Dinner in space? Space tourism company plans cosmic meal for a whopping amount

India on Friday (Mar 15) said that the phobia against any faith or religion is not restricted to the Abrahamic religions as the nation abstained from voting on a draft resolution aimed at adopting 'Measures to combat Islamophobia' in the UN General Assembly.

Pakistan had introduced the resolution in the UN General Assembly and it was co-sponsored by China.

The statement was made by India's permanent representative to the UN Ruchira Kamboj while explaining the position of New Delhi during the voting on the resolution.

Speaking at the the UN General Assembly's 61st plenary session, Kamboj said that the modern world has been witnessing unequal developments and escalation in geopolitical tension which have given rise to "intolerance, discrimination and violence" on the basis of people's belief or religion.

"India as a proud champion of pluralism firmly upholds the principle of equal protection and promotion of all religions & all faiths. Our rich history as a pluralistic and democratic nation in embracing diverse religions has long served a refuge for those persecuted for their faith...This principle isn't merely a facet of our culture, it is enshrined within the Constitution of India," said Ruchira Kamboj, while speaking at the UN.

"We condemn all acts motivated by anti-Semitism, Christianophobia or Islamophobia," said Kamboj.

"Clear evidence shows over decades that followers of non-Abrahamic religion have also been affected by religio phobia. This has led to emergence of contemporary forms of religious phobia, particularly anti-Hindu, anti-Buddhist, and anti-Sikh elements. These contemporary forms of religion phobia are evident in the increasing attacks on religious places such as Gurudwaras, monasteries and temples as well as the spreading of hatred and disinformation against non-Abrahamic religions in many countries," said India's Permanent Representative to the UN.

India against all forms of religiophobia: Kamboj

In support of her statement, Kamboj spoke about the reports of attacks on Sikh pilgrims, destruction of gurdwaras and damage to deities at temples which have been emerging lately.

"The destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas, violations of gurdwara premises, massacres of Sikh pilgrims in gurdwaras, attacks on temples, and the glorification of breaking idols in temples all contribute to the rise of contemporary forms of religiophobia against non-Abrahamic religions," the ambassador said.

"It is crucial to recognise that Hinduism...Buddhism... and Sikhism...are all subject to religiophobia. It is time to acknowledge the prevalence of religiophobia rather than just single out one... While the issue of Islamophobia is undoubtedly significant, we must acknowledge that other religions are also facing discrimination and violence. Allocating resources solely to combat Islamophobia while neglecting similar challenges faced by other faiths might inadvertently perpetuate a sense of exclusion and inequality," she added.

An Indian-origin couple along with their teenage daughter lost their lives in a "suspicious" fire that gutted their home in Canada's Ontario province last week, said the police on Friday (Mar 15).

An Indian-origin couple along with their teenage daughter lost their lives in a "suspicious" fire that gutted their home in Canada's Ontario province last week, said the police on Friday (Mar 15). According to the press release issued by the Peel Police, the family's home, located at the Big Sky Way and Van Kirk Drive area of Brampton was engulfed by fire on March 7. After the fire was put under control, the investigators found the human remains inside the gutted house, however, they could not ascertain the number of people killed at the time. On Friday (Mar 15), the authorities identified the charred remains as those belonging to three family members: 51-year-old Rajiv Warikoo; his wife, 47-year-old Shilpa Kotha; and their 16-year-old daughter, Mahek Warikoo. On Friday (Mar 15), Peel police Constable Taryn Young said that the fire appeared 'suspicious', reported the CTV news channel. "At this time, we are investigating this with our homicide bureau, and we are deeming this as suspicious as the Ontario Fire Marshal has deemed that this fire was not accidental," Young was quoted as saying in the report. "There's not much left to it," she said while speaking about the possible cause of the fire. "Looking into something like that as a fire marshal, I'm sure it's very tough when there is not much left to look at. But we are exhausting all avenues," she added. Investigation into 'mysterious fire' incident continues Kenneth Yousaf, the neighbour of the deceased family, said that for 15 years the family was living at the same address and they never noticed any problems with them. He said that one of his family members alerted him about the fire, after hearing a big "bang". "When we came out, the house was on fire. So sad. Within a few hours, everything was down to the ground," said Yousaf, as quoted in the report. Watch: Indian-origin student froze to death after being denied entry into US nightclub The police, in its press release, said that the fire incident and death of the three family members are being investigated and anyone who has any additional information should come forward. "The circumstances surrounding the house fire remains the focus of an active investigation, and anyone with information or video footage (dashcam or otherwise) is urged to contact Homicide detectives," said the police. Hamas accuses Israel of killing 29 Gazans waiting for aid, Tel Aviv denies attacks

United States President Joe Biden on Thursday (Mar 14) again left netizens and media speechless after he non-hesitantly asked permission from one of his staffers to “take a couple of questions” from the audience.

Biden was caught taking the bizarre permission during a campaign stop in Michigan, after which his other aides quickly shifted media reporters out of earshot.

“Can I take a couple questions?” asked 81-year-old Biden to a female staffer while meeting campaign volunteers and his supporters on the front porch of the home of a Saginaw city council member.

“Yeah, we’re going to take a few questions,” replied the staffer. The response of the staffer apparently gave a signal to three other aides who then started herding up the media reporters already present on the sidewalk nearly 20 feet away.

Netizens flabbergasted to see Biden seek staffer's permission to take questions from media in Michigan

The scientists, who have been working at the IceCube observatory, which remains buried deep in the icy south pole, spotted seven exotic and rarely-seen "ghost particle" candidates as they passed through Earth.

The signals hinted at the particles being astrophysical tau neutrinos which act as important messengers between humans and powerful celestial events.

The neutrinos, which are mass-less and charge-less particles blast across the cosmos at the speed of light. Due to those parameters, the neutrinos do not interact with anything.

Nearly 100 trillion of such neutrinos pass through the human body every second. Because of this, the neutrinos have been nicknamed "ghost particles."

The high-energy neutrinos which are released from cosmic sources at the Milky Way's edge are known as "astrophysical neutrinos". There are three types of them: Electron neutrinos, muon neutrinos and tau neutrinos.

These kinds of phantom particles are very elusive and it is the mission of IceCube to nail them down.

The astrophysical neutrinos were first detected by the observatory in 2013.

"The detection of seven candidate tau neutrino events in the data, combined with the very low amount of expected background, allows us to claim that it is highly unlikely that backgrounds are conspiring to produce seven tau neutrino imposters," said Doug Cowen, study co-leader and professor of physics at Penn State University, in a statement.

The observatory in total has 5,160 DOMs which are buried deep within Antarctic ice and they are waiting for the interaction of neutrinos with molecules in the ice for the production of the charged particles.

If scientists are able to understand neutrino oscillations, it will help them determine how these ghost particles get generated and what events forced them to hurtle through space.

"All in all, this exciting discovery comes with the intriguing possibility of leveraging tau neutrinos to uncover new physics," Cowen said.
