Ralph Regenvanu, Vanuatu’s special envoy for climate change and environment, was speaking during a hearing at the Peace Palace in The Hague on Monday and said that the responsibility for the climate crisis falls with a "handful of readily identifiable states" that had produced the vast majority of greenhouse gas emissions, however, stood to lose the least from these impacts.&nbsp;

Regenvanu further said that Pacific islands such as Vanuatu have been dealing with the brunt of rising sea levels and increasing frequent and severe disasters, adding, "We find ourselves on the frontlines of a crisis we did not create."

In March last year, the UN General Assembly unanimously approved a resolution, calling on the ICJ to provide an advisory opinion on what obligations states have to tackle climate change and what the legal consequences could be if they fail to do so.&nbsp;

In the next two weeks, the international court will be hearing statements from 98 countries with the greatest historical responsibility for climate emergence, including Russia and Britain.&nbsp;

The ICJ will also hear statements from the states that have contributed very little to global greenhouse gas emissions, however, still stand to face the impact of climate change, including Bangladesh and Sudan as well as Pacific island countries.&nbsp;

Further, the world's biggest emitters, the US and China, will also make statements.&nbsp;

Regenvanu told the court that states continue to emit huge amounts of greenhouse gases even though there have been "increasingly dire warnings" from scientists saying that the emissions had increased by over 50 per cent since 1990.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Ilan Kiloe, the legal counsel for the Melanesian Spearhead Group, a regional subgroup that includes Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu, said, “The harsh reality is that many of our peoples will not survive.”

Kiloe added that the climate crisis threatened the right of states to self-determination and that the injustice of climate change was inseparable from colonialism, which these countries had been subjected to by “a few readily identifiable states”.

Reacting to the full pardon, Hunter said:&nbsp;"I will never take the clemency I have been given today for granted and will devote the life I have rebuilt to helping those who are still sick and suffering."

In a statement, the US president claimed,&nbsp;"No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son — and that is wrong."

"I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department's decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted," he&nbsp;said.

"The charges in his cases came about only after several of my political opponents in Congress instigated them to attack me and oppose my election.

"Here’s the truth: I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process, and it led to a miscarriage of justice—and once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further.

"I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision," he added.

The pardon marks a stark departure from Biden’s earlier position. As recently as June, Joe Biden said that he would neither pardon nor commute any sentence for his son Hunter Biden.

A Florida woman is scheduled to be sentenced on Monday (Dec. 2), after she was found guilty of second-degree murder for zipping her boyfriend in a suitcase and leaving him inside for hours until he died.&nbsp;

47-year-old Sarah Boone, who was found guilty in October, now faces up to life in prison. Her prosecutors said that she zipped her boyfriend Jorge Torres, Jr., into a suitcase and recorded a video of herself taunting him before leaving him stuck inside the suitcase overnight to die.&nbsp;

State Attorney Andrew Bain issued a news release, stating that the couple was drinking alcohol and playing a game of hide-and-seek in February 2020.&nbsp;

They then thought "it would be funny" to get in a suitcase as part of the game, according to an arrest affidavit from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Boone said that Torres voluntarily hopped into the suitcase, and she zipped it, the news release read. She then recorded herself "taunting" her boyfriend as he asked her to let him out. However, she then went upstairs to sleep, the release added.&nbsp;

When Boone woke up in the morning, she found Torres unresponsive in the suitcase and called 911, a release from Bain's office stated.&nbsp;

Videos found on Boone’s phone that included Torres “frantically pleading to be released while Boone laughed and rebuffed him several times” were presented at trial, it added.&nbsp;

“In the videos she recorded, the victim could be heard telling the defendant he could not breathe and asking to be let out of the suitcase,” the release read. “Boone responded with, ‘That’s what you get,’ ‘That’s what I feel like when you cheat on me’ and other taunts.”

According to the release, her boyfriend was seen saying, "I can't f*****g breathe, seriously." He was also pushing in the suitcase and trying to get out, the video showed, as per the affidavit.&nbsp;

Boone testified in her own defence for around five hours, according to CNN affiliate WESH. Her defence team argued that she suffered from "battered spouse syndrome" and was afraid of Torres, WESH reported.&nbsp;
