India to mint ₹75 coin to mark inauguration of new Parliament. Here's how it will look

In another major setback to the ambitious Project Cheetah, two more cubs lost their lives inside Kuno National Park in the Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh in central India. The cubs died just two days after another cub had lost his life.

The increasing deaths of cheetahs in the Kuno National Park have escalated worries over Project Cheetah's future in India. The cubs were found to be weak, underweight and poorly hydrated, said officials.

Speaking about their deaths, South African wildlife expert Vincent van der Merwe said that there will be an increase in the mortality rate of these cheetahs in the coming months amid their reintroduction, PTI reported.

The expert added that there are chances of cheetahs' mortality rate increasing by 50 per cent in the first year. “We anticipate a 50 per cent mortality in the first year, we know that only 10 are going to survive the initial release period. There's going to be more than enough prey for them,” he added.

According to the expert, there will be more deaths as the big cats will make attempts to establish territories and in these efforts, they will encounter tigers and leopards inside the national park.

He further added that the recent deaths of cheetahs have occurred within the acceptable range. However, he added that the killing of female cheetahs by males during mating was uncalled for.

What can India do to save cheetahs?

The wildlife expert stated that the habitats should be fenced so that access to resources by other animals can be controlled and the overall threat to these cheetahs can be reduced.

He added that the reintroduction of cheetahs has never been successful in an unfenced reserve. Merwe further said that at least two to three cheetahs should be brought to Mukundra Hills where they can breed.

"Mukundra Hills is fully fenced. We know that cheetahs will do very well there. The only problem is that it's not fully stocked at the moment. So you'll have to bring in some black buck and chinkara. And when the fencing is completed at Nauradehi and Gandhisagar, we will have three fenced reserves and then we are absolutely winning," he added.

As per Yadav, the couple had married in May 1979 and the behaviour of his wife changed after some time and she was unwilling to cohabit with him.
Russia-Ukraine war may continue for decades, says Putin ally Dmitry Medvedev

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz says he plans to speak to Russian President Vladimir Putin "in due course", holding out the prospect of resuming contact after a near-total breakdown in relations since the Ukraine war.

"My last telephone call was some time ago," Scholz told the Koelner Stadt-Anzeiger newspaper in an interview published Friday. "But I plan to speak to Putin again in due course."

The leaders last spoke by telephone in early December.

During that hour-long call, Scholz urged Putin to withdraw Moscow's troops from Ukraine, while the Russian leader accused the West of pursuing "destructive" policies.

Since then, tensions have only escalated between Moscow and Berlin, particularly over the decision by Scholz's government in January to allow German-made heavy battle tanks to be sent to Ukraine.

ALSO READ | Germany, world’s fourth-largest economy, enters recession

In the interview, Scholz insisted that his aim remained to "actively support Ukraine", but "at the same to prevent a direct conflict between NATO and Russia".

"And never to act alone, but in close coordination with our friends and allies," he said.

Asked about the prospect of halting the conflict through negotiations, Scholz said that Putin had to understand that the war could not be ended by making "some kind of cold peace".

"For instance, by turning the current front line into the new 'border' between Russia and Ukraine," he said.

"Rather it is about a fair peace, and the prerequisite for that is the withdrawal of Russian troops," he added.

Ties between Russia and Germany plunged into a deep freeze after Moscow sent its forces into Ukraine in February last year.

The invasion, and Moscow's move to slash gas supplies to Europe, hit Germany particularly hard as the country had come to rely on inexpensive Russian energy to power its economy.

The conflict has prompted Germany to drop a traditionally pacifist stance, with Berlin sending a barrage of weaponry to help Kyiv in its fight against Moscow.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz says he plans to speak to Russian President Vladimir Putin "in due course", holding out the prospect of resuming contact after a near-total breakdown in relations since the Ukraine war.

"But I plan to speak to Putin again in due course." The leaders last spoke by telephone in early December. ALSO READ | Germany, world’s fourth-largest economy, enters recession In the interview, Scholz insisted that his aim remained to "actively support Ukraine", but "at the same to prevent a direct conflict between NATO and Russia". WATCH | South Korea, Germany to strengthen solidarity in Europe, Asia Ties between Russia and Germany plunged into a deep freeze after Moscow sent its forces into Ukraine in February last year.
A passenger suddenly opened the emergency door of an Asiana Airlines flight when it was attempting to land in Daegu, South Korea on Friday afternoon, as the wind gushed into the plane’s cabin and terrified passengers clutched their armrests.
The video of the scary incident is being widely shared on social media platforms. An airline official informed that a man in his 30s, who was sitting in the emergency seat, opened the door when the flight was about 700 feet (213 meters) above the ground and around two to three minutes away from landing in the city, which is 150 miles (240 kilometres) south of Seoul.

Tina Turner, the growling songstress whose explosive stage presence electrified fans the world over, left an indelible mark on 20th-century rock with five decades of hits -- first with husband Ike Turner, but most memorably as a wildly successful solo act.

The Black eight-time Grammy winner lit up the stage from the 1960s onwards -- and won a new generation of fans in a stunning comeback after escaping her violent marriage, making her popular music's ultimate survivor.

Abandoned by her parents, Turner emerged from Tennessee's cotton fields to become the "Queen of Rock and Roll" who, according to music lore, taught Mick Jagger how to dance - and the Rolling Stones frontman led the flood of tributes Wednesday, following the superstar's death at the age of 83.

The singer of "The Best" died in Switzerland, where she lived her final years with husband Erwin Bach, a former record label executive who was her romantic partner for three decades before they wed in 2013.

Long before she snowballed into a global phenomenon, Turner's early career -- originally as a soul and R&B siren -- was a roller coaster for the singer, who admitted attempting suicide at the height of Ike's physical and emotional abuse.

Tina fled Ike in 1976, dashing across a highway to escape during a concert tour. Her divorce was finalized in 1978, and she was left with nothing but her stage name.

But the rock star dream still gnawed at her.

"How can I fill stadiums?" Turner wondered, in comments played during her 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.

"I wanted it. I wanted to do what Jagger and all the other guys at the time was doing."

Those dreams were fulfilled, and then some, when she struck crossover gold with her 1984 album "Private Dancer," whose Grammy-winning smash single "What's Love Got to Do With It" propelled her to superstardom at age 44.

Four years later, she set the record for largest paying attendance of a performance by a solo artist when her Rio concert crowd topped 180,000.

As a Black woman who embraced rock over 1950s doo-wop and 1960s Motown, Turner was a double outsider. But she wrote -- and then rewrote -- the rule book for women in the genre.

"A Black woman owning the stage all by herself: that's the dream right there," singer and rapper Lizzo said of Turner.

Turner sold more than 100 million records worldwide, according to Billboard, and paved the way for performers like Janet Jackson, Madonna and Beyonce.

"I never in my life saw a woman so powerful, so fearless, so fabulous," Beyonce told Turner from the Kennedy Center stage in a 2005 Tina tribute. "And those legs!"

She and her sister grew up in a family of modest means but conditions worsened when they were abandoned by their father, and then their mother.

When the grandmother who helped raise them died, Anna Mae moved in with relatives in St. Louis, Missouri at age 16.

There she met Ike Turner, a guitarist and bandleader eight years her senior who had already tasted fame, having written and recorded what was arguably the first rock and roll record, "Rocket 88," in 1951.

She convinced Ike to let her sing with him.

When he scored a 1960 hit with her lead vocals on "A Fool in Love," he gave her the stage name Tina Turner, and the pair performed as the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. By 1962, they were married.

From early on, Tina was the fiery, dominant presence, stealing the limelight with a blend of thick, textured vocals, haunting howls and mesmerizing dance moves.

The Turner oeuvre reflected their personal tensions: it included "I Idolize You," "It's Gonna Work Out Fine," and their most famous number, a 1970 cover of "Proud Mary," in which Tina purrs about starting the song "nice and easy," but finishing it "nice and rough."

Even as she exuded raw sexual power as a performer, her singing was tinged with a palpable vulnerability.

"You sing with those emotions because you've had pain in your heart," Turner told Rolling Stone magazine in 1986.

After leaving Ike, she toiled in Las Vegas shows, released modestly selling solo records and toured heavily in Europe.

But with the success of 1984's "Private Dancer," her metamorphosis from manipulated co-star to resurrected rock goddess was complete.

The next year, she was onstage at Live Aid in Philadelphia for a memorable encounter with Jagger, who ripped off Turner's black leather miniskirt mid-performance, revealing her in fishnet stockings and a leotard.

Turner grinned and ran fingers through her lion's mane of hair.

She starred opposite Mel Gibson in a Hollywood blockbuster, "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome;" co-wrote a best-selling autobiography, "I, Tina;" and was the subject of a feature film, "What's Love Got To Do With It" starring Angela Bassett.

'A way out'

In the revealing 2021 HBO documentary "Tina," an uncomfortable reality emerges: her past trauma had become a focus for interviewers, with the star repeatedly asked to recount her life's worst moments.

Turner, who had embraced Buddhism and saw it as "a way out" of her dangerous first marriage, pointed to the faith as a catalyst for rejuvenation and stability.

She often swatted away probing questions, once saying reliving the past was like a "curse."

But personal hardships were impossible to ignore, including the violence from Ike.

"He used my nose as a punching bag so many times that I could taste blood running down my throat when I sang," she wrote in her 2018 memoir, "My Love Story."

In life after Ike, her concerts became glitzy spectacles -- and she kept the high-octane rock flowing for decades.

A Wembley Stadium concert in 2000 saw a 60-year-old Turner holding nothing back, grinding across the stage in stiletto heels and her trademark leather miniskirt.

In 2008, she embarked on her Tina! - 50th Anniversary Tour, which grossed some $130 million.

The grande dame enjoyed her later years with Bach in their Zurich home and a vacation mansion near the French Riviera, although tragedy struck in 2018 when Turner's eldest son Craig, from her early union with saxophonist Raymond Hill, committed suicide at 59.

Ike Turner died in 2007, and his one child with Tina, Ronnie, died last year at 62 of complications from colon cancer.

In 2013, after marrying Bach and taking Swiss nationality, Turner relinquished her US citizenship -- but the former president Barack Obama was among those who paid the most poignant tributes.

"Tina Turner was raw. She was powerful. She was unstoppable," he wrote. "And she was unapologetically herself -- speaking and singing her truth through joy and pain; triumph and tragedy."

"I know, it's only rock and roll but I like it!" she belted out. WATCH | 'A way out' In the revealing 2021 HBO documentary "Tina," an uncomfortable reality emerges: her past trauma had become a focus for interviewers, with the star repeatedly asked to recount her life's worst moments. Turner, who had embraced Buddhism and saw it as "a way out" of her dangerous first marriage, pointed to the faith as a catalyst for rejuvenation and stability. She often swatted away probing questions, once saying reliving the past was like a "curse." But personal hardships were impossible to ignore, including the violence from Ike. "He used my nose as a punching bag so many times that I could taste blood running down my throat when I sang," she wrote in her 2018 memoir, "My Love Story." In life after Ike, her concerts became glitzy spectacles -- and she kept the high-octane rock flowing for decades.
United Kingdom's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is being appealed to either cancel or delay Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list through which dozens of his allies will be rewarded in the wake of the former prime minister facing a police investigation over fresh Partygate allegations.

Labour and the Lib Dems stated that the prime minister should pull the list containing around 50 names which are likely to get approved and can be published in the next two weeks.

The plan of honouring Johnson’s allies has now become more controversial after his pandemic diaries were passed by the Cabinet Office to two police forces over concerns about potential rule breaches during Covid.

The documents include a dozen events which were hosted at the prime minister’s grace-and-favour mansion, Chequers, and No 10. The events were held between June 2020 and May 2021. The documents were handed by Johnson to his government-appointed lawyers. Since the lawyers were being paid by the Cabinet Office, they also received the diaries and they decided that the matter should be referred to the police under the civil service code.
