The rupee stands at 82.72 to the US dollar, which soared due to US Federal Reserve's monetary policies, standing at its biggest annual gain since 2015.&nbsp;

Japanese Yen performed the worst by falling more than the rupee, which was down over 12 per cent against the dollar.&nbsp;

The rise in oil prices brought on by Russia's invasion of Ukraine also affected the rupee and resulted in India's current account deficit reaching a record high in the third quarter of the year.&nbsp;

In 2023, traders and analysts predicted the currency to move between the 81.50 and 83.50 range in the first quarter. They added that equity inflows will also act for the rupee to move.&nbsp;

Warning of possible heads up for recession, Christopher Wong, an OCBC Bank FX strategist said, "There's going to be a period of softness in global equities... If we get a selloff in Indian shares, I'll be less optimistic on the rupee."&nbsp;

He added that the South Korean won and the Thai baht are predicted to perform better next year, but the Indian rupee might still lag and might not be a top choice in the market.&nbsp;

Over 200 emergency doctors and medical officers appointed by the government to improve patient care in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) have not received their salaries for four months due to lack of funds.&nbsp;The officials revealed that the salary got delayed because of the unavailability of funds, long process of appointments and verification by boards of Khyber Medical University and Pakistan Medical Commission, said a Dawn report.&nbsp;

The officers told Dawn that the medics were hired in April 2021 under the Accelerated Implementation Programme (AIP) to take care of district areas. They said that the government sanctioned 300 positions for medical officers with a monthly package of Rs 200,000 ($2,418).&nbsp;

Officials added that against 300 posts, only 283 appointments were made but many doctors either resigned or were terminated over legal reasons bringing the tally down to 172.&nbsp;

The officer said that due to such initiatives medical facilities and care in tribal areas of the south Asian country have improved but are not working any more due to delayed salaries.&nbsp;
