Reading enhances your critical thinking skills and creativity. It also broadens your vocabulary, boosts your knowledge and stimulates your imagination.

Books can make you feel all emotions, from happiness and surprise to sadness, fear and anger. Experiencing a variety of emotions can help build your resilience and ability to deal with difficult situations.

Speaking of stress relief, escaping into the captivating world of books can help lower your heart rate and relax your muscles. Books are also a healthy way to help you compartmentalise when you focus on a story instead of a stressful event.

Engaging in the world of books can contribute to your social life. Staying social has big benefits including preventing isolation, which is a risk factor for depression and dementia.

Reading fiction can allow you to temporarily escape your own world and become swept up in the imagined experiences of the characters. And non-fiction self-help books can teach you strategies that may help you manage depression symptoms.

Reading different world and characters in a book, makes you understand the world better. As you read characters and their journey in a story, they develop a sense of understanding about people and become more emphathetic towards them.

Science never ceases to amaze. The more we get to know, the more is left to be known always. Recently, a new technique by astronomers led them to suggest that our Solar System’s disc of material extends farther into space than we thought earlier.

After decades of observing space deeply, astronomers came to the conclusion that icy boulders, known as the Kuiper Belt, thin out from 48 times the distance between Earth and the Sun (or 48 AU). The belts of rubble have been seen extending for at least twice that distance around stars, making the Solar System rather small by comparison.&nbsp;

A team of astronomers led by Canada's Herzberg Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Centre had hoped to uncover new targets for the New Horizons Probe to investigate as it journeyed through the Solar System's outer reaches.

<h2>What has the New Horizon Probe discovered?</h2>

The mission snapped pictures of a snowman-shaped rock, roughly 40 AU from the Sun, before continuing on its journey at a speed of just under 60,000 kilometres per hour. It's no simple task finding things for the plucky little probe to look at, now that it's nearly 60 AU from the Sun.&nbsp;

One technique commonly used is called shift-stacking. Taking pictures at different times and then stacking the images on top of one another, it's possible to combine all of that light from a dimly-lit object into a point, increasing its visibility.

The research team made use of machine learning, training a neural network on made-up objects inserted into telescope imagery before setting it loose on data collected using the Subaru Telescope on Mauna Kea in Hawaii in 2020 and 2021.

Compared with a human search through the 2020 data, the machine learning technique identified twice as many Kuiper Belt Objects, suggesting a distinct rise in the density of material at a distance of around 60 to 80 AU along New Horizons' trajectory.

It's possible our Solar System has at least two 'rings' of icy material divided by a gap at around 50 AU; one consisting of the familiar Kuiper Belt, the other a wide stretch of icy boulders reaching as far from Pluto as Pluto is from us.

Why such a gap might exist at all, of course, is an intriguing mystery itself.

The study's results are yet to be peer-reviewed, and would then need to be confirmed by future ground- and space-based surveys.

Our solar system might be spread farther into space than earlier thought

Scientists recently found an “extremely rare” set of prehistoric fossils along a stretch of the reservoir in Utah. The crew of palaeontologists was near Lake Powell to study the fossil near its tracks when they found these rare fossils. The unusual fossils discovered are&nbsp;in a tritylodontid bonebed in the Navajo Sandstone in Utah.

It is the first tritylodontid bonebed to be discovered there, the National Park Service said in a news release. The park service called the find “one of the more important fossil vertebrate discoveries in the United States this year.”

The bonebed includes “body fossils”, like bones and teeth, which are rarely seen in the Navajo Sandstone, a geologic formation in the Glen Canyon area that is typically seen in southern Utah.

"This new discovery will shed light on the fossil history exposed on the changing shorelines of Lake Powell," the park service said. Lake Powell is a major artificial reservoir along the Colorado River that runs across southern Utah and into Arizona.

<h2>How these rare fossils were discovered?</h2>

Field crews were able to recover the rare fossils during a short 120-day window during which they accessed the location in Navajo Sandstone, the park service said, noting that the site “had been submerged by Lake Powell’s fluctuating water levels and was only found because the palaeontologists were in the right place at the right time before annual snowmelt filled the lake."

Another rare bonebed was found nearby in the Kayenta Formation, which is slightly older than the sandstone where the tritylondontid discovery was made, according to the park service.

"The crew collected several hundred pounds of rocks encasing the fossil bones and skeletons at the site," the agency said.

The rocks recovered from the site will be scanned using X-ray and computerised tomography at the University of Utah South Jordan Health Center. After this, these rocks will be studied further at the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm by laboratory and collections crew volunteers.&nbsp;

The Petrified Forest National Park and the Smithsonian Institution will support the project as the fossils become part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area museum collections.

Jagannath Temple authorities will start asking devotees to follow a dress code inside the temple from next year. The dress code for devotes in the temple will come into effect from 1 January 2024, according to a report in PTI.&nbsp;

"The dress code will be strictly enforced inside the temple from January 1, 2024. Security personnel deployed at 'Singha Dwar' of the temple, and Pratihari servitors inside the temple have been assigned the responsibility to enforce the code," Shree Jagannath Temple Administration chief Ranjan Kumar Das, PTI reported.

A second temple official said the awareness campaigns to ask devotees to wear “decent clothes” in the temple will start from Tuesday. “The Jagannath temple police and the temple servitors would keep an eye on anyone wearing indecent clothes,” the official added.

<h2>Decision to enforce dress code inside temple premises</h2>

The temple authorities said they took this decision after people were found in the temple in “indecent” clothing. Implementation of a proper dress code in the temple is a step towards maintaining the dignity and sanctity of the temple.&nbsp;

"Some people were found in the temple wearing torn jeans pants, sleeveless dresses, and half-pants, as if they were strolling on the sea beach or a park. The temple is the abode of God, not a place for entertainment," he said.

On the kind of dresses to be allowed, Das said that it would soon be decided. He said that the temple administration will start creating awareness about the dress code among the devotees first before implementing the dress code. The awareness programme will start from Tuesday.&nbsp;

As of now, the authorities have said, that people wearing half-pants, torn jeans, skirts and sleeveless dresses will not be allowed entry into the temple.&nbsp;

Jagannath Temple in Odisha is not the only temple in India that took this decision. In July last year, Jharkhand Mahadev Temple in Jaipur district introduced a dress code for devotees. They asked them to refrain from wearing ripped jeans, shorts, frocks, night suits, and mini-skirts.

Decision to enforce dress code inside temple premises The temple authorities said they took this decision after people were found in the temple in “indecent” clothing. Implementation of a proper dress code in the temple is a step towards maintaining the dignity and sanctity of the temple. Amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, Israel’s former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett gave civilians an odd piece of advice to blow the cover of Hamas militants portraying as IDF soldiers.&nbsp;

Bennett’s advice was shared through a WhatsApp message with Channel 12 News Israel, an Israeli broadcaster. He advises the people in a voice message, saying, “If the IDF knocks on your door, it could be terrorists, so don’t open it right away.”

He advised people to ask which unit the soldiers are from and to consider asking a "code" question.

The code question, he said, is "who represented Israel in the Eurovision."

Bennett added: "The terrorists will not know."

Bennett was earlier seen with the military, as he joined the reserve duty after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel over the weekend. Since then, thousands of Israelis have been killed and hundreds have been captured.

World's Largest Hindu Temple Outside India Opens in New Jersey, USA

New Jersey is now home to world's largest Hindu temple outside of India. The temple is known as BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham.

The Akshardham's design is deeply rooted in ancient Hindu scriptures and features elements from India's rich cultural heritage.

The inauguration for the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham, guided by BAPS spiritual leader Mahant Swami Maharaj, took place on Oct 8, with doors opening to visitors on Oct 18.

The temple spans an impressive 255 feet in length, 345 feet in width, and 191 feet in height, covering an expansive 183 acres.

This monumental temple is situated approximately 60 miles (90 kilometres) south of Times Square in New York or around 180 miles (289 kilometres) north of Washington, DC, in the US.

Within its premises, there is a Brahma Kund, a traditional Indian stepwell filled with water sourced from more than 300 bodies of water worldwide, including the sacred rivers of India and all 50 states of the US.

The construction of Akshardham has been a collective effort, with volunteers from across the United States receiving guidance from skilled artisans in India.

In the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, an Israeli mother and her two daughters are among the hundreds of civilians held hostage by militants. Hamas invaded Israel on Oct 7&nbsp;morning through land and air, killing and capturing hundreds of Israelis.&nbsp;

Doron Asher, the mother of the two young girls, had gone with her girls to visit their grandmother in the village of Nir Oz near the Gaza border over the weekend when Hamas militants descended on the home, as per Reuters.

Doron called her husband, Yoni, who was in central Israel and was terrified over the call when she told him that the “terrorists are in the house.” After this, the phone was cut and Yoni hasn’t heard from her since.

On tracking Doron’s phone, Yoni found that her location showed her being across the border in Gaza.&nbsp;

Later, a video surfaced online in which Doron was clearly seen with her daughters being held at gunpoint in a cart along with other hostages in Hamas.

Distressed Yoni issued a desperate plea that his family be kept safe, and even offered himself up as a hostage in exchange for their return.&nbsp;
