<p>If all goes as per plan, India's heaviest rocket LVM3 (Launch Vehicle Mark 3) will lift off at 14:30hrs (Indian Standard Time) on July 13, from the second launchpad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota, carrying India's third Lunar mission- Chandrayaan-3, WION has learnt. ISRO has, however, not confirmed the launch date officially.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At present, the spacecraft has been integrated with the payload adapter, a piece of hardware that connects the spacecraft to the upper stage of the rocket. The 640-tonne LVM3 rocket is in its final stage of integration and the cryogenic upper stage is soon to be stacked atop the vehicle, following which the spacecraft will be mounted, securely nestled in the payload fairing (rocket nose cone). The launch vehicle is expected to be moved from the vehicle assembly building to the second launchpad around July 7.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dr S Somanath, Chairman, ISRO told WION that the Chandrayaan-3 lander and rover would retain the names used in Chandrayaan-2. This implies that the Lunar lander will be known as 'Vikram', a tribute to Dr Vikram A Sarabhai, the brain behind the Indian space programme. The rover will be known as 'Pragyan', a Sanskrit word that means wisdom. We are looking at a Lunar landing around August-end, Dr Somanath added.&nbsp;</p>

The lander had made a hard landing on the lunar surface, which it did not survive, thus leaving the Lunar landing mission incomplete. However, the orbiter from Chandrayaan-2 continues to circle the moon and provide science data from its payloads. Therefore, Chandrayaan-3 will not be having an orbiter that is mounted with multiple science payloads. Instead, it will serve as a propulsion module that will help the integrated spacecraft reach the Lunar orbit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When determining the time of launch, the mission planners consider the weather forecast, a flight path that is free of space debris, the dynamic position of the destination (with respect to Earth), the time taken to travel to the destination, the manoeuvres involved, the rocket being used, the purpose of the mission, day or night time at the destination (during the time of landing), the movement and impact of other heavenly bodies etc.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Given that the launch window for Chandryaan-3 is just around a week, ISRO would work towards ensuring that the launch happens in the first few days of the window. It is pertinent to remember that Chandrayaan-2 was originally scheduled for launch on 15th July 2019, but ISRO called off that day's launch, owing to a technical snag that was observed while the rocket's cryogenic fuels were being filled. ISRO took a week to rectify the issue and finally carried out the launch on 22nd July 2019. Therefore, ISRO's goal would be to launch in the first two days of the window, so that they can have a handful of days at hand, in case of any unexpected technical issues.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Queried about how confident he was about the positive mission outcome of Chandrayaan-3, Dr Somanath had told WION that he is always confident, but space is an unforgiving domain, where only rigorous testing and clear decision-making yield favourable results. Smilingly, making a mention of luck being involved, he said that "even luck comes out of hard work and the perseverance to do the right thing at the right time".&nbsp;</p>

"The principles set out in these Accords are intended to apply to civil space activities conducted by the civil space agencies of each Signatory. Indian astronaut to fly to International Space Station in 2024. What does it mean for Gaganyaan?

Reports quoting White House sources claimed that Indian Space Agency ISRO and American Space Agency NASA have agreed to a joint mission to the International Space Station in 2024. However, there is no official word on such agreements.</p>

<p>So far, it is only that India and the US will be launching a jointly-built sophisticated earth-imaging satellite known as 'NISAR' NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar.<br />

<p>For more than 10 years, scientists from both nations have been working on the NISAR project and the satellite has even arrived in India's UR Rao Satellite Centre, in preparation for an early-2024 launch. However, the reports on the NASA-ISRO joint mission to the Space station, if true, open up interesting possibilities and bring to the fore a lot of questions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At the time of writing this report, neither the Indian government nor the American government has issued official statements regarding the NASA-ISRO mission to the Space station or India's signing of the Artemis Accords(a set of guidelines for space sustainable, safe space exploration in the 21st century). <p>A two-and-a-half-year-old child was battling Febrile Seizure Aspiration Pneumonia and Respiratory Failure and required immediate medical assistance. Owing to the lack of adequate medical facilities at Agatti island to revive the child from this condition, a medical evacuation was carried out.&nbsp;<br />

<p>Despite the harsh monsoon weather prevailing over India's western coast, an Indian Navy Dornier-228 aircraft from the Naval Air Station INS Garuda in Kochi, Kerala mobilised rapidly to Agatti and embarked the child and the parents and flew back to Kochi, where the baby was admitted to a hospital and is recovering. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Located 460 kilometres west of Kerala’s Kochi city, the Agatti atoll houses the lone airstrip available in the union territory of Lakshadweep. Operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the airstrip at Agatti was inaugurated in April 1988 for the operation of Dornier-228, and later the operations were extended to the ATR-72 aircraft in September 2010.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, owing to the short runway length and limited airfield services available, both civil and military aircraft operated&nbsp;only during daylight hours.</p>

<p>It was in October 2022 that the Indian Navy’s Dornier-228 made a maiden night landing at Agatti, thereby enhancing the Indian Navy’s round-the-clock maritime surveillance capabilities and the ability to support the Lakshadweep archipelago at short notice. &nbsp;<br />

It deals with the measurement and description of the physical features of the oceans. Data obtained from hydrographic surveys provide invaluable information that supports a wide range of maritime activities, including maritime navigation, construction, dredging, offshore oil exploration, defence, and strategic objectives etc.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On June 21 every year, the International Hydrographic Organisation (HO) observes World Hydrography Day to raise awareness about how hydrography plays a vital role in improved knowledge of the seas and oceans. The theme for 2023 is 'Hydrography - Underpinning the Digital Twin of the Ocean'.</p>

<p>In India, the Indian Naval Hydrographic Department (INHD) functions under the Indian Navy as the nodal agency for hydrographic surveys and nautical charting. The department has the mandate to undertake hydrographic surveys and publish navigation charts and has thus far published 650 Electronic and paper navigation charts covering Indian and International waters. These charts are in use by merchant mariners and Navies of the world.</p>

<p>In 2022, this department distributed over six lakh Electronic Navigation Charts to Seafarers operating in these waters, thereby raking in revenue of Rs.70cr or $9mn approx. Covering an area of 26 million sq kms of the Indian Ocean, the INHD shares information concerning the safety of navigation at sea through the web module of India WINS - Indian Warnings Information and Navigation Services. Launched in December 2022, this module provides near-real-time information.</p>

<h2><strong>Where is Hydrography training imparted in India?&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>India's National Institute of Hydrography (NIH) at Goa, is the centre for imparting training in Hydrography. The institute is accredited by International Hydrographic Organisation for National and International Trainees. So far, the NIH has imparted training to more than 800 candidates from 41nations.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In line with Indian Government's SAGAR(Security and Growth For All in the Region) initiative, seven indigenous-built survey ships of the Indian Navy have conducted various joint survey operations with friendly foreign nations covering an area of 89000sq km.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Commemorating Hydrography Day 2023, Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Indian Navy's Southern Naval Command (Training Command) in Kochi, Kerala and unveiled navigation charts compiled by Indian Hydrographic vessels. Charts of Mauritius, the inner harbour of Port Blair were unveiled during a ceremony onboard Indian Naval Ships Jamuna, Sarvekshak and Investigator, the indigenously built survey ships of the Indian Navy.</p>

<p>On this occasion, the Defence Minister also interacted with the foreign trainees from Nigeria, Ghana, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, who are undergoing training at the National Institute of Hydrography.</p>

<p>The event was hosted by Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of Naval Staff. Vice Admiral Adhir Arora, Chief Hydrographer to the Government of India, Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Controller of Personnel Services, Rear Admiral J Singh, Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command and other Flag Officers were also present on the occasion.</p>

World Hydrography Day: Celebrating the science of mapping the oceans

<p>From the streets of New Delhi to the streets of New York, Yoga has taken people by storm, thanks to the activities being carried out on the occasion of International Day of Yoga 2023.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a unique attempt, the Indian Army's amphibious warriors from the Pangode Military Station in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, performed Underwater Yoga. Adorning costumes that captured the three colours of&nbsp;the Indian national flag, the Army teams performed a variety of Yoga postures (asanas) underwater.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This captivating display of physical and mental agility was carried out under the guidance of an expert yoga instructor and freediver Jyothi Singh from Bond Water Sports Pvt Ltd. This unique attempt brought together the timeless practice of Yoga and the invigorating environment of water.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The event aimed to promote holistic well-being, strengthen the mind-body connection, and demonstrate the military's commitment to embracing diverse approaches to physical fitness.</p>

<p>Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), the Indian government-run shipbuilder, has bagged an international order to design and construct six new-generation 3800 DWT cargo vessels for a Norwegian firm Wilson Shipowning AS.</p>

<p>DWT refers to Deadweight Tonnage which is an indication of how much cargo a vessel can carry.</p>

<p>The USD 72 million or Rs 580 crore contract has been signed with an option for additional eight&nbsp;vessels. The first vessel is expected to be delivered by December 2024 and the remaining deliveries are to be completed by March 2026.</p>

<p>UCSL is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Madhu S Nair, Chairman &amp; Managing Director of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), who also serves as Chairman of UCSL said, “This partnership aligns with our core values of sustainability and innovation, and we are excited to contribute to the development of more eco-friendly transportation solutions. Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), the Indian government-run shipbuilder, has bagged an international order to design and construct six new-generation 3800 DWT cargo vessels for a Norwegian firm Wilson Shipowning AS. DWT refers to Deadweight Tonnage which is an indication of how much cargo a vessel can carry. The USD 72 million or Rs 580 crore contract has been signed with an option for additional eight vessels. The first vessel is expected to be delivered by December 2024 and the remaining deliveries are to be completed by March 2026. UCSL is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited. Indian govt-run shipyard to build 'future-proof dry cargo vessel' for Norway

<p>With over 100 delegates from G20 nations, invitee countries and international organisations in attendance, the third Sustainable Finance Working Group (SFWG) meeting under India’s G20 Presidency commenced on Monday at Mamallapuram near India’s southern Chennai city.</p>

<p>This comes after two meetings of this group that were already held in northeastern Assam state’s Guwahati city and western Rajasthan state’s Udaipur city. During the ongoing meeting, the focus will be towards finalising the recommendations for key deliverables set out in the SFWG 2023 work plan.</p>

<p>The SFWG has been working on three priority areas to advance the actions as envisaged in the G20 Sustainable Finance Roadmap: Mechanisms for mobilisation of timely and adequate resources for climate finance; enabling finance for the Sustainable Development Goals; capacity building of the ecosystem for financing toward sustainable development.</p>

<p>Under the first priority, SFWG will develop a list of options to support climate investments and transition activities in line with country circumstances. The options will include ways to expand risk-sharing facilities, as well as policies and financial instruments to support private capital for investment in green and low-carbon technologies.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It is the first time that the SFWG has undertaken work on financing Sustainable Development Goals, in addition to climate. Under this priority, the group has focused on financial instruments for social impact investment and nature-related data and reporting.</p>

<p>Capacity building plays a vital role in supporting the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement. The demand for capacity building for sustainable finance is rising. However, there are substantial knowledge gaps, limited technical assistance, a lack of consistent funds and a lack of coordination and collaboration among capacity-building programme providers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The discussions and negotiations held in the ongoing meeting on the draft voluntary recommendations would feed into the deliberations to be held in the 3rd G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) Meeting in July 2023.</p>

<p>He was delivering a special address at the Women20 Summit, an official engagement group of the G20 summit. The W20 came into being owing to years of advocacy by women's rights organisations and their demands for a forum to voice women's issues, opinions, and empowerment. The ongoing edition of the W20 is being held at the UNESCO World Heritage Town Mamallapuram, near Chennai.</p>

<p>Pointing out the means to achieve equality between women and men, he said that huge empowering opportunities would be required in the fields of education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. He said that this would create a world where women can thrive and contribute to their fullest.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Of the millions houses built by the Indian Government, more than 80 per cent are built in the name of women and some are jointly owned by their spouses, 100mn LPG connections were provided, thus making clean cooking fuel accessible to the underprivileged, 100mn toilets have been constructed, 43 per cent of those pursuing Science Technology Engineering Arts &amp;Math (STEAM) Courses are women in India," he said, highlighting some of the G20 host nation's contributions in empowering women.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There is a need to do a pole-vaulting, there is a need for a change of mind and men must realise that women must lead the world, he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Addressing the gathering of women delegates and officials, Smriti Irani, India's Union Minister for Women and Child Development quoted a 2018 UN report and said that 80 per cent of those displaced due to climate change were women. Climate change exposes women and children to health risks and leads to disease or limited access to services.</p>

Highlighting the busy and activity-filled months that lay ahead for him, he pointed out the impending State visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US, next week, and also the India visit of US President Joe Biden in September. He added that PM Modi and President Biden have already met twice this year and will meet twice or thrice in the coming months.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Referring to India being the host nation of the G20 2023, the ambassador said that India is taking its place, acting as a bridge between the East-West and the North-South. "From the Seabed to the stars, India and America are working together," he said, outlining the bilateral efforts and cooperation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Ambassador presided over the 247th-anniversary celebration of U.S. Independence, hosted by the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai. &nbsp;American Independence Day, also referred to as the Fourth of July in the United States, commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.  The event highlighted US-India areas of cooperation, including in the Indo-Pacific, gender equity, innovation, space, and climate change, while also recognizing robust US-India people-to-people ties and institutional partnerships.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking at the event, he said, “The deep ties between the US&nbsp;and India are gaining strength in many key areas and South India has a key role in the partnership.
