Apollo 7 was a magnificent step toward space, making way for the moon landing. It was also NASA's first successful crew mission since the deaths of Apollo 1 astronauts on the Kennedy launching pad in January 1967.&nbsp;

Cunningham, then a civilian, was one of the three astronauts aboard the 1968 Apollo 7 mission, an 11-day flight transmitting live broadcasts as it orbited Earth.&nbsp;

He crewed the mission with US navy Capt Walter M Schirra and US air force major Donn F Eisele.

NASA in a statement said that the three astronauts flew a perfect mission, making the space agency send the next crew during the Apollo 8 mission.&nbsp;

Remembering the successful mission, Cunningham in 2017 during an event at the Kennedy Space Sation said, "enabled us to overcome all the obstacles we had after the Apollo 1 fire and it became the longest, most successful test flight of any flying machine ever."

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is allowing retail pharmacies to offer&nbsp;abortion&nbsp;pills in the United States for the first time, the agency said on Tuesday (January 3), as more states seek to ban medication&nbsp;abortion. Pharmacies can apply for certification to distribute&nbsp;abortion&nbsp;pill mifepristone with one of the two companies that make it, and if successful they will be able to dispense it directly to patients upon receiving a prescription from a certified prescriber.

The FDA had first said it would be making those changes in December 2021 when it announced it would relax risk evaluation and mitigation strategies, or REMS, on the pill, that had been in place since the agency approved it in 2000 and were lifted temporarily by the government in 2021 due to the pandemic.

Danco Laboratories and GenBioPro, the two companies that make the drug in the United States, submitted supplemental applications that have now been approved by the FDA.

"Under the Mifepristone REMS Programme, as modified, Mifeprex and its approved generic can be dispensed by certified pharmacies or by or under the supervision of a certified prescriber," the agency said on its website on Tuesday.

Mifeprex is the brand name version of mifepristone, which in combination with a second drug called misoprostol that has various uses including miscarriage management, induces an&nbsp;abortion&nbsp;up to 10 weeks into a pregnancy in a process known as medication&nbsp;abortion.

The regulatory change will, however, not provide equal access to all people, GenBioPro, which makes the generic version of mifepristone, said in a statement.

Abortion&nbsp;bans, some targeting mifepristone, have gone into effect in more than a dozen states since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to terminating pregnancies when it scrapped its landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling last year.

Retail pharmacies will have to weigh whether or not to offer the pill and determine where they can do so.

CVS Health said it was reviewing the certification requirements. A spokesperson for Walgreens, one of the largest U.S. pharmacies, said the company was also reviewing the FDA's regulatory change.

The New York Police Department on Monday said that a 19-year-old boy who attacked three police officers with a machete on New Year's Eve has&nbsp;been charged with assault and attempted murder.&nbsp;

Pakistan&nbsp;Railways (PR)&nbsp;are in trouble with passenger and freight trains being run with only three-day oil inventory, claims a report.&nbsp;

As the economic crisis deepens in the South Asian country, as per the report&nbsp;a few days back the oil stock had fallen to a low of only a day, forcing the railways to limit their services.&nbsp;

A senior official told Dawn, "A couple of days ago, the railways was left with only one-day oil stock across the country. This forced the authorities to reduce the freight train operations, especially from Karachi and Lahore. It has never happened in the history of the PR. I think the railways will default if the government continues ignoring the department."

The report also claimed that railway workers and officials were getting their salaries around&nbsp;&nbsp;15-20 days late. Due to&nbsp;this, train drivers across the country decided to hold strikes or protests across the country as they didn't receive their salaries even on Dec 20.

The official said, "You can now imagine the PR’s situation well."

Earlier&nbsp;the railways' assets stayed underutilised due to the inefficiency and alleged negligence&nbsp;of&nbsp;the senior officials, and in the current situation, political instability and unrest triggered by the political parties in the county are adding to the departments' troubles.&nbsp;

A new study has revealed that the world needs better vaccines and vaccination campaigns as 50 to 70 per cent of kids below the age of 19 were vulnerable to SARS-Cov-2 in 2021 before the Omicron wave.&nbsp;The study said, "Findings indicate that, by the end of 2021 and before the Omicron wave, around 50-70 per cent of children globally were still susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection, clearly emphasising the need for more effective vaccines and better vaccination coverage among children and adolescents, particularly in developing countries and minority ethnic groups."
