More than 100 container ships were rerouted near southern Africa so that they could avoid the Suez Canal. The step was taken amid global trade facing disruption due to attacks on vessels on Yemen’s western coast by the Houthi rebels.
The shipping company Kuehne and Nagel stated that they have identified 103 container ships which already changed their course and more of those ships are likely to go around South Africa’s Cape of Good Hope.

The diversion has added nearly 6,000 nautical miles to a typical journey of a container ship from Europe to Asia, which approximately extends the product delivery time by three or four weeks.

The Houthi rebels, who have remained aligned with Iran, have stated that the ships were attacked by them in response to bombardment by Israel over Gaza.

On Tuesday (Dec 19), the United States said that they would try leading a naval condition for protecting shipping in the Suez Canal.
The ships, which have diverted so far, had the capacity of carrying 1.3m 20ft (6-metre) containers, said Kuehne and Nagel. Few gas and oil tankers have also been diverted, with BP emerging as the biggest company to publicly state that it has taken the step.

The disruption in container ships' routes has contributed to inflation in oil prices.
Kuehne and Nagel’s board member for sea logistics Michael Aldwell said: “The extended time spent on the water is anticipated to absorb 20% of the global fleet capacity, leading to potential delays in the availability of shipping resources.
2023 has been a significant year for alien hunters who have been making efforts to find evidence of extraterrestrial life. From some studies suggesting that aliens are likely to have been sending signals from the centre of Milk Way to Harvard Professor Avi Loeb claiming that an unidentified space object (UFO) has crashed into the Pacific Ocean, the year has seen scientists trying to gather the tiniest proofs which hint at the existence of aliens.

But what emerged as breakthroughs were a whistleblower's claim of the United States possessing UFOs and non-human bodies and Mexico Congress displaying two alleged 'alien corpses', which sparked debates around the existence of extraterrestrial living beings.

US' ‘multi-decade’ programme to capture UFOs

In one of the most shocking claims ever made by a whistleblower, Retired Maj. David Grusch in the US Congress said that the country has a secretive programme which retrieves unidentified flying objects and reverse engineers them.

“I was informed in the course of my official duties of a multi-decade UAP crash retrieval and reverse engineering programme to which I was denied access,” he had said.
The story of whether aliens exist and if the US has UFOs in its possession took an interesting turn when two alleged 'alien corpses' were put on display in Mexico Congress in an unusual event, while the world wondered what these actually were. The corpses were said to have been retrieved from Cusco, Peru and are estimated to have been fossilised nearly 1,000 years ago.

Journalist and ufologist Jaime Maussan, who presented the corpses in windowed boxes, said, ''These specimens are not part of our terrestrial evolution… These aren't beings that were found after a UFO wreckage. They were found in diatom [algae] mines, and were later fossilised.''

He further informed Congress that the two corpses' DNA samples had been tested and compared to other samples after which it was found that nearly 30 per cent of their DNA specimen was ''unknown''. In the X-rays of the alien corpses, eggs were also seen present inside one of the bodies, which also had rare metal implants. It was also claimed that corpses did not have any lungs or ribs.

Reacting to Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee's action of mimicking Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, the MPs of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies staged a unique protest in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday (Dec 20) to express solidarity with the leader. India's Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said that NDA members will stand for an hour in the House to express support to Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Dhankhar. "We strongly condemn this. They are crossing all limits. They are repeatedly insulting people on constitutional posts. They have been insulting the Prime Minister for 20 years because he comes from a humble background and the OBC community. They insulted the President because she is a tribal woman. You are a farmer's son. For the first time, someone from the Jat community became Vice-President. They have insulted this post. We are making it clear, we will not tolerate the insult of the Vice-President and the Constitution," said Joshi. "...I don't care about how much you insult Jagdeep Dhankhar. In a rarely-heard incident, a woman narrated how she decided to quit her job after her coworkers treated her like a 'doormat' and later confessed that after leaving the office she changed everyone's passwords, leaving the entire office in jeopardy. The woman took to Reddit where she narrated how toxic was the work environment in her office and how she took sweet revenge on her boss after quitting. In the post, the woman disclosed that she changed the email password of her manager, which was important for the restaurant's operational data where she used to work. The story narrated by the woman became so popular that it was shared by Reddit on their Instagram page with the caption “Good for her", which followed the snapshots from the original post. However, the story also sparked discussions regarding her actions, which some felt were childish while others supported her. I can’t stress how awfully I was treated in this job, and how the entire team joined in on it. I was the only woman on the team so it could’ve been that but I don’t want to play the gender card. I was never rude to these guys. I’m not too fond of confrontation so I used to be a doormat. I was afraid to rock the boat, so I just accepted how I was treated.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Reddit (@reddit) × “One evening, I went home for the night and never went back.
NASA on Monday (Nov 18) said that they made use of a state-of-the-art laser communication system to send a high-definition cat video from a spaceship to the Earth, covering a distance of 31 million kilometres.
