Reviving the iconic panda diplomacy, China is planning&nbsp;to send a pair of giant pandas to the San Diego Zoo, months after all the iconic bears, taken on loan, were returned from US zoos amid souring relations between the two countries.&nbsp;

Speaking to The Associated Press, San Diego Zoo officials said that if all permits and requirements are approved, two pairs of bears, one male and one female, are likely to arrive in the zoo as early as the end of summer, nearly five years after the last pandas were sent back by the zoo to China.

Speaking about the return of bears, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance and vice president of Wildlife Conservation Science Megan Owen said, “We're very excited and hopeful. They've expressed a tremendous amount of enthusiasm to re-initiate panda cooperation starting with the San Diego Zoo.”

Chinese President Xi Jinping, during his US visit in November, had hinted at the return of pandas – calling them “envoys of friendship between the Chinese and American peoples".

China has been considering sending a pair of pandas, which includes a female descendent of Bai Yun and Gao Gao, who are former residents of the zoo, said Owen, who is an expert in panda behaviour and has worked in San Diego and China.

Gao Gao was born in the country's wild and lived at the San Diego Zoo from 2003 to 2018 before he was sent back.

<h2>Hiccups in US-China panda diplomacy</h2>

The early 1970s, which marked the 'ping-pong' diplomacy between the United States and China, saw the exchange of table tennis players between the countries as an effort to establish ties between the two countries.

It was the same diplomacy which paved the way for US President Richard Nixon's historic ice-breaking visit to Beijing in 1972, where for the first time a pair of pandas was gifted by Beijing to the Smithsonian National Zoo – marking the beginning of panda diplomacy.

Since then, pandas have become some kind of unofficial barometer of China and US relations. However, 2023 saw the collapse of the panda diplomacy between the two countries as the contract for lending these fur animals expired and was not renewed.

In November, the last three remaining pandas at the Smithsonian National Zoo were sent back to China. The departure of pandas from the United States appeared to be a sign of the significant shift in their complicated relationship where tension seemed to prevail over the&nbsp;adorable bears.

US-China panda diplomacy back on track as Beijing plans to send pandas to San Diego

A scientific paper, which was aimed at depicting the signalling pathway of sperm stem cells of a rodent, became a subject of widespread ridicule for depicting the wrong image and information of anatomically eye-watering appendage as well as four giant testicles.

In the image used in the research, the creature was labelled as a “rat” and it appeared sitting upright like a squirrel. The graphic was also filled with nonsensical words like “senctolic”, “testtomcels” and "dissilced”.

In the cut-away image, “sterrn cells” were shown in a Petri dish which was picked up with a spoon.

The research was published in the journal Frontiers in Cell and Development Biology, along with other absurd graphics, which were created using the AI tool Midjourney.

7 Side-Effects Of Consuming Excessive Vitamin C

Intake of vitamin C in high quantities leads to digestive issues like nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhoea.

Vitamin C consumption in high amounts also increases the risk of developing kidney stones, especially for those who have a history of kidney issues.

Excessive consumption of vitamin C disrupts the absorption of iron from plant-based sources.

A high amount of vitamin C interferes with metabolism and the absorption of vitamin B12.

If vitamin C is consumed in high amounts, especially in the form of chewable tablets, it can lead to dental issues like sensitivity and tooth decay.

Consuming vitamin C in huge amounts may also trigger headache or migraine.

Vitamin C in huge amounts imbalances antioxidants in the body and causes oxidative stress, thus damaging cells and tissues.

According to CNN, Biden wants&nbsp;his campaign aides to highlight Trump’s “crazy s***” to prove that he was not fit to come back as the president, months after Trump adopted similar tactics to disparage Biden.

“President Biden himself personally instructed some of his top campaign aides to be even more aggressive in highlighting some of President Trump‘s more inflammatory and wild comments,” claimed CNN reporter MJ Lee.&nbsp;

Biden asks campaign aides to focus on ‘crazy s*** that Trump says': Report

The World Food Programme's (WFP) "live-saving" food deliveries to northern Gaza have been paused as the agency claimed that aid convoys had had to go through "complete chaos and violence due to the collapse of civil order" while making those deliveries.

The UN agency claimed that the decision was taken after&nbsp;their crews faced gunfire, looting and crowds.&nbsp;

The United Nations had&nbsp;earlier issued a warning against looming famine in the north of Gaza since December. According to WFP, the latest reports are a proof of "precipitous slide into hunger and disease".

The Israeli military had given orders for the evacuation of 1.1 million Palestinian civilians from all areas north of Wadi Gaza and asked them to find shelter in the south at the start when the ground offensive of Israel started in October.&nbsp;

The evacuation area included Gaza City, which before the war started, was the territory's most densely populated area.

The WFP had earlier planned to begin a week-long delivery last weekend by sending 10 lorries every day to help "stem the tide of hunger and desperation".

However, on Sunday (Feb 18), as a convoy reached close to the Wadi Gaza checkpoint on its way north, it was "surrounded by crowds of hungry people" with "multiple attempts by people to climb aboard", and then on entering Gaza City faced gunfire, "high tension and explosive anger".

<h2>WFP claims 'witnessed unprecedented levels of desperation' in Gaza&nbsp;</h2>

The WFP claimed that in the last two days, its teams had "witnessed unprecedented levels of desperation" in the Gaza Strip.

"Food and safe water have become incredibly scarce and diseases are rife, compromising women's and children's nutrition and immunity and resulting in a surge of acute malnutrition. People are already dying from hunger-related causes," it said.

A joint report issued by the WFP and the UN's children's agency UNICEF on Monday found that the the situation was "particularly extreme" in the north of Gaza.

Nutrition screenings conducted at shelters and health centres in the north found that more than 15% of children under two years of age were "acutely malnourished", the WFP said.

The agency has claimed that they will find ways to soon resume deliveries in a "responsible manner" and appealed for a major expansion of aid to northern Gaza.&nbsp;

The agency said that this would need significantly higher volumes of food entering Gaza from different routes and demanded the opening of crossing points between Israel and northern Gaza.

"Gaza is hanging by a thread and WFP must be enabled to reverse the path towards famine for thousands of desperately hungry people," it said.

Israel-Hamas war: World Food Programme pauses food deliveries to northern Gaza

An unknown event occurred in a distant galaxy some eight billion years ago which sent a very powerful blast of radio waves across the universe.

Now, after travelling for eight billion years, the radio signals finally reached Earth on June 10 only to last less than a thousandth of a second. However, a radio telescope installed in Australia somehow was able to pick up the signal.

The flash, which took place in the cosmos eight billion years ago and has now been detected, was a fast radio burst (FRB), which is a little-understood phenomenon first found in 2007.&nbsp;

The astronomers found that this specific FRB was more powerful and came from a much farther place which has not been recorded yet. It was also determined that the cosmic event occurred when the universe was less than half its current age.&nbsp;

<h2>Scientists are clueless on what causes FRBs</h2>

Astronomers have till now not been able to find what exactly leads to FRBs, making them one of the greatest astronomical mysteries.&nbsp;

A lot of theories have been given to scientists to explain its occurrence with a Harvard University professor even suggesting that the radio signals might be signs of alien life, CBS News reported.&nbsp;

However, distant dead stars - known as magnetars - are held as prime suspects by the scientists, since they are the most magnetic objects in the universe.

Astrophysicist at Australia's Swinburne University, Ryan Shannon, while speaking to AFP, said that it was "mind-blowing" that the radio burst was spotted by the ASKAP radio telescope in Western Australia last year.

"We were lucky to be looking at that little spot in the sky for that one millisecond after the eight billion years the pulse had travelled to catch it," said Shannon, &nbsp;who was also co-author of a study which spoke about the find in the journal Science.

He said that this specific FRB easily defeated the previous record holder which was only five billion light years away.

According to him, the radio signal's pulse was very powerful and it released the same amount of energy which the sun emits over 30 years.

Shannon did not deny the possibility of hundreds of thousands of FRBs flashing across the sky every day.

However, even though thousands of them have been detected till now, scientists have just managed&nbsp;to figure out&nbsp;where 50 of them came from.

The researchers decided to use the Very Large Telescope in Chile to understand where the latest radio burst, known as FRB 20220610A, came from.

This came from the signal which originated from a particularly clumpy galaxy which may have merged with one or two other galaxies and hence, created the bizarre magnetar.

The flash, which took place in the cosmos eight billion years ago and has now been detected, was a fast radio burst (FRB), which is a little-understood phenomenon first found in 2007. The astronomers found that this specific FRB was more powerful and came from a much farther place which has not been recorded yet. It was also determined that the cosmic event occurred when the universe was less than half its current age. A lot of theories have been given to scientists to explain its occurrence with a Harvard University professor even suggesting that the radio signals might be signs of alien life, CBS News reported. Radio waves that took 8 billion years to reach Earth hint at signs of alien life: Expert

A huge, wave-shaped structure, which extended some 9,000 light-years in length and curled around the Milky Way's spiral arm, was first found by scientists a few years ago.&nbsp;

The wave, called as Radcliffe Wave, was a line of star-forming gas and its discovery by scientists was remarkable. However, now removing one of the clouds from this mysterious cosmic serpent, scientists have found that it is moving in our galaxy.&nbsp;

A team of scientists, headed by astrophysicist Ralf Konietzka of Harvard University, have now discovered that the Radcliffe Wave, just like other objects in the Milky Way, is in motion.&nbsp;

Scientists have also discovered that the wave is not moving in an orbital motion around the galactic centre but is oscillating as a periodic travelling wave.

"By using the motion of baby stars born in the gaseous clouds along the Radcliffe Wave," said Konietzka, adding, "we can trace the motion of their natal gas to show that the Radcliffe Wave is actually waving."

<h2>Scientists used data collected by Gaia to discover Radcliffe Wave</h2>

Spacecraft Gaia has been collecting information on the three-dimensional properties of the Milky Way, using which the scientists mapped the galaxy and discovered the Radcliffe Wave in 2018. The findings were published by the scientists in 2020 after putting together the structure's 3D map.&nbsp;

The researchers, while going through the information, discovered that the structure has been undulating like a giant cosmic serpent which is winding through the Milky Way.&nbsp;

In its calculations, the team also found that the motion can be influenced by gravity which is produced by the galaxy's normal matter.

The measurements of the team also suggested that the supernovae, which eventually cleared the bubble of space in which the Milky Way is present, were born in a cluster of stars inside the Radcliffe Wave.

"The question is, what caused the displacement giving rise to the waving we see?" said astronomer Alyssa Goodman of Harvard University.&nbsp;

He added, "And does it happen all over the galaxy? In all galaxies? Does it happen occasionally? Does it happen all the time?"&nbsp;

"Upcoming deep and wide surveys of stars, dust and gas will likely uncover more wave-like structures," wrote the researchers, adding, "and measurements of their motions should provide insights into the star formation histories and gravitational potentials of galaxies."

A former FBI informant, who has been charged with lying regarding the dealings of US President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden in Ukraine, has told investigators that Russian intelligence officials had passed on that information to him.&nbsp;

The claims were made by the informant after his arrest, said the prosecutors in a new court filing on Tuesday (Feb 20), noting that the information was false.

In a major breakthrough, the scientists have successfully grown the world's first pair of “laboratory testicles” at Israel’s Bar-Ilan University&nbsp;while trying to find a way to ease male infertility which affects 10 per cent to 15 per cent of men in the United States.

Scientists have produced tiny and artificial organs using cells which were extracted from mouse testes. The organs are reported to resemble the natural mouse testicles and also function like them.&nbsp;

The researchers, headed by Dr Nitzan Gonen, had aimed at developing human-like testicles using human stem cells which may help in treating infertility and developmental sex disorders.&nbsp;

"Fertility clinics are able to identify some of the problems that cause male infertility — a low sperm count or an abnormal structure — but we don’t understand fully what causes this, which genome mutations led to the condition, or what went wrong in the testicle’s functioning, as a result of which the tubes do not carry the sperm well,” said Gonen, while speaking to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz last week.

Organoids, which are three-dimensional miniature versions of immature organs and resemble kidneys, brains and intestines, from stem cells, have already been generated by biologists.

The researchers found that the procedure had succeeded after they noticed tubule-like structures and cellular organisation which appeared similar to those present in vivo testis.

According to the report, the artificial mouse testicles were able to function well for nine weeks, which is considered sufficient time for sperm generation and release to occur in a mouse. The process takes nearly 34.5 days.

There are two main functions of testicles - the synthesis of testosterone and the storage, production and maturation of sperm cells.

According to the findings of the study, which was recently published in the International Journal of Biological Sciences, the scientists emphasised that their organoids showed “signs of entry into meiosis,” the process which decreases the number of chromosomes by half to form sperm cells.
