The Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA's) director William Burns on Friday warned that United States citizens should be "really careful'' on TikTok as many federal agencies including the White House banned the Chinese-owned video-sharing platform from government devices.

In an interview with PBS, Burns said that he shared concerns expressed by other US officials that TikTok could pose a danger to the country's national security.

"I think it's a genuine concern, I think, for the US government in the sense that because the parent company of TikTok is a Chinese company, the Chinese government is able to… insist upon extracting the private data of a lot of TikTok users in this country and also to shape the content of what goes on to TikTok as well to suit the interests of the Chinese leadership,” Burns said.

Diplodocus - a genus of the diplodocid sauropod dinosaurs might have been one of the biggest vegetarians in history. However, recent research carried out by the University of Bristol has said that ancestors of the Diplodocus might have feasted on meat. Dr Antonio Ballell, the lead of the research said that while omnivores, herbivores and carnivores all existed by the Triassic period, their predecessors did not necessarily share the same diet, according to a report by the Guardian. Dr Ballell said the earliest members of the two main veggie dinosaurs were not exclusively herbivorous, the report added. ALSO READ | Was an asteroid the sole reason dinosaurs went extinct? New study claims they were already 'dying out' The research ''Dental form and function in the early feeding diversification of dinosaurs'' published in the journal Science Advances on Friday, studied the teeth of some of the earliest dinosaurs to determine what they ate. "Dinosaurs evolved a remarkable diversity of dietary adaptations throughout the Mesozoic, but the origins of different feeding modes are uncertain, especially the multiple origins of herbivory," the research said. It said early dinosaurs' feeding habits were mostly inferred from qualitative comparisons of dental morphology with extant analogues. Dr Ballell and his colleagues analysed the teeth of 11 early dinosaurs including Ngwevu intloko and Lesothosaurus diagnosticus. Ngwevu intloko was a long-necked ancestor of the sauropods while Lesothosaurus diagnosticus was a bird-hipped dinosaur. Both these dinosaurs lived about 200 million years ago, the Guardian report said. ALSO READ | Were Dinosaurs a social species? Newly discovered fossils suggests they lived in herds The research team at the University of Bristol looked at the shaping and functioning of the dinosaurs' teeth and made computer models of how stress would be distributed among the teeth when biting. The results were then fed into machine-learning algorithms based on the dental features and diets of 47 living reptiles, the report added. The results showed that Ngwevu intloko and other early relatives of sauropods were likely to have been herbivores, those that lived earlier- appeared to have been carnivores based on their teeth, the report also said. On the other hand, when it comes to Lesothosaurus diagnosticus, the researchers pointed out that the dinosaur's teeth had a greater mechanical resistance suggesting that while it could have been a herbivore, there was also a possibility that it could have been an omnivore. A new Pentagon office, which was set up in July to identify reports of unidentified flying objects (UFOs), has received 'several hundreds' of new UFO reports, but there is no evidence of alien life till now, the office said on Friday.

The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) is responsible for tracking unidentified objects in the sky, underwater or in space. It is also responsible for tracking any object that can move from one domain to the next, a report by the Associated Press said.

The AARO was established following over a year of unidentified flying objects that military pilots have observed. In June last year, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence reported that between 2004 and 2021, there were 144 such encounters. Eighty of these encounters were captured on multiple sensors.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Dr Sean Kirkpatrick, AARO's director, said that the Pentagon received several hundreds of UFO reports. Kirkpatrick did not rule out the possibility of extraterrestrial life and said he was taking a scientific approach to the research.

"I would just say that we are structuring our analysis to be very thorough and rigorous. We will go through it all," he told reporters.

Kirkpatrick pointed out that one reason for these hundreds of reports coming in might be the outreach the office did to destigmatise reporting potential encounters.

The AARO director also said there is a lot of new technology such as drones, hypersonic missiles stealth bombers and stealth fighters- fielded by both the United States and China- that could be mistaken for UFOs.

The office has been coordinating with the Pentagon and the US intelligence community to get the signatures of US technology to rule out those aircraft or drones, he added, the Associated Press report further said.

In May this year, the US Congress held a briefing on UFOs, its first hearing on the topic in more than 50 years. Multiple members had expressed concerns that whether or not the objects are alien or potentially new, unknown technology being flown by China, Russia or another potential adversary, the unknown posed a security risk to the US.

“(So far) we have not seen anything, and we’re still very early on, that would lead us to believe that any of the objects that we have seen are of alien origin,” the US under secretary of defence for intelligence and security Ronald Moultrie said on Friday, adding any unauthorised system in the country's airspace is deemed as a threat to safety.

Moultrie said the office (AARO) was also working on ways to improve the ability to identify unknown objects.

TikTok is testing a new horizontal full-screen mode with selected users globally in what is being seen as a direct competition to YouTube. Users who will be able to access this feature will see a ''full screen'' button appearing on videos in their feed, a report by TechCrunch on Wednesday said. Upon clicking the button, the video will now change to a horizontal full screen.

It is not yet known when will this mode be available to all users or whether the company plans to even release it. If the feature is officially released, it may look different than the test product, the TechCrunch report said.

Often TikTok creators will add a ''turn your phone'' message at the beginning of their videos so that viewers can enjoy the experience if the videos are recorded horizontally.

However with the horizontal full-screen mode, creators will no longer have to share the message, the report added.

Some people may welcome the new screen mode while others may not as TikTok has been known for popularising the vertical video format.

TikTok's prominence in the online space continues to grow but the company has come under scrutiny from many countries including the United States.

On December 8, the video platform was sued by the US state of Indiana over child safety and security fears. According to the lawsuit, TikTok's algorithms served up "abundant content depicting alcohol, tobacco, and drugs; sexual content, nudity, and suggestive themes" to users who were as young as 13, news agency AFP reported.

In a statement, Indiana's attorney general Todd Rokita said that the Tiktok app was a malicious and menacing threat unleased on the state's consumers "by a Chinese company that knows full well the harms it inflicts on users.''

On Thursday, Ardern said she had signed the official transcript with Seymour "in the spirit of good sportsmanship and a good cause."

And on Friday, Seymour told AFP "We are thrilled it's got such good support. I suggested we sign a copy of the Hansard and auction it off to raise money for the foundation and pricks everywhere."

Seymour also said he hoped the signed document would go for a lot of money.
