Panic broke out inside the Thai Airways plane after the air-conditioner malfunctioned leaving passengers with no option but to gasp for breath.

The passengers were stuck inside the flight for two horrific hours which they called a sweltering “sauna” plane before the authorities cancelled the flight entirely.

The incident took place on July 25 in a Boeing 777 after there was a malfunction in the air conditioning system on Thai Airways flight TG 917. The flight had to take off from London and was to land in Bangkok at 9:25 p.m., as reported by ViralPress.

Because of the malfunction, the passengers got stuck in what can be called a veritable steam room as the crew members made all efforts to solve the issue.

“People were stuck on the plane and couldn’t leave,” said 26-year-old Warawalan Maksaen, who is a student at the University of Exeter and was trapped along with the other passengers aboard the flight.

Water was given to the passengers by a flight attendant after two hours and the door was opened to let fresh air in.

Because no technicians were available the passengers were asked to deplane at 11 pm (local time) after needlessly unnecessarily remaining stuck in the hot aircraft.

After the passengers were deplaned, they were given two unenviable choices. “We could either sleep in the airport until the rescheduled flight or take a bus to find a hotel,” said Maksaen.

“Myself and a lot of the other passengers went to the bus station to wait for transportation to a hotel. There was no help from the airline, and the last group of passengers waited aimlessly until the last three buses arrived at 2 a.m.," she said.

The Paris 2024 Olympics has again come under intense scrutiny after British swimmer Adam Peaty claimed that there were worms in the food served to the athletes and that the conditions of the Olympic Village are “just not good enough”.

The 29-year-old swimmer made the allegation and became the latest athlete who has trashed the village food as subpar, as reported by iNews.

Peaty, who clinched silver in the 100m breaststroke, slammed the organisers for taking the pledge of making 60 per cent of meals meat-free as part of their efforts to make the Games sustainable and said that it was just a punishment for athletes.

“I want to eat meat, I need meat to perform and that’s what I eat at home, so why should I change?” the swimmer said while speaking to the outlet, in an interview which was published Tuesday (August 6).

“I like my fish and people are finding worms in the fish. It’s just not good enough. The standard, we’re looking at the best of the best in the world — and we’re feeding them not the best," he added.

Peaty, who also contracted Covid during the Games, said that athletes have been “blindsided” by the challenges they are facing while living in the Olympic Village in Paris.

“The catering isn’t good enough for the level the athletes are expected to perform. We need to give the best we possibly can,” the swimmer said.

Reacting to the allegations, a Paris 2024 spokesperson said, “We are listening to the athletes and take their feedback very seriously. The Paris 2024 Olympics has again come under intense scrutiny after British swimmer Adam Peaty claimed that there were worms in the food served to the athletes and that the conditions of the Olympic Village are “just not good enough”.

We need to give the best we possibly can,” the swimmer said. “Tokyo, the food was incredible, Rio was incredible. But this time around … there wasn’t enough protein options, long queues, waiting 30 minutes for food because there’s no queuing system," he added. Here's how 2024 Paris Olympics authorities reacted to the allegation of 'worms in food' Reacting to the allegations, a Paris 2024 spokesperson said, “We are listening to the athletes and take their feedback very seriously. Not seven but six continents are present on Earth, claims a shocking study. Here's how

The scientists, in a new study, tried to understand if meteor showers can pose a threat to spacecraft, satellites or astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS).

The study has been carried out at a time when the skies will witness multiple meteor showers and allow people to watch meteoroids, which are grains of cosmic dust that comets leave. People will also be watching the meteoroids turn into brilliant "shooting stars" as they enter the atmosphere of Earth.

One of the biggest meteor showers that will light the skies is the Perseid meteor shower which is expected to peak around August 11-12.

Head of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office at Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama Bill Cooke said that the meteor showers don't pose any threat in most cases.

"If you are inside the ISS, meteoroids pose zero risk," said Cooke, while speaking to Space.com.

Here's how the International Space Station remains protected from meteoroids

According to the scientists, the astronauts remain protected from meteoroids because of a "Whipple bumper" which is present in the International Space Station (ISS).

The Whipple bumper has been named after its inventor Fred Whipple who created the "dirty snowball" model which describes how the comets are made up and the shield has sheets of metal with Kevlar placed between them.

The meteoroids are not deflected but broken up by the shield and their energy is dispersed into the shield.

"The odds of a meteoroid penetrating the space station are vanishingly small — you can think of the space station as the tank of low Earth orbit," said Cooke.

"If you were an astronaut on EVA [extravehicular activity, i.e., a spacewalk] and you went outside the space station, you would see all these little pips and dents in the hull," he added.

The scientists said that nearly half of those dents happen because of meteoroid strikes.

The ISS remains at an altitude of between 230 and 285 miles (370 to 460 kilometres) and space junk is the reason behind half of the impacts and at times, the ISS has to maneuver to avoid space junk.

Hence, meteor showers hardly pose any danger to the ISS, as per Cooke. "Only during a meteor storm or outburst are the meteor rates significantly elevated," he added.
