WION: How do you see the ties between the two countries? 
 
Walter J Lindner: Chancellor will come again to India, at the end of the year. we have not yet fixed the date, but it will be October and November. We have a lot of common interest. One is multilateralism, other is the maintenance of peace, other is UN system, fight against terrorism, the future of technology, future of work like what we will do in 20 years with things going automatic, artificial intelligence. There are so many things both of us are in the same wavelength.

WION: Germany has backed India on the issue of terror. How do both countries plan to tackle the issue? 
 
Walter J Lindner: We will work together very closely in the UN and we will keep informed bilaterally. I will see colleagues in the foreign ministry. So we will see, what's on the agenda and how can we have a common position. As I said, we are both of the conviction that terrorism is something which has to be eradicated from the planet. Maybe it is not possible, we have to do everything we can.

WION: How do you see Indian elections and expectations from the new government? 
 
Walter J Lindner: First of all what we have seen is the biggest elections on this planet in humankind. Never before so many people have voted, and the way it was organised, all these voting machines and all these different voting dates. Its a world record in organising elections. So congratulations. We are confident whoever wins will have strong ties with Germany and will continue the close cooperation.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will attend a two-day meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), beginning on Tuesday, in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek, during which several pressing issues including a thread of terrorism are expected to be discussed.

This will be her last visit as the External Affairs Minister to any country under the present government. She will leave for Bishkek on&nbsp;Tuesday at 10 am.

During the meet, India will be strongly raising the issue of terror and the Afghan peace process.&nbsp;

The meeting comes just weeks before the SCO summit that will take place in Bishkek from June 13-14 and will see the participation of the Indian and Pakistani prime ministers.

The External Affairs Ministry said the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) will exchange views on topical issues of international and regional importance, besides reviewing the preparation for the SCO Summit in Bishkek from June 13-14.

External Affairs Minister’s program in Bishkek will include the "meeting of Council of SCO Foreign Ministers" and a joint call of SCO Foreign Ministers on Kyrgyz President Sooranbay Jeenbekov.

This is the second SCO FMs meet India is participating as a full member of SCO, the last being in April of 2018 in Beijing.

India became a full member of the China-dominated grouping in 2017 and New Delhi's entry has increased the bloc's heft in regional geopolitics, besides giving it a pan-Asian hue.

No India-Pakistan meet

Pakistan will be represented by Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.&nbsp;

Asked if Pakistani and Indian ministers will meet during the SCO FMs summit, the Pakistani foreign office spokesperson Mohammad Faisal said, "The two foreign ministers would be present in the meeting and in all likelihood would interact amongst themselves and with other leaders. No formal meeting is, however, envisaged."

India got full membership of the grouping along with Pakistan in 2017 during the Astana summit of SCO with the process beginning during 2015 SCO summit in Russia.

An Amazon spokesperson, responding to WION on the products with images of Hindu God said, "All sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subject to action including potential removal of their account."&nbsp;

The issue of four offending items on Amazon was brought to the notice of the Embassy through social media.&nbsp;

The Indian Embassy in Washington immediately contacted Amazon and requested their removal due to the offensive nature of their depiction. The products were promptly removed.

Not for the first time, Amazon has been in hit waters. In 2017 Amazon's Canadian website had a doormat with Indian tricolour. The company later apologised when India's external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj asked the company to not only apologise or no visas will be granted to the company's officials.&nbsp;

After Indian government's message, Amazon removes products hurting religious sentiments

India offered full support to Sri Lanka in dealing with the "common threat" of "Jihadi terrorism" in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday terror attack that killed over 250 people on April 21.&nbsp;

The development comes in the backdrop of Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka's Taranjit Singh Sandhu's visit to Sri Dalada Maligawa temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The site is believed to house the relic of Lord Buddha's tooth.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In a release, the Indian Mission in Sri Lanka said, "High Commissioner... discussed the prevailing security situation with the most venerable Mahanayake Theros and offered India’s full support to Sri Lanka in dealing with the common threat of Jihadi terrorism."&nbsp;

The release further added, "Both the Mahanayake Theros deeply appreciated India’s unconditional and strong support for Sri Lanka including in the security sphere."&nbsp;

This is for the first time that India has publically stated this even as Sri Lanka continues its crackdown on Islamic extremist groups in the aftermath of the Easter Day attacks.

During the visit, Sandhu met Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Mahanayake Thero of Malwatte Chapter (Malwathu Maha Viharaya) and Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Mahanayake Thero of Asgiriya Chapter (Asgiri Maha Viharaya). A Mahanayaka Thero is a title to top ranking Buddhist monks in Theravada Buddhist countries.&nbsp;

Malwathu Maha Viharaya and Asgiri Maha Viharaya are two Buddhist monasteries located in Kandy and are the headquarters of the Malwatta chapter and Asgiriya chapter of Siyam Nikaya, the two Buddhist monasteries that hold the custodianship of the sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha kept in Sri Dalada Maligawa.

Back in India, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had raided several places in Kerala and arrested a Riyas Aboobacker from Palakkad who was inspired by Sri Lanka terror attack mastermind Zahran Hashim. Riyas had planned to carry out suicide attacks in Kerala.&nbsp;

Sri Lanka based terror outfit - National Thowheeth Jama'ath (NTJ) planned and perpetrated the Easter Day attacks. Islamic State later claimed responsibility for the attack.&nbsp;

Mohammad Omar Daudzai, Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani's special envoy for peace and chief executive of Afghanistan's high peace council was in Delhi on Friday and met with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.&nbsp;

In an exclusive conversation with WION's Principal Diplomatic Correspondent Sidhant Sibal, Daudzai lauded India's role in building a strong state in Afghanistan and said New Delhi has a legitimate interest in the Afghan peace process. On Pakistan, he said that Islamabad needs to be encouraged to shun the use of terror as a policy.

WION: What transpired in your meet with EAM and NSA?

Mohammad Omar Daudzai: Afghanistan and India are very close partners. We have signed the strategic partnership document. India, so far, has fulfilled its commitment as a strategic partner very well. We discussed some issues related to that and also peace, reconciliation and regional coordination that is necessary for reconciliation.

WION: How do you see India's role in the Afghan peace process?

Mohammad Omar Daudzai: India is a very important player now, globally and regionally. India has invested generously in Afghanistan's peace process. Democracy in Afghanistan is important for India. India has to be involved and should be aware of what is going on. We are committed to making sure that India is with us in every step we take.&nbsp;

WION: What are your expectation from New Delhi?

Mohammad Omar Daudzai: Overall, India has helped us build a strong state, but we need further help to strengthen the state. For the peace process to prevail, we need a strong state. India is playing a key role together with our western partners. We want India to continue with it.

WION: What is the current status of the Afghan peace process?

Mohammad Omar Daudzai: The Americans and the Taliban are talking about a possible US withdrawal plan. Taliban is clarifying its relationship with terrorists and terror groups and have given a commitment that they will not keep ties with them. The next stage will be a dialogue primarily between the Afghan state and the Taliban. Ultimately, it should all reach a sustainable ceasefire.&nbsp;

WION: Your thoughts on the role played by Iran and China?

Mohammad Omar Daudzai: Afghanistan has very important geography. It is located at the crossroads, whether you go from the Middle East to India or India to central Asia, you cross Afghanistan. Instability in Afghanistan is preventing a lot of regional mega projects to be implemented. So, it is important for all those countries to be involved in the arrangement. Glad to see they are coming with the regional initiative that may, hopefully, lead to peace in Afghanistan.

WION: How do you see Pakistan's role in Afghanistan and its support to terror?

Mohammad Omar Daudzai: Well, we want to see three countries to live together in peace. Like you have breakfast in Kabul, lunch in Islamabad and dinner in Delhi. That is possible if we have the link between these three countries. Terrorism and war are the main hindrances. We should all come together, get rid of this menace and live in peace together. We will have to encourage Pakistan to change on the issue of terror.&nbsp;

India has helped build strong state in Afghanistan, Pak must shun terror: Afghan President's special envoy to WION

India on Thursday handed over two&nbsp;Mi 24 attack helicopters to Afghan defence <a href="https://www.wionews.com/afghanistan/ashraf-ghanis-special-envoy-reaches-delhi-as-india-increases-engagement-with-other-forces-on-afghan-peace-process-219148">minister Asadullah Khalid</a> at the Kabul Air Force base.

Indian envoy to Afghanistan Vinay Kumar handed over the helicopters. The helicopters are replacement of the four&nbsp;attack helicopters gifted previously by India to Afghanistan in 2015.

A release by the Indian mission in Afghanistan said, "helicopters shall boost the capability of the Afghan Air Force" and enhance the "effectiveness of the Afghan national fefence and security force in combating the scrouge of terrorism"&nbsp;

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Afghanistan on 25th December 2016, New Delhi had gifted four Mi 25 attack helicopters to the Afghan Air Force. It was during this visit PM Modi had&nbsp;inaugurated the Afghan Parliament, which was&nbsp;built by India.

Former Indian envoy to Afghanistan, Amar Sinha speaking to WION on the development said, "India's supply of two more Mi 24 helicopters is in line with our policies and commitments to Afghanistan."

Explaining further Sinha said, "It is also a symbol of trilateral cooperation with Belarus as the third country which made these available for use by ANSF"

Amar Sinha was the Indian ambassador to Afghanistan in 2016 when the four Mi 25 attack helicopters were gifted to the landlocked South Asian country.

India is currently providing assistance to Afghan National Defence and Security forces (ANSF) by training the personnel and in the past has&nbsp;trained Afghan pilots as well.

India gifts two Mi 24 attack helicopters to Afghan Air Force

Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani's Special Representative for Regional Affairs for Consensus on Peace, Mohammad Umer Daudzai, has arrived in New Delhi and will hold a meeting with External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj.

Daudzai is also the CEO of the High Peace Council, established to negotiate peace with the Taliban.

The former interior minister was appointed the special envoy in December of 2018 and was tasked with creating a regional consensus on the Afghan peace process.

Ahead of the visit Sayed Ihsan Taheri, Director Media to the high peace council said, "Everyone knows that India is one of the fewer states truly supporting Afghan-led Peace Process."

His presence in Delhi is a major development in the backdrop of increased engagement by India with regional countries and world powers on the Afghan peace process. New Delhi backs an "Afghan-owned, Afghan-led and Afghan-controlled" peace process.

A number of global tech giants also took part in the adoption of the initiative in Paris--these include Microsoft, Google, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

The online service providers in the initiative to combat online extremist content committed to, "closing accounts where appropriate" and "implement immediate, effective measures to mitigate the specific risk that terrorist and violent extremist content is disseminated through live streaming."

Indian companies are increasingly eyeing Mongolia's oil and gas sector with first every exhibition on the energy sector with the participation of several companies and an agreement on an India built a Mongolian oil refinery.&nbsp;

Engineers India Ltd (EIL) and Mongolia's Mongol Refinery have signed an agreement on the Project Management Consultancy (PMC) for setting up of the first oil refinery in the eastern province of DornoGobi. The agreement was signed in the presence of Mongolian Minister of Mining Dolgorsürengiin Sumyaabazar and the Ambassador of India to Mongolia MP Singh.

India will help build Mongolia's second oil refinery and has extended a $1 billion Line of Credit to the country for it. The refinery will be built in the city of Sainshand in Dornogobi province and will have a capacity of 1.5 MMTPA which will be implemented with Exim Bank funding.

During the visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 2015 visit to the country, which was the first ever visit of an Indian PM to the landlocked country, $1 billion credit line was announced which is being used to build the first ever oil refinery for the country. Last year Mongolian PM Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh and Home Minister Rajnath Singh took part in the groundbreaking ceremony for that Oil Refinery. It is expected to be completed by mid-2023.&nbsp;

In a bid to increase engagement between oil and gas companies to both countries, EIL along with Mongol Refinery and Ministry of Mining of Mongolia earlier this week organised an exhibition in Mongolia and saw the participation of Mongolian Foreign Minister Oyun-Erdene, along with Mongolian Minister of Mining Dolgorsürengiin Sumyaabazar and head of Cabinet Secretariat.

G Ganbold, Mongolia's ambassador to India told WION, " Around 35 Indian companies participated in the exhibition. Mongolia government and business community showed interest in working with Indian companies. There will be second expo in August in which Indian pharma companies will participate."

Mongolia currently exports crude oil to China and imports petroleum products from Russia. India led refineries will help Ulaanbaatar reduce its dependency on Moscow and Beijing. According to the Petroleum Authority of Mongolia, the country has reserves of 2.3 billion barrels of oil.

Number of batches for Lipulekh route is 18 with yatris per batch at 58 while for Nathu La, number of batches stands at 10 with 48 yatris per batch. Two liaison officer will assist each batch of yatris.&nbsp;

Nathu La route has been been opened a few years ago and is fully motorable and requires minimum of walking.&nbsp;

Around 624 Senior citizens applied for the yatra and will be preferred via Nathu La route. Lipulekh route is mountainous and the terrain is challenging.

Mansarovar yatra to help build ties with China: India

Iran foreign minister Zarif briefed his country's position on the 2015 Iran Nuclear deal or Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and steps taken by Tehran as part of the deal.&nbsp;

Recalling the steps announced by Iranian President Rouhani on May 8 including decisions linked to the export of enriched material and heavy water, the visiting foreign minister mentioned that 60 days timeline given to EU-3 (France, Germany and UK) and other parties to JCPOA for restoring the oil and banking channels which has been blocked due to American sanctions.

New Delhi, reiterated its position on the deal and said it would like all parties to the agreement to continue to fulfil their commitments. Remember the US had withdrawn from the 2015 deal. Tehran is now banking on the EU to save the deal now.
