As many as 872 employees of the Central Railway and Western Railway, their family members and retired personnel have so far tested positive for coronavirus and 86 of them have died, officials said.

All of them were admitted to the Western Railways Jagjivan Ram Hospital here which was in April declared as a facility to treat COVID-19 patients, they said.

Of the total cases, 559 were reported from the Central Railway and 313 from the Western Railway, officials said.

Out of the 86 patients who died of COVID-19, 22 were existing railway employees (14 of the Central Railway and eight of the Western Railway) and the others included their family members and retired personnel.

As of now, 132 railway employees, besides their family members and retired personnel, are undergoing treatment at the hospital, officials said.

Currently, some special trains, goods trains and 700 local train services with limited number of passengers are being operated here by both the Central Railway and Western Railway.

Some railway unions claimed that since the resumption of local train services from June 15, there has been a rise in COVID-19 cases among railway employees.

"The state government allowed only 15 to 30 per cent attendance in offices, but in the railways nearly 100 per cent field staff personnel are working since the resumption of suburban train services, National RailwayMazdoor Union president Venu Nair said.

The zonal railways, however, said there is no connection between the rise in COVID-19 cases and resumption of services.

Central Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer Shivaji Sutar said they are taking utmost care to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among railway personnel and passengers.

"We are taking every possible step for the safety of railway employees and passengers and ensuring social distancing. We are providing masks, sanitisers and all other safety equipment to our employees," he said.

After the outbreak of COVID-19, the Central Railway launched a 'Rail Parivar Dekhrekh' drive to ensure the safety of the railway employees, he added.

The Western Railway's Mumbai division DRM did not respond to queries on this.

One of Xu's friend on Monday said that the police had called Xu's wife to inform that the professor was arrested for allegedly soliciting prostitution in the southwestern city of Chengdu.

Xu did visit Chengdu previous winter along with several Chinese scholars but it is unclear if the trip is related to the arrest. But according to his friend these allegations were &nbsp;"ridiculous and shameless".

Xu was placed under home arrest last week, the friend said.

An online petition was signed in 2019 by hundreds of alumni and academics from around the world after he was reportedly barred Xu from teaching and conducting. &nbsp;

Kequin's&nbsp;resemblance to Jinping is considered "sensitive" by Chinese authorities.&nbsp;

His photographs and instructional videos, in which he is merely sitting at home in a sweatshirt and offering energetic tutorials on singing, have been censored because of the same reason.&nbsp;

When 63-year-old Kequin, tried to make another account on the same application, it was censored yet again because his images looked like the official portraits of the Chinese leader.&nbsp;

However, he is not the only doppelganger of Jingping. An unnamed food vendor who became an internet sensation in December last year also resembles the Chinese leader a lot.

The Obama administration had blacklisted ZTE, trump had slapped ZTE with a 1.3 billion fine.

“We welcome India’s ban on certain mobile apps” from China, Pompeo told reporters, saying the move would “boost India’s integrity and national security.”

Canberra is increasing its defence spending to counter the rise of China. Canberra has committed to 270 billion dollars in defence spending over the next 10 years. The plan is to build a larger military.

One that is focused on its immediate backyard. Over the next four years, Australia will add at least 800 more people to its defence force.650 of them will join the navy, 100 people will be added to the air force and the army will get 50 new men.

So, Australia is preparing to take on China on the high seas if provoked and Scott Morrison is not being shy about it.

As mentioned we are expanding our plans to acquire long-range, maritime and land strike capabilities and to invest in more highly integrated sensors and weapons.”

The president of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Tijjani Muhammad-Bande -- in an apparent message to China -- changed the phrase&nbsp;of the resolution to be adopted by UN on the 75th anniversary of its existence. The resolution that will be adopted in September will have a new sentence and not the one that has been a key part of Chinese foreign policy and backed by the Chinese Communist Party.

This happened after six countries -- India, US, UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand objected to the use of phrase -- "to build a community with a shared future for mankind", which has been discussed by China President Xi Jinping many times as his vision for the world.

Xi has raised the concept and the phrase on many occasions including his UNGA speech at the 70th session of the body, and his famous speech at World Economic Forum at Davos in January 2017.

Several European countries were not very happy with the use of the phase. UN member state sources told WION, "It's a much broader concern shared by many."

Another UN source explained, "UNGA President proposing an alternate sentence vindicates our stance"

What is interesting is China had put the phase under "silence" procedure and not at the negotiation stage which many UN members believe is not by chance. Under the silence procedure, the proposal is deemed to be passed, if no one "breaks the silence" by raising a concern. China had not taken kindly to the "silence" being broken and backed by Pakistan, Syria and Russia had shot up a letter to UN.&nbsp;

The proposed wording by UNGA President "for the common future of present and coming generations" was given approval for the resolution via silence procedure with China not objecting to it. Any objection by China could have led to a deadlock, and perhaps a controversy even as UN marks 75th year of existence, something that could have gone against Bejing. The development last week since by June end, the resolution was to be agreed upon for resolution to be adopted later this year. &nbsp;

While China has been trying to put the same language in the UN documents, it has been put to vote and there might be stray instances it might have been able to do so.&nbsp;

The resolution which has been put on UN Website calls for reforms and lists out 12 commitments with COVID pandemic reminding "us in the most powerful way that we are only as strong as our weakest link".

On COVID, the resolution says, "It is even more important as we build back better from the COVID-19 pandemic. We need a strong UN development system" and "the COVID-19 pandemic continues to reverberate around our world. In a matter of weeks, the pandemic manifested itself as the largest global challenge in the history of the UN."

Declaration has strong references to terrorism, peacekeeping operations of UN which are of direct interest to India and key priorities for New Delhi.

On UNSC reforms which India has been talking for a long time, the resolution says, "we commit to instil new life in the discussions on the reform of the security council," highlighting how the world of today is very different from what it was when the UN was created 75 years ago.

On terror, the resolution says, "Terrorism and violent extremism conducive to terrorism are serious threats to international peace and security."

It pays tributes to UN peacekeepers saying, "Over the years, more than one million women and men have served under the UN flag in more than 70 peacekeeping operations".&nbsp;

India is the fourth highest troop-contributing countries with more than 6700 troops from India being deployed on UN peacekeeping missions.

Reinvigorated multilateralism is also a word that appears -- also a matter which Indian PM Modi himself has articulated as reformed multilateralism.

All of the above which the resolution talks about also forms key focus areas for India as it sits at the United Nations Security Council from January 1, 2021 for a period of 2 years. It was elected earlier this month and got 184 votes and was the sole candidate for the Asia Pacific seat.&nbsp;

India's priority areas as UNSC elected member are -- new opportunities for progress, effective response to international terrorism, reforming the multilateral system, comprehensive approach to international peace and security and promoting technology with a human touch as a driver of solutions.

A political activist from Gilgit Baltistan has condemned Chinese aggression in Ladakh saying Beijing is feeling threatened by India's infrastructure projects in the Union Territory.

Senge H Sering, the director of Institute of Gilgit Baltistan Studies told ANI, "India is improving its infrastructure and making its access to Karakoram Pass much easier. That means India will be able to access G219 (China National Highway 219) from Galwan Valley, because it is very close to the watershed of the Galwan River. Then you will be able to cut Tibet from Xinjiang, in case India tries to move forward towards East and North. And you will also be able to cut the Eastern route, the second route of CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor)."

Senge was reacting to a violent face-off between Indian and Chinese troops near the Galwan Valley area in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed on June 15. "The G219 also feeds into the feeder roads and makes China's control over Shaksgam, Agel, Raskam and Shimshal much stronger and superior. So, India makes China's presence in Xinjiang and Tibet very weak by extending its own infrastructure to Karakoram Pass," he added.

"China doesn't want it to happen. So, China is trying to intimidate India and asking to not to move forward and construct infrastructure in Eastern part of Ladakh," said Senge, who is well aware about the geography and strategic importance of the region.

China's economy has been in shambles ever since COVID-19 broke out in its Wuhan city late last year. Experts believe that President Xi Jinping's handling of the pandemic has exposed serious structural cracks in the facade of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

"So, China is attacking India and Taiwan or enabling Nepal to claim India's land as a distracting tactic and allowing people to galvanise to be more nationalistic and this way they want to prolong their own control over their country but, the fact remains that Tibetans and Uyghurs, they don't want China to control their land any more", said Senge H Sering.

The COVID-19 pandemic originated from China before it swept across the world, affecting millions and stalling economies the world over. There is a growing chorus against China for its poor handling of the crisis and hiding facts about the highly cntagious disease and thus misleading the world.

"China is feeling threatened, it's vulnerable in a way that its economy is not improving the way it used to be a few years back. COVID-19 has restricted the country in a very bad way and at the same time the dissent in the western autonomous region is threatening China's control," Senge said.

Senge said, "On top of that when India improves its infrastructure it becomes even more threatening for China. So, if you have all aspects together, you will realise that China will try to do its utmost. It will use all options there to not enable India to build infrastructure but the fact remains that China is an occupier in Aksai Chin, in Gilgit Baltistan and now it's trying to intrude into Ladakh."

He laid stress on the fact that by abiding all international rules and regulations China must withdraw from Aksai Chin and other occupied areas.

"These are Indian territories. The people in Xinjiang, especially the Uyghur, recognize that these are India's lands and people in Tibet - the Tibetan government-in-exile, recognize that these are India's lands. There is no dispute with the people of Xinjiang and people of Tibet as far as Aksai Chin, Shaksgam and other parts of Ladakh are concerned. So, the International community should stand with India and make China withdraw from these places", said Senge by adding that India must immediately build a protective wall in front of DS-DBO (Darbuk-Shyok-DBO) Road since China is trying to damage it by flooding the Galwan River.

The lawyers' wife said that she received a call from the prosecutor’s office in Xuzhou city in the eastern province of Jiangsu, informing her that the sentencing was announced behind closed doors early on Wednesday, reported The Guardian.&nbsp;

During his detention of more than two years, the activist was not allowed to meet his lawyer or family and there were major concerns of torture during custody.&nbsp;

The UN working group also demanded in April last year that he should be released.
