In an effort to revive the country's faltering economy, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced plans on Tuesday (May 14) to privatise all state-owned enterprises (SOEs), with the exception of strategic ones. This initiative is intended to ease the financial strain on the nation, which is facing major economic troubes.

During a review meeting led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, it was announced that the government plans to privatise all state-owned enterprises, expanding beyond the initial proposal to privatise only loss-making firms, as reported by the media. This decision coincides with Pakistan's negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a new long-term Extended Fund Facility (EFF).

In his address, Sharif said that the government's primary role should be to foster a favourable environment for business and investment rather than participating directly in commercial activities. He instructed all ministries to work with the Privatisation Commission to support the process.

Among the key enterprises set for privatisation is Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), a chronically loss-making entity that burdens the national budget. Sharif mandated that the privatisation of PIA be broadcast live to ensure transparency during the bidding and sale process.

PIA, which needs 11.5 billion Pakistani rupees monthly just for debt servicing, is one of the top public sector entities incurring substantial losses. The privatisation processes of other institutions will also be televised to maintain transparency.

To expedite the process, the government plans to appoint a pre-qualified panel of experts within the Privatisation Commission.

The move towards privatisation has been strongly advocated by the Sharif-led government as essential for alleviating the country's financial strain, The Dawn newspaper reported.
Indian students planning to pursue their studies in the United Kingdom this year have received a positive development. The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) has recommended maintaining the current form of the graduate route work visa, popularly known as the post-study work visa (PSW). This decision brings relief to thousands of students from India who aspire to study abroad, ensuring that they can continue to pursue their academic and career goals in the UK without any changes to the visa programme.

This visa allows foreign students to work in the UK for two years after completing their studies at a British university. These universities include prestigious institutions like those in the Russell Group such as Oxford, Cambridge, or LSE, as well as other universities like Sussex, SOAS, and the University of West London.

For those unfamiliar, Home Secretary James Cleverly assigned the committee the responsibility to assess the graduate route visa and present the report by May 14.

“Based on our analysis, the graduate route is broadly achieving its objectives and supporting the International Education Strategy. We recommend retaining the graduate route in its current form," the report read.

Around the world, weddings are happy times, but in India, they're extra special because they're all about traditions and culture. Sometimes, these traditions can be so different that they make the news!

In Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district, a family from Puttur made an unconventional move by placing an advertisement in a local newspaper. The advertisement sought a suitable 'spiritual' groom for their daughter, who passed away three decades ago.

The family is in search of a groom to uphold a tradition called 'Kule Madime' or 'Pretha Maduve'. This age-old custom, which entails the marriage of spirits of the dead, is practiced in the coastal regions of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
The advertisement reads: "Seeking groom who passed 30 years ago for a bride (sic) who passed 30 years ago. Please call the number to arrange a Pretha Maduve (marriage of spirits)."

The family, speaking to the Times of India, disclosed that they have received around 50 inquiries from interested individuals and may soon decide on a date to conduct the ceremony. They further stated that they have been searching for a groom for their daughter for the last five years, with the intention of upholding the 'Kule Madime' tradition.

“When placing the advertisement, we were worried that we would be trolled, but surprisingly, this has also led to a lot of awareness about the ritual.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday (May 15) declined to consider a plea from a 20-year-old unmarried woman seeking to terminate her pregnancy of over 27 weeks, arguing that the foetus also has a fundamental right to life.

A bench led by Justice B R Gavai issued the order while hearing the woman's appeal against the Delhi High Court's May 3 decision, which denied her request to terminate her pregnancy.

"We can't pass any order contrary to the statute," the bench, also comprising Justices S V N Bhatti and Sandeep Mehta, told her counsel.

"The child in womb also has a fundamental right to live. What do you say about that?," the bench asked.

The woman's lawyer argued that the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act focuses solely on the mother's rights.

"It is made for mother," he said.

The bench noted that the pregnancy had now exceeded seven months.

"What about the right of the child to survive? How do you address that?," the bench asked.

"The petitioner at this stage is under severe traumatic condition. She can't come outside also. She is taking classes for NEET exam. She is under highly traumatic condition. She can't face the society at this stage," he said.

The lawyer contended that her mental and physical well-being should be taken into account.

"Sorry," the bench said.

In its May 3 order, the high court observed that on April 25, it had instructed the All India Institute of Medical Sciences to form a medical board to evaluate the condition of the fetus and the petitioner.

"A perusal of the report shows that there is no congenital abnormality in the foetus nor is there any danger to the mother to carry on with the pregnancy which will mandate termination of the foetus," the high court had said.

"Since the foetus is viable and normal, and there is no danger to the petitioner to carry on with the pregnancy, foeticide would neither be ethical nor legally permissible," it had said.

5 Ways Cayenne Pepper Acts As A Natural Blood Thinner

Note: While cayenne pepper has properties that may help thin the blood, it should not replace medical advice or prescribed treatments. Always consult with a healthcare professional before making any changes to your health regimen.

Cayenne pepper enhances blood circulation by dilating blood vessels and reducing the thickness of the blood. This improved blood flow helps prevent clot formation and ensures that blood moves smoothly through the vessels.

Compounds in cayenne pepper, such as salicylates, have anticoagulant properties that inhibit platelet aggregation. By preventing platelets from clumping together, cayenne pepper reduces the risk of blood clots.

Capsaicin, the active component in cayenne pepper, has been shown to have antithrombotic effects. It helps dissolve fibrin, a protein involved in blood clot formation, thus acting as a natural blood thinner.

Cayenne pepper's anti-inflammatory properties help reduce inflammation in blood vessels. Inflammation can lead to the formation of clots, so by reducing it, cayenne pepper lowers the chances of clot development.

Cayenne pepper contains natural salicylates, which are compounds similar to aspirin. Salicylates inhibit the formation of thromboxane, a molecule that promotes platelet aggregation and blood clotting.
