The 83-year-old actor and mime artist said, on Wednesday, that "the&nbsp;door was a danger point".

"You can identify and avoid that. And there was a side door he could have used," Richter added.

He also recalled the time he feared for Lennon's life as he was about to meet&nbsp;Bob Dylan at the Plaza Hotel in New York. To ensure that everything was in place, Richter had&nbsp;gotten out of the car.&nbsp;Seeing a man speeding his vehicle and driving towards them, he got terrified. But, the man turned out to be a hotel security guard.

"I thought I was going to die. Turned out he was hotel security coming to see if we needed help! Then I realised Bob was standing there all the time, totally unnoticed, in camouflage fatigues, laughing,"&nbsp;Richter shared.

Dan also told how he never thought Yoko would be a target for assassination despite the fact "people really did hate her" after she was blamed by fans for breaking up The Beatles.

Meanwhile, Paul McCartney said earlier this month that he couldn't bear to talk about Lennon's death after the singer was assassinated.&nbsp;Opening up about his devastation over Lennon's death in an interview for 'The Beatles Channel' on SirusXM, McCartney said, "When John died it was so difficult. It had hit me so much so, that I couldn't really talk about it. I remember getting home from the studio on the day that we'd heard the news he died."

"Turning the TV on and seeing people say, 'well, John Lennon was this', and 'What he was, was this', and 'I remember meeting him' and it was like, 'I don't know, I can't be one of those people'. I can't just go on TV and say what John meant to me. It was just too deep. It's just too much. I couldn't put it into words."

“As the world’s population of older adults increases, understanding disparities in age-related health is essential. Age-related changes in the immune system play a critical role in declining health,” said lead study author Eric Klopack, a postdoctoral scholar at the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology. “This study helps clarify mechanisms involved in accelerated immune ageing.”

As people age, the immune system naturally begins a dramatic downgrade, a condition called immunosenescence. With advanced age, a person’s immune profile weakens and includes too many worn-out white blood cells circulating and too few fresh, “naive” white blood cells ready to take on new invaders.

Immune ageing is associated not only with cancer but with cardiovascular disease, increased risk of pneumonia, reduced efficacy of vaccines and organ system ageing.

But what accounts for drastic health differences in same-age adults? USC researchers decided to see if they could tease out a connection between lifetime exposure to stress — a known contributor to poor health — and declining vigour in the immune system.

To calculate exposure to various forms of social stress, the researchers analyzed responses from a national sample of 5,744 adults over the age of 50. They answered a questionnaire designed to assess respondents’ experiences with social stress, including stressful life events, chronic stress, everyday discrimination and lifetime discrimination.

Blood samples from the participants were then analysed through flow cytometry, a lab technique that counts and classifies blood cells as they pass one by one in a narrow stream in front of a laser.

As expected, people with higher stress scores had older-seeming immune profiles, with lower percentages of fresh disease fighters and higher percentages of worn-out white blood cells. The association between stressful life events and fewer ready-to-respond, or naive, T cells remained strong even after controlling for education, smoking, drinking, BMI and race or ethnicity.

Some sources of stress may be impossible to control, but the researchers say there may be a workaround.

T-cells — a critical component of immunity — mature in a gland called the thymus, which sits just in front of and above the heart. As people age, the tissue in their thymus shrinks and is replaced by fatty tissue, resulting in reduced production of immune cells. Past research suggests that this process is accelerated by lifestyle factors like poor diet and low exercise, which are both associated with social stress.

“In this study, after statistically controlling for poor diet and low exercise, the connection between stress and accelerated immune ageing wasn’t as strong,” said Klopack. “What this means is people who experience more stress tend to have poorer diet and exercise habits, partly explaining why they have more accelerated immune ageing.”

Improving diet and exercise behaviours in older adults may help offset the immune ageing associated with stress.

Additionally, cytomegalovirus (CMV) may be a target for intervention. CMV is a common, usually asymptomatic virus in humans and is known to have a strong effect on accelerating immune ageing. Like shingles or cold sores, CMV is dormant most of the time but can flare up, especially when a person is experiencing high stress.

In this study, statistically controlling for CMV positivity also reduced the connection between stress and accelerated immune ageing. Therefore, widespread CMV vaccination could be a relatively simple and potentially powerful intervention that could reduce the immune ageing effects of stress, the researchers said.

Governments across the world have started to take precautionary measures to curb the spread of the infection while many of us have started practising social distancing, stocking up on sanitisers and wearing masks in public places.

In all this, we often ask ourselves if contaminated food can spread the COVID-19 infection. Even though there isn't a&nbsp;definite answer for this, new research suggests that the virus can linger on some foods for days and sometimes even weeks.&nbsp;

According to research published by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) on their official website, the deadly virus can survive on some groceries and packaged food items more than others.

Virus lingered longer on food items with uneven surfaces like broccoli, peppers and raspberries. At an ambient temperature of 23°C, the virus can survive on broccoli for nearly five days. Meanwhile, on peppers, the virus can survive for about seven days if kept at a chill temperature of 6°C.

On cheese or cold meat such as cheddar cheese and sliced ham, the virus was detected even after a week when stored in a refrigerator. According to the researchers, foods high in moisture, protein and saturated fats support more prolonged virus survival. This highlights the importance of proper food handling to prevent any contamination by the virus prior to consumption.&nbsp;

The virus can be found for several hours on the surface of bread crusts and pastries such as croissants and pain au chocolat, however, a significant decline can be seen after 24 hours. The study noted that a coating of liquid egg wash could have an inhibitory effect on the virus since eggs contain arachidonic acid and other unsaturated fatty acids, which possess anti-viral properties.&nbsp;

The same study by FSA also revealed that viral infectivity declines within a few hours post-contamination on apples and olives. "We suggest that chemicals, such as flavonoids, present in the skin of apples and olives inactivate the virus," clarified authors C.A. Bryant, S.A. Wilks and C.W. Keevil, who contributed to the study.

Lastly, the research revealed that coronavirus can&nbsp;remain&nbsp;on plastic containers and cartons for days. However, they only survive on aluminium packaging like cans for a few hours.&nbsp;

Titled 'Survival of SARS-CoV-2 on the surfaces of food and food packaging materials',&nbsp;a laboratory-based study was conducted by FSA in association with The University of Southampton by artificially contaminating infectious SARS-CoV-2 virus onto the surfaces of different food items and their&nbsp;packaging. The researchers measured how the amount of infectious virus present on those surfaces declined over time.

To conclude their study, the researchers said, "There is currently no documented evidence that food and food packaging materials are a significant source and/or vehicle for the transmission of SARS-CoV-2. The potential implications for public health are unclear since inhalation of respiratory aerosols and droplets is considered to be the main route of SARS-CoV-2 transmission."&nbsp;

"It should be noted that foods and packaging considered as part of this study were artificially inoculated with SARS-CoV-2 and therefore are not a reflection of contamination levels found on these foods at retail. However, there is the possibility of transmission through contaminated food if the food is in direct contact with the mouth and mucus membranes," they added.&nbsp;

American actress-director Drew Barrymore, who made her acting debut in 'Altered States' in 1980, recently opened up about her struggles with alcohol addiction and how she embarked on her journey of sobriety after her divorce from art advisor Will Kopelman in 2016.&nbsp;

Speaking to People, the actress revealed that her divorce was not followed by any "scandal" and "nothing went wrong" which made it harder and more confusing for her because she didn't have "the thing" to point fingers at.

She said, "We tried so hard to make it work. [A friend] said to me, 'Divorce is the death of a dream.' That's exactly what it feels like, something so final you can't get it back."

Since she didn't grow up with a family, she vowed her kids would. "I know what that feels like," she said. "If I haven't learned from that, then what was it all for?"

Laying the terms, she added, "This is a family, so nobody's going anywhere.&nbsp;I was determined to make it work because we all loved each other so much."

Calling the years following her divorce "cripplingly difficult", the actress said, "It just took me down. There are times when you can look at someone you think is a strong person and see them so broken and go, 'How the f--- did they get there?' And I was that person. I broke."

She shared, "After the life, I planned for my kids didn't work out — I almost think that was harder than the stuff [I went through] as a kid. It felt a lot more real because it wasn't just me. It was about these kids that I cared so much about. And then I probably cared so much that I was only giving to them and not taking care of myself. It was a messy, painful, excruciating walk through the fire and come back to life kind of trajectory."

After going to therapy and making positive lifestyle changes, she battled the addiction and got sober. Also, developing a show gave her "something to focus on" and pour herself into.

Historic fashion trends that are going to resurface in 2023

We are well aware that foods having spiked rates of calories, fats and sugars are detrimental to our health even if their taste is very good. Despite knowing this, overeating is a common tendency among many. What triggers this tendency in the brain?

According to research published in 'The FASEB Journal', it is now known that a gene termed CREB-Regulated Transcription Coactivator 1 (CRTC1) is connected to obesity in humans. Mice lacking CRTC1 develop obesity, which suggests that CRTC1 in normal operation prevents obesity.

The precise neurons that reduce obesity and the mechanism they contain are yet unclear, though, because CRTC1 is found in all brain neurons.

To elucidate the mechanism by which CRTC1 suppresses obesity, a research group led by Associate Professor Shigenobu Matsumura from the Graduate School of Human Life and Ecology at Osaka Metropolitan University focused on neurons expressing the melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R).

They hypothesized that CRTC1 expression in MC4R-expressing neurons suppressed obesity because mutations in the MC4R gene are known to cause obesity.

Consequently, they created a strain of mice that expresses CRTC1 normally except in MC4R-expressing neurons where it is blocked to examine the effect that losing CRTC1 in those neurons had on obesity and diabetes.

When fed a standard diet, the mice without CRTC1 in MC4R-expressing neurons showed no changes in body weight compared to control mice. However, when the CRTC1-deficient mice were raised on a high-fat diet, they overate, then became significantly more obese than the control mice and developed diabetes.

“This study has revealed the role that the CRTC1 gene plays in the brain, and part of the mechanism that stops us from overeating high-calorie, fatty, and sugary foods,” said Professor Matsumura. “We hope this will lead to a better understanding of what causes people to overeat.
