Youn channelled his grief into advocating for mandated GPS tracking of aggravated assault offenders in domestic violence cases, and his efforts culminated in the passage of the new law.

Average tuition fees in the UK are around 9,250 pounds per year.

The loan terms can last up to 30 years, after which they are often written off.

According to data published by Britain's Department of Education, student loan balance reached 236.2 billion pounds as of 2023-24, including new lending and interest.&nbsp;

This is a massive rise from a decade ago, when loan balances were 54.4 billion pounds in 2013-14. The figure for 2022-23 was at 205.6 billion, nearly 15 per cent less than the subsequent financial year.

It noted that new lending and interest added to existing balances outweigh repayments and write-offs.

It quoted Tom Allingham of the website Save The Student as saying that the debts were "alarming."

As the UK goes into elections this week, none of the parties have taken up student debt as an issue, something the National Union of Students (NUS) termed 'ridiculous'.

BBC quoted Ben Waltmann of the Institute of Fiscal Studies as saying that those who took Plan 2 loans, introduced when fees were tripled, are unlikely to pay back fully.

Several seats and the ceiling of the aircraft were badly damaged, while there were unverified claims that a man got stuck after being thrown upwards into an overhead compartment.

"Our flight bound for Montevideo was diverted to Natal due to strong turbulence,” The airline said in a statement.

"The plane landed normally and those injured of varying severity are already being treated," the statement further read.

Brazilian health authorities reported 30 passengers from the Air Europa flight received treatment at Natal hospitals for minor cuts and bruises, or injuries to bones or muscles.

Air Europa informed that a second plane would be sent from Madrid to pick up the passengers and continue the trip to Uruguay.

Uruguay's foreign ministry said in a statement that passengers in need of medical attention were taken to the Monsenhor Walfredo Gurgel hospital in Natal.

As per a 2023 study,&nbsp;the annual duration of clear air turbulence increased by 17 per cent from 1979 to 2020, with the most severe cases increasing by more than 50 per cent.

Donald Trump has repetitively claimed that he could resolve the Russia-Ukraine war in one day if re-elected as president. However, Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations disagrees, stating that Trump&nbsp;cannot.

When asked to reply to the claims from Trump, Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia told reporters on Monday (Jul&nbsp;1) that the Ukrainian crisis cannot be solved in a&nbsp;day.

“Russians and Ukrainians are dying and I want them to stop dying. I'll have that done in 24 hours," Trump stated.&nbsp;

He mentioned that this would happen after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He continued&nbsp;to repeat this claim on the campaign trail.

During last week’s debate with President Joe Biden, Trump claimed, “If we had a real president, a president that knew that was respected by Putin ... he would have never invaded Ukraine.”

While Nebenzia said the war could have ended in April 2022 in Istanbul when Russia and Ukraine were “very close” to an agreement. Moscow invaded its neighbour two months before, i.e. on Feb. 24, 2022, though Russia insists its “special military operation” began in 2014 after clashes in Ukraine’s east resulted in Moscow seizing the Crimea Peninsula.

The Russian ambassador further blamed Ukraine’s Western backers for blocking the April 2022 peace deal and telling Kyiv to keep fighting Russia.

“Zelensky is going around with his so-called peace plan which is not a peace plan but a gag,” Nebenzia said.

Nebenzia also highlighted Putin’s offer that was presented on June 14 to immediately order a cease-fire in Ukraine and start negotiations if Kyiv begins withdrawing troops from the four regions annexed by Moscow in 2022 and renounces plans to join NATO.

Zelensky, who has vowed not to give up any territory, rejected what he called an ultimatum by Putin to surrender more land.

Jan told BBC, "If you take a lot of medicine, you live like a zombie. So with the pain I have, and Els’ illness, I think we have to stop this.”

In a painful admission, Els said, "There is no other solution."

Jan and Els's son recalled to BBC having the last dinner with his parents.&nbsp;

“I remember we were having dinner in the evening, and I got tears in my eyes just watching us all having that final dinner together," said their son, who chose to remain anonymous.

Kenya's human rights body has given an updated death toll of 39 in the wake of protests against the much-hated financial reforms of President William Ruto's government.

In a release on Monday (July 1) marking two weeks since the protests began, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) said 29 people have died and 361 were injured in relation to the protests.

Postmortems of most victims are yet to be conducted, it said.

The dead included 17 from capital Nairobi, four from Uasin Gishu and three each from Mombasa, Makuru and Kajiado.

The report also said that there have been 32 cases of enforced or involuntary disappearances and 627 arrests of Anti-Finance Bill protesters.

In a dramatic political development, Nepal's two largest parties - Nepali Congress and CPN-UML - have inked a midnight power-sharing deal to form a new 'national consensus government' to replace the coalition government led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) chairman and former prime minister K P Sharma Oli, reached an understanding on forming a new coalition on Monday midnight, according to former foreign minister Narayan Prakash Saud.

Deuba, 78 and Oli, 72, agreed to share the Prime Ministerial position on a rotation basis for the rest of the term of the Parliament, said Saud, who is also a Nepali Congress central member.

Nepali Congress, the largest party in the House of Representatives (HoR) has 89 seats at present while CPN-UML has 78 seats. The combined strength of the two large parties is 167, which is sufficient for a majority of 138 seats in the 275-member HoR.

The two leaders also met on Saturday to lay the ground for a potential new political alliance between the two parties, following which Oli's CPN-UML ended its association with the Prachanda-led government barely four months after extending support to it.

Under the agreement that is likely to be finalised on Tuesday, the CPN-UML chief Oli will lead the government in the first phase of the remaining term of Parliament.

The two leaders have agreed to share the premiership for one and a half years, turn by turn, Saud said. 
The two leaders tentatively agreed to form a new government, amend the Constitution, and work out a power-sharing formula, which they reportedly shared with a few confidants, media reports said, quoting multiple senior leaders from both parties.

Nepal has had 13 governments in the last 16 years, indicating the fragile nature of the Himalayan nation's political system.

The ministers belonging to the CPN-UML in the Prachanda-led Cabinet are likely to resign en-mass in the afternoon, sources close to the CPN-UML said.

CPN-UML secretary Shanker Pokharel has told media persons that an agreement was reached with the Nepali Congress to form a national government led by Oli, a former prime minister.

The new government will be formed to maintain political stability in the country and make necessary amendments to the Constitution. 
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Prachanda is holding talks with CPN-UML chief Oli to discuss the latest political developments, according to sources close to the CPN-Maoist Centre.

Prachanda is not going to resign from the post at this moment. Nothing can be said before the talk being held between Prachanda and Oli concludes, said Ganesh Shah, CPN-Maoist Centre secretary.

According to the agreement reached, during Oli's tenure, the CPN-UML will take control of ministries, including the Prime Minister's position and the Finance Ministry. Similarly, the Nepali Congress will oversee ten ministries, including the Home Ministry, MyRepublica news portal reported.

According to the agreement, the CPN-UML will lead provincial governments in Koshi, Lumbini and Karnali provinces and the Nepali Congress will lead the provincial governments of Bagmati, Gandaki and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Oli and Deuba have also agreed to involve Madhes-based parties in leading Madhesh Province and have committed to constitutional amendments.

The draft agreement was prepared by a four-member task force, The Kathmandu Post newspaper reported. 
It will detail the power-sharing arrangement, propose amendments to the Constitution, review the electoral system, including proportional representation, change national assembly arrangements, and discuss the size of provincial assemblies, according to a task force member.

Differences between Oli and Prime Minister Prachanda had been steadily building, and Oli was unhappy with the recent budget allocations made by the government for the fiscal year 2024-25, which he had publicly spoken about.

Worried by the closed-door meeting between Deuba and Oli, Prachanda had gone to meet Oli to assure that the government is serious about addressing issues raised by CPN-UML, including its concern about the new budget, observers said.

During their meeting on Monday morning, Oli reportedly requested Prachanda to support him by stepping down, the report said.

Prachanda offered Oli the post of prime minister within the current ruling coalition, which the latter turned down, expressing his desire to lead a consensus government, a CPN-UML leader was quoted as saying.
