"America's network of allies and partners provides us an asymmetric advantage our adversaries cannot match," Esper said.

The initiative named the Guidance for Development for Alliances and Partnerships(GDAP) aims to foster relations with partner countries in order to facilitate militaries cooperation and US arms sales.

"China and Russia probably have fewer than 10 allies combined," the defence secretary said, adding,"the smaller the nation and the greater its needs, the heavier the pressure from Beijing."

Esper citing NATO and Malt's example said: "Examples like these illustrate the importance of aligning with like-minded nations, large and small, to maintain the free and open order that has served us all so very well for decades."

The defence secretary also highlighted the need to build closer ties with "like-minded democracies such as <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/rajanth-singh-us-defence-secretary-mark-esper-discuss-china-build-up-301895">India</a> and Indonesia". Esper is due to visit India next week.

"They all recognize what China is doing," he added.

Taiwan's foreign minister's comments come amid the country's deteriorating relations with China over the past few months. According to reports, US President Donald Trump abruptly cut short a solo interview with CBS News’ 60 Minutes on Tuesday and failed to return for a joint appearance with US Vice President Mike Pence.

The US president reportedly sat down with correspondent Lesley Stahl at the White House as cameras began rolling, however, he apparently told the broadcaster that they already had got material to use.&nbsp;

Trump then took a dig at CBS saying it was “fake and biased” while adding that he was "considering posting" the interview "prior to airtime".

The report of brain damage is the first of its kind reported in the country for coronavirus patients. The girl aged 11 reported blurred vision, however, her condition improved with immunotherapy treatment and was later discharged from hospital with 50 per cent of her vision restored.

The draft said the COVID-19 infection had induced Acute Demyelinating Syndrome (ADS) in the girl which was the first in the "paediatric age group".

The man later recovered but a week later he noticed ringing in his left ear which led to hearing loss even as the doctors tested him for flu, HIV and rheumatoid arthritis but all showed negative results.

The doctors in the UK were unable to ascertain the exact cause of the man's hearing loss and asked for more investigations into the case.

According to researchers, bottle-fed babies have been consuming more than a million pieces of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/plastic-pollution-flowing-into-oceans-to-triple-by-2040-study-315624">microplastics</a> each day.

The researchers in Ireland found that at an average bottle-fed babies&nbsp;consumed 1.6 million plastic microparticles each day during the first 12 months of their lives. The research was published in the Nature Food journal.

The study looked at rate of microplastic release in ten types of baby bottles with polypropylene being the most commonly used plastic for food containers.

A research had earlier concluded that <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/food-deliveries-during-virus-lockdown-fuel-thailand-plastic-usage-306842">microplastics</a> and nanoplastics have been found in humans worldwide.&nbsp;

According to "Plastic Oceans”, at least 300 million tonnes of plastic waste is produced worldwide every year with microplastics being 0.2 inches and nanonplastics smaller than 0.001 mm.

Researchers have found that exposure to high water temperatures has had the biggest effect on <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/plastic-pollution-is-booming-from-coronavirus-and-will-get-worse-after-the-pandemic-304641">microplastic</a> release, going from 0.6 million particles per litre on an average at 25C to 55 million/litre at 95C.

According to the researchers, babies in developed countries were reportedly taking the most <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/spain-to-enforce-tax-on-plastic-packaging-to-curb-pollution-302734">plastic</a> with 2.3 million particles daily in North America and 2.6 million in Europe which it attributed to low breast-feeding rates in richer countries. &nbsp;

The study had taken World Health Organization(WHO) guidelines on sterilisation as the basis of the study. The researchers said that proper studies on microplastic impact on human health needs to be carried out further.

Earlier, a study by Arizona State University had claimed that tiny particles of plastic exist in human tissues in lungs, liver, spleen and kidneys with microplastics being the most common.

According to researchers, bottle-fed babies have been consuming more than a million pieces of microplastics each day. The research was published in the Nature Food journal. The study looked at rate of microplastic release in ten types of baby bottles with polypropylene being the most commonly used plastic for food containers. A research had earlier concluded that microplastics and nanoplastics have been found in humans worldwide. According to "Plastic Oceans”, at least 300 million tonnes of plastic waste is produced worldwide every year with microplastics being 0.2 inches and nanonplastics smaller than 0.001 mm. Researchers have found that exposure to high water temperatures has had the biggest effect on microplastic release, going from 0.6 million particles per litre on an average at 25C to 55 million/litre at 95C. According to the researchers, babies in developed countries were reportedly taking the most plastic with 2.3 million particles daily in North America and 2.6 million in Europe which it attributed to low breast-feeding rates in richer countries. The study had taken World Health Organization(WHO) guidelines on sterilisation as the basis of the study. The researchers said that proper studies on microplastic impact on human health needs to be carried out further. Earlier, a study by Arizona State University had claimed that tiny particles of plastic exist in human tissues in lungs, liver, spleen and kidneys with microplastics being the most common.

"A request has also been received from the PLA about the whereabouts of the missing soldier. As per established protocols, he will be returned back to Chinese officials at the Chushul-Moldo meeting point after completion of formalities," the Indian Army had said.
