It will be produced by Yoodlee Films, the film production arm of Indian music giant Saregama. They have acquired the rights to the story from Rajan Pillai’s wife Nina.&nbsp;

Rajan Pillai, for the unversed, was born in Kerala in 1947 and had shifted to Singapore in the mid-1970s from where he managed important positions in biscuit companies like Nabisco, Huntley &amp; Palmer, Britannia among a few others. By 1993 however, Pillai was the subject of an investigation by Singapore’s Commercial Affairs Department. He returned to India in 1995, where he was jailed and died awaiting medical treatment.

Indian production house Yoodlee Films has a lot to cheer about now that their most recent feature titled ‘Axone’ has gotten selected for MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. This is the third film from the production house to get selected for screening at the festival after ‘Ajji’ in 2017 and ‘Hamid’ in 2018.&nbsp;

‘Axone’ is written and directed by Nicholas Kharkongor and deals with the topic of racism in a cheeky and humorous manner. The film is set in Delhi and tells the story of happenings over the course of a day in the life of&nbsp;two girls from the North East who set out to cook a pungent dish called Axone to celebrate the wedding of another friend. It all starts with the dish that perturbs their neighbours as they hate its smell that then translates&nbsp;in outright racism. &nbsp;

The film features Vinay Pathak, Dolly Ahluwalia, Sayani Gupta, Lin Laishram and Tenzin Dalha.

Kunal Kapoor plays the role of a drama teacher in the school who guides Shay.&nbsp;

On his role in the film, Kunal said, “Bullying and the subsequent mental, physical and emotional scars it leaves - is a theme that our movies haven't really explored. In our movies, schools and colleges are usually perfect. But life isn't. It's the imperfect world that is real. This is about that imperfect world, and the challenges that kids face every day in school, that can either make them stronger or destroy them. It's also an insider view of bullying, and the monsters it creates.”&nbsp;

Web series gives us the opportunity to tell an interesting narrative which is not bound by the required length of a feature film. It gives writers the agency to create characters that have an unhurried character arc over episodes, thereby making them real and believable.”

He added, “We want to tell stories that display a sense of quirk, subjects that are off the beaten track and give you various perspectives on our ever-evolving society. And the freedom that the format of web-series allows on the OTT streaming services is enticing enough for our writers to venture into this.”

Yoodlee made some films last year that became a hit with the audience. Films like ‘Music Teacher’, ‘Brij Mohan Amar Rahe’ received rave reviews after they made it to streaming platforms. Hamid is above all a film about peace, love and most importantly about healing each other. We hope that Hamid helps in spreading this very important message of love and redemption in these conflicted times.”

According to the makers, ‘Hamid’ explores the unlikely bond between an eight-year-old boy, named Hamid and a CRPF Jawan – who find each other in the most trying of circumstances. They form a relationship that helps them find redemption and closure through dialogue and conversation.

The film has been shot entirely in Kashmir and the eight-year-old protagonist cast is a local Kashmiri boy.

Helmed by Devashish Makhija, child rape drama film Ajji won actress Sushma Deshpande a special jury mention for her performance at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA). She also won The Flame Award at the UK Asian Film Festival along with the Fresh Blood competition at the Beaune International Thriller Film Festival 2018. Produced by Yoodlee Films, Ajji tells the story of a 65-year-old arthritic grandmother who decides to take revenge from the society when it fails to provide justice for the rape of her nine-year-old granddaughter.
