Washington said it would provide the information only upon his appearance in a New York court and arraignment in the case, Indian news agency PTI reported. Earlier, a court had asked the Biden administration to respond to a motion filed by lawyers of Gupta seeking material relating to charges against him. US District Judge Victor Marrero said in a court order that on January 4, defence counsel filed a motion to compel production of discovery, and directing the government to begin providing defence counsel with such discovery material. "The Court hereby directs the government to file a reply to the Motion to Compel within three days of the date of this order," the judge had said. The charges against Nikhil Gupta Federal prosecutors in the US had charged that Gupta, 52, was working with an Indian government employee in the foiled plot to kill Pannun. According to US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Matthew G. Olsen, Gupta had been charged with murder-for-hire and conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, both of which carry a 10-year-prison sentence. Prosecutors said that Czech authorities arrested and detained Gupta on June 30, 2023, under the bilateral extradition treaty between the United States and the Czech Republic. India has already constituted a probe committee to investigate allegations, PTI reported. Pannun has been charged in India for advocating separatism and holding referendums overseas to carve out an independent Sikh state- Khalistan. In November last year, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a case against him under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 and sections of the Indian Penal Code. The case was filed after the Khalistani terrorist threatened flag carrier Air India's passengers in a video, saying that their lives were in danger. New Delhi had listed Pannun as an "individual terrorist" in 2020 for what it said is challenging India's security by financing violence and issuing appeals to "Punjab-based gangsters and youth" to fight for Khalistan. Iranian navy has seized an oil tanker off the coast of Oman as a retaliation for "theft" of oil from the same ship by the United States, country's state media reported on Thursday (January 11). The state media reports came just hours after statement by British-navy maritime security agency saying that armed men had boarded St Nikolas, the Greek-owned ship which was flying a Marshall Islands flag. After Iranian navy seized the ship, it changed course towards Bandar-e-Jask in Iran.

Confirmation from Iran's navy came later. The navy said that it indeed has seized the ship which was previously called Suez Rajan.

"The Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran seized an American oil tanker in the waters of the Gulf of Oman in accordance with a court order," the official IRNA news agency said.

IRNA report said that seizure of the ship was in retaliation for "violation committed by the Suez Rajan ship... and the theft of Iranian oil by the United States."

Iran has in past responded in tit-for-tat manner after Iranian oil shipments were seized. US sanctions seek to reduce Iran's energy exports by targetting the country's oil and petrochemical sales.

Iran and the US had reached landmark nuclear deal under former US president Barack Obama. But his successor Donald Trump withdrew US out of the deal. This reimposed crippling US sanctions on Iran.

AFP quoted Ambrey, a British maritime risk company which said that personnel who boarded the ship covered cameras &nbsp;on the ship.The company added that a security officer "reported hearing unknown voices over the phone along with the master's voice".

Empire Navigation, the Greece-based company which manages the oil tanker told AFP that communication with the ship had been lost. The company said there were 19 crew members on the ship - 19 filipinos and one Greek.

The company said further that the ship loaded with 145,000 tonnes of crude oil in Basra, Iraq and was due to reach Aliaga in Turkey via the Suez Canal.

As per Ambrey, the ship was renamed secretly and was previously prosecuted and even fined for carrying Iranian oil. The ship was confiscated at that time by US authorities.

Iranian navy's public relations office, as quoted by IRNA, said that the oil tanker was being transferred to the "ports of the Islamic republic for delivery to the judicial authorities".

Families of two prisoners who died in separate jails&nbsp;in Alabama, USA have taken the state to court after it was found that internal organs were missing from their bodies when they were returned to their loved ones. The federal lawsuit filed by family of late Brandon Clay Dotson has accused that his body was decomposing and his heart was missing when the remains were handed over by the prison&nbsp;authorities. A court filing in the case also mentions that daughter of Charles Edward Singleton, another prisoner who died in jail, found that all of her father's internal organs were missing.

The Associated Press qouted Lauren Faraino, Dotson family lawyer as saying that as multiple families have had this experience, this is “absolutely part of a pattern.”

On November 16, Dotson was found dead at Ventress Correctional Facility. When his boy was handed over to the family, they suspected foul play and hired a pathologist who carried out a second autopsy. It was then found that the heart was missing from the dead body, says the lawsuit. The family is asking the state the reason behind this and is demanding that the heart be returned.

<h2>A 'grave robbery'</h2>

“Defendants’ outrageous and inexcusable mishandling of the deceased’s body amounts to a reprehensible violation of human dignity and common decency,” says the lawsuit, as per AP.

“...their appalling misconduct is nothing short of grave robbery and mutilation.” it adds.

Faraino said that&nbsp;on making inquiries, the family found&nbsp;there had been several such cases.

He added, “Do you know why people choose a newspaper there? To cover themselves. Because with a newspaper…it is much warmer to sleep for example than without one. And so you need a newspaper so as not to freeze.”

Navalny’s arguments have reportedly prompted a detailed discussion with the judge and a representative of the justice ministry on prison libraries, meal arrangements and cell furnishings.&nbsp;

On Wednesday morning, soldiers, police officers and prison staff staged a protest in the PNG capital city of Port Moresby after noticing their pay had been docked without explanation.&nbsp;

However, as the day progressed, parts of the capital began witnessing unrest. AFP citing videos from social media reported that crowds were seen looting shops while the police scrambled to restore order.&nbsp;

“It’s unfortunate that the situation has turned out this way, so uncalled for,” said police commissioner David Manning. He added, “But we are doing all we can to control the situation in the city.”

Extra police were being moved into Port Moresby from regional areas, said Manning in a statement.&nbsp;

The extent of damage and casualties, if any, was not immediately clear but Parkop said, “Some people sadly lost their life today.” He added, “We have seen unprecedented level of strife in our city, something that has never happened before in the history of our city and our country.”&nbsp;

While it was the security forces that started the demonstrations, it was not clear if they were responsible for the violence that followed. An AFP correspondent said a mix of “police, soldiers and civilians” appeared to be involved.

Fires were seen burning across the city on Wednesday, and according to a report by PNG Post Courier newspaper firefighters had been threatened as they tried to do their jobs. The guard house at parliament had also reportedly been burnt.&nbsp;

The United States embassy said shots had been fired near its compound and advised its employees to shelter in place until further notice.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the Australian High Commission said that it has stepped up security measures.

Paramedics were called to treat victims of shootings and an explosion amid a “significant emergency situation,” reported&nbsp;Australia’s 9News.&nbsp;
