India Expands Cervical Cancer Fight as HPV Vaccine Push Grows

India is stepping up efforts to combat cervical cancer, a disease linked to Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections in the vast majority of cases. Reports suggest that the indigenous HPV vaccine Cervavac could become part of a larger national vaccination programme after 2027. Meanwhile, vaccine alliance Gavi is expected to supply 2.6 crore doses to support ongoing immunisation efforts. The move reflects India's growing focus on prevention, early intervention and reducing the burden of one of the country's most common cancers among women.
