U.S. President Donald Trump says countries that depend on Middle Eastern oil should help protect the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints. In his remarks, Trump argued that nations like China benefit far more from the route and should join efforts to “police the straits” alongside the United States.
Trump also made sweeping claims about the state of Iran’s military, saying U.S. operations had destroyed Iran’s air defenses and severely weakened its leadership structure. According to him, the conflict has already resulted in major strategic gains and Iran has been pushed toward negotiations.
