever mark in transactions in terms of value. A whopping 782 crore transactions worth INR 12.8 lakh crore were made during that month alone.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>India to export UPI to Gulf nations</strong></h2>

<p>The UPI’s owner, which is the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), is in talks to export UPI to several Gulf countries including the UAE and Bahrain. As per media reports, the move will incredibly help Indian workers living and working there, as they regularly send money to their family members living in India.&nbsp;</p>

Odisha train tragedy: Railway denies reports that signal junior engineer is absconding

<p>One of the closest aides of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is found to have harboured plans for&nbsp;a military coup in the country to prevent the transition of power following the October presidential elections last year.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Coup allegations against Bolsonaro’s closest aide</strong></h2>

<p>The reports of one of Bolsonaro’s aides exploring the possibility of resorting to military means to prevent the smooth transition of power first emerged in the news magazine Veja. Now, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has unsealed the police report to support these damning claims.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the police report, Cid looked into “the possibility of using the armed forces, on an exceptional basis, to ensure the independent and harmonious functioning of the Powers of the Union, through determination of the President of the Republic."</p>

<p>He has also been accused of gathering "documents with the aim of obtaining 'legal and judicial' support for the execution of a coup d'état."</p>

In response, Bolsonaro and his legal team have consistently maintained his innocence. However, Bolsonaro himself is currently under investigation for various matters, including his potential role in instigating the attack that occurred on January 8.</p>

<p>The recent discovery of material on Cid's phone has added to the mounting evidence suggesting that members of Bolsonaro's inner circle were actively exploring ways to prevent Lula from assuming office and diminish the powers of Brazil's top federal courts.</p>

<p>A tragic accident in rural Manitoba, Canada has claimed the lives of at least 15 individuals, as reported by local authorities. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when a truck collided with a bus carrying senior citizens at an intersection. The bus was heading to a casino near Carberry, travelling south on Highway 5, while the semitrailer was heading east on Highway 1, shared Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer Rob Lasson&nbsp;while speaking at a news conference.</p>

The bus was heading to a casino near Carberry, travelling south on Highway 5, while the semitrailer was heading east on Highway 1, shared Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer Rob Lasson while speaking at a news conference. The collision took place at the intersection of the two highways, north of Carberry, which is approximately 170 kilometres (105 miles) west of Winnipeg. Lasson stated that it was immediately evident that this was a situation involving multiple casualties. In addition to the 15 fatalities, 10 individuals have been admitted to a hospital for treatment, including the drivers of both vehicles. ‘Unprecedented’ accident The response to the accident was swift, with 12 ambulances and an air ambulance rushing to the scene. Jennifer Cumpsty, executive director of Acute Health Services, confirmed this information. Lasson expressed that such a mass casualty incident on Manitoba's roads is unprecedented, and the investigative team is grappling with the emotional toll it has taken on them. PM Trudeau expresses condolences In light of the tragedy, flags were lowered to half-mast at Manitoba's legislative building, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his condolences in a statement on Twitter. Trudeau wrote, “The news from Carberry, Manitoba is incredibly tragic. I’m sending my deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones today, and I’m keeping the injured in my thoughts.
