“T20 game has evolved from a hitting game to a strategical game,” said Yusuf Pathan during virtual media conference.

When asked about the differences between T20 and T10 game, Pathan stated, “It’s the same game played with bat and ball. Only the number of overs and time will be lessened. Earlier the shortest format was T20, now it’s T10. At end of the day, it’s just cricket.”

On being questioned about the way to go in T10s, the former Indian all-rounder said, “The faster you adapt the strategy for game and wicket, the more successful you ought to become. This game is about which player can handle the pressure and who adapts faster according it.”

“One can’t just go out there and hit boundaries just because it’s a T10 game. There are 60 balls and you need to go with strategy”, he added.

If he is looking to bat at a particular batting position during the Abu Dhabi T10, Pathan revealed in this aspect, "I have played at a number of batting positions during my career and I have always adapted to the team`s needs. The T10 format suits my game. However, my batting position will depend on the team`s strategies. I have always been open to batting at any position for the team."

Ahead of India opening match in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, India batsman Yusuf Pathan has expressed his confidence in the team, saying that team's performance in the last many years has been really good and players are in good form.

"I wish 'Eid Mubarak'&nbsp;to everyone. Indian team's preparation has been very good and they have been playing very good cricket in the last many years and also all the players were in good form during the IPL. It is a big tournament. Inshallah, they will do good," Pathan told ANI on Wednesday.

However, South Africa are on a dismal run as they have lost both the matches.

During the opening match of the World Cup, South Africa faced a massive 104-run defeat at the hands of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/world-cup-chris-woakes-backs-england-to-bounce-back-from-pakistan-defeat-224431">England</a>, followed by a 21-run defeat against Bangladesh.

Therefore, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/south-africa-can-still-reach-world-cup-semis-without-steyn-says-faf-du-plessis-224351">South Africa</a> will be aiming to make a strong comeback in the tournament, but nothing is going well for the Proteas.

Hashim Amla and Lungi Ngidi missed their previous clash against Bangladesh as the former faced a blow to head during their match against England while the latter suffered a hamstring injury.

Moreover, Dale Steyn has also been ruled out of the World Cup owing to shoulder injury.

India, who are one of the favourites in the tournament, have a strong squad under the leadership of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/people-expect-century-but-my-focus-is-on-victory-says-virat-kohli-ahead-of-south-africa-clash-224280">Virat Kohli </a>and the team also feature 2011 World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni.

It will, therefore, be interesting to see whether South Africa manage to revive themselves or India justify their favourite tag.

Yusuf Pathan&nbsp;was <a href="http://www.wionews.com/sports/indian-cricketer-yusuf-pathan-suspended-for-5-months-failing-a-dope-test-28991" target="_blank">suspended by the BCCI for 5 months</a> Tuesday on account of failing a dope test.

On October 27, 2017, Pathan was charged with the commission of an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV) under the BCCI's Anti-Doping Rules (ADR).

According to BCCI,&nbsp;Pathan had provided a urine sample as part of the BCCI’s anti-doping testing program during a domestic T-20 competition on March 16, 2017 in New Delhi.

His sample was subsequently tested and found to contain Terbutaline. Terbutaline, a banned substance, is prohibited both in and out of competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

The five-month ban, which began on August 15, 2017, will end at midnight on January 14, 2018.

Pathan released a statement saying, "I wish to thank the BCCI for allowing me to plead my case in a fair and reasonable manner."

"The prohibited substances were detected in my sample because of a medicine I was taking for a throat infection," he said.

"I should have been more careful and checked the status of the medications with BCCI's dedicated Anti-Doping Helpline," he added.

On receiving the statement from Yusuf Pathan, BCCI is satisfied and convinced&nbsp;that he had taken Terbutaline inadvertently to treat an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI) and not as a performance-enhancing drug.

Having considered all of the evidence and taken expert external advice, the BCCI has accepted Pathan’s explanation of the cause of his ADRV, and on that basis has agreed that a period of ineligibility of five months should apply, together with the disqualification of certain results.

The all-rounder&nbsp;has played 57 ODIs and 22 T20 Internationals for India and will resume his&nbsp;game from 14th January 2018. He has not played for India since 2012 but has been seen in the Indian Premier League, turning up for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Banned substance was in my cough syrup: Yusuf Pathan

Indian all-rounder Yusuf Pathan was&nbsp;handed a five-month retrospective suspension for failing a dope test, a sanction which will end on January 14 after the BCCI accepted his plea that the violation was inadvertent.

"Mr Yusuf Pathan has been suspended for a doping violation. Mr Pathan had inadvertently ingested a prohibited substance, which can be commonly found in cough syrups," the BCCI said in a statement.

The 35-year-old Pathan had provided a urine sample as part of the BCCI's anti-doping testing program during a domestic T20 match between his team Baroda and Tamil Nadu on March 16 last year.
"His sample was subsequently tested and found to contain Terbutaline. Terbutaline, a specified substance, is prohibited both In and Out of Competition in the WADA Prohibited List of Substances," the BCCI stated.

Pathan, on his part, said he was confident of being cleared of deliberate usage and vowed to be more careful in future.

"Competing for India and my home state Baroda has been a matter of immense pride and encouragement for me and I would never act in any manner to bring my motherland or Baroda, in any kind of disrepute," Pathan said in a statement.

"In hindsight, I should have been more careful and checked the status of the medications with BCCI's dedicated Anti-Doping Helpline," he added.

The all-rounder, who has played 57 ODIs and 22 T20 Internationals for India, was charged with the "commission of an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) under the BCCI Anti- Doping Rules (ADR) Article 2.1 and provisionally suspended pending determination of the charge".

He has not played for India since 2012 but has been seen in the Indian Premier League, turning up for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

"Mr Pathan responded to the charge by admitting the ADRV and asserting that it was caused by his ingestion of a medication containing Terbutaline that had been mistakenly given to him instead of the medication prescribed for him, which did not contain any prohibited substance," the BCCI explained.

The BCCI said it is "satisfied" with Pathan's explanation that was using the medication to "treat an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI) and not as a performance-enhancing drug".

"Having considered all of the evidence and taken expert external advice, the BCCI has accepted Mr Pathan's explanation of the cause of his ADRV, and on that basis has agreed that a period of ineligibility of five months should apply, together with the disqualification of certain results," the BCCI stated.

The governing body said Pathan had been provisionally suspended on October 28 last year and the Board has now decided to back-date the period of his final suspension from August 15.

"...There is discretion under BCCI ADR Article 10.10.2 to back-date the start date of the period of ineligibility still further on account of Mr Pathan's prompt admission of his ADRV upon being confronted with it by the BCCI, and under BCCI ADR Article 10.10.1 on account of the delays in the results management in this case that are not attributable to Mr Pathan.

"In all of the circumstances, the five-month period of ineligibility will be deemed to have started to run on 15 August 2017 and end at midnight on 14 January 2018," the Board stated.
The development comes amid the BCCI's stoic opposition to allowing the National Anti-Doping Agency to test cricketers. The Board has refused to sign up with NADA despite repeated requests by the agency.

BCCI confirms Yusuf Pathan unintentionally took banned substance

Indian all-rounder Yusuf Pathan was handed a five-month retrospective suspension for failing a dope test, a sanction which will end on January 14 after the BCCI accepted his plea that the violation was inadvertent. Cricketer Yusuf Pathan fails dope test, suspended for 5 months

Two-time champions Kolkata will host Kane Williamson-led Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens stadium on Friday, May 25 to book a berth in the Indian Premier League 2018 finals.

The winner of tonight's match will meet MS Dhoni-led Chennai in the IPL's finale on May 27 as team Chennai has already through to the finals after defeating Hyderabad in the Qualifier 1.

It's very ironic when the table toppers at the end of league matches, struggle&nbsp;to reach the finals, now call it carelessness or the lack of performance from their middle-order, Hyderabad have lost four straight games, something that will be a cause of concern for Williamson's side in tonight's game.

Although, Hyderabad have the best bowling unit in the presence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul, Sandeep Sharma and Rashid Khan. The bowling side will try to take benefits from the Eden Gardens track but it is not easy to face Dinesh Karthik's side&nbsp;as the batsmen coming at the 6th and 7th position have potential to score runs.

In the presence of crazy fans at the Eden Gardens, Dinesh Karthik&nbsp;side definitely has an upper hand against Hyderabad.

In the first Qualifier, when Hyderabad had their match in the pocket with Chennai struggling at 62-6 while chasing 140 runs but the bowling strategy backfired in the death overs when Carlos Brathwaite leaked too many runs.

Also, Hyderabad's problem has been their batting which is heavily reliant on skipper Kane Williamson, the current 'Orange Cap' holder with 685 runs at 57.05 average.

In order to resolve it, Shikhar Dhawan will have to rise to the occasion but it is the middle order that has created problems, Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan will have to score in order to help the bowling unit to bowl without pressure.

On the other hand, Dinesh Karthik who will look to go unchanged unless there's an injury in the lineup.&nbsp;

Their biggest strength has been the team's ability to stand up and perform in case someone fails. That we have seen in the Eliminator match when the top batting order was out bowled then middle batting order scored to reach the target.

The clash is going to be very interesting as the result will give another finalist of the tournament.

Apart from Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina and Shardul Thakur none of the batsmen score more than 10 runs.

Cricketer Yusuf Pathan might soon be completing BCCI&#39;s retroactive five-month ban imposed on him for a first-time dope offense but as per the protocol of World Anti Doping Agency (WADA), the case is an active one.

Indian all-rounder Pathan was handed a <a href="http://www.wionews.com/sports/yusuf-pathan-dope-case-bcci-satisfied-with-his-explanation-29004">five-month retrospective suspension</a> on Tuesday for failing a dope test, a sanction which will end on January 14 after the BCCI accepted his plea that the violation was inadvertent.

&quot; As this is a pending case, we are not in a position to comment,&quot; informed Maggie Durand, WADA&#39;s Manager, Media Relations and Communications in response to an email query by PTI whether the period of the ban imposed on him was WADA compliant.

As per WADA Doping Code of 2015, a first-time offense automatically invokes a four-year suspension.

The BCCI had said in a statement, &quot;Mr Yusuf Pathan has been suspended for a doping violation. Mr. Pathan had inadvertently ingested a prohibited substance, which can be commonly found in cough syrups.&quot;

The 35-year-old Pathan, a member of the victorious Indian 2011 World Cup squad, had provided a urine sample as part of the BCCI&#39;s anti-doping testing program during a domestic T20 competition on March 16 last year.

&quot; His sample was subsequently tested and found to contain Terbutaline. Terbutaline, a specified substance, is prohibited both In and Out of Competition in the WADA Prohibited List of Substances,&quot; the BCCI stated.

The all-rounder, who has played 57 ODIs and 22 T20 Internationals for India, was charged with the &quot;commission of an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) under the BCCI Anti- Doping Rules (ADR) Article 2.1 and provisionally suspended pending determination of the charge&quot;.

&quot;Mr Pathan responded to the charge by admitting the ADRV and asserting that it was caused by his ingestion of a medication containing Terbutaline that had been mistakenly given to him instead of the medication prescribed for him, which did not contain any prohibited substance,&quot; the BCCI explained.

The BCCI said it is &quot;satisfied&quot; with Pathan&#39;s explanation that he was using the medication to &quot;treat an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI) and not as a performance- enhancing drug&quot;.

&quot;Having considered all of the evidence and taken expert external advice, the BCCI has accepted Mr Pathan&#39;s explanation of the cause of his ADRV, and on that basis has agreed that a period of ineligibility of five months should apply, together with the disqualification of certain results,&quot; the BCCI stated.

The BCCI said Pathan had been provisionally suspended on October 28 last year and the Board has now decided to back- date the period of his final suspension from August 15.

&quot;...There is discretion under BCCI ADR Article 10.10.2 to back-date the start date of the period of ineligibility still further on account of Mr Pathan&#39;s prompt admission of his ADRV upon being confronted with it by the BCCI, and under BCCI ADR Article 10.10.1 on account of the delays in the results management in this case that are not attributable to Mr Pathan.

&quot; In all of the circumstances, the five-month period of ineligibility will be deemed to have started to run on 15 August 2017 and end at midnight on 14 January 2018,&quot; the Board stated.

The development comes amid the BCCI&#39;s stoic opposition to allow the National Anti-Doping Agency to test cricketers. The Board has refused to sign up with NADA despite repeated requests by the agency.

Significantly, the IPL players&#39; auction is scheduled this month-end at Bengaluru and Pathan, a regular in the Kolkata Knight Riders team, will become eligible to be included in the list of players after serving out his ban this Sunday.
