A former US Marine pilot, currently fighting extradition from Australia on charges filed by the US for allegedly training Chinese military pilots in aircraft carrier landings, collaborated unknowingly with a Chinese hacker, according to his lawyer.

Recently, Duggan's lawyer shed light on his client's unwitting association with a convicted Chinese defence hacker, adding a layer of complexity to the case.

Duggan, a naturalised Australian citizen, expressed concerns about requests for sensitive information from Western intelligence agencies, fearing for his family's safety. He denied any wrongdoing regarding US arms control laws but has been detained in an Australian maximum-security prison since his arrest in 2022 upon returning from a six-year stint in Beijing.

In a legal filing supporting Reuters' investigative findings, Duggan's lawyer, Bernard Collaery, revealed correspondence between Duggan and Su Bin, a convicted Chinese defence hacker. Su Bin, arrested in Canada in 2014, admitted to stealing US military aircraft designs through hacking. Duggan's lawyer maintains that his client's interaction with Su Bin was unrelated to the charges against him.

Evidence presented in extradition documents indicated that Su Bin facilitated Duggan's travel from Australia to Beijing in 2012.

Duggan, known to Su Bin as an employment broker for the Chinese state aviation company AVIC, sought assistance in sourcing aircraft parts for his business in Australia. Despite this association, Duggan's lawyer asserted that his client was unaware of Su Bin's potential improper connections.

A 36-year-old man of Indian origin has been arrested in Canada for his involvement in a multimillion-dollar gold heist at Toronto's main airport. This arrest occurred nearly a month after the arrest of five other people linked to the theft, which has been the largest in the country's history.

On April 17, 2023, a cargo container containing over 22 million Canadian dollars' worth of gold bars and foreign currency was stolen from a secure storage facility using counterfeit documentation, as reported by Peel Regional Police. The stolen goods had been transported via an Air Canada flight from Zurich, Switzerland, to Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

Shortly after the plane landed, the cargo was taken off and moved to another spot on the airport grounds. It was reported missing to the police the next day.

On May 6, 2024, Archit Grover was arrested and charged at the Toronto airport as he arrived from India, according to the police.

Earlier, the police had issued a warrant for his arrest across Canada.

He is accused of theft exceeding $5,000 and conspiracy to commit a serious crime, stated the police in a Thursday release.

Grover was detained for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton. Additionally, he is facing charges related to firearms in the US.

Also, the police said they issued nationwide warrants for Simran Preet Panesar, 31, from Brampton, who worked for Air Canada when the theft happened, and Arsalan Chaudhary, a 42-year-old man from Mississauga.

The police believe that two former Air Canada workers helped with the theft. One is now in jail, and the other has a warrant out for their arrest.

Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick confirmed that Sidhu and Panesar worked for the airline. He said, "One person left the company before today's arrests, and the other has been suspended."

On Friday (May 10), the UN General Assembly voted to provide Palestine with additional "rights and privileges" and urged the Security Council to reconsider its request for membership in the United Nations. The resolution, sponsored by Arab and Palestinian representatives, was endorsed by the 193-member world body with a vote of 143-9, with 25 abstentions.

On April 18, the United States blocked a council resolution that enjoyed broad support, which wanted to facilitate Palestine's full membership in the United Nations—a goal long pursued by Palestinians but opposed by Israel.

Deputy Ambassador Robert Wood stated unequivocally on Thursday that the Biden administration was against the assembly resolution. The United States, along with Israel, was among the nine countries that voted against it.

UN General Assembly votes for granting Palestine new rights, member status

Starlink, the satellite arm of Elon Musk's SpaceX, warned on Saturday of a "degraded service" as the Earth is battered by the biggest geomagnetic storm due to solar activity in two decades.

Starlink owns around 60 per cent of the roughly 7,500 satellites orbiting Earth and is a dominant player in satellite internet.

Musk said earlier in a post on X that Starlink satellites were under a lot of pressure due to the geomagnetic storm, but were holding up so far.

Starlink, the satellite arm of Elon Musk's SpaceX, warned on Saturday of a "degraded service" as the Earth is battered by the biggest geomagnetic storm due to solar activity in two decades.

Donald J. Trump, the former president, is in hot water over his Chicago tower's taxes. The IRS, the tax authority, said he might owe over $100 million, as uncovered by The New York Times and ProPublica. Trump claimed his tower was "worthless" for tax reasons, but now the IRS says he might have been too tricky with his taxes.

Trump's big tower in Chicago was supposed to be a success, but it ended up losing a lot of money because of high costs and the recession. When Trump tried to get some money back through taxes, the IRS said he did it wrong.

Double trouble: Writing off losses twice

In 2008, Trump said his tower was a loss and claimed a big tax break. Then in 2010, he tried to get even more money back from the IRS. But the IRS thinks he tried to get money twice for the same problem.

The IRS is now looking into Trump's taxes very closely. If they find he owes money, it could be a huge problem for him. This has been going on for a while, and it's still not clear what will happen.

Tax experts think Trump might have tried to play games with the tax system. If he loses this fight, it could change how taxes work for other people too.

A British tourist in Thailand, reportedly disgruntled, is facing legal trouble for alleged online retaliation. 21-year-old Alexander was arrested after supposedly posting fake negative reviews about a Phuket restaurant, as reported by The Metro.

The dispute arose when Alexander, as per accounts, was denied entry to the restaurant for not being a customer while attempting to use it as a shortcut home. Seeking revenge, Alexander allegedly enlisted friends to flood the restaurant with one-star reviews, causing its rating to drop from 4.8 to 3.1 stars, according to the news outlet.

The restaurant owner, understandably upset by the sudden rush of negative comments and its potential impact on business, filed a complaint. Subsequently, Alexander was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau at his new Bangkok residence, based on an arrest warrant. The warrant accuses him of a crime termed "entering false computer data likely to cause damage to the general public."

Alexander asserted his innocence but is currently undergoing legal proceedings in Phuket after being relocated to the Sakhu Police Station.

This isn't the only time something like this has happened. Back in 2020, an American visitor in Phuket got into trouble because of Thailand's strict laws about saying bad things about people or businesses. He got arrested for writing a negative review on TripAdvisor, saying a hotel was like "modern-day slavery." Although he got released after saying sorry, it's a lesson for anyone posting online reviews while visiting Thailand. Even if it seems harmless, it can get you in serious trouble because in Thailand, saying bad things about someone can land you in jail for up to two years.
