Wagner chief accuses Russian military of bombing his forces, vows revenge

A new mission is underway to the Titan submersible debris site, which was discovered near the wreckage of the Titanic, a spokesperson for Pelagic Research Services told CNN on Friday. Jeff Mahoney, the spokesperson, said that the mission of the Odysseus 6 remotely operated vehicle is to continue searching and mapping out the debris sites.

OceanGate released a statement on Thursday saying that the passengers have "sadly been lost". The statement came after the US Coast Guard said that a "debris field" has been discovered by an underwater robot searching near the wreck of the Titanic for a missing submersible with five people on board.

The report mentioned that the ROV mission began Friday morning and would have taken around an hour to reach the debris field. This is the Odysseus 6 ROV's second mission - on the first mission, it was the one to reveal the debris field containing submersible's fragments.

US Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger said that he can't confirm whether the US Coast Guard will be able to recover the bodies of the five passengers, including the company OceanGate's CEO Stockton Rush, besides Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet.

The officials said that five major pieces were detected amid the debris around the Titanic site. A nose cone, outside the pressure hull, and a larger debris field were among them. During the presser, Mauger said that "this is an incredibly unforgiving environment". He also said that a few hours ago, an ROV from the vessel Horizon Artic found the tail cone of the Titan submersible approximately 1600 feet from the bow of the Titanic wreck.

CNN report mentioned that Mahoney said that any attempts to recover anything from the debris field will be a larger operation because the Titan sub debris will likely be too heavy for Pelagic's ROV to lift by itself, and also mentioned that in case there would be recovery mission, Deep Energy, another company assisting with the mission, will take care of it.

Last year, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said to one of his key allies, Russian President Vladimir Putin, that 'it's not an era of war' while reflecting on the war in Ukraine. He reiterated the same while addressing a joint meeting of the US Congress on Thursday (June 22).

PM Modi again says ‘this is not an era of war’, urges for end to ‘bloodshed, human suffering’

Junior doctors in England are planning to stage a five-day strike in July, a union representing them said on Friday (June 23). This is said to be the "longest single period of industrial action" in the history of the state-run National Health Service (NHS).

The British Medical Association (BMA) said in a statement that the walkouts will take place between 7:00 am (local time) on July 13 and 7:00 am (local time) on July 18.

"We won’t give up until junior doctors are fairly paid," a tweet shared from the handle of Junior Doctors read.

The strike will result in more senior doctors filling in for the work done by junior doctors. They will prioritise emergency and critical care, which would impact thousands of appointments and pre-planned operations.

This is not the first time that the junior doctors are on strike. They also stopped work for three days earlier this month. Further, they also staged a four-day walkout in April and a three-day strike in March.

The dispute is over NHS pay and BMA has asked for "full restoration" of pay, which it says has been cut by 26 per cent. To mitigate the crisis, the government has offered a five per cent hike to end the dispute.

Local reports have mentioned that the pay has decreased by more than a quarter since 2008, a period of time when inflation is taken into account. According to the BMA, many doctors are exhausted because of an increasing workload.

'Government can avert our action...'

Dr Robert Laurenson and Dr Vivek Trivedi, the co-chairs of the BMA junior doctors committee, issued a statement on Friday, which read: "We are announcing the longest single walkout by doctors in the NHS's history – but this is not a record that needs to go into the history books. Even now the government can avert our action by coming to the table with a credible offer on pay restoration."

"The NHS is one of this country's proudest achievements and it is shameful that we have a government seemingly content to let it decline to the point of collapse with decades of real-term pay cuts to doctors driving them away," it added.

"With the 75th birthday of the NHS just days away, neglect of its workforce has left us with 7.4 million people on waiting lists for surgery and procedures, 8,500 unfilled doctors’ posts in hospitals, and doctors who can barely walk down the road without a foreign government tempting them to leave an NHS where they are paid £14 ($17.80) an hour for a country which will pay them properly," it said.

"It has been almost a week since the last round of strikes finished but not once have we heard from Rishi Sunak or Steve Barclay in terms of reopening negotiations since their collapse of our talks and cancelling all scheduled meetings a month ago. What better indication of how committed they are to ending this dispute could we have?" the statement further mentioned.

According to the BMA, many doctors are exhausted because of an increasing workload. We won’t give up until junior doctors are fairly paid. Dr Robert Laurenson and Dr Vivek Trivedi, the co-chairs of the BMA junior doctors committee, issued a statement on Friday, which read: "We are announcing the longest single walkout by doctors in the NHS's history – but this is not a record that needs to go into the history books. Even now the government can avert our action by coming to the table with a credible offer on pay restoration." "The NHS is one of this country's proudest achievements and it is shameful that we have a government seemingly content to let it decline to the point of collapse with decades of real-term pay cuts to doctors driving them away," it added.
OceanGate released a bleak statement on Thursday after the US Coast Guard said that a "debris field" has been discovered by an underwater robot searching near the wreck of the Titanic for a missing submersible with five people on board. It said that the passengers have "sadly been lost".

According to officials, five major pieces were detected amid the debris around the Titanic site. A nose cone, outside the pressure hull, and a larger debris field were among them.

"This is an incredibly unforgiving environment," Mauger added, further mentioning that a few hours ago, an ROV from the vessel Horizon Artic found the tail cone of the Titan submersible approximately 1600 feet from the bow of the Titanic wreck.

No survivors from missing Titanic submersible, all five on board believed to be dead: US Coast Guard

Elon Musk is eager to bring his Starlink satellite broadband to India, but the world's richest man faces strong resistance from Mukesh Ambani, Asia's wealthiest, who runs Indian telecom giant Reliance Jio.

Following a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the US on Tuesday, Musk said he was keen to launch Starlink in India which "can be incredibly helpful" in remote villages that have no internet or lack high-speed services.

What he didn't talk about is how Starlink is at odds with Ambani's Reliance over the government's distribution of satellite broadband spectrum, setting the stage for a battle between two of the world's richest men for satellite services in the world's most populous nation.

Starlink is lobbying India to not auction the spectrum but just assign licences in line with a global trend, saying it is a natural resource that should be shared by companies. An auction may impose geographical restrictions that will raise costs, it said in company letters made public by the Indian government this month.

Reliance disagrees and has called for an auction in a public submission to the government, saying foreign satellite service providers could offer voice and data services and compete with traditional telecom players, and so there must be an auction to achieve a level playing field.

In signs of deepening rivalry, an industry source with direct knowledge said Reliance will continue nudging the Indian government to auction satellite spectrum, and not agree to the demands of foreign companies.

The stakes are high for Musk. His push comes after a 2021 attempt to launch Starlink in India ran afoul of local regulators for taking bookings without a license, and just as he is in talks with India to set up a Tesla factory.

For Ambani, keeping foreign competition at bay in satellite broadband will be another shot in the arm - his Reliance Jio already has 439 million telecom users, making it the market leader, and 8 million wired broadband connections, a 25% market share.

Starlink's view on auctions is shared by Amazon's satellite internet initiative, Project Kuiper, and the British government-backed OneWeb.

Amazon declined comment. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, OneWeb and Starlink parent SpaceX, did not respond. Asked for comment, Reliance referred Reuters to its own and Starlink's government submissions.

AUCTION VS LICENSING

Of the 64 responses from companies, industry groups and others to India's public consultation on satellite spectrum, 48 favoured licensing, 12 voted for an auction, with the rest neutral, according to India's Koan Advisory.

A second industry source said Reliance believes opening the floodgates to established foreign players like Starlink without an auction will allow them "runaway success" just like Amazon, which will hurt Indian firms and create an uneven playing field.

Ambani's Reliance Retail has locked horns with Amazon, but lags the U.S. rival in market share in the e-commerce space.

Deloitte says India's satellite broadband service market will grow 36% a year to reach $1.9 billion by 2030.

Starlink says it is already authorised in 84 administrations around the world and has 1.5 million active users of its low-latency broadband services. Amazon plans to launch its first set of satellites in 2024.

Foreign satellite internet firms are concerned an auction by India will raise the likelihood of other nations following suit, increasing costs and investments, said one of the sources, an Indian adviser to a foreign company.

If India decides on holding an auction, OneWeb will find it difficult to do business in the country, said an industry source. Starlink is waiting for clarity on India's spectrum allocation before firming up its commercial strategy, another source said.

Tim Farrar, an analyst at US-based consultancy TMF Associates, said it would set a "bad precedent" for Starlink to pay a substantial auction amount in India when it is obtaining low-cost licenses in many other countries.

"I'd expect Starlink to make high-profile free offers elsewhere in order to try and demonstrate what India could be missing out on," he said.
