The port and health authorities in Mauritius confirmed that the passengers had gastroenteritis, not cholera. Port Louis, on Saturday (Feb 24), said that it blocked the ship “in order to avoid any health risks”.

Health samples were collected from the 15 passengers with the suspected illness. The passengers in question were experiencing mild symptoms of a stomach-related illness during the ship’s trip to South Africa on February 13, said the United States-headquartered Norwegian Cruise Line, in a statement.&nbsp;

The director of the Mauritius Ministry of Health, Dr Bhooshun Ori, as per local media reports, later confirmed that the passengers were suffering from gastroenteritis and have now “fully recovered”.&nbsp;

In a press conference, Dr Ori said that since the results of the tests were negative, the ship should be able to dock in the coming hours.&nbsp;

<h2>What now?</h2>

“The health and safety of passengers as well as that of the country as a whole are of the utmost to the authorities,” Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings said in a statement, on Sunday.&nbsp;

The US State Department has expressed deep concern over the army's decision to block cross-border humanitarian aid and reports of obstruction of assistance to communities in areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In a statement on Friday, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said the United States was deeply concerned by the army's "recent decision to prohibit cross border humanitarian assistance from Chad and reports that the SAF is obstructing assistance from reaching communities in areas controlled by the RSF".

<h2>Embattled Darfur</h2>

Darfur, bordering Chad, has been heavily affected by the Sudanese Armed Forces' conflict with the paramilitary RSF over the past 10 months.

The RSF, descendants of the Janjaweed militia known for their brutal campaigns in Darfur, have seized control of four out of five Darfur state capitals in their ongoing battle against the army.

The conflict, as per AFP, has made more than 694,000 people flee across the border into Chad, according to the International Organization for Migration. However, many others remain trapped in Darfur, requiring urgent assistance.

As per reports, while earlier, the&nbsp;United Nations had to limit its work in Darfur to cross-border operations from Chad, last week the UN's World Food Programme (WFP) country director Eddie Rowe told reporters that "authorities have restricted the Chad cross-border operation" as well.

<h2>Sudan dismisses concerns</h2>

Dismissing concerns, Sudan's foreign ministry, which reportedly is loyal to the army, dismissed these concerns as "false accusations," by Washington.

Expressing "confusion", the ministry emphasised that the Sudan-Chad border is the main crossing point for weapons and equipment" used in committing "atrocities" against Sudanese.

A January UN experts' report revealed credible evidence that the United Arab Emirates was providing "military support" to the RSF through Chad, a claim denied by the UAE.

In Brussels, the WFP's Eddie Rowe stated that the agency is working with authorities to ensure the continuation of aid from Chad, emphasising its critical importance.

The conflict in Darfur has claimed thousands of lives, with up to 15,000 deaths reported in the city of El Geneina alone, according to UN experts.

As of 9:00 am (local time) on Sunday, the voter turnout stood at 43.64 per cent hours after the polling stations officially opened, said the Belarusian Central Election Commission, as per the Associated Press.

Belarusian opposition leader <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/us-imposes-visa-restrictions-on-25-people-in-belarus-including-lawmakers-over-politically-motivated-trial-553574">Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya</a> who is living in exile in neighbouring Lithuania released a statement urging voters to boycott the election.&nbsp;

“There are no people on the ballot who would offer real changes because the regime only has allowed puppets convenient for it to take part,” Tsikhanouskaya, who stood against Lukashenko in the 2020 presidential election, said in a video statement.&nbsp;

She added, “We are calling to boycott this senseless farce, to ignore this election without choice.”&nbsp;

Tsikhanouskaya also said that the regime’s attempt to use these “fake elections to legitimise its power will not be successful” and called on the international community not to recognise the outcome of the ballot.&nbsp;

The contentious 2020 election which saw Lukashenko win a sixth term in office, led to an unprecedented wave of mass protests across the country where tens of thousands took to the streets for months. More than 35,000 people were arrested.&nbsp;

The United States condemned what it called “sham” elections being held in Belarus on Sunday. “The elections were held in a climate of fear under which no electoral processes could be called democratic,” said State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.

Election officials said more than 40 per cent of the country’s voters cast their ballots during early voting. However, Viasna Human Rights Center said students, soldiers, teachers and other civil servants were forced to participate in early voting.&nbsp;

"Legitimate protests hijacked by extremists to promote and glorify terrorism, elected representatives verbally threatened and physically, violently targeted and antisemitic tropes beamed onto our own Parliament building," he said, with reference to an offensive projection on the Palace of Westminster recently.

"And in Parliament this week a very dangerous signal was sent that this sort of intimidation works. It is toxic for our society and our politics and is an affront to the liberties and values we hold dear here in Britain," he said of the scenes of chaos in the Commons last week over a Gaza ceasefire vote.&nbsp;

US authorities have arrested an Indian-origin person in Chicago, a key suspect in a 2022 human trafficking case involving the death of four persons from the Indian state of Gujarat. Harshkumar Patel was taken into custody at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.

The four individuals, hailing from one family, were found dead near the US-Canada border. The victims, Jagdish Patel (39), his wife Vaishali (37), and their two children -- Vihangi (11) and Dharmik (3), were from Dingucha, near Gujarat’s Gandhinagar.

Harshkumar Patel’s case is slated for hearing on Feb 28, with news broadcaster CBC reporting his trial might be transferred to Minnesota.

Harshkumar has been charged with the criminal offence of "transportation of illegal alien and conspiracy to bring and attempt to bring an illegal alien to the United States".

As per US authorities, text messages exchanged between Steve Shand and Harshkumar reveal that the intricate web of international human trafficking racket originates from Gujarat.

Before his arrest, US authorities had already identified other key suspects in the case, including Fenil Patel in Canada and Bittu Singh, also known as Paji, in the US.

Russia has blamed the United States, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine for the blasts, which cut off Russian gas supply to its lucrative European market. However, the countries have denied responsibility.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, some Western officials have said Russian naval vessels were in the area at the time of the blasts.&nbsp;

<h2>Sweden closes investigation; Germany to continue</h2>

Swedish prosecutors, on Wednesday (Feb 7) said that they have dropped their investigation into the case.&nbsp;

“The conclusion of the investigation is that Swedish jurisdiction does not apply and that the investigation therefore should be closed,” the Swedish Prosecution Authority said in a statement.

The Danish police had previously confirmed that the pipelines were hit by powerful explosions and Swedish investigators confirmed traces of explosives on the site showing that sabotage had taken place.

Swedish prosecutors concluded that nothing had emerged to indicate that Sweden or Swedish citizens were involved in the attack which took place “in international waters” and therefore their “jurisdiction does not apply.”&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the German government is still “very interested” in getting to the bottom of the reported sabotage, a spokesperson said in Berlin on Monday and will continue to investigate the incident.

An attack on a mosque in eastern Burkina Faso on Monday (Feb 26) claimed the lives of dozens of Muslims, following another deadly attack on Catholics attending mass, reported news agency AFP citing security sources.

"Armed individuals attacked a mosque in Natiaboani on Sunday around 5&nbsp;am, resulting in several dozen being killed," a security source said.&nbsp;

"The victims were all Muslims, most of them men" who had come for morning prayers, a local resident said by telephone.

"The terrorists entered the town early morning. They surrounded the mosque and shot at the faithful, who were gathered there for the first prayer of the day," another local source said according to AFP.

"Several of them were shot, including an important religious leader," the source added.

Hours before the mosque attack, at least 15 civilians were killed and two others were wounded in a "terrorist" attack on a Catholic church during Sunday mass in northern Burkina Faso.

"We bring to your attention a terrorist attack which the Catholic community of Essakane village was the victim of today, February 25, while they were gathered for Sunday prayer," the vicar of the Dori diocese, Jean-Pierre Sawadogo, said in a statement.

Sawadogo denounced "those who continue to wreak death and desolation in our country," and called for peace and security in the country.

The village of Essakane is located in the northeast of the country, close to the shared borders of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. This area is referred to as the "three borders" zone.

A member of the United States Air Force who self-immolated outside the Israeli embassy in Washington has died, American media reported on Monday (Feb 26). The man's identity has not been revealed yet. He set himself on fire on Sunday afternoon.&nbsp;

The man was transported to a local hospital nearby by DC Fire and EMS after the fire was put out by the United States Secret Service (USSS).&nbsp;He was reportedly on fire for about a minute before law enforcement put it out.

On X, the DC Police Department reported that the "MPD (Metropolitan Police Department) responded to the 3500 block of International Drive, NW, at approximately 1:00 pm&nbsp;to assist the United States Secret Service after an individual set themselves on fire in front of an embassy in the block."

As per subsequent statements, the USSS and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were called in to investigate the incident.
