Pakistan has expressed disappointment with the ban on university education for women in Afghanistan and has urged the Taliban government to revisit this decision. On Tuesday, Pakistan's foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto said that he was disappointed by the Taliban's decision but said the best approach remained engagement with the ruling government in Afghanistan.

"I'm disappointed by the decision that was taken today. I still think the easiest path to our goal -- despite having a lot of setbacks when it comes to women's education and other things -- is through Kabul and through the interim government," Bhutto told news agency AFP on Tuesday.

The Pakistan foreign minister also pointed out there were no alternatives to the Taliban and warned of further instability in Afghanistan.

Pakistan 'disappointed' by ban on university education for Afghan women, urges Kabul to revisit decision

Residents in the US state of Wisconsin have shared videos of strange lights in the skies this month in what is being seen as a possible Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) sighting. A report by the Daily Mail on Monday said the videos from December 1 showed white lights zipping across the sky over the rolling farmland near West Bend and Fredonia. The lights, which were moving at an incredible speed and appeared to have come from above the thin cloud layer on the night of December 1, left witnesses believing that they saw a UFO. The Daily Mail obtained the videos from two Wisconsin residents — Kimberly and Ken.

Kimberly, who is a salon owner from West Bend, shared videos of the possible UFO sighting after she saw bright lights flashing over the sky while she was driving on a rural road in West Bend at around 10.45 pm on December 1.

At the same time, Ken, a former police officer and financial services worker in Fredonia, spotted the strange lights in the sky over the fields outside his house and recorded the phenomenon.

Videos shared by these two Wisconsin residents captured a moment where four of the lights appear in a row and a fifth light, flying from the left, joins the formation, the Daily Mail report on Monday said.

Another resident of the US state- Andrea Lynn, also saw these strange lights in the sky on December 1. Taking to Facebook, Lynn shared four videos of the sighting outside her house about 80 miles north in Howard.

This news of a possible UFO sighting in the US comes as the Pentagon received several hundreds of new UFO reports but there was no evidence of alien life so far. Last Friday, the AARO's director Dr Sean Kirkpatrick told reporters that the Pentagon received several hundreds of new UFO reports. Dr Kirkpatrick did not rule out the possibility of extraterrestrial life and said he was taking a scientific approach to the research.

The Chinese government said on Wednesday that there were no new deaths due to Covid on Tuesday after it changed the criteria for recording virus deaths. The move comes as China is seeing a spike in infections.

According to the new criteria, only those Covid patients who directly died of respiratory failure caused by the virus would be counted under Covid death statistics.

Earlier, patients who died of an illness while being infected with Covid were also counted as a virus death. This way of reporting Covid deaths accounted for a huge number of fatalities in other countries, according to a report by news agency AFP on Wednesday.

Since the government announced the decision to lift the zero-Covid policy last week, China reported a total of seven virus deaths- all in the capital Beijing. However, one death was removed from the official tally given the changed criteria.

China has recorded more than 10 million Covid cases and over 31,370 deaths since the onset of the pandemic, according to figures shown by the World Health Organization (WHO).

A four-member delegation of Pakistani clerics will visit Afghanistan this week to hold talks to end the cross-border clashes in the Chaman border region. The Chaman district administration said the delegation of the Pakistani Ulema will hold meetings with officials from Afghanistan's defence ministry and key Taliban leaders in Kandahar and Kabul, according to a report by The News International on Sunday.

The administration added that the Pakistan-Afghanistan border security forces’ flag meeting has been postponed upon the departure of the Ulema delegation. However, routine operations in civilian areas were restored on both sides of the border, the report added.

The news of the upcoming dialogue this week comes two days after Pakistan summoned a senior Afghan diplomat over the repeated cross-border clashes.

"Afghan Chargé d’Affaires in Islamabad was called into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Pakistan’s strong condemnation over recent incidents of unprovoked cross-border shelling by Afghan Border Security Forces in the Chaman-Spin Boldak area, resulting in loss of life, injuries and damage to property, was conveyed," Pakistan's foreign ministry said in a statement on Friday.

''It was reiterated that protection of civilians remained the responsibility of both sides and that recurrence of these incidents must be prevented,'' the ministry said.

The ministry added that Pakistan remains committed to maintaining fraternal relations with Afghanistan.

Pakistan and Afghanistan have had territorial disputes for decades and the recent cross-border clashes and other attacks have strained the relations between the two countries.

Eight Pakistani civilians and one Afghan soldier were killed in cross-border shelling and gunfire near the Chaman border crossing on December 11. And on Thursday (December 15), clashes erupted again near the same crossing killing one person and injuring more than a dozen people.

Poland's police chief Jaroslaw Szymczyk was injured after he accidentally fired a grenade launcher gifted by Ukraine, news agency Reuters reported on Saturday citing Polish media. The explosion took place on Wednesday damaging a ceiling in the building. Szymczyk and two others suffered injuries.

Earlier, Poland's interior ministry had not confirmed media reports that the explosion was caused by the grenade launcher. The Polish police, on the other hand, said on Thursday it was investigating "an act consisting of unintentionally causing a violent release of energy that threatened the life or health of many people or property."

Speaking to RMF FM, Szymczyk said, "When I was moving the used grenade launchers, which were gifts from the Ukrainians, there was an explosion." He added that he was moving the grenade launchers into an upright position.

The police chief had received the two grenade launchers as presents during his visits to the police and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, RMF reported citing a source from a Polish delegation that visited the war-torn country.

The source added that officials assured the delegation that the launchers were not loaded, adding the delegation took them back to Warsaw before leaving them in the back room of Szymczyk's office. However, this news is not yet confirmed, Reuters further reported on Saturday.

Szymczyk has been criticised over the explosion. Polish media reported that commentators with backgrounds in the security services said that military equipment should not have been taken into Poland from outside the European Union (EU) or taken into an office.

An Indian-American woman, accused of tossing her newborn into a Florida inlet in 2018, appeared in court on Friday on a first-degree murder charge. Arya Singh, 29, was arrested on Thursday in the death of her female infant who was named “Baby June” by the authorities, a report by the Associated Press said.

The newborn's body was found floating in the seaside inlet in Florida on June 1, 2018, by an off-duty Boynton Beach firefighter.

On Friday, during a brief hearing, a Palm Beach County judge ordered Arya Singh be held without bail. Singh, who works as a security guard did not enter a plea at the hearing. Her next court date is on January 17.

Detective Brittany Christoffel, who was heading the case, said, "She (Arya Singh) said when the baby was born, she wasn't sure if the baby was alive or dead and that was that," a report by news agency ANI said.

The Baby June case was solved by the Palm Beach sheriff’s detectives using DNA collected from the father and Singh.

Detective Christoffel said the investigating team tracked down the father who submitted to the DNA test and told investigators about a woman he was dating at the time who told him that she was pregnant but took care of it. The father assumed it meant an abortion, Christoffel said.

The detective added that the investigators were able to grab covert DNA that belonged to Singh by picking up garbage she threw.

If convicted, Arya Singh faces life in prison or the death penalty.
