<p>Oriel College, Oxford,&nbsp; had said last month it wanted to remove the&nbsp;statue of Rhodes after a campaign by those who argued the statue glorifies racism and is an insult to black students.</p>

<p>Johnson told an English newspaper he did not want to see the statue pulled down.</p>

<p>It would, he said, be like "trying to bowdlerise or edit our history ... like some politician sneakily trying to change his Wikipedia entry," the Standard reported.</p>

<p>"I’m pro-heritage, I’m pro-history, and I’m in favour of people understanding our past with all its imperfections," he said.</p>

<p>Johnson urged people not to be reckless, warning that more local lockdowns could follow citing example of Leicester.</p>

<p>"The public need to stay alert and realise that the threat is not over. Follow the guidance and behave responsibly so that this virus cannot re-emerge in communities across the country," he said.</p>

<p>The statement came before the opening of pubs, restaurants and other businesses in England this weekend.</p>

<p>The meeting took place on Wednesday as the world coronavirus toll surpassed a grim-milestone of 500,000 deaths.</p>

<p>According to an official at the WHO, North Korea has reopened schools but kept a ban on public gatherings and made it mandatory to wear masks.</p>

<p>While no coronavirus cases have been reported in the reclusive country, it's health ministry has said that hundreds of people, mostly cargo handlers at seaports are being quarantined to ensure safety.</p>

<p>The construction of the Pyongyang General hospital was also discussed at Thursday's politburo meeting.</p>

<p>"Kim Jong-un made sure powerful national measures were taken for urgently solving the problems arising to brilliantly complete the hospital which would provide the people with the most advanced medical service, to be of the world standard," KCNA said.</p>

<p>The backlash comes as China faces renewed protests in Hong Kong after it implemented the national security law leading to large scale protests in the city.</p>

<p>Hong Kong activist Nathan Law fled the city to an undisclosed country as several protesters were arrested. UK and Australia had earlier moved to offer Hong Kongers to stay in their country as China implemented the security law.</p>

<p>UK foreign secretary Dominic Raab said Britain had a duty to care of residents of a colony it handed back to China in 1997 as China threatned countermeasures.</p>

<p>In the United States, Senators moved a proposal giving Hong Kong protesters fast-track to refugee status, a move which was criticised by China.</p>

<p>Amid the protests, China appointed Zheng Yanxiong, 56, to head the controversial national security agency. Yanxiong's office will monitor intelligence related to national security and in some cases he could hand Hong Kong citizens to mainland authorities.</p>

<p>China has also been involved in border clashes at Galwan Valley along the Line of Control(LAC) with Indian soldiers for several weeks.</p>

<p>Twenty Indian soldiers were killed on June 15-16 at Galwan during a clash with Chinese troops, although China hasn't revealed its casualty figures, however,&nbsp;state-run Global Times had said PLA had suffered casualties during the clash.<br />

<p>SEC had sued Musk two years ago over a tweet after he said Tesla had secured funding and the company would go private as stocks surged. SEC and Tesla reached a settlement with Musk put on restriction.</p>

<p>The US regulator once again took the Tesla chief to court in 2019 after he failed to clear a tweet about Tesla's production as both sides again reached a settlement.</p>

<p>Musk's latest jibe on the SEC comes as Tesla became the world's richest car company as Detroit's General Motors and Fiat Chrysler reported flat sales.</p>

<p>General Motors sales plunged 34 per cent in the second quarter from the year-ago as coronavirus pandemic hit the United States leading to lockdowns in several states. Ford and FCA, halted manufacturing for nearly two months during the virus outbreak.</p>

<p>Other carmakers Nissan and Honda also saw record plunge in sales even as investor confidence in Musk's plan for Tesla's electic cars captured the imagination of Wall Street.</p>

<p>In an interview with regional newspapers published late Thursday, Macron said France must prepare for a "very difficult" economic crisis, "so we have to chart a new course."</p>

<p>"I see this based on an economic, social, environmental and cultural reconstruction," he said. "Behind this, there will be a new team."</p>

<p>An Elysee Palace official told AFP that a new prime minister would be named "in the coming hours," and possibly the new cabinet cast as well.</p>

<p>Sources later confirmed that Philippe would not be re-nominated for the post he has held for the past three years, pushing through a series of controversial overhauls that sparked massive strikes as well as the fierce "yellow vest" anti-government revolt.</p>

<p>Speculation that Philippe was on the way out mounted this week after Macron's centrist party was routed in municipal elections last Sunday and Greens took control of several major cities.</p>

<p>Philippe, a right-wing politician who never joined Macron's Republic on the Move party, easily won his bid to become mayor of Le Havre.</p>

<p>But while Philippe's approval ratings have surged over his handling of the coronavirus crisis, Macron was widely expected to try to burnish his social justice credentials with a more centrist or leftwing premier.</p>

<p>"A new phase is opening, with new talents and new methods for governing," the Elysee official said Friday.</p>

<p>At a meeting Thursday, Macron and Philippe "agreed on the need for a new government to embody a new phase for this term," the source said.</p>

<p>Press reports have suggested that possible replacements could include defence minister Florence Parly or foreign minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, both Socialists before joining Macron's team.</p>

<p>Other names being floated are those of Valerie Pecresse, president of the Ile-de-France region encompassing Paris, or Jean Castex, who is piloting the government's cautious lifting of its coronavirus restrictions.</p>

<p>But analysts say Macron has a thin bench of potential replacements, not least because his young party has failed to produce any standouts from its parliamentary ranks -- meaning he could tap someone relatively unknown to the public.</p>

<p>Among other officials who could be replaced is interior minister Christophe Castaner, who has been assailed by critics over the failure to contain the rioting and looting that marred the "yellow vest" protests of 2018-2019.</p>

<p>More recently Castaner has drawn the ire of police who say he has failed to support them against renewed claims of violence and racism in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement.</p>

<p>A new strain of coronavirus, which is a mutation of the original, is three to six times more infectious in comparison but doesn't make people sicker, according to a recent study.</p>

<p>Researchers from Duke University in North Carolina and Las Alamos National laboratory in New Mexico partnered to conduct&nbsp;the study.</p>

<p>Results of lab-based research in the journal suggests that the new form of the virus had spread from Europe to US.</p>

<p>According to Erica Ollmann Saphire of the La Jolla Institute for Immunology and the Coronavirus Immunotherapy Consortium, a part of the team that did the study, said "It&nbsp;is now the dominant form infecting people."</p>

<p>"We do know that the new virus is fitter. It doesn't look at first glance as if it is worse," Saphire said.</p>

<p>Experiments of genetic sequencing for the study were conducted on people, animals and lab dishes.</p>

<p>According to the study, even though the sequence diversity is very low, the natural selection can act upon certain rare favorable mutations.</p>

<p>The earlier version of the virus called D614 identified in Wuhan was completely replaced by the new strain of mutation called G614 which first emerged in Europe in February.</p>
