An anti-terrorism court in Lahore on Saturday (March 25) granted interim bail till April 4 to former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan in three terrorism cases filed at the Lahore Race course police station. According to a Dawn report, two of these cases were filed on March 14 and March 15, relating to the clashes which took place between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters and police outside party chairperson Imran Khan's residence in Zaman Park.

The report said that judge Ejaz Ahmad Buttar heard the plea while Barrister Salman Safdar appeared in the court as Khan’s counsel. During the hearing, Khan said he wanted to be included in the investigation, adding there is a risk of him being arrested. The former prime minister also filed a separate plea seeking permission for his car to be allowed within the court premises, the report added.

On Saturday, PTI will hold a rally at the Minar-i-Pakistan in Lahore where Khan intends to outline his ‘vision of Haqeeqi Azadi’.

Taking to Twitter, the PTI chairperson said early Saturday, "Tonight will be our sixth jalsa at Minar-i-Pakistan & my heart tells me it will break all records. According to Dawn, in what appeared to be an attempt to block routes leading to the party's power show venue, shipping containers were placed at entry and exit routes of the city, including those from Shahdara to Ravi bridge.

The road heading from Data Darbar towards Minar-i-Pakistan has been closed off from both sides.

Expressing concerns that the government might erect obstacles to prevent party supporters from reaching the venue, Khan said that it was the fundamental right of the people to participate in a political gathering.

Ex-Pak PM Imran Khan gets interim bail till April 4 in three terrorism cases: Report

Microsoft has threatened to restrict access to its internet-search data that it licenses to rival search engines if they do not stop using it as the basis for their artificial intelligence (AI) chat products, the news agency Bloomberg reported early Saturday (March 25) citing sources. Microsoft licenses the data in its Bing search index, a map of the internet that can be quickly scanned in real-time, to other companies that offer web searches such as Yahoo and DuckDuckGo.

Last month, Microsoft integrated a cousin of ChatGPT into Bing and its rivals also moved to roll out their artificial intelligence chatbots. This week, Google released its AI product, Bard. DuckDuckGo, which emphasises on protecting searchers' privacy, came up with DuckAssist, which answers questions by scanning a specific set of sources.

Two relatively new search engines You.com and Neeva Inc. also debuted AI-fuelled search services YouChat and NeevaAI. These search chatbots aim to combine the conversational skills of ChatGPT with the information provided by a conventional search engine.

Bloomberg reported on Friday that the regular search engines of DuckDuckGo, You.com and Neeva use Bing to provide some of their information as indexing the entire web is costly.

Sources told the news agency that Microsoft told at least two customers that the use of Bing search index to feed their AI chat tools violates the terms of their contract. They added that Microsoft may terminate licenses providing access to its search index.

The report also said that if they are cut off from the index, smaller search engines would have a hard time finding an alternative. At present, Microsoft and Google are the only two organisations that index the entire web. Google's limitations on the use of its index have led to nearly all other search engines using Microsoft's Bing.

Addressing a press conference, Gandhi said, "I have said many times before that democracy is being attacked in the country. We are seeing examples of this each day. I asked questions in the parliament regarding the relationship between PM Modi and Adani."

Gandhi said that Prime Minister Modi is scared of his next speech on Adani, "and I have seen it in his eyes."

Rahul Gandhi's disqualification from parliament comes after a court in Gujarat found him guilty in a 2019 defamation case on Thursday. During a Lok Sabha election rally in Karnataka in April 2019, Gandhi referred to thieves as having the surname Modi.

After convicting Gandhi, the court granted him bail and suspended his jail sentence for 30 days to allow him to appeal in a higher court.

On Saturday, a plea was filed in the Supreme Court challenging the provisions of the Representatives of the Peoples Act under which Gandhi was disqualified. The petitioner said factors such as nature, gravity, role, moral turpitude, and the role of the accused, ought to be examined while considering disqualification under Chapter III of the 1951 Act.

I'm not Savarkar, won't apologise: Rahul Gandhi on disqualification from Indian parliament

A boy from Mongolia, whose name and age are unclear, is at the centre of a tense geopolitical chess game which is being played out between powerful governments in east Asia. According to a report by The Times on Wednesday (March 22), the boy's formal title is the tenth Khalkha Jetsun Dhampa, the third-most senior Lama of Tibetan Buddhism, and the head of that faith in Mongolia.

Until this month, the boy's existence was little more than a rumour. But then, he appeared alongside the Dalai Lama — the supreme leader of Tibetan Buddhism — who lives in exile in India. The Times report said the boy's presence was mentioned in the account of a ceremony presided over by the Dalai Lama at his base in Dharamsala on March 8.

This development has gone unnoticed outside Buddhist and diplomatic circles. But in Mongolia, it has caused intense excitement among Buddhists, contempt among secular nationalists and alarm among those who fear this news would provoke the rage of Mongolia's powerful neighbour — China, the report said.

Tsetsegmaa Demberel, a female devotee of Buddhism and one of the 600 Mongolians who attended the March 8 ceremony in Dharmasala, said, “For three days afterwards, I was elated and filled with joy.”

“I am so proud that we have a global spiritual leader, who is a Mongolian,” Demberel added.

At the centre of the controversy is Beijing's hatred for the Dalai Lama, 87. Back in 1959, he fled Tibet after an abortive uprising against Chinese rule. He is based in India.

The Dalai Lama is upheld as a spiritual leader in predominantly Buddhist Mongolia, but Beijing regards him as a dangerous separatist.

The belief of Tibetan Buddhists is that after death, the soul of a lama is reincarnated in a child, who is identified after lengthy rituals and divinations. However, China insists that only its appointees have the right to identify the reincarnations of lamas.

When the Dalai Lama named the new Panchen Lama in 1995, Beijing immediately arrested the child and replaced him with its candidate.

In 2016, the Dalai Lama had visited Mongolia which was severely criticised by China. The Chinese government said the visit brought a negative impact on China-Mongolia relations. But before leaving Ulan Bator, the Dalai Lama said that Jetsun Dhampa — Tibetan Buddhism’s third-most-important lama — was reincarnated in Mongolia and the search was on to find him, The Times report said

This is the boy who was so discreetly presented in public for the first time, the report added.

Citing local media reports, The Times reported that the Mongolian boy is one of a pair of twins named Aguidai and Achiltai Altannar, although which one among them is not clear. He was born in 2015 in the United States and has dual nationality. The report also added that the boy has an elder sister and at least one other sibling.

The family is a long-standing patron of the Gandan Tegchinlen in Ulan Bator which is one of the greatest monasteries in Mongolia. But no one, including the boy's family and the government, will talk about the presentation which from the point of Mongolia’s foreign policy is fraught with peril.

Robbie Barnett, a Tibetan Buddhism expert at SOAS University of London, said, "It can be taken by China as a challenge to their past claim to sole authority in choosing lamas. These things can cascade into a confrontation with China, which could penalise Mongolia in damaging ways."

Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, who belongs to the Congress party, was disqualified from parliament on Friday (March 24) after a court found him guilty in a 2019 defamation case a day earlier. Rahul was granted bail by the court and his jail sentence has been suspended for 30 days to allow him to appeal in a higher court. On Thursday, a Surat court sentenced Gandhi to two years imprisonment in the defamation case over his 'Modi surname' thieves remark made in April 2019 during a Lok Sabha election rally in the state of Karnataka. Following his disqualification, Gandhi will not be able to contest elections for eight years. The Congress party said on Friday that it would legally and politically challenge Gandhi's disqualification. Meanwhile, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said the disqualification was lawful and that Gandhi insulted a community at the time of the elections. Who is Rahul Gandhi? Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, a prominent opposition leader in Indian politics, was disqualified from parliament on Friday (March 24). Gandhi's disqualification comes after a court in Gujarat found him guilty in a 2019 defamation case on Thursday. Gandhi, 52, was granted bail and his jail sentence has been suspended for 30 days allowing him to appeal to a higher court. Following his disqualification, the Congress leader will not be able to contest elections for eight years. This comes as general elections will take place in India next year. The Congress has said that it would legally and politically challenge Rahul Gandhi's disqualification from the Lok Sabha. But what is next for Gandhi? The parliament notice on Friday said that Gandhi was disqualified from the membership of the Lok Sabha as per the provisions of Article 102 (1) (e) of the Constitution of India read with Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. ALSO READ | Explained: Who is Rahul Gandhi, the Indian opposition leader disqualified from parliament? Article 102(1)(e) of the Constitution states that a person shall be disqualified for being chosen as, and for being, a member of either House of Parliament if he is so disqualified by or under any law made by Parliament." The law made by Parliament in question is Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which disqualifies representatives on conviction. And this point applies to Rahul Gandhi's case. Section 8(3) of The Representation of the People Act, 1951 says that a person convicted of any offence and sentenced to imprisonment for not less than two years shall be disqualified from the date of such conviction and shall continue to be disqualified for a further period of six years since his/her release. However, the disqualification can be reversed if a higher court grants a stay on the conviction or decides the appeal in favour of the convicted lawmaker. The Congress leader will be moving the sessions court and the higher courts soon. Speaking to reporters on Friday, senior party leader and lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi cited the Lok Prahari case and said that there is no automatic disqualification as Article 103 of the Constitution states that only the President has the power to disqualify after taking the advice of the Election Commission (EC). However, Singhvi said he had doubts if Gandhi`s membership will be restored if the sentence is stayed because things have moved at a lightning speed in the defamation case. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however disagrees. Speaking to the Indian news channel NDTV, BJP MP and lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani said that by the operation of the law, Rahul Gandhi stands disqualified, but the decision has to be communicated to the Speaker. "But as of today, he stands disqualified," Jethmalani added. Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal, who was earlier with the Congress, told NDTV said that Gandhi stands automatically disqualified as an MP with his two-year jail sentence. Indian parliament disqualifies Rahul Gandhi after court finds him guilty in 2019 defamation case

Canadian member of parliament Han Dong has stepped down from the Liberal Party led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over allegations that he was involved in Chinese political interference. According to a report by Global News on Wednesday (March 24), Dong had advised a senior Chinese diplomat in February 2021 that China should not release two Canadians — Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig — held there on espionage charges.

Spavor and Kovrig later returned to Canada in September 2021 after Chinese executive Meng Wanzhou was released from house arrest in Canada following a deal. Wanzhou, a Huawei senior executive, was put in house arrest in Canada on the request of the US which was seeking her extradition on fraud charges.

Citing unconfirmed media reports, the news agency Reuters reported on Thursday that Dong was accused of having ties to the Beijing government.

The MP denied has denied all the allegations. Addressing the House of Commons on Wednesday, Dong said, "I have informed the prime minister and the leadership of the Liberal Party caucus that I will be sitting as an Independent at the conclusion of these remarks. Mr Speaker, I am in your hands as to what happens next."

Dong said that the allegations made against him were false, adding, he would never advocate or support the violation of the basic human rights of any Canadian, according to the Global News report. Dong further said he would sit as an independent in parliament and leave the Liberal caucus.

"Sitting (in) the government caucus is a privilege and my presence there may be seen by some as a conflict of duty and the wrong place to be as an independent investigation pursues the facts," he said.

Dong's remarks come after opposition party leaders said that the allegations against him regarding Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig underscored the need for a public inquiry into foreign interference in Canada.

Canadian MP Han Dong quits party over allegations of Chinese interference: Report

The US has announced that individuals travelling to the country on a business or tourist visa — B-1 and B-2 — can apply for new jobs and even appear in interviews, but the prospective employees must ensure that they have changed their visa status before starting a new role.

B-1 and B-2 visas are generally referred to as B visas, and they are the most common types of visa issued for a wide range of uses in the United States. The B-1 visa is issued mainly for short-term business trips, while the B-2 visa is issued mainly for travelling, tourism purposes.

In a note, and a series of tweets, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said on Wednesday when nonimmigrant workers are laid off, they may not be aware of their options and may, in some instances, wrongly assume that they have no option but to leave the country within 60 days.

The move by the USCIS came as thousands of highly skilled foreign-born workers, including Indians, in the US, have lost their jobs due to a series of recent layoffs at companies like Google, Microsoft and Amazon.

They are now struggling to find new employment within the stipulated 60-day period under their work visas following the termination of their employment to stay in the country.

The maximum 60-day grace period starts the day after termination of employment, which is typically determined based on the last day for which a salary or wage is paid.

When a nonimmigrant worker's employment is terminated, either voluntarily or involuntarily, they typically may take one of the several actions, if eligible, to remain in a period of authorised stay in the United States.

These include filing an application for a change of nonimmigrant status; filing an application for adjustment of status; filing an application for a "compelling circumstances" employment authorisation document; or being the beneficiary of a nonfrivolous petition to change employer.

"If one of these actions occurs within the up to 60-day grace period, the nonimmigrant's period of authorised stay in the United States can exceed 60 days, even if they lose their previous nonimmigrant status," the USCIS said.

If the worker takes no action within the grace period, they and their dependents may then need to depart the United States within 60 days, or when their authorised validity period ends, whichever is shorter, it said.

"Many people have asked if they can look for a new job while in B-1 or B-2 status. The answer is, yes. Searching for employment and interviewing for a position are permissible B-1 or B-2 activities," the USCIS said in a series of tweets.

At the same time, the USCIS said that before beginning any new employment, a petition and request for a change of status from B-1 or B-2 to an employment-authorised status must be approved, and the new status must take effect.

"Alternatively, if the change of status request is denied or the petition for new employment requested consular or port of entry notification, the individual must depart the US and be admitted in an employment-authorised classification before beginning the new employment," the USCIS said.

Amidst massive layoffs in the American tech sector that have resulted in a large number of Indian professionals being jobless, two Indian-American organisations launched an online petition last month, urging US President Joe Biden to extend the grace period of H-1B visas holders from two months to a year.

This means that once fired from a job, a foreign tech worker on H-1B visas would have one year to find a new job instead of the existing duration of 60 days, after which they have to leave the country.

The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in speciality occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise.
Technology companies depend on it to hire tens of thousands of employees each year from countries like India and China.

One can apply for jobs, give interviews while on tourist or business visa in US: Federal agency

Hindenburg Research, the American research firm said in its report on Thursday that Jack Dorsey's Block has "systematically taken advantage of the demographics it claims to be helping". The report pushed Block shares to plunge 20%.

US-based short seller Hindenburg Research which made headlines earlier this year for its report accusing the Adani Group, which caused a widespread stock market sell-off and price drop, released its latest critical report on US-based mobile payment provider Block, led by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey.

The report added that "Block Inc., formerly known as Square Inc., is a $44 billion market cap company that claims to have developed a 'frictionless' and 'magical' financial technology with a mission to empower the 'unbanked' and the 'underbanked'".

However, Hindenburg said, "Our 2-year investigation has concluded that Block has systematically taken advantage of the demographics it claims to be helping. The 'magic' behind Block’s business has not been disruptive innovation, but rather the company's willingness to facilitate fraud against consumers and the government, avoid regulation, dress up predatory loans and fees as revolutionary technology, and mislead investors with inflated metrics".

Most analysts were optimistic about Block's Cash App platform after the recent post-pandemic uptick, according to Hindenburg.

However, according to the research firm, Block has also "wildly oversated" the number of its actual users and significantly underestimated the amount it has spent on acquiring those users.

According to the US short seller's investigation, between 40% and 75% of the accounts looked at by former employees were either fake or duplicates of accounts already owned by the same person.

Hindenburg also said that Block lied about how many users it had and how much money it made by counting fake accounts and payments as real users and money. According to the article, Block's shares increased by 639% in 18 months during the pandemic, thanks to the new company.

That comes hours after the US research firm said that a new report is coming out soon. "New report soon—another big one," Hidenberg tweeted earlier on Thursday, March 23, but did not give any further details.

Hindenburg's report from January 24 had said that the Adani Group had committed fraud and messed with taxes. The report also said that the Adani Group had unsustainable debt. The conglomerate denied the allegations, saying it complied with all laws and has made necessary disclosures over time.

In India, the opposition Congress accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government of favouring the Adani Group.

Adani Group's stock lost more than $145 billion in market value at one point after the report was published. However, since those deep losses, the shares of the Indian business group's firms have recovered sharply but they are still in the red compared to trades before the US short seller's report two months ago.

Hindenburg's tweet of "another big one" comes when the United States is in the midst of a banking crisis.

The recent failures of American banks and the 167-year-old Swiss bank Credit Suisse have weighed heavily on financial markets, wiping out billions of dollars. After the Silicon Valley Bank failed, people on Twitter said that Hindenburg was biased and pointed out that the research firm had been quiet about the failure of major US banks.

For now, the only connection to the latest Hindenburg report is that it accuses the former CEO of Twitter.

Hindenburg's next target is Jack Dorsey's payment app's firm, Block

Top Inter-Services-Intelligence (ISI) officer Brigadier Mustafa Kamal was gunned down along with four other Pakistan army soldiers by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in Angoor Adda in South Waziristan bordering Afghanistan.

Several Pakistan army personnel are being killed every day in the Southwestern province of Balochistan by Baloch Liberation Army, Baloch Liberation Front, Baloch National Army, Baloch Republican Guards and other militant organisations fighting for the liberation of their occupied country from the clutches of Pakistan.

In Sindh, the Sindhudesh Revolutionary army is targeting military installations, railway tracks and security forces.

In Punjab, PTI workers of Imran Khan are confronting the Punjab police and rangers and forcing all sections of the state to back off from any attempt to arrest Khan.

In Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and occupied Gilgit-Baltistan (PoJK-GB), the situation is no different.

Every single day, people from different sections of society are on the roads protesting against shortages of flour and wheat, load-shedding, non-payment of salaries, forcefully cutting the salaries of government servants, non-payments of pensions, lack of health and education facilities, etc.

There is not a single sector of economy, political activity or social life in PoJK-GB that has not suffered at the hands of the occupying Pakistan military and the state of Pakistan.

Recently, a long march was conducted by youths of PoJK from Rawalakot to Titrinote crossing point on the Line of Control. While speeches were being delivered against Pakistani occupation and their Jihadi proxies, three men jumped onto the stage and snatched the microphone from the speaker.

They then fled the scene firing shots from pistols and warning of serious consequences if the protest continued to target Pakistan of Jihadi organisations. The organiser of the event say that the attackers were from a local Jihadi outfit.

This is testimony to the fact that Pakistan will use its Jihadi proxies in PoJK-GB to counter attempts by the locals to fight Pakistani occupation.

It also shows that Pakistan has a well-structured Jihadi network in all major cities of PoJK-GB that are acting as a fascist force to tackle any local movement that raises the desire to rejoin Mother India.

However, it will not be an easy task for Pakistan to succeed in its vicious design. The reason is simple. National question in both PoJK-GB is a burning issue in the context of both territories being occupied by Pakistan.

Religion will play no role to dilute the struggle for reunification of these territories with Mother India. The creation of Bangladesh is testimony to the fact that national liberation sentiment is by far stronger than religious sentiment.

Therefore, clashes between Jihadist and nationalist seems imminent leading to Civil War in all parts of the PoJK-GB. Once this happens, Pakistan will be truly engulfed in a multi-front Civil War further leading towards the disintegration of the state.

The ongoing militancy in Khyber Paktoonkhawa, Sindh, Balochistan and the unrest in PoJK-GB is an indication of non-resolvable political, economic and above all nationalistic contradictions that can only be resolved by the liberation of all oppressed nations living under the occupation of the state of Pakistan and its armies.

The disintegration of Pakistan as a state and the break-up of its military power will lead to the dismantling of the terrorist industry, thriving at the moment, and bring peace to the region and the rest of the world.
