Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka lauded former Indian and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni in a recent interaction. Goenka, who previously owned the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS), worked closely with Dhoni during the latter's days in the Pune franchise. After signing Dhoni ahead of IPL 2016, the Goenka-led Pune franchise appointed him captain for the season. However, Steve Smith replaced Dhoni as the skipper for the IPL 2017 season.

There were reports of rift between Goenka and Dhoni post the latter's sacking as Pune captain. However, the businessman clarified all such claims and stated that there is no bad blood between the two. In a recent interaction, Goenka opined on his equation with the CSK legend and heaped praise on him.

"You look at MS Dhoni, I have never seen a leader like him. His thinking and way of approach, how a person at his age can reinvent himself. Look at Pathirana, he is a young bowler, Dhoni groomed him to be a lethal matchwinner. He knows how to use his players when and he thinks accordingly. Whenever I interact with him, I get to learn something,"&nbsp;Goenka said in the TRS Podcast.

Dhoni will be seen in action during IPL 2025, after being retained by the Yellow Army as an uncapped player ahead of the recently-held IPL mega auction. Meanwhile, Goenka-led LSG franchise roped in Rishabh Pant, for a whopping INR 270 million (INR 27 crore), at the auction and are expected to appoint him captain for the next edition.

India lost the second Test, in Adelaide, to Australia by ten wickets as the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) is now levelled at 1-1. While India looked clueless in the pink-ball contest, despite a big win in the series opener in Perth, captain Rohit Sharma made heads turn with his decision-making. He was blamed for being defensive as it allowed Australia to take a&nbsp;sizeable 157-run lead, after India bundled out for 180, whereas his decision to bat at No. 6 surprised many. The opener demoted himself down the order to not disturb the opening pair of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who flourished in Perth.

However, the move didn't pay dividends as Rohit and the opening pair failed. Many former cricketers believe Hitman should go back to opening the innings, which he has been doing since late 2019, however, veteran Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara explained why Rohit batting down the order is ideal.

In the build-up to the third Test, in Brisbane, Pujara told ESPNCricinfo, "He has not scored a lot of runs against New Zealand and did not start well in Australia, so there is a bit of pressure on him to perform. But someone like him who knows his game will have to be more positive and work a bit more on his footwork. If he has a slightly bigger stride, it will help him.&nbsp; The stump line has been troubling him a lot. He has been getting out bowled and LBW, which is a bit of a concern for him. That's the line he will have to work on in the nets because in the balls outside off stump, he is looking more comfortable. I think he should continue to bat at No. 6."

Rahul and Jaiswal recorded the highest opening stand for India in Tests in Australia (201) during the Perth Test. Hence, they are likely to continue as openers for the remainder of the series. However, it will be interesting to see if Rohit regains form at No. 6, where he batted for a long time before cementing his spot as an opener since Sep 2019.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks edged the depleted but determined Orlando Magic 114-109 to reach the NBA Cup semi-finals on Tuesday as Oklahoma City cruised past Dallas. Antetokounmpo scored 37 points with seven rebounds and four blocked shots for the Bucks, who reached the semi-finals of the in-season tournament for the second year in a row and will face either the New York Knicks or Atlanta Hawks for a place in the final.

Damian Lillard scored 15 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter and handed out nine assists for the Bucks, who had all they could handle from Orlando despite the absence of injured Magic stars Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. Lillard threw down a dunk to put the Bucks up 108-107 with 32.6 seconds remaining, and after Orlando's Jalen Suggs missed a three-pointer, Lillard drilled a pair of free-throws to push the Bucks' lead to three points with 9.1 seconds left.

Antetokounmpo and Lillard each added a pair of free throws in the final seconds to seal the hard-fought victory. "We fought for this one," said Lillard, who said the Bucks would be aiming to improve on their performance last year in the inaugural edition of the event when they head to Las Vegas for the final stage. "We didn't have the greatest experience there last year," he said. "So I think all of us are thinking (about) going back and finishing what we started last year and doing it right this time."

Suggs scored a career-high 32 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Magic, who got off to an aggressive start on the way to a 33-25 lead after one quarter. Suggs had three of the Magic's seven steals in the first period as Orlando kept the Bucks off-balance.

Milwaukee recovered to lead 60-59 at half time, and after four lead changes in the third quarter, the Bucks took an 80-72 lead into the final period. They would swap the lead four more times before the Bucks finally put it away.

In Oklahoma City, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder turned the highly anticipated matchup of two of the league's hottest teams into a rout, beating the Mavs 118-104 to end their seven-game winning streak. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 39 points with eight rebounds and five assists. Jalen Williams added 18 points and center Isaiah Hartenstein added 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Thunder, who made 20 of their whopping 50 three-point attempts.

Oklahoma City notched their eighth win in nine games and will play either the Houston Rockets or Golden State Warriors for a place in the final. The Thunder's top-ranked defense proved too much for the Mavs. Klay Thompson scored 19 points for Dallas, Kyrie Irving added 17 and Luka Doncic, coming off back-to-back triple-doubles, was held to two points in the first half and finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Oklahoma City parlayed 19 Mavs turnovers into 36 points and won the rebounding battle 52-44. The quarter-finals will conclude on Wednesday when the Knicks host the Hawks and the Rockets host the Warriors. The action then shifts to Las Vegas for the semi-finals on Saturday and the final on December 17.

With Vegas beckoning, Gilgeous-Alexander said the game against a Mavs team that ousted them in last year's playoffs had "a little bit of a playoff feel, a little bit more at stake than just a regular-season game. "I'm proud of the team, proud of the guys," he said. "We rose to the moment."

Former Australia pacer Brett Lee shared his pick between Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland ahead of the third Test, of the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), versus India at The Gabba, Brisbane. Hazlewood played the series opener in Perth but missed the following Test, in Adelaide, due to injury (side strain). With him out of the playing XI, Pat Cummins-led hosts brought in Scott Boland for the pink-ball contest. With Hazlewood expected to be fit, Lee shared his choice between Boland and the former.

<h2>'For me, Josh Hazlewood slips straight back in'</h2>

Lee said on Fox Cricket, "Look it’s a tough one but you’d have to go back on form and what Josh Hazlewood has done. For me, Josh Hazlewood slips straight back in. If he’s fully fit he gets the new ball or at least is definitely back in the team."

He further opined, "It’s unfortunate for Scott Boland because when he’s had his opportunity he’s nailed it. I look at Scott Boland and I probably think he’s a bit like MacGill playing in the Warne era. MacGill took 200 Test wickets bowling when Shane Warne was either injured or out for other reasons. So he was a quality, quality bowler."

"Boland could be in any team around the world. Any playing nation. But unfortunately, when you’ve got Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood, they’re still doing the business and they’re in his way at the moment. It’s nothing against Boland because he’s bowled the house down," added Lee.

Hazlewood had a good outing in the Perth Test, which Australia lost by 295 runs. He ended with a five-wicket match haul. Boland, on the other hand, also had an impressive run in Adelaide, with match figures of 5 for 105. Cummins &amp; Co. won the day-night Test by ten wickets, riding on Travis Head's 140, Mitchell Starc's six-fer in the first innings and captain's 5 for 57 in the second essay.

The third Test kicks off on December 14 (Saturday) with the ongoing BGT edition interestingly poised at 1-1.&nbsp;
