A few states of the US&nbsp;have been identified the most dangerous ones to live in, based on a study conducted by personal injury attorneys. A research based on WHO's database has found that the mortality rates in the US&nbsp;are 2.5 times higher than the average rates in countries which have a similar income.&nbsp;

The deaths are majorly caused by homicide, transport accidents, drug overdose, suicides, negligence in treating cardiovascular diseases and an increase in disease mortality&nbsp;rate.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A new study conducted by Caputo and Van Der Walde Injury &amp; Accident Attorneys has identified 10 factors on which each state is compared which includes traffic fatalities, firearm mortality, railway injuries and crimes against persons so that they can assess which states are the most dangerous ones.

The study revealed 5 states to be most dangerous.&nbsp;

A man in his sixties ploughed his car into a crowd of people in the South Korean capital Seoul on Monday (Jul 1), killing at least nine people. The incident took place at 9:30 pm local time as the pedestrians waited at a traffic stop. Police said at least four people were taken to hospital and were being treated.

Local media reported the car was moving in the wrong direction and crashed into two other vehicles before hitting the pedestrians.

The man was immediately detained near Seoul city hall. He is understood to have told police that his car accidentally accelerated, killing six people on the spot. Three later succumbed to their injuries.

According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the speed limit in South Korea is 50kmph on urban roads and 30kmph in residential areas.

Pedestrians are the most common casualties in road accidents in the country. In 2022, an OECD report revealed that pedestrians accounted for 35 per cent of all road-related deaths. However, the report also mentioned that road fatalities in South Korea have declined over the past years.

Monday's incident was the latest drama involving a Boeing plane, after a fuselage panel blew out of an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX in January as well as two crashes in 2018 and 2019 that killed 346 people in total.

In March, the US aviation giant announced the departure of CEO Dave Calhoun as it faced intense scrutiny on safety and manufacturing standards.

Mohammed Abu Salmiya, the head of the Gaza Strip's biggest hospital, Al-Shifa, was freed on Monday (Jul 1) from more than seven months of detention. Palestinian border officials said that the Israeli authorities released 54 Palestinians who were detained during the war, Salamiya was one of them. After being released, Salmiya alleged that he and other prisoners were put through "severe torture" in Israeli prisons.&nbsp;

Salamiya was arrested by IDF troops during one of the raids on Al-Shifa in November&nbsp;on the suspicion of having allowed Hamas to use the Gaza City hospital as a centre of operations. He was taken for questioning by the Shin Bet as he was attempting to evacuate to the south of the Gaza Strip via an IDF-operated humanitarian corridor.

Israel claimed that the Palestine-based Hamas had been using the hospital for military purposes, which the militant group denies.&nbsp;

The military even released the hospital's CCTV footage from October 7 showing gunmen and hostages on the premises. The military also took journalists into a tunnel found at the complex.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir on Monday demanded the ouster of Shin Bet director Ronen Bar, after the release&nbsp;of Shifa Hospital director from jail. 
 
Ben Gvir took to X, claiming that the decision to free the hospital director “along with dozens of terrorists” was an act of “security recklessness.” 
 
After a furore over Salamiya’s release, ministers and senior security officials traded blame and sought to avoid responsibility.&nbsp; 
 
As translated by the news agency Reuters, Salmiya said, "We were subjected to severe torture, and my little finger was broken. I was repeatedly subjected to hitting on the head, causing bleeding multiple times."&nbsp;

"There was almost daily torture in the Israeli prisons. When prisoners' cells were raided daily, they were severely beaten every day. We say this with full certainty, and we lived through it with great bitterness," Salamiya said, further adding that no charge had ever been made against him.&nbsp;

He claimed that tens of thousands of prisoners have been left behind. They are living in hardship, experiencing "psychological and physical torture that&nbsp;no Palestinian prisoner has experienced since the Nakba in 1948". He said no prisoner ate more than a loaf of bread a day for two months.&nbsp;

He also claimed that many prisoners died while they were in interrogation and were deprived of medicine and food.&nbsp;

Tuo Jiang-class stealth missile corvettes are fast, small and agile ships. Four of such ships have already been commissioned in the Navy, along with a prototype commissioned in 2015.

The four ships that have already been commissioned are: Ta Jiang, Fu Jiang, Hsu Jiang and Wu Jiang.

“The second batch of five more corvettes is expected to be completed and delivered by the end of 2026,” the source said.

<h2>Features of Tuo Jiang-class stealth missile corvettes</h2>

Just 60.4 metres long and 14 metres wide, these ships have a wave-piercing catamaran design. With a maximum speed of 83 kmph, they have an operational range of 1,800 nautical miles.

The ships are armed with Hsiung Feng II and III anti-ship missiles and can attack enemy targets on land or sea. They are also equipped with 76mm cannons, Phalanx close-in weapon systems and T74 machine guns.

Most importantly, the ships are equipped with stealth technology, which makes it easier for them to operate in shallow waters while avoiding being detected.

<h2>Taiwan-China tensions</h2>

The development comes at a time when Beijing has increasingly adopted a hostile approach towards Taiwan. Since the election of a new leader, William Lai Ching-te, in January this year, Taiwan has faced increased pressure from the PLA.

China sees Taiwan as a part of its territory, a view disputed by the democratic world, especially the US.

Last month, tensions escalated between the two nations after a standoff was reported between the coastguards of Taiwan and China, in the waters off Quemoy, a Taiwan-controlled defence outpost also known as Kinmen.

Features of Tuo Jiang-class stealth missile corvettes Just 60.4 metres long and 14 metres wide, these ships have a wave-piercing catamaran design. With a maximum speed of 83 kmph, they have an operational range of 1,800 nautical miles. The ships are armed with Hsiung Feng II and III anti-ship missiles and can attack enemy targets on land or sea. They are also equipped with 76mm cannons, Phalanx close-in weapon systems and T74 machine guns. Taiwan-China tensions The development comes at a time when Beijing has increasingly adopted a hostile approach towards Taiwan. Since the election of a new leader, William Lai Ching-te, in January this year, Taiwan has faced increased pressure from the PLA. China sees Taiwan as a part of its territory, a view disputed by the democratic world, especially the US. Last month, tensions escalated between the two nations after a standoff was reported between the coastguards of Taiwan and China, in the waters off Quemoy, a Taiwan-controlled defence outpost also known as Kinmen.
