Bird flu has infected more than 500 dairy herds in top milk state California, and more than 700 nationwide since March, according to the US&nbsp;Department of Agriculture, raising concerns of the impact to farmers and the milk supply as well as the risk to human health from ongoing spread.

Nearly 60 people have contracted the virus since April, most of them workers on infected poultry and dairy farms, according to the US&nbsp;Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The symptoms have been mild and CDC officials have said the risk to the general public from bird flu is low.

The agency will begin the testing on December&nbsp;16, Vilsack said.

The pace of testing will depend on whether virus is detected in initial sampling, said Rosemary Sifford, USDA's chief veterinarian.

At least three people died Saturday when an apartment complex in The Hague collapsed after a huge explosion and fire, authorities said, with little hope of finding survivors under the rubble.

The blast and resulting inferno destroyed at least five homes but it was not clear how many people were buried in the debris, Mayor Jan van Zanen told reporters.

Police confirmed that three bodies had been pulled from the wreckage, as fears mounted that the toll could rise much higher.

An AFP reporter on-site saw scenes of devastation with debris strewn across the street, burned-out cars, blown-out windows and huge plumes of smoke.

Firefighters tackled the blaze from the ground and from huge cherry-pickers, as ambulances carried the injured to the hospital and police helicopters circled overhead.

The cause of the blast was not immediately clear but police appealed for information about a car seen speeding away from the scene shortly after the explosion.

Van Zanen said there was a small explosion followed by a larger one and a huge fire.

After firefighters had extinguished the blaze, heavy construction equipment moved in to try to clear the rubble.

Elite rescue workers trained to recover survivors from natural disasters scoured the debris, with the help of sniffer dogs.

"I was asleep and suddenly there was this huge bang," Adam Muller, a 14-year-old local resident, told AFP.

"I looked out of the window and just saw flames. It's a massive shock," he added.

<h2>'Like an earthquake'&nbsp;</h2>

Authorities warned locals to keep their windows shut and shut off ventilation systems due to the smoke.

Forensic investigators arrived on the scene to begin to probe a potential cause of the blast, an AFP reporter said.

"Shortly after the explosion, at around 6:15 am, a car drove away at very high speed," police said in a statement.

"The police would like to get in touch with people who saw this car driving or who may have camera footage."

The three floors of the building consisted of shops on the ground floors and five two-storey apartments, authorities said, with living rooms on the second floor and bedrooms on the top.

"It was like an earthquake," said a 53-year-old man who identified himself as Dimi, declining to give his family name.

"Something collapsed but we didn't see where it came from. I know these neighbours. My kids go to school with them."

"My new car has also been seriously damaged," he added.

Hospitals in the area were on standby to treat victims.&nbsp;

Residents told local media the apartment block was mainly inhabited by elderly people and families with children.

Around 40 residents of other blocks near the collapsed building have been evacuated. Some have been taken away by bus to an unknown location.

Prime Minister Dick Schoof wrote on X that he was "shocked by the terrible images of a collapsed apartment building in The Hague."

"My thoughts go out to the victims, all other people involved and the emergency services who are now working on the scene," said Schoof.

He said he had been in contact with the city authorities and promised any help necessary.

Dutch King Willem-Alexander wrote on social media: "We sympathise with those personally affected or are worried about their loved-ones."

Ghana's government temporarily closed all land borders on Friday night through Sunday to "ensure the integrity" of the vote, an interior ministry statement said.

"Other elections have not been as obvious," Mahama said voting in his northern hometown. "With this one everybody can tell the direction because of the abysmal performance of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government."

Some analysts gave him an edge because of voter dismay with NPP economics, but the former president faced criticism from those who remember financial woes and massive power cuts during his time in office.

First-time voter and visual arts student Abdullah Mohammed, 19, said he may have benefited from Akufo-Addo's free high school programme, but he saw the need for change with high costs weighing on families.

"I just want a good president who will bring changes. I don't really care if it is Bawumia or Mahama," he said in Accra's Nima district.

Shoe saleswoman Esther Adobea said the economic situation was on her mind, but she was willing to give Bawumia a chance to make things better.

"I can see he can handle the country for us. Our economy is not good but he can do better," she said in the Ayawaso area.

Both major candidates are from the north of the country -- traditionally an NDC stronghold, but now more fragmented -- making the region a key battleground.

While the economy was key, Ghana also faces an increasing risk of spillover in its northern regions from jihadist conflicts in Niger and Burkina Faso, where military juntas rule after coups.

He had travelled to ICON Park with his friends during spring break when the tragedy struck. The 14-year-old fell off the Orlando FreeFall, one of the tallest rides in the world, which drops passengers from a height of 430 feet. Because of Tyre’s size, the shoulder harness could not pin him down adequately and ejected him when the ride braked at 70 feet from the ground. This particular ride did not have seat belts and was shut down by authorities after the incident and later demolished. They argued that adding seat belts – which is commonplace on similar rides – would have cost just $660 to install. The absence of this basic safety feature on the ride has become one of the key focuses in the case. “We can’t bring Tyre back, but we can make sure this never happens to anyone else,” Tyre’s mother, Nekia Dodd, said following the verdict.
