<p>Venice is set to start the long-debated ticketing system, on a trial basis, from spring next year, said officials on Tuesday (September 5), which will make it compulsory for day-trippers to pay five euros for entering the historic centre of the Italian city. The step is being taken to decrease the number of tourists flocking the city.<br />
<br />
The move was supported by the council executive just weeks after Venice was recommended by the UN cultural agency UNESCO to be included in its list of world heritage in danger, especially because of the negative impact of mass tourism.<br />
<br />
"Regulating tourist flows in certain periods is necessary, but that does not mean closing the city," stated Mayor Luigi Brugnaro. "Venice will always be open to everyone,” he added.</p>

North Korea is likely to face consequences for providing weapons to Russia in its war against Ukraine, warned a top White House official on Tuesday, amid reports of Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un holding weapon talks.

North Korea is likely to face consequences for providing weapons to Russia in its war against Ukraine, warned a top White House official on Tuesday, amid reports of Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un holding weapon talks. "They will pay a price for this in the international community," said US President Joe Biden's National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, while speaking to the reporters. As per reports, sanctions-hit Russia has been hoping to get more military supplies from its ally to strengthen its forces as a highly scrutinised counteroffensive was pushed by Kyiv to take back its territory. ALSO READ | North Korea's Kim Jong Un to visit Putin in Russia for discussion on weapons supply Sullivan stated that Moscow and Pyongyang were eyeing "leader-level discussions, perhaps even in person" on the arms needs of Russia. He added that weapons can be taken from North Korea and used by Russia to attack food supplies and heating infrastructure as winter approaches to "try to conquer territory that belongs to another sovereign nation". "This is not going to reflect well on North Korea and they will pay a price for this in the international community," he stated. Sullivan said that it "says a lot that Russia is having to turn to a country like North Korea." Russian Defence Minister's visit to North Korea In July, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu visited North Korea seeking to acquire additional munitions for the ongoing war, said the White House. The Kremlin on Tuesday said that it has not been able to confirm a summit between Kim and Putin. "We have nothing to say on this," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. WATCH | Russia behind North Korea's ICBM programme? | WION Fineprint Shoigu on Monday said that Russia has been considering holding joint military drills with North Korea. "Why not? They are our neighbours," he said, as quoted by the TASS news agency. Last week, the United States warned that Russia has been engaged in secret talks with North Korea to acquire a range of munitions and supplies for the war effort of Moscow. Kim is likely to board an armoured train from Pyongyang to Vladivostok on the Pacific Coast of Russia, where he is set to meet Putin, said the New York Times. The two leaders will be present on the campus of Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok to attend the Eastern Economic Forum, which is scheduled to run from September 10 to 13, as per the officials. Kim is also likely to visit Pier 33, where naval ships from the Pacific fleet of Russia dock, officials stated. The anniversary of its founding is celebrated by North Korea on September 9. North Korea will pay 'price' for supplying arms to Russia: US

<p>Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on Tuesday (September 5) said that new attacks were carried out "very, very close" to its border by neighbouring Ukraine, as Russia has been repeatedly launching drone strikes on infrastructure in Danube, southern Ukraine.<br />
<br />
"We had attacks just today, the minister of defence told me, which were verified at 800 metres (2,600 feet) from our border. So very, very close," said Iohannis, while speaking in a joint press conference with Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel.<br />
<br />
The NATO member on Monday had refuted Kyiv's claims that Iranian-made Russian drones dropped and detonated inside the Romanian territory amid a strike carried out on the Ukrainian port of Izmail.<br />
<br />
"There was no piece, and no drone and no other part of any device that made it to Romania," said Iohannis at the press conference on Tuesday (September 5), echoing the defence ministry's comments on Monday.<br />
<br />
"But yes, we are concerned because these attacks are taking place within a very short distance from the Romanian border," Iohannis stated while addressing from the Cincu military base located in central Romania.</p>

<p>Novak Djokovic powered into a record 47th Grand Slam semi-final on Tuesday with a 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 win over American ninth seed Taylor Fritz at the US Open.</p>

<p>Djokovic continues his push for a record-extending men's 24th Grand Slam title in the last four against another home player, either 10th seed Frances Tiafoe or the up-and-coming Ben Shelton.</p>

<p>The 36-year-old Djokovic is through to the semi-finals in New York for the 13th time and is now 12-0 against Americans at the US Open.</p>

<p>"It's a huge opportunity every single time I step out onto the court at this age, at this stage of my life," said Djokovic, who broke the mark he shared with Roger Federer for most major semi-final appearances.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I don't know how many more opportunities I'll get so I'm trying to enjoy it as much as I can."</p>

<p>"I've played so many times on this court, so many epic matches. I can't wait for another in a few days' time," added the three-time US Open champion.</p>

<p>He made it eight wins in as many matches with Fritz, who had pushed Djokovic to five sets in their previous Grand Slam meeting but barely made a dent in the Serbian star's armoury Tuesday.</p>

<p>Djokovic saved a break point in the first game but swiftly gained control on a sweltering afternoon, with the roof partially closed on Arthur Ashe Stadium to shield the players from the sun.</p>

<p>Fritz had lost just serve just once through four rounds en route to his first US Open quarter-final, but Djokovic broke him three times in succession to pocket the first set with ease.</p>

<p>Fritz, whose mother Kathy May reached the last eight here in 1978, finally held to start the second set, only briefly slowing Djokovic's charge.</p>

<p>Djokovic again broke for a 2-1 cushion and foiled Fritz the following game when the American generated four break points but was unable to penetrate his rival's ironclad defences.</p>

<p>The early break sufficed for Djokovic to surge two sets in front as he hammered an ace on set point.</p>

<p>Fritz had another whiff at 15-40 on Djokovic's serve in the sixth game of the third set, his inability to capitalise growing even costlier when the Serbian broke to edge closer to the finish line.</p>

<p>Fritz hit right back when an agitated Djokovic speared a forehand wide, but a woefully loose next game from the American spelled the end of the road as Djokovic eventually served out for victory.</p>

'Here to watch Asia Cup matches....': BCCI VP Rajeev Shukla in Lahore

<p>Steve Harwell, a founding member and former leader of the US rock band Smash Mouth, known for its hit songs "All Star" and "Walkin' on the Sun," died Monday at age 56, his agent said.</p>

<p>Harwell, who left the group in 2021 for health reasons and had been in hospice care in recent days, died at his home in Boise, Idaho "surrounded by family and friends," Smash Mouth manager Robert Hayes told Rolling Stone magazine.</p>

<p>Hayes said the cause of death was liver failure.</p>

<p>Harwell was a singer who founded Smash Mouth in California in 1994 along with Kevin Coleman on drums, Greg Camp on guitar, and Paul De Lisle playing bass.</p>

<p>The group is still active and its style is described as a mix of pop, rock, ska and punk.</p>

<p>Smash Mouth shot to worldwide fame in 1997 with its album "Fush Yu Mang" and the hit song "Walkin' on the Sun."</p>

<p>"'Walkin' on the Sun' changed music," Harwell told Rolling Stone in 2019. "It changed the way people listen to music."</p>

<p>"It was so different and it was so unusual, and it was so special," he said. "It just had that sound that we created. Ask anybody that's tried to copy us, you can't. You just can't."</p>

<p>Two years later came the hit "All Star" on the album "Astro Lounge," a tune that was nominated for a Grammy and features on the soundtrack of the first "Shrek" movie -- about a loveable green ogre voiced by Mike Myers.</p>

<p>More than 25 cover versions of "All Star" have been done over the years, a sign of its popularity, and it has been streamed on Spotify nearly a billion times.</p>

<p>In a statement Hayes paid tribute to Harwell, saying "Steve's iconic voice is one of the most recognizable voices from his generation."</p>

<p>With Harwell as lead singer Smash Mouth sold 10 million records around the world, Hayes said.</p>

<p>Since the 2010s, Harwell suffered several health scares either in concert or while rehearsing and cited heart trouble when he left the group.</p>

<p>"Steve lived a 100 per cent full-throttle life. Burning brightly across the universe before burning out," Hayes said.</p>

Steve Harwell, a founding member and former leader of the US rock band Smash Mouth, known for its hit songs "All Star" and "Walkin' on the Sun," died Monday at age 56, his agent said.

Steve Harwell, a founding member and former leader of the US rock band Smash Mouth, known for its hit songs "All Star" and "Walkin' on the Sun," died Monday at age 56, his agent said. Harwell, who left the group in 2021 for health reasons and had been in hospice care in recent days, died at his home in Boise, Idaho "surrounded by family and friends," Smash Mouth manager Robert Hayes told Rolling Stone magazine. Hayes said the cause of death was liver failure. Harwell was a singer who founded Smash Mouth in California in 1994 along with Kevin Coleman on drums, Greg Camp on guitar, and Paul De Lisle playing bass. The group is still active and its style is described as a mix of pop, rock, ska and punk. Smash Mouth shot to worldwide fame in 1997 with its album "Fush Yu Mang" and the hit song "Walkin' on the Sun." "'Walkin' on the Sun' changed music," Harwell told Rolling Stone in 2019. "It changed the way people listen to music." "It was so different and it was so unusual, and it was so special," he said. "It just had that sound that we created. Ask anybody that's tried to copy us, you can't. You just can't." Two years later came the hit "All Star" on the album "Astro Lounge," a tune that was nominated for a Grammy and features on the soundtrack of the first "Shrek" movie -- about a loveable green ogre voiced by Mike Myers. More than 25 cover versions of "All Star" have been done over the years, a sign of its popularity, and it has been streamed on Spotify nearly a billion times. In a statement Hayes paid tribute to Harwell, saying "Steve's iconic voice is one of the most recognizable voices from his generation." With Harwell as lead singer Smash Mouth sold 10 million records around the world, Hayes said. Since the 2010s, Harwell suffered several health scares either in concert or while rehearsing and cited heart trouble when he left the group. "Steve lived a 100 per cent full-throttle life. Burning brightly across the universe before burning out," Hayes said. You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. Share your stories and opinions with us here. Romania denies reports of being hit amid Russian drone attack on Ukrainian port

<p>Pope Francis on Monday (September 4) accepted that his recent comments on Russia, which were perceived as praise for imperialism by Ukraine, were poorly phrased.</p>

<p>The pope stated that he intended to remind Russia's cultural heritage and not political one to its young citizens. While interacting with reporters aboard the plane on his way back from Mongolia, Francis stated that he wished to assure China, which has complicated relations with the Vatican, that the Catholic Church should not be considered a foreign power with any ulterior motives.</p>

<p>"I was not thinking of imperialism when I said that," said Francis, reacting to the comments he made last month. In a video conference held on August 25, Pope Francis talked about tsars Peter I and Catherine II, who had expanded Russian territory, and told the young Russian Catholics that they were the heirs of the "great Russian empire".</p>

<p>The remarks led to an uproar in Ukraine because the two Russian monarchs' legacies were invoked by Russian President Vladimir Putin while he was trying to justify the invasion of Ukraine.</p>

<p>"Maybe it wasn't the best way of putting it, but in speaking of the great Russia, I was thinking not so much geographically but culturally," said Francis, while referring to Russian literary icon Fyodor Dostoevsky.</p>

<p>"It was an off-the-cuff comment that came to mind because I studied it (Russian history) in school. Russian culture is of such beauty, such profoundness. It should not be cancelled because of political problems. There were dark political years in Russia but the heritage is there, available to all," he stated.</p>

<p>Speaking about the Vatican-China relations, Francis said: "I think we have to move forward in the religious aspect in order to understand each other better so that Chinese citizens do not think the Church does not accept their culture and their values and (do not think) that the Church represents another foreign power."</p>
