He also added that the same applies to the GSLV rocket. However, he mentioned that the GLSV Mk3 rocket is an exception, as it is a relatively new vehicle.</p>

Otherwise, with the changing times when everybody (in the international launch market) is able to bring down cost of access to space, traditional technology (of ISRO) will not survive. <p>As a solution to this, Somanath said that India has to look at building a cost-effective launcher for the future. "We are working on a new-generation launch vehicle of India, which should be better in terms of cost, re-usability, manufacturing process and possible to produce faster. Currently the teams are working on it," he said without specifying progress and timelines. It is intended that such a next-gen rocket will be powered by highly-efficient liquid fuel combinations such as methane and liquid oxygen, kerosene and liquid oxygen.</p>

<p>A police probe that was initiated to trace a missing woman, Padmam,&nbsp;in the southern Indian state of Kerala, has turned&nbsp;extremely gory and murky. After having arrested three accused in the case, the police have learnt that two middle-aged women, Roslin and Padmam,&nbsp;were lured into a trap on the pretext of earning easy money and then killed brutally as part of 'human sacrifice' ritual. It is also suspected by the cops that one of the victim's mortal remains were cannibalised by the accused. &nbsp;</p>

<p>In&nbsp;the last week of September, police in Kerala's Kochi city received a complaint regarding a woman going missing. The complaint was filed by the kin of Padmam, a 52-year-old woman who sold lottery tickets in the city. Padmam had reportedly gone missing on September 26th.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Investigation revealed that Padmam had been in touch with Muhammad Shafi alias Rasheed, who was running an eatery. Shafi is said to have had a criminal record and was already facing serious charges of rape, attempted murder and theft among others. Based on CCTV evidence and call records, police came to know how Shafi got in touch with Padmam and lured her by offering her easy money and took&nbsp;her with him in a car.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Finally, police were led to a house in Kerala's Pathanamthitta district. This was the residence of Bhagwal Singh and his wife Laila. The duo was in financial trouble and Shafi had exploited their vulnerability. He is said to have won over their confidence and impressed upon them about 'human sacrifice' would end their troubles and bring prosperity. It was here that the trio carried out the gruesome murder (details of which are known, but are purposely being withheld in this report due to their excessive gory nature) of Padmam in late September.&nbsp;</p>

Onlookers, fishermen, and fire and rescue personnel who had reached the spot ensured that the passengers were taken to safety. <p>Indian cricketing star Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who popularized the 'helicopter shot' has launched a quadcopter consumer camera drone named 'Droni'. The made-in-India camera drone with advanced features is manufactured by Garuda Aerospace, of which MS Dhoni is the Brand Ambassador.</p>

<p>Garuda Aerospace has created a niche for itself by offering drone solutions for agricultural pesticide spraying, solar panel cleaning, industrial pipeline inspections, mapping, surveying, public announcements, and delivery services and has now ventured into the consumer drone market with the latest offering - 'Droni'. We are referring to India's maiden Mars Orbiter Mission(MoM) Mangalyaan, which is speculated to have recently reached the end of its life, after completing nine successful years post-launch from the Earth.</p>

<p>There have been recent reports regarding Mangalyaan having run out of fuel and its battery being drained. However, the Indian space agency i.e. ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) has not yet come out with any official communication in this regard.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Firstly, one must understand that satellites carry a finite amount of fuel and can exhaust them sooner or later depending on how many times they have to fire their engine(s). In the case of Mangalyaan, the spacecraft had to expend fuel to perform multiple Orbit Raising Manoeuvres (ORM) and also to insert itself into Martian orbit and thereafter get aligned into the final intended orbit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Additionally, the spacecraft had to also perform burns to correct its orbit and also to avoid any comet showers.</p>

<p>Despite all this, the spacecraft functioned for at least eight years in Martian orbit and performed scientific activities to study the Martian surface features, morphology, mineralogy, and Martian atmosphere.</p>

<p>According to ISRO, the highlights of this mission include having taken snapshots of the full disc of Mars at its farthest point and finer details from the closest point as well as first-time observation of the far side of Deimos, one of the moons of Mars.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Mars Colour Camera, one of the scientific payloads onboard the spacecraft, has produced 1100+ images so far and published a Mars Atlas, and has helped publish more than 35 research papers in peer-reviewed journals.</p>

<p>As recently as last week, speaking at an event commemorating '8 Years of Mangalyaan', a senior ISRO scientist shared specific details on the MoM. "Right now, we have no fuel left, to be able to change the geometry of the spacecraft to the sun" the scientist is heard saying in the video.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was also elaborated that the spacecraft had to operate during back-to-back, long-duration eclipses(periods when the shadow of Mars falls on it, thus hindering its ability to receive solar energy on its panels and charge its batteries).&nbsp;</p>

<p>"From April 1, 2022, we have had back-to-back long eclipses that spanned anywhere from 30 minutes to seven-and-a-half hours...the one we really survived was an eclipse that lasted six and a half hours," the scientist says.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, the spacecraft did a critical manoeuvre in 2017 and ended up burning 20 kilogrammes of its 33 kg fuel. After that manoeuvre, the spacecraft had only 13 kg of fuel left, of which 2.5 kg is required every year for basic manoeuvres to remain in orbit, the scientist stated. Finally, it was added that there is only around 2 or 2.4 kg of fuel left in the spacecraft and that quantity won't be sufficient for any future manoeuvres.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Going by that statement, it is evident that ISRO has been well aware of the inevitable. Perhaps, the agency is making final attempts to possibly establish contact with the spacecraft and ascertain its condition.</p>

<p>Under these conditions, it would be best for the Indian space agency itself to use proper channels and expeditiously communicate relevant information on MoM's health. This mission was accomplished in September 2014. Since mid-2015 (beyond the planned six months) the functioning of the spacecraft is only a bonus.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For the coming times, the focus must remain on making the best use of the scientific data captured by this mission and enhancing the knowledge base about Mars and applying those lessons in future Mars exploration missions.</p>

In the case of Mangalyaan, the spacecraft had to expend fuel to perform multiple Orbit Raising Manoeuvres (ORM) and also to insert itself into Martian orbit and thereafter get aligned into the final intended orbit. Additionally, the spacecraft had to also perform burns to correct its orbit and also to avoid any comet showers. The Mars Colour Camera, one of the scientific payloads onboard the spacecraft, has produced 1100+ images so far and published a Mars Atlas, and has helped publish more than 35 research papers in peer-reviewed journals. Notably, the spacecraft did a critical manoeuvre in 2017 and ended up burning 20 kilogrammes of its 33 kg fuel. After that manoeuvre, the spacecraft had only 13 kg of fuel left, of which 2.5 kg is required every year for basic manoeuvres to remain in orbit, the scientist stated. Finally, it was added that there is only around 2 or 2.4 kg of fuel left in the spacecraft and that quantity won't be sufficient for any future manoeuvres. Perhaps, the agency is making final attempts to possibly establish contact with the spacecraft and ascertain its condition. Under these conditions, it would be best for the Indian space agency itself to use proper channels and expeditiously communicate relevant information on MoM's health. This mission was accomplished in September 2014. Since mid-2015 (beyond the planned six months) the functioning of the spacecraft is only a bonus. Standing 44-nearly metres tall and weighing 640 tonnes, the GSLV Mark 3 is India's heaviest operational rocket. In a significant step-up for India in the global commercial rocket launch market, the GSLV Mark 3 will be making its maiden commercial flight by October-end, to orbit satellites from UK-based OneWeb.</p>

<p>The three-stage GSLV Mark3 rocket is powered by a solid-fueled first stage that is comprised of two strap-on boosters, followed by a liquid-fueled core stage and the final cryogenic stage. While the first two stages are responsible for lift-off and propelling the rocket out of the earth's atmosphere and into space, the final cryogenic stage provides it with high velocity and injects the satellites into the desired orbit.</p>

<p>The GSLV Mk3 is a special rocket for India, as it has a track record of delivering total success in the four launches it has had to date. So far, the rocket has had flights in 2014, 2017, 2018, and 2019. The high-profile Chandrayaan-2 lunar mission was also carried out on the Mk3 rocket in 2019. This is also a vehicle that ISRO has pinned high hopes on for the Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission, as this rocket is being modified to carry Indian astronauts to space.</p>

The mission update added that the 36 satellites from OneWeb have successfully undergone health checks and have been assembled with the dispenser unit. In the coming days, the integration of the cryogenic upper stage (the final stage) of the rocket and the integration of the payload fairing( protective shield that houses the satellites) with 36 satellites will take place.</p>

<p>NewSpace India Limited(NSIL), the commercial arm of ISRO, has signed two launch service contracts with Network Access Associated Limited(OneWeb), UK for launching OneWeb LEO Broadband Communication Satellites on board ISRO's heaviest launcher GSLV Mark 3. This is a historic milestone for India as it will mean the foray of GSLV Mark3 into the global commercial launch service market.</p>

<p>OneWeb is a global communications network powered by space, enabling connectivity for governments, businesses, and communities. It is implementing a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites. India's Bharti serves as a major investor and shareholder in OneWeb. Recently, WION reported about the OneWeb passenger satellites having arrived at the Chennai airport in India, from the US.</p>

This marks the first-ever deployment in the West African region by an Indian Navy warship. Situated in the eastern tropical Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Guinea region witnesses a significant amount of maritime crime and is an important shipping zone that has large volume of oil and gas transiting the area.</p>

<p>The&nbsp;deployment of INA Tarkash included port calls at Dakar in Senegal, Lome in Togo, Lagos in Nigeria and Port Gentil in Gabon. Apart from anti-piracy patrol and joint patrols with the regional navies, the deployment was utilised for capacity-building activities like training in damage control, firefighting, diving, medical aspects and casualty evacuation.&nbsp;</p>

Didier Patrick Queloz, the Swiss astronomer who won the Nobel Prize for discovering an extrasolar planet orbiting a sun-like star, would be in the city on October 20 as part of a lecture series organised by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Didier Queloz was born in Switzerland and studied at the University of Geneva, where he also received a doctorate in 1995. In the same year, Queloz and his supervisor Michel Mayor announced the first discovery of a planet outside our solar system, an exoplanet, orbiting a solar-type star in our home galaxy, the Milky Way.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Using custom-made instruments, they were able to see planet '51 Pegasi b', in the Pegasus constellation and this work earned them the Nobel Prize in 2019. Since then, over 4,000 exoplanets have since been found in the Milky Way. Eventually, such studies may find an answer to the eternal question of whether other life exists out there.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Since 2008, Queloz has been a professor at the University of Geneva and since 2012 at the University of Cambridge as well.</p>

<p>The address by Didier Queloz will be the inaugural lecture of the 'Subra Suresh Distinguished Lecture series' launched by IIT Madras. This lecture series was launched in honour of one of its most illustrious alumni of IIT Madras - Professor Subra Suresh, a distinguished alumnus awardee (1997) and currently president and a distinguished university professor at the prestigious Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.</p>

<p>This series will feature lectures by Nobel laureates and globally-renowned speakers from various walks of life. They will also deliver a science talk which will be open to all.&nbsp;</p>
