In a marvellous capture, NASA's Curiosity rover has for the first time clicked the "sun rays" on Mars, the agency stated.

NASA said that the footage was captured on February 2 and showed the sun rays spread in the planet's atmosphere during the sunset. NASA stated that this is the first time they have captured the sun rays so clearly.

“Where we see iridescence, it means a cloud’s particle sizes are identical to their neighbours in each part of the cloud. By looking at colour transitions, we’re seeing particle size changing across the cloud. That tells us about the way the cloud is evolving and how its particles are changing size over time,” said Mark Lemmon, an atmospheric scientist, in a statement.

The Iranian government on Tuesday announced that few suspects have been arrested in the case of mystery poisonings of schoolgirls, which affected more than 5,000 students since late November.

On Monday, Iran's Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated that the perpetrators of the "unforgivable crime" must be tracked down "without mercy" as public anger continues to mount.

In a statement, the interior ministry on Tuesday said that "a number of people", who are suspected of producing hazardous substances, have been arrested in six provinces, which includes a pupil's parent.

Iran's Deputy Interior Minister Majid Mirahmadi on Tuesday said that several arrests have been made by the "intelligence agencies", "and the relevant agencies are conducting a full investigation".

Since late November, cases of poisoning were reported from multiple Iranian schools with people suffering from vertigo, nausea and shortness of breath, after complaining about "unpleasant" odours on school premises. Some of the girls have received treatment in the hospital.

"Twenty-five (out of 31) provinces and approximately 230 schools have been affected, and more than 5,000 schoolgirls and boys poisoned," said Mohammad-Hassan Asafari, the parliamentary fact-finding committee's member on Monday.

"Various tests are being carried out to identify the type and cause of the poisonings. So far, no specific information has been obtained regarding the type of poison used,” he added.

The cases of mystery poisonings have led to a wave of anger and have increased demand for action from the government authorities.

According to a statement from the interior ministry, arrests were made in West Azerbaijan, Kermanshah, Khorasan, Khuzestan, Fars and Alborz provinces.

“One of those arrested had allegedly used their child to insert the 'irritant' into the school, and then recorded videos of sick students which were sent to “hostile media" to "create fear... and close schools", the statement read.

The statement added that three suspects have been found with criminal records "including involvement in the recent riots", by which the Iranian authorities referred to the protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini in custody.

Amini, aged 22, was arrested by morality police over failure to follow the strict dress code for women and died in custody on September 16.

Two US citizens killed, two return alive in Mexico kidnapping case

Chelsea kept their season alive by beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League 2-1 on aggregate on Tuesday.

Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz, with a twice-taken penalty, got the goals as the Blues relieved the pressure on manager Graham Potter.

The Englishman's job was on the line after a season that has so far failed to deliver any return on a world-record injection of over £500 million ($600 million) in one season on new signings.

Chelsea had won just three of their previous 16 matches to fall to 10th in the Premier League and bow out early of both domestic cups.

But some of their expensive collection of stars showed up in time to remain in the hunt for a third European Cup.

Kick-off was delayed by 10 minutes after Dortmund got stuck in the heavy London traffic on arrival to the stadium.

Once the action got underway, Chelsea sped out of the blocks.

Alexander Meyer had to fly off his line to block from Joao Felix from a narrow angle before Havertz fired a big chance into the side netting.

Dortmund arrived in England on the back of a 10-game winning run in all competitions.

But the visitors posed barely any attacking threat in the first half bar a Marco Reus free-kick that Kepa Arrizabalaga did brilliantly to palm to safety.

Chances continued to come and go at the other end. Havertz smashed a volley off the inside of the post and then finally found the net via the underside of the bar only for the goal to be ruled out for an offside against Sterling earlier in the move.

The worst miss was to come as Kalidou Koulibaly miscued with an open goal from Ben Chilwell's free-kick and Felix's follow-up effort was blocked on the line.

Potter was uncharacteristically animated on the touchline as he constantly whipped the crowd up to keep pushing his side forward.

And the home fans finally had something to celebrate three minutes before half-time.

Sterling comes good

Sterling's first attempt was another one to forget as he swiped and missed Chilwell's low cross, but the England international composed himself to dribble past Reus and fire high into the net.

That was just Chelsea's third goal in the last eight games.

Havertz's penalty early in the second half meant Potter's men scored more than once for the first time since December 27, but the German international needed two spot-kicks to make his mark.

Marius Wolf was penalised for handling Chilwell's cross after a VAR review.

Havertz's first penalty came back off the post, but VAR came to Chelsea's rescue once more as Dortmund were further punished for encroaching.

There was no second reprieve as Havertz coolly slotted the ball the same way, this time finding the corner of the net.

Chelsea's spending spree may have ruled them out of the running for Jude Bellingham with the Dortmund midfielder expected to have his choice of Europe's top clubs this summer.

On his return to England, Bellingham was far from his best and missed a big chance to level the tie when he side-footed wide just before the hour mark.

Chelsea were guilty of trying to protect their advantage in the final quarter and relied on Kepa to bail them out as Wolf stung the palms of the Spaniard.

But they should have still added a third on the counter-attack as Sterling again failed to hold his run before squaring for Conor Gallagher to roll into an empty net.

Chelsea see off Dortmund to reach Champions League quarter-finals

Goncalo Ramos struck twice to help Benfica romp to a 5-1 Champions League last 16, second leg win over Club Brugge on Tuesday in Lisbon and a 7-1 aggregate victory.

Ramos, who shot to global fame during the World Cup when he was selected ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo for Portugal and netted a hat-trick against Switzerland, set up the opener for Rafa Silva.

The 21-year-old forward then produced two clinical finishes either side of half-time to ensure the two-time European Cup winners would reach the quarter-finals in consecutive seasons.

Joao Mario struck from the spot to score in his fifth consecutive Champions League match -- Portugal great Eusebio was the last player to manage the feat for the club.

David Neres added the fifth for Benfica before Bjorn Meijer netted a spectacular late consolation.

Roger Schmidt's ruthless side finished top of a group containing heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, and made light work of Scott Parker's knock-out stage novices.

Benfica have only been beaten twice all season across all competitions and dominated from the outset against the Belgian visitors.

Chiquinho, who has taken Enzo Fernandez's place in midfield after his Premier League record transfer move to Chelsea in January, returned from injury for the hosts.

Parker picked Ukrainian striker Roman Yaremchuk against his former side, pairing him with Noa Lang to try and spring an unlikely comeback.

Joao Mario, in sparking goalscoring form this season from midfield, netted after just two minutes with a glorious, flicked finish, but the goal was ruled out for an offside in the build-up.

The Portugal midfielder was then foiled by Meijer, who hacked his goal-bound effort off the line.

Eventually the hosts took the lead at the Estadio da Luz through Silva after 38 minutes, picked out well in the box by Ramos.

Silva showed good close control to dig out some space and a deft finish to beat former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Ramos steered home the second just before the break after being teed up by Joao Mario.

He netted a brace on Friday against Famalicao to help the Portuguese league leaders maintain an eight-point advantage and was decisive in the box yet again.

Ruthless romp

Ramos surged inside from the left before firing back across himself into the bottom corner, leaving Mignolet with no chance, notching his 22nd goal of the season across all competitions.

Close behind him on 20 is Joao Mario, enjoying the best goalscoring season of his career by a distance.

The 30-year-old midfielder slashed a volley narrowly off target early in the second half.

Brugge, who have now won just two of their last 17 games, were a surprise package in the group phase and helped eliminate Atletico Madrid, but were picked apart by the Eagles.

Ramos netted his second before the hour mark with a clinical first-time finish from Alex Grimaldo's low cross.

Then Joao Mario's coolly taken penalty added sheen to the scoreline after Abakar Sylla clumsily fouled Gilberto.

It was the midfielder's sixth goal of the tournament, pulling him level with Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior as the third top scorer, although five have come from the spot.

Neres slotted home the fifth on a bruising night for Parker and his team, who pulled one back through Meijer, as Benfica proved they will be no pushovers in the next round.

Ruthless romp Ramos surged inside from the left before firing back across himself into the bottom corner, leaving Mignolet with no chance, notching his 22nd goal of the season across all competitions. WATCH | WION Sports: UEFA Champions League 2022/23 season preview It was the midfielder's sixth goal of the tournament, pulling him level with Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior as the third top scorer, although five have come from the spot. Neres slotted home the fifth on a bruising night for Parker and his team, who pulled one back through Meijer, as Benfica proved they will be no pushovers in the next round. According to a recent global study, the United Kingdom has left behind Canada, Germany and Australia to become one of the most socially liberal nations of the world on the issues of divorce and abortion.

In the last five years, Britons have moved further towards acceptance of casual sex, prostitution and homosexuality, the World Values Survey stated, which is a progression from saying earlier that these practices are justifiable.

The survey by the Policy Institute at King’s College London is focused on 24 nations across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Americas, accounting for around half of the population of the world.

The UK ranked at the top among the four nations which consider matters like casual sex, euthanasia, divorce, abortion, and suicide. Swedes have emerged as the most liberal people on abortion and divorce, the French have liberal thoughts on suicide, and Germans are liberal about euthanasia.

“What were once pressing moral concerns – things like homosexuality, divorce and casual sex – have become simple facts of life for much of the public,” said Prof Bobby Duffy, the Policy Institute's director.

“This mostly isn’t just driven by younger generations replacing older generations. All generations have changed their views significantly,” he added.

Speaking about the issue of executions, Duffy said that the enthusiasm of the British for the death penalty had softened in recent years, but the matter remains bound up with political identities, “with Conservative voters much more supportive of capital punishment [67 per cent said it was at least potentially justifiable] than Labour voters [47 per cent], which helps explain why it continues to be brought up in political discussions”.

The controversial and disgraced South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh's brother Randy Murdaugh, in his first interview since Alex was declared guilty of killing his own wife and son, claimed that his brother was always a thief and liar, however, his being a convicted killer is still unbelievable.

While speaking to the New York Times, Randy said that he is still unsure if Alex actually killed his son and wife in June 2021. Randy added that although he respects the verdict of the jury, still he has known Alex as a protective husband and father.

“He knows more than what he’s saying,” stated Randy, referring to the chances of Alex lying about the killing. “He’s not telling the truth, in my opinion, about everything there,” he added.

Randy stated that he is not close to Alex, although the two of them went to the same law school and college and worked together at the family's law firm.

“It’s not like there was some problem with our relationship, necessarily. We just really weren’t alike, so we didn’t do stuff together,” he added.

Randy further recalled how Alex had admitted to stealing after he was confronted about financial records which showed he had embezzled millions from the business.

Soon after, Alex hired someone to shoot him, hoping that his surviving son Buster will be able to claim his life insurance money.

Randy had stopped speaking to Alex, who faces the charge of stealing more than $8 million from the family business.

Randy Murdaugh said that the family had to deal with uncertainty, considering the crime's gruesome nature and the understanding of Alex that they had.

Alex Murdaugh lying about the murder, claims brother Randy

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Tuesday promised to resolve the issue of illegal migrants within weeks as per the new plan to stop people from illegally crossing the Channel on small boats.

Sunak was speaking after the Conservative government unveiled proposals barring illegal migrants entry into the country, as the government acknowledged were stretching international law amid protests from rights campaigners.

Last year, England recorded the arrival of more than 45,000 migrants on the shores on small boats, which was a jump of 60 per cent.

As per the draft law, anyone who will arrive in the UK illegally will not be allowed to claim asylum, Sunak said at a news conference.

"If you come here illegally, you can't claim asylum. You can't benefit from our modern slavery protections. You can't make spurious human rights claims and you can't stay," he added.

"We will detain those who come here illegally and then remove them in weeks, either to their own country if it is safe to do so. Or to a Safe Third Country like Rwanda and once you are removed, you will be banned as you are in America and Australia from ever re-entering our country," he stated.

As per the draft law, interior minister Suella Braverman will be assigned the task of deporting all migrants entering illegally.

"The current situation is neither moral nor sustainable. It cannot go on. And it's devastatingly unfair on those who most need our help, but can't get it as our asylum system is being overwhelmed by those travelling illegally across the channel," Sunak said.

In the parliament, Right-winger Braverman said that she was "confident that this bill is compatible with international obligations", despite earlier accepting that it "pushed the boundaries of international law".

Stop the boats | Illegal migrants to be detained and deported, says Sunak

Two passengers were killed and several others suffered injuries in a train accident in Cairo on Tuesday, said the health ministry of Egypt after the latest rail tragedy in the country.

The ministry, in its statement, said that there were "two dead in the train accident at Qalyub, while the injured are in stable condition."

The train accident took place in Qalyub, which is located north of Cairo in the Nile Delta.

The national rail authority of Egypt said that the accident happened when a passenger train while entering Qalyub station, ran through a stop signal.

"That led to the derailment of the locomotive and the first carriage," the authority said in a statement. The pictures from the site of the accident showed the responders moving towards rail cars.

The officials said that an investigation into the cause of the accident is being carried out. Around 20 ambulances were sent to the accident site and the injured passengers were admitted to nearby hospitals, said health authorities.

A perimeter was formed by the police to hold back the people who had perched on the nearby walls. Later, a crane was brought to lift a derailed car which looked partially crumpled.

The rail accidents in Egypt have been blamed on poor maintenance and infrastructure.

Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir, in April 2021, fired the head of the rail authority after an uproar over the dilapidated train lines' mismanagement.

"The goal of these decisions is not merely about leadership changes of the authority but are in line with the next stage which demands... a complete upgrade of the railway network," the transport ministry had stated at the time.
