"Fatality rate has seen a progressive decline and it is continuing," the health ministry said. The ministry added that last week&nbsp;a few states in India were showing a rise in coronavirus cases.

Twenty-eight states and&nbsp;union territories have performed over 140 tests per day per million population with Goa, Delhi, Tripura and Tamil Nadu having increased their testing capacity, it said.

The health ministry informed that over 2 crore coronavirus tests have been conducted so far including more than 6.6 lakh tests in the last 24 hours.&nbsp;

No Chinese journalists in US allowed visa renewal since May: Chinese foreign ministry

The Indian embassy in Israel has launched a unique initiative to reach out to the Indian communities in the country to provide essential consular services amid the restrictions on movement and gatherings due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Indian embassy staff have been travelling to various parts of the country once a week so that Indians and Israelis of Indian-origin looking for consular support do not face problems with urgently required documents.

The service seems to have created an excitement in the Indian community with many of them appreciating the "personal touch" which they feel is creating a "strong bond".

"The idea of regular consular camps grew out of our internal exercise to set quarterly goals for ourselves in the wake of COVID-19. Given the uncertainties and restrictions flowing from COVID-19, we thought it'll be better to take the consular services closer to those who need them in these trying times, and all over Israel,' India's ambassador to Israel, Sanjeev Singla, said.

The staff of the Indian mission have so far been to Jerusalem and Beersheba during the past two weeks and have made the announcement that they will be in Haifa in the north and even in Israel's southernmost Red Sea coastal city of Eilat to meet and extend essential consular services to the Indian community.

The services are being extended while following the government guidelines in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

"I couldn't believe it when I got a call saying that I could come and collect my passport at a place really close to my student dormitory. I have been worried about it as I have to do all the formalities related to my stay here which was not possible without the passport in hand", Shashank Shekhar, a researcher at Beersheba's Ben-Gurion University, told PTI. 
"We feel cared for," said 80-year-old Eliyahu Yosef, an Israeli of Indian-origin.

Pamela, who is an OCI and immigrated to Israel some 50 years ago, narrates something similar.

She needed help with her husband's application and had been waiting to travel to Tel Aviv for months.

The new initiative has brought much-needed relief to the Indian students, caregivers and also Israelis of Indian-origin.

"I can't explain to you the impact this gesture has had on the Indians in Israel. It is being talked about. The personal touch has resulted in further strengthening the strong bond we have with India", Naor Gudker, who has served as the CEO of Israel Cricket Association in the past, emphasised.

Indians in Eilat and Haifa welcomed the initiative with several of them waiting to meet embassy officials with their queries.

"The students have been particularly concerned about flights and I went to understand how urgent travel could be managed amid these restrictions," Nishant, a post-doctoral fellow at the Hebrew University, said.

The Indian mission's staff also went around the country providing masks and gloves to people in the community towards the beginning of the spread of the pandemic, assuring the community of all possible help.

"The pandemic will not stop us! Our new normal is to reach out &amp; provide consular services as much as possible. Officials from the embassy of India provided consular services at Beersheba. We will soon be visiting Eilat ( August 7) and Haifa (August 14)" a tweet from the official handle of the embassy said.

The US president has given the Chinese-owned video app six weeks to sell its US operations to an American company while asserting that "it's got to be an American company... it's got to be owned here" even as TikTok's parent company ByteDance said it was evaluating the possibility of establishing TikTok's headquarters outside of the US.

US tech giant Microsoft is an advanced discussion to buy the popular video app from ByteDance subject to security review.

"I set a date of around September 15, at which point it's going to be out of business in the United States," the US president had said as he looked to pressure the Chinese app company.

The app is under scrutiny by the US over national security issues with officials claiming that it collects personal data and would share it with Chinese officials if they demand it.

"The US is using an abused concept of national security and, without providing any evidence, is making presumptions of guilt and issuing threats to relevant companies," China's foreign ministry had said on Monday.

The report urged doctors not to prescribe the drug to those who have been suffering from chronic pain.

The report said that there is "no evidence" that the drug made any difference to the patient's health while adding it could cause an addiction to the drug.&nbsp;

The NICE report stated that at least one third to half of the UK population suffered from chronic pain which led to depression. However, it asked doctors not to give patients aspirin or ibuprofen.

The report said that although some antidepressants can be considered but other drugs such as corticosteroid, &nbsp;antipsychotics, gabapentinoids, ketamine should be administered to patients suffering from chronic pain.

NICE further claimed that it was "inappropriate" for doctors to give normal painkillers to patients. The report claimed that the painkillers showed no sighs it made any difference to the patient's "quality of life, pain or psychological distress".

The committee asserted that "not commenting on these medicines could result in their continued use in practice, which would be inappropriate given the lack of evidence and possible harms, so they recommended against the use of these treatments."

The WHO team will coordinate with Chinese scientists to ascertain how the disease jumped from animals to humans. The extensive investigation will also be overseen by the Chinese government.

Tedros had warned on Monday that there may never be a "silver bullet" to fight the virus and there might never be as he and cautioned countries to enforce health measures like wearing masks, ensure social distancing, and to undertake virus testing and tracing on a large scale.

In April, the index had slipped into contraction mode, after remaining in the growth territory for 32 consecutive months. In PMI parlance, a print above 50 means expansion, while a score below that denotes contraction.

"Latest PMI data from Indian manufacturers shed more light on the state of economic conditions in one of the countries worst affected by the COVID-19 pandemic," said Eliot Kerr, Economist at IHS Markit.

The survey results showed a re-acceleration of declines in the key indices of output and new orders, undermining the trend towards stabilisation seen over the past two months, Kerr said.

He further noted that "anecdotal evidence indicated that firms were struggling to obtain work, with some of their clients remaining in lockdown, suggesting that we won't see a pick-up in activity until infection rates are quelled and restrictions can be further removed".

As per the survey, output contracted at a slightly faster pace than in June as demand conditions remained subdued with some businesses still closed amid lockdown extensions.

Moreover, export orders also witnessed a decline. Survey participants commented that international clients were hesitant to place orders while the duration of the pandemic remained uncertain.

Deteriorating demand conditions led Indian manufacturers to continue cutting staff numbers during July.

On the cost front, manufacturers reported another decrease in input prices during July, the survey said adding that subdued demand for most goods more than offset the inflationary effects of shortages in some raw materials, the survey said.

However, despite the ongoing negative impact of COVID-19, sentiment towards future activity improved for the second month running, the survey said.

Vopec Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd today announced it has completed one of India's first COVID-19 clinical trials on a herbal, Siddha formulation, Amrta Karuna. The clinical trial has been registered with the Indian Council for Medical Research(ICMR).&nbsp;

Vopec began human clinical trials of Amrta Karuna in June in conjunction with Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) on COVID-19 patients.&nbsp;

Notable results for the Amrta Karuna treatment group compared to the control showed &nbsp;significant reduction in hospital quarantine: 5.8 vs 8.1 days which was a 28 per cent decrease.

RT-PCR showed negative on day 7 at 71.42 per cent vs 42.85 per cent, sgnificantly reduced CRP inflammatory levels and significantly reduced LDH tissue damage levels and TLC (immune system strength) within normal range on day 14.

Dr CR Jayanthi, Principal Investigator and Dean of BMCRI, said, "This clearly indicates Amrta Karuna syrup proved to favourably influence the immune system in quarantined COVID-19 subjects as compared to the control subjects."&nbsp;

Based on the silico models, Dr Dinesh, Research head at Vopec said the phytoconstituents in Amrta Karuna act on ACE2-Spike interaction, inhibiting the entry of the virus into host cell, and on NSP15 protein to prevent its replication.&nbsp;

Pre-clinical in vitro studies demonstrated the safety and efficacy of Amrta Karuna and confirmed its potential as an immunomodulatory agent against Dengue, H1N1 and H5N1 viruses.&nbsp;

Dr. Baskaran Pillai, chairman of Vopec said: "Herbal formulations have scalability and other issues. So Vopec currently has a small molecule under research to circumvent these problems. Iran is the hardest hit with the virus in the Middle East as health ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said that 2,685 more people had tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

According to a BBC report, the Iran government reported nearly 42,000 deaths till July but the country's health ministry had said that 14,405 fatalities had occurred with the number of infected cases reported by the government at 451,024, although the health ministry is reported to have revealed 78,827 cases.

Although the number of cases had reportedly dipped in April and May, however, some areas have shown a surge in cases in the last few weeks. Iran had reported the first case of the virus in late February.

Iran's health ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said on Sunday that the total number of coronavirus cases was 309,437 with the death toll rising to 17,190.

There have been doubts raised by several experts on Iran's actual death toll. However, the health ministry spokesman confirmed that since late June daily infections have been on a "rising trajectory".

"We are concerned that trivialising the situation and lax observance of health protocols may lead to a worsening of the outbreak in the province," &nbsp;Lari stated.

Mazandaran has become the new epicentre of the virus even as Qom in central Iran has been widely reported to be witnessing a surge in cases.

Amid the rising number of cases, Iran has made wearing masks compulsory in sensitive areas and local officials have been given powers to reimpose restrictive measures. &nbsp;
