French Open champion Iga Swiatek said securing a spot in the top 10 of the world rankings was evidence her game had become more consistent after the Pole struggled with some 'frustrating'&nbsp;results following her maiden Grand Slam triumph last year.

"It is pretty crazy and I'm really proud of myself that I'm actually starting to be more consistent because that was my goal from the beginning," Swiatek told reporters.

"Actually, I feel right now that I am doing huge progress in that matter."

Swiatek went from being a largely unknown teenager to acquiring celebrity status in October when she became Poland's first Grand Slam singles champion and the youngest woman to win the title since Monica Seles in 1992.

Following her, Roland Garros win she skipped the rest of the 2020 season, and the Adelaide International had been her only title this year before Sunday.

She lost in the fourth round of 2021 Australian Open and also made early exits at the WTA 1000 events in Miami and Madrid.

"It was actually a bit frustrating after French Open because sometimes you can't see the result of your work," said Swiatek, who last week called herself a "perfectionist".

"Obviously winning a Grand Slam is great, but after that comes rankings, and this year it was different.

"So I'm really proud that I'm going to have in my resume that I'm top 10 because I always wanted that. I also want to be consistent. So right now our goal is to keep me in that place and go further."

"As&nbsp;football&nbsp;fans, we were appalled by the attempt to set up a European Super League,"&nbsp;read. "It was a direct threat to the integrity of the game, destroying the concept of sporting merit and open competition."

Of the 12 European clubs that looked to form a closed European competition, six were from England's Premier League -- Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur.

There have been increasing calls for an independent regulator following the row over Project Big Picture, an attempt by the "Big Six" in the Premier League to gain greater control over the game, and the European Super League proposal.

"We welcome the fan-led Government review of the game," the letter added.

"And hope it leads to lasting change on an array of important concerns, including coordinated strategies to deal with racism, supporters' representation within clubs, LGBTQ issues, ticket costs and the distribution of income."

Those figures are up from 35 per cent who backed cancellation in a survey by the paper a month ago, and 34 per cent who wanted a further delay.

"I am one of those in the 80 per cent. I think the Olympics should be postponed. Is it that difficult to postpone it?" passer-by Sumiko Usui, 74, told AFP in Tokyo.

Takahiro Yoshida, 53, also expressed doubts over the event, which involves thousands of overseas athletes, officials and media.

"In my honest opinion, it will be difficult to hold the Games... Athletes from overseas must be worried as well,&nbsp;because&nbsp;Japan's coronavirus&nbsp;situation is bad," he said.

"I want to see it happen, but it will probably be difficult when you think about the bigger picture."

Only 14 percent support holding the Games this summer as scheduled, down from 28 percent, according to the Asahi poll of 1,527 replies from 3,191 telephone calls.

"Making tea, ironing my clothes also helped me prepare for the game. I would pack my bag the day before the game, my brother taught me all of it and it became a habit. I followed the same drill even in the last match I played for India,"&nbsp;he added.

"Over a period of time I realized that besides preparing physically for a game, you have to prepare yourself mentally also. In my mind, the match started long before I entered the ground,"&nbsp;the Master Blaster further said.
