A woman in the United States has been claiming that she is a "real-life vampire" and has been feeding on the energy of humans.

The woman, identified as Hellen Schweizer, has earned for herself the title "Vampire Hellie" and is known to wear cloaks and fangs.

The 29-year-old claims to "feed on people's energy" and eat bloody sausages and has now become a viral sensation.

Hellie says she does not like daylight and when she is out in the sun, her energy is depleted and she feels nauseous, irritable and dizzy.

Woman embodies life of vampire

The woman, who hails from Ohio, United States, said that vampirism interested her from an early age, but when she grew older, she did more research on it and started to live her life like a vampire.

Speaking to The Mirror, Hellie said, "I was interested in vampires from a young age, but because I grew up in a religious household, I was not encouraged."

She does a lot of live videos, and speaks in a hushed voice, where she creates "what would you do if this vampire entered your home" videos while in costume.

"People love me dressing up, and I embrace that - it is very good for business. It really did start out as a cosplay on TikTok for fun, but one day I looked at myself in the mirror and thought, 'this is not the costume'. When all of the fangs and costume are off - that's the costume. So I started digging deeper into what real vampirism is," Hellie said.

"While I do love wearing fangs, that's not exactly what being a real vampire is all about," she added.

"For me, I feed off energy. Not in the sense of sucking the energy out of a room, but energy is everywhere and is in every living thing, and there is ambient energy, which is great and you can take that. In a spiritual sense, I don't have enough energy of my own, so I need a little help from my friends," Hellie said.

NASA is all prepared to send its spacecraft Europa Clipper to Jupiter and its moon Europa where it will try to find life beyond Earth.

Europa Clipper is expected to look below the icy crust of the moon where it is believed that an ocean is hiding very close to the surface.

The spacecraft is not expected to search for life but to find if there are conditions in Europa that can support life.

NASA will have to launch another mission to find if any kind of microorganisms are lurking on the moon of Jupiter.

“It’s a chance for us to explore not a world that might have been habitable billions of years ago, but a world that might be habitable today — right now,” programme scientist Curt Niebur said.

All about Europa Clipper

The Europa Clipper is the biggest spacecraft built by NASA for investigating another planet so far. The spacecraft will take 5 and a half years to reach the planet and will travel within 16 miles of the surface of Europa.

The spacecraft's liftoff is set to take place this month aboard SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre and the mission has cost around $5.2 billion.

The spacecraft has supersized solar panels which is required due to the distance of Jupiter from the Sun.

Jupiter's roundabout trip will cover 1.8 billion miles (3 billion kilometres) and it is expected to fly past Mars early next year and cross Earth in late 2026.

In 2030, the spacecraft will arrive at Jupiter and will start the work. When it will orbit Jupiter, it is expected to cross paths with Europa 49 times.

It is expected that the mission will end in 2034 by crashing into Ganymede, which is the biggest moon of Jupiter and the solar system.

What kind of life is likely to harbour in Europa?

Europa, one of the 95 known moons of Jupiter, is almost as big as our moon.

It is covered with an ice sheet which is around 10 miles to 15 miles or more (15 kilometres to 24 kilometres) thick.

According to scientists, beneath this frozen crust is an ocean which is likely to be 80 miles (120 kilometres) or deeper.

The experts believe that there can be thermal vents on the ocean floor on Europa.

Deputy project scientist Bonnie Buratti said, “We will not know from this mission because we can’t see that deep."

IPO or an initial public offering has become one of the most lucrative investment options for investors who are targetting a lump sum amount of profit over a fixed capital. India's IPO market is currently buzzing as some major companies like Hyundai Motor, Swiggy, Bajaj Housing Finance, and NTPC Green are set to open subscriptions to their IPOs in the days ahead. The unlisted share price of Hyundai Motor India Ltd has seen a significant decline days before its mega IPO and the the grey market premium (GMP) has fallen by around 75 per cent. Also Read: Money-Wise: Planning to invest in an IPO? Here are five things you must keep in mind Such scenarios make it difficult for investors to predict the future of IPOs and take into consideration the risk factors involved in this investment. Explaining the risk involved in investing in IPOs, Prashant Rao, Director & Head - Equity Capital Markets, Anand Rathi Investment Banking, said to WION, "It does not always guarantee quick gains, as the performance of newly listed stocks can vary based on multiple factors. While some IPOs offer immediate listing gains due to high demand, market sentiment, and favourable pricing, this may not always be the case. Stocks can also underperform or experience volatility in the short term." "For long-term returns, the focus should be on the company's fundamentals, cash flow situation, growth potential, and its position within the industry," he added. Watch: Surge in Indian IPO bids The investors can achieve sustainable long-term growth if the companies have strong business models and expansion plans, however, an IPO's success depends on thorough research and market conditions. Here are key factors to look into while booking profit in an IPO If the investors are planning to book profit on an IPO, the decision should not be made randomly but should be taken after looking into some key factors. Anand Rathi Investment Banking's Director & Head - Equity Capital Markets, Prashant Rao, lists out these key factors for investors. When booking profits in an IPO, it's important to assess factors such as listing gains, market sentiment, and stock valuation and not go with the flow. Strong listing-day performance may offer short-term profit opportunities, while holding the stock could be beneficial if market trends and the company’s fundamentals indicate long-term growth. Investors should also monitor the lock-in expiry for major shareholders, as large post-lock-in sale can drive the price down. The company’s financial health, growth prospects, and planned use of IPO proceeds (such as capex) are also something based on which investors can form their decision on whether to hold or sell. Additionally, staying updated on analyst views and target prices can provide insight into future performance.

Why Narayana Murthy once touched the feet of Ratan Tata? Here's the entire story

Using the James Webb Space Telescope, scientists looked into the exoplanet GJ 9827 d in the constellation Pisces and found that this super-Earth has an atmosphere that is saturated with water vapour.

The telescope was used by the Canadian-led international study to gather data on the atmosphere of GJ 9827 d which is around 98 light-years away from Earth.

Here's what scientists found in the exoplanet's atmosphere

In the study, it was found that the atmosphere of the planet has a high concentration of heavy molecules, which included a good amount of water vapour. Because of this, the astronomers believed that it was a “steam world”.

At the start of the year, with the help of data collected by the Hubble Space Telescope, IREx researchers stated that they had found water in the atmosphere of GJ 9827 d, which made it the smallest exoplanet with a confirmed atmosphere.

These major findings opened new ways for scientists who are searching for life outside our Solar System.

Till now, the detection of atmospheres near smaller planets closer to Earth was an elusive goal.

“For now, all the planets we’ve detected that have atmospheres are giant planets, or at best mini-Neptunes,” stated lead study author Piaulet-Ghorayeb.

“These planets have atmospheres made up mostly of hydrogen, making them more similar to gas giants in the solar system than to terrestrial planets like Earth, which have atmospheres dominated by heavier elements," he said.

The observations were made by Piaulet-Ghorayeb and her team with the help of a Canadian instrument on JWST, the Near-Infrared Imager and Slitless Spectrograph (NIRISS).

With the help of transmission spectroscopy, the scientists observed the starlight which passed through the atmosphere of the planet as it transited (passed in front of) its host star, GJ 9827.

The new JWST observations were then combined with preliminary HST observations to provide strong evidence about how the planet’s atmosphere led to the observed spectral features and it did not occur because of the contamination from the system’s star.

It was observed that the exoplanet GJ 9827 stands different from others because of the composition of its atmosphere.

Piaulet-Ghorayeb combined JWST/NIRISS and HST data and showed that the atmosphere of GJ 9827 d is filled with heavier molecules and a quite large amount of water vapour, which is not the situation in the case of the hydrogen-dominated atmospheres of the larger planets.

With the combination of data from JWST's Near-Infrared Imager and Slitless Spectrograph (NIRISS) with earlier HST data, Piaulet-Ghorayeb and her team showed that the atmosphere of the planet is significantly different from those of larger planets.

"It's closer in molecular weight to the carbon dioxide or nitrogen-rich atmospheres that we are currently looking for on smaller rocky planets, where we would eventually look for life," she said.

In a stunning discovery, NASA's Hubble Space Telescope spotted Jupiter's legendary Great Red Spot (GRS) shaking like a bowl of gelatin.

The GRS has always intrigued the astronomers with its existence. It is an anticyclone on the planet which is large enough that it can swallow Earth and is believed to have been present for at least 150 years.

However, in the new observations made by Hubble from the data collected across 90 days between December 2023 to March 2024, it was found that GRS is not actually stable.

The combination of the Hubble images helped astronomers create a time-lapse movie of the abrupt behaviour of the GRS.

"While we knew its motion varies slightly in its longitude, we didn't expect to see the size oscillate. As far as we know, it's not been identified before," said Amy Simon, lead author of the paper published in The Planetary Science Journal and member of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Centre in Greenbelt, Maryland.

"This is really the first time we've had the proper imaging cadence of the GRS. With Hubble's high resolution, we can say that the GRS is definitively squeezing in and out at the same time as it moves faster and slower. That was very unexpected, and at present, there are no hydrodynamic explanations," he added.

Here's how astronomers used Hubble telescope to study

The team, led by Simon, used the Hubble telescope to zoom in on the GRS and get detailed information regarding its size, shape, and any subtle colour changes.

"When we look closely, we see a lot of things are changing from day to day," Simon said.

In the study, ultraviolet-light observations were made, which showed that the storm's distinct core gets brightest when the GRS reaches its largest size in its oscillation cycle. This is indicative of less haze absorption in the upper atmosphere.

"As it accelerates and decelerates, the GRS is pushing against the windy jet streams to the north and south of it," stated co-investigator Mike Wong of the University of California at Berkeley.

"It's similar to a sandwich where the slices of bread are forced to bulge out when there's too much filling in the middle," he added.

Since the OPAL programme started 10 years ago, the team has been watching the GRS shrink and has predicted that it will continue shrinking before it takes a stable, less-elongated, shape.

"Right now it's over-filling its latitude band relative to the wind field. Once it shrinks inside that band, the winds will really be holding it in place," Simon said.

According to the team, the GRS will most probably get stabilised in size.

One of the greatest deep-sea mysteries in the world had kept scientists engaged for more than a decade but now they claim to have most likely solved it. In 2011, Swedish explorers Peter Lindberg and Denis Asberg were on the search for treasure inside the Baltic Sea when a shocking structure was detected by their sonar radars.

The structure was present 300 feet (90 metres) beneath the waves and it had a circular shape with a diameter of approximately 200 feet (60 metres), as reported by the Discovery Channel. As per the report, the form had angular lines and to many, it appeared eerily similar to the iconic Star Wars starship the Millennium Falcon. Scientists also claimed that the structure had “stair-like formations” and 660 feet (200 metres) away from it was another unknown object. While speaking to Sweden’s TV4 about the unique find, Asberg said, “We were really surprised and puzzled. We were thinking, ‘What is that we have found here?’. This is not a wreck. At that time we thought for sure there was a natural explanation." “We wanted to look into it some more and decided to keep this totally quiet. We contacted geologists, marine biologists and when they said they had never seen anything like this, of course, more thoughts were triggered. It could be something really awesome that we’ve found," he added. Also Read: There is an ancient underwater 'Stonehenge' beneath Lake Michigan in US. It was created by... The weird structure prompted speculations about it being the remains of an ancient civilisation or UFO or hidden Nazi weapon or secret World War II bunker. Lindberg, offering his own theories regarding the structure to NBC in 2012, said, "It has these very strange stair formations, and if it is constructed, it must have been constructed tens of thousands of years ago before the Ice Age." "If this is Atlantis, that would be quite amazing," he added. Not Atlantis, here's what scientists claim the structure is In 2016, the Ocean X team explored the structure, took some samples from the site and made a documentary on it. After studying the samples, Stockholm University geologist Volker Bruchert said, "What has been generously ignored by the Ocean-X team is that most of the samples they have brought up from the sea bottom are granites and gneisses and sandstones." After the analysis, he claimed that the object was not at all mysterious. Also Read: Another world with six-storey buildings beneath the Arctic? Here's what scientists found on its seafloor "I was surprised when I researched the material. I found a great black stone that could be a volcanic rock. My hypothesis is that this object, this structure was formed during the Ice Age many thousands of years ago," he added. The researchers also agreed that it was created by the process of glacial movements which had occurred during the Ice Age. Some even suggested that it was made of sandstone or basalt or from hardened lava which was produced from an underwater volcano. (With inputs from agencies)

Ratan Tata, the industrialist and Tata Sons chairman emeritus, who died at the age of 86 at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday (Oct 9) was the one who stood like a pillar even as black fumes rose from the Taj Mahal Palace, and the rescue operation went on to save those stranded in the hotel amid the 26/11 terror attack.
