A woman has been facing all kinds of obstacles in life because she has been named Marijuana Pepsi from birth, however, she has decided never to change her name.&nbsp;

Ironically, the 52-year-old woman does not drink fizzy drinks, or alcohol or smoke weed, as reported by The New York Post.&nbsp;

Marijuana Pepsi Vandyck was named by her mother who had claimed that this name would "take her around the world" because of its originality.

Marijuana said that as she grew up she faced questions about the moniker and some even assumed that her mother took drugs or had been imprisoned, which was not true.&nbsp;

<h2>Marijuana's job challenge</h2>

Marijuana said that a lot of job applications submitted by her have been declined because of her name and some have even said that she shouldn't be permitted to work in education.&nbsp;

She has never smoked weed but gets approached by marijuana companies “all the time” who ask to work with her.&nbsp;

Marijuana, who stays close to Live Oak, Florida, said, “Classmates and even teachers would whisper and come up to me asking if it was my real name."

“I would overhear people speculating if my mother was a ‘crackhead’ – I still have people say that to this day. When people find out my name, they ask for my nickname instead. I tell them if calling me Marijuana isn’t comfortable, they can call me Dr Vandyck," she said.

“I always knew I would get a PhD as I’ve dedicated my life to education – and I thought if people would be calling me Marijuana Pepsi, I’ll be Dr Marijuana Pepsi," Marijuana further stated.

The manager informed the father that his daughter's vacation was not granted and if she took off without authorisation, it would be considered as “voluntary resignation.”&nbsp;

At one point, the father is seen as saying, “You are forcing a kid to resign for vacation she has no control over, and I'm making this hard?”

<h2>Here's how netizens reacted to the conversation</h2>

Some of them slammed the father for interfering a lot in his child's life.&nbsp;

“1. A 10-day&nbsp;vacation&nbsp;is not trivial. A small business losing a worker for 10 days is very significant. People put in these kinds of requests MONTHS in advance. 2. Why are you texting your daughter’s manager for her?” wrote a Threads user.

“Sorry, but you were out of line. Your daughter accepted a job and told the hiring manager there were no upcoming trips. Then you scheduled a trip for your daughter without checking her schedule. Then you jumped the chain of command and embarrassed yourself and your child in front of her boss. The only way she can comfortably continue this job is if you stop calling and she forgoes the trip. If you think the trip you planned is more important than her job, then just tell her to quit," commented another user.

“While I feel for your daughter, can I ask why, before booking the trip you didn’t have her check with her employer as to whether or not the time off would be approved? Do you book trips before validating that you can actually get the time off work and that you aren’t leaving your employer and peers short-handed? As the parent, you’ve put the employer in a bad situation and have taught your daughter how to be an irresponsible employee. It’s not just the employer you hurt, but also her coworkers," stated a third user.

However, some of them felt that the actions of the father were not wrong and that the manager was too “strict” and “unreasonable”.

“There’s just absolutely no reason why your business is so understaffed that you’re relying on a 16-year-old to work. It's ridiculous, let the girl take her vacation and come back, this is another major reason why so much of the younger generation has no desire to work. there is no work-life balance even at 16 years old," wrote a user.

"Your daughter is 16 and should be able to participate in a family vacation!! The boss is just an a** that doesn’t wanna do his job. He needs her more than he’s letting on but doesn’t wanna have to deal with the paperwork that comes with firing her and knows she will get more benefits that way! I'd say don’t let her resign, let her let HIM fire her and she’ll reap more benefits that way!” another said.&nbsp;

Is it possible for scientists to recreate the moon on Earth? The answer to this question is being explored by the European Space Agency (ESA) and German Aerospace Centre who are checking the possibility of recreating the moon in their LUNA Analog Facility.&nbsp;

There are 900 tonnes of ground-up volcanic rock on the moon at this LUNA facility which is at the European Astronaut Centre near Cologne.

Scientists have planned to simulate the low-gravity environment of the moon using movable ceiling-mounted trolleys which follow the rover’s movements or a suspended astronaut.&nbsp;

Speaking about the facility in the press briefing, ESA astronaut Alexander Gerst said that it will offer “most aspects that we will encounter on the moon”.&nbsp;

Is Europe creating its own moon? Here's all about the LUNA facility

The Curiosity rover of NASA is exploring the Gale crater on Mars currently and is providing more details about how the Red Planet's climate turned from potentially suitable for life to inhospitable to terrestrial life.&nbsp;

It has been known that Mars was holding widespread liquid water in ancient times, as per the evidence.&nbsp;

Even though the surface of Mars is hostile and frigid to life, NASA's robotic explorers&nbsp;have been finding clues about whether the planet supported life in the distant past.&nbsp;

Also Read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/science/a-spooky-smiley-face-appears-on-mars-scientists-say-its-hiding-life-forms-757191">A 'spooky smiley face' appears on Mars. Scientists say it's hiding life forms...</a>

The instruments on board Curiosity have been used by the researchers for measuring the isotopic composition of carbon-rich minerals (carbonates) which were discovered in the Gale crater and found new insights into how the ancient climate of the Red Planet transformed.

<h2>Here's what happened to ancient Mars</h2>

"The isotope values of these carbonates point toward extreme amounts of evaporation, suggesting that these carbonates likely formed in a climate that could only support transient liquid&nbsp;water," said David Burtt, who is lead author of a paper and works at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.&nbsp;

The research was&nbsp;published&nbsp;in the&nbsp;Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

"Our samples are not consistent with an ancient environment with life (biosphere) on the surface of Mars, although this does not rule out the possibility of an underground biosphere or a surface biosphere that began and ended before these carbonates formed," Burtt said.&nbsp;

Isotopes are different versions of an element which have different masses. With the evaporation of water, light versions of carbon and oxygen escaped into the atmosphere while the heavy versions remained behind, accumulated in high abundances and were eventually incorporated into the carbonate rocks.

In the paper, the researchers proposed two ways in which carbonates present at Gale were formed.

In the first case, carbonates were created in a series of wet-dry cycles that took place in the Gale Crater. In the second way, carbonates were formed in very salty water that was under cold, ice-forming (cryogenic) conditions in the Gale Crater.

"These formation mechanisms represent two different climate regimes that may present different habitability scenarios," said Jennifer Stern, who is co-author of the paper and is from NASA Goddard.

"Wet-dry cycling would indicate alternation between more-habitable and less-habitable environments, while&nbsp;cryogenic temperatures&nbsp;in the mid-latitudes of Mars would indicate a less-habitable environment where most water is locked up in ice and not available for chemistry or biology, and what is there is extremely salty and unpleasant for life," he added.&nbsp;

The Curiosity rover of NASA is exploring the Gale crater on Mars currently and is providing more details about how the Red Planet's climate turned from potentially suitable for life to inhospitable to terrestrial life. It has been known that Mars was holding widespread liquid water in ancient times, as per the evidence. Even though the surface of Mars is hostile and frigid to life, NASA's robotic explorers have been finding clues about whether the planet supported life in the distant past. Also Read: A 'spooky smiley face' appears on Mars. Scientists say it's hiding life forms... The instruments on board Curiosity have been used by the researchers for measuring the isotopic composition of carbon-rich minerals (carbonates) which were discovered in the Gale crater and found new insights into how the ancient climate of the Red Planet transformed. Here's what happened to ancient Mars "The isotope values of these carbonates point toward extreme amounts of evaporation, suggesting that these carbonates likely formed in a climate that could only support transient liquid water," said David Burtt, who is lead author of a paper and works at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. The research was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. "Our samples are not consistent with an ancient environment with life (biosphere) on the surface of Mars, although this does not rule out the possibility of an underground biosphere or a surface biosphere that began and ended before these carbonates formed," Burtt said. Isotopes are different versions of an element which have different masses. With the evaporation of water, light versions of carbon and oxygen escaped into the atmosphere while the heavy versions remained behind, accumulated in high abundances and were eventually incorporated into the carbonate rocks. In the first case, carbonates were created in a series of wet-dry cycles that took place in the Gale Crater. In the second way, carbonates were formed in very salty water that was under cold, ice-forming (cryogenic) conditions in the Gale Crater. Mars once had water to support life. Curiosity rover now finds what made it uninhabitable

In a mysterious discovery, scientists found an enigmatic stone structure - which appeared similar to the world-famous Stonehenge - sitting below&nbsp;Lake Michigan&nbsp;in the US.

As per experts, this underwater Stonehenge is more than 5,000 years older in comparison to its British counterpart on surface.

A team of archaeologists, headed by the professor of underwater archaeology at Northwestern Michigan College, Mark Holley, had discovered the site in 2007.&nbsp;

A survey of the lake bed was conducted by Holley and his colleagues when they discovered a series of large stones - which appeared to be arranged in a circular pattern near the coast of Traverse City, Michigan.

Holley later said that the discovery of rocks at a depth of about 40 feet (12.1 metre) was entirely unexpected.&nbsp;

In the analysis, it was found that the stones - which weighed around 3,000 lbs (around 1,360 kg) - appeared to have been arranged deliberately by humans in a circular pattern, as reported by Medium.

The circular pattern is nearly 40 feet in diameter and features an&nbsp;inner circle of stones which measures around 20 feet in diameter.

The stones are entirely made of granite and are likely to be around 10,000 years old, which makes them the oldest formation ever discovered in North America.

The stones in Lake Michigan are relatively similar in size, however, their origin remains mysterious and murky. &nbsp;

“Whilst they do seem to form a perfect geometric shape, they aren't stacked or connected in the same way,” said scientist Rob Nelson, while speaking to&nbsp;Discovery&nbsp;UK.

“And while there is evidence that prehistoric tribes roam to the Great Lakes for thousands of years, very little is known about them,” he said, and added that he hasn’t seen anything “remotely resembling this formation in the archaeological record".

Nelson connected to a man named Hank. This man's ancestors were the Anishinaabe people who were the first to inhabit the region.

Hank said that the prehistoric, hunter-gatherer forefathers of his tribe had settled in the area after the last Ice Age and kept those stones beneath the lake for a sacred purpose.

“[In Anishabe culture], we refer to stones as animate objects because they come from the mother, the Earth, who is alive,” he said and added that the presence of the monument in the lake is proof of the existence of his people.

Meanwhile, Holley said that the area had not submerged underwater 10,000 years ago and the people had settled on the spot where they had laid the stones.&nbsp;

“It would've been a wonderful place for people to live – near the coastline, close to resources, transportation's easy,” said the archaeologist, while speaking to Nelson.

The weird, alien-looking species was 5 feet (1.5 metres) long and had washed up at Dueodde Beach, which is on the southernmost tip of the Danish island Bornholm.&nbsp;

After the beach cleaners picked it up, they realised how heavy the object was.

<h2>Experts suggest that it's not a 'sea snake'</h2>

It was initially believed that the object was a "sea snake", however, the experts clarified that it was not a sea snake but the penis of a humpback whale.&nbsp;

A four-year-old Chinese boy lost his finger after his father took him to a foot massage shop to get treatment for his nail fungal infection.

The boy was taken to the Luozhendong Foot Massage Parlour, which is in Chongqing Municipality of China, for treatment of an infection in his left index fingernail in July 2023, as reported by China Consumer News.

<h2>Here's how the mishap happened</h2>

According to the shop, they had a medicine called “nail removing cream," which they claimed could solve the problem of the boy.

The doctors applied the cream on the infected fingernail of the boy and bound it up using an elastic bandage. The father paid the parlour 600 yuan (US$86) for the treatment.

After two days, the father discovered that the finger of his son had atrophied and turned black. The boy was rushed to a hospital where the doctors diagnosed gangrene in his finger.&nbsp;

The doctors stated that the left index fingertip of Lin needed to be amputated to prevent the infection from spreading further.

The boy was graded as a 10th-class handicap and his father sought more than 200,000 yuan (US$29,000) in compensation from the shop, which refused tp pay.&nbsp;

The matter was taken by the father to the local district consumer council in February.

The council found that the “nail removing cream” was not properly licensed. They claimed that it just had sterilisation properties and was not able to cure anything.

The council also found that the name of the shop was different from what was written on their business license.

The shop was held responsible for making the boy handicapped and appealed to suspend its business and provide a compensation of 160,000 yuan (US$23,000) to the boy’s family.&nbsp;

Elon Musk claims if Trump loses to Harris he is 'f***ed', will be thrown in prison

Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has emerged as the voice of the people of Ladakh, expressed his determination to stay away from politics as he pushed ahead with his demand for the region's inclusion in the Sixth Schedule with his indefinite hunger strike on Sunday (Oct&nbsp;6) in the national capital.

With Wangchuk emerging as a strong representative of Ladakh - a sparsely populated&nbsp;union territory of India - he is known to have been receiving invitations to join from various political parties across the nation.

Recently, when he was detained at the Singhu border by the police as he led the 'Delhi Chalo Padayatra’, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi&nbsp;had tried to meet Wangchuk but was unable to do so.&nbsp;

Speaking exclusively to WION, Wangchuk - who is not new to politics - said that he would like to steer away from any political party.

"If I wanted to join a political party, I would have done so in the last 30 years. So, if I have not joined any political party yet, why would I do so now?" he said.

Wangchuk’s father Sonam Wangyal was a Congress leader and later also became a minister in the Jammu and Kashmir state government.&nbsp;

However, Wangchuk said that he does not want to side with any political party and that all the parties should support this "just demand" of Ladakh.

"I want every political party to support us, including the BJP. The political parties should support this very fair and just demand of the people of Ladakh. However, we do not want to side with any one political party," the activist said while speaking to WION.&nbsp;

<h2>Sixth schedule will ensure democracy at grassroot level, says Wangchuk</h2>

Wangchuk said that through this agitation they only want to resume the broken talks with the government regarding their four-point agenda - which clearly demands Ladakh's statehood, its inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, separate Lok Sabha seats for Leh and Kargil districts and a public service commission for Ladakh.

Speaking about why Ladakh needs to be included in the Sixth Schedule to WION, Wangchuk said, "It gives democracy at the grassroot level in regions that have a high percentage of indigenous tribal population. Ladakh has more than 90 per cent indigenous population. With the inclusion of the region in the Sixth Schedule, Ladakh will have autonomous district councils where the local people's representatives can make laws regarding their own customs, land, forests and so on. This, I think, will be the best way to safeguard the fragile ecology of the region."

The Sixth Schedule, which falls under Article 244, provides for the formation of Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) that enjoy some administrative, judicial, and legislative autonomy in the state.&nbsp;

Almost 30 members constitute these ADCs and serve a tenure of five years during which they are free to make rules, laws and regulations regarding agriculture, water, forest, health, sanitation, land, village councils, social customs, marriage and divorce, inheritance, town- and village-level policing, mining, etc.

Sonam Wangchuk was known for his education reforms and innovations in the tough terrains of Ladakh. However, he shot to fame when Bollywood actor Aamir Khan played the role of Phunsukh Wangdu in the movie 3 Idiots based on him.&nbsp;

Sixth schedule will ensure democracy at grassroot level, says Wangchuk Wangchuk said that through this agitation they only want to resume the broken talks with the government regarding their four-point agenda - which clearly demands Ladakh's statehood, its inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, separate Lok Sabha seats for Leh and Kargil districts and a public service commission for Ladakh. This, I think, will be the best way to safeguard the fragile ecology of the region." Also Read: Who is Sonam Wangchuk, the Ladakh activist detained in Delhi for 36 hours? The Sixth Schedule, which falls under Article 244, provides for the formation of Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) that enjoy some administrative, judicial, and legislative autonomy in the state. Sonam Wangchuk was known for his education reforms and innovations in the tough terrains of Ladakh. However, he shot to fame when Bollywood actor Aamir Khan played the role of Phunsukh Wangdu in the movie 3 Idiots based on him.

Is Sonam Wangchuk's protest over Sixth Schedule for Ladakh 'politically aligned'? Here's what he told WION

A new clinic is being launched in a hospital in Shanghai and it will be treating children who face difficulty in mathematics, in an innovative move.

In this clinic, the children will be provided a holistic treatment which will include administration of medication and a lively discussion on social media.

The Spatial and Mathematical Learning Difficulties Clinic will open at the Shanghai Children’s Medical Centre on October 8, as per the media reports.

<h2>How will this clinic operate and cure math-struggling students?</h2>

As per the introductory materials of the clinic, spatial cognitive ability is to be blamed for the struggle students are facing in tackling mathematics problems, especially geometry.

As per the neuroimaging studies, the students who struggle with geometry have decreased activity in the parietal area of the brain which is related to spatial reasoning.

The clinic further noted that deficits in imagination and spatial perception can affect the performance of students adversely in subjects like algebra, physics, and chemistry.

The mission of the clinic is to provide support for students who face problems in geometry and spatial problems in mathematics and also those who fail to understand complex topics such as magnetic and electric fields in physics and molecular structures and chemical reactions in chemistry.

The clinic charges a fee of 316 yuan (US$45) per patient and does not have any age restriction.&nbsp;

Every Tuesday morning, the clinic operates and it is fully booked for the month of October, as reported by the South China Morning Post.

<h2>Teachers react to the innovative clinic</h2>

Speaking about the clinic, senior math teacher Zhang Zeng supported the medical intervention.

“If we can accurately identify the reasons behind students’ weak spatial reasoning through precise medical analysis and make necessary adjustments, it will benefit their studies in mathematics,” Zhang said.

Meanwhile, another math teacher said, “There is a fundamental distinction between a math learning difficulty and an illness. Various factors contribute to poor performance in math, including ineffective methods, lack of interest, and low-quality teaching, but there are no physiological factors involved."

In a gripping memoir, a Canadian widow exposed the dark details of her life and confessed about eating the ashes of her late husband after finding out about his infidelity.&nbsp;

The husband of writer Jessica Waite, Sean, died in 2015 when he was on a work trip to Texas. After his death, the widow found that he had various affairs and also was involved with many high-priced escorts.&nbsp;

In the book, “A Widow’s Guide to Dead Bastards”, Waite recalled that she checked her porn-addicted husband’s iPad to find the number for the Houston hospital where his body was kept and found his unbelievable browsing history.

Waite stated that she began typing Houston in the browser and suggestions like “Houston escorts" started appearing.&nbsp;

Then she also discovered searches for specific escorts along with their locations and prices.

But this was just the start. It took months for the woman to find out everything about her deceased husband's secret life.&nbsp;

She found that he met escorts regularly and cheated on her several times with various women.

She also found that her husband lied about having work late at night and was actually busy downloading various pornographic videos on his personal computer which he had organised and categorised in various desktop folders.

The woman further found that her husband was also renting an apartment in Colorado to have sex with escorts and other women.

<h2>What did the woman do after finding out about her husband's secret life?</h2>

In the recently released book, Waite said that she failed to come to terms with the secret double life of her husband and slowly started losing it.

She said that she opened the bag of her husband's ashes and brought it to her garden where she mixed it with her dog’s faeces.

“I’ve desecrated the remains of my partner in life. But then, in despair and guilt, took more of his ashes — and actually ate them. The remains feel dry against my fingertips, coarser than baking powder, grainier than salt. They mix with the teary water, a mineral mud on the back of my tongue. I swallow," wrote Waite.

Waite said that she was “detached from reality in the wake of Sean’s death” in that moment.

“I feel better and stronger than before, but I still cry almost every day, and I still feel like a part of me has died. Because the part of me that existed within Sean did," she stated.

NASA issued a warning as it tracked a bus-sized&nbsp;asteroid, called 2024 TW2, which is set to make a close approach to&nbsp;Earth&nbsp;on October 7.&nbsp;

The space rock, which is almost 21 feet, is moving at a frightening speed of 60,968 km/h.&nbsp;

The asteroid's proximity to the Earth has been an issue of concern, however, NASA has assured that it will not pose any immediate danger to the planet.

According to NASA, asteroid 2024 TW2 will fly by Earth on October 7 at a distance of 288,000 kilometres, which is a little less than the average distance between the Moon and the Earth.

Asteroids like 2024 TW2 are part of the group of near-Earth objects (NEOs) which is monitored by NASA regularly.&nbsp;

Even though the speed and proximity of an asteroid are huge, its small size has little to no chance of causing any significant damage even if it enters the atmosphere of the Earth.&nbsp;

Such asteroids generally burn up upon entering the atmosphere of the Earth.
