Former NFL wide receiver Josh Gordon, in a game-winning play, scored a 65-yard touchdown in the final minutes of the game as the Seattle Sea Dragons beat the Vegas Vipers 30-26 in a XFL 2023 Week 3 game.

The Vipers were leading 26-24 with 1:11 left in the fourth quarter. The ball, however, was in Dragons' posssession and they were&nbsp;4th and 2 at Seattle 35. Dragons QB Ben DiNucci, who had an incomplete pass on 3rd and 2, made the most of the second chance.

The QB, after getting the ball from the centre, went back a few yards and heaved one in the air in Gordon's direction. The former NFL WR was ready for the catch. He seemed to have run into some traffic but managed to score the touchdown. Have a look at the video:

The play by Gordon clearly showed by he was one of the premier WRs in the NFL. After being picked by the Cleveland Browns in 2012, Gordon spent 11 seasons in the league, playing for five franchises namely New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs and the Tennessee Titans. The journey includes two-year suspension period for 2015 and 2016 seasons as well.

Gordon's best days, however, came with the Cleveland Browns with whom he spent time from 2012 to 2018, including the suspension period. In 2013, his second in the league, Gordon managed 1646 receiving yards for&nbsp;87 catches in the 14 games he played.

With everything looking set for him to become one of the impact players, he was suspended for two seasons for breaching the leagues drug abuse policy and just couldn't return to his former self after being reinstated in late 2017.&nbsp;

The Battlehawks scored their second consecutive victory after edging out Seattle Sea Dragons 20-18 in a thriller of a game. The Battlehawks were down four points by the halftime but managed to pull back things in the second half and went on to win the game.

DC Defenders

The Defenders are second of the three undefeated teams in XFL 2023. DC, as per their name, held the Vegas Vipers at bay and won the game 18-6. The Defenders, after conceding a six-point deficit in the first quarter, didn't let the Vipers score in rest of the three quarters.

San Antonio Brahmas

The Brahmas got their first win of the season as they beat Orlando Guardians 30-12. The game stood at 6-6 at the end of the first quarter but the Brahmas then took over and routed the Guardians.

Houston Roughnecks

The Roughnecks are the third undefeated team so far as they hand out a 23-14 defeat to Arlington Renegades. In the see-saw of a game, The Roughnecks secured the lead in the third quarter and held on to it for the rest of the game to a win.

The Sea Dragons drowned at their home ground despite being in the lead for three quarters of the game against the eventual winners St. Louis Battlehawks. Seattle were ahead 12-11 at the start of fourth quarter but could only score six against St. Louis' nine in the final one and lost their second consecutive game.

Vegas Vipers

It was another loss for the Vipers and they are finding hard to get the season going. After a fighting loss in Week 1, the Vipers just looked out of sorts in Week 2 as they couldn't score a single point second quarter onwards in their 6-18 loss to the Defenders.

Orlando Guardians

The Guardians met the same fate as the Vipers in Week 2. The Guardians also could manage twelve points, six each in first and the last quarter, in their meek 12-30 loss to the San Antonio Brahmas.

Arlington Renegades

The Renegades, after winning their Week 1 game, suffered a 14-13 loss against the Houston Roughnecks. The Renegades looked to give a fight after erupting for 14 points in the second quarter but couldn't score before or after that.

The XFL made a comeback on Saturday once again with a hope to make the league work this time and its commissioner, mighty Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, made a speech at the start which could easily have been part of a Hollywood movie. The speech was given right before the kick off between the Vegas Vipers and Arlington Renegades as the former WWE star and now a movie star, tried to instill inspiration in fans and the players. “When they told you that the dream was over, but here’s the truth your dream is just beginning,” The Rock said, addressing the players.

A group of investors, along with Johnson had bought the league for $15 million in August 2020 after the XFL went bankrupt during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the third time XLF is being revived after being failed the first two times, once in 1999 and the other time in 2020.&nbsp;

Unfazed by the failures, however, Johnson went on with the passionate speech directed&nbsp;at the players and the fans. “Because what you’re going to do, you’re going to come out on this field and you’re going to line up and you’re going to show the world what it’s like to be truly hungry with that chip on your shoulder. I know because I’ve got that same chip and we’re here because the X of the XFL represents the intersection of dreams and opportunities. You bring the dreams, we brought the opportunity. Now let’s get to the game that we all love and why we’re here today,” the movie star said.

The NFL season is over and the Kansas City Chiefs are the champions, winning their second Super Bowl in four years after beating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in a hard-fought game in Arizona last week. But for footballs fans, the season isn't over as the XFL is back with another season to make a viable and profitable football league. The league has been revamped completely with teams, rules, players, coaches and ownership after going bankrupt in 2020. Former WWE superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson serves as the league commissioner now and has said that he'll be attending all the games of XFL's opening weekend.

<h2>What is XFL?</h2>

The XFL was founded in 2018 by Vince McMahon in a reboot of the league founded by McMahon for the first time in 1999 with the same name which ceased operations in 2001 after being active for just one year.

For the 2018 version, McMahon changed some rules as he tried to revitalized the league with the inaugural season kicking off in 2020. The show, however, cold go on for just about five weeks as the league lost the money, largely due to the catastrophic impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

In August 2020 though, The Rock, Dany Garcia and Gerry Cardinale's RedBird Capital decided to purchase the XFL for $15 million in a fortune turn of event for the league which had declared bankruptcy in April 2020.

<h2>How is XFL different from the NFL?</h2>

While the XFL invariable a football league, it has tweaked a few rules in comparison with the NFL to give it a different flavour. Here are the XFL rules which are different from the NFL:

Extra-point attempts

The XFL has no kicking rules after a touchdown but instead three options for point conversion unlike NFL which has only two options of kick and two-point conversion. In XFL, the teams will have options to choose from one, two or three points conversion attempts from the opponent's 2-, 5- and 10-yard line, respectively.

Game clock

XFL has the play clock of 35 seconds instead 40 seconds like in NFL. The clock will also be running on incomplete passes and out-of-bounds plays till the two-minute warning. The clock will also stop on all first downs after the two-minute warning.

Onside kick

While the teams can still go for regular onside kicks, they will have an option to attempt a fourth-and-15 conversion, although the option is available only in the fourth quarter. The onside kicks, however, can be taken anytime.&nbsp;

Double forward pass

The XFL allows the players to throw two forward passes on each play, given that the first pass is completed behind the line of scrimmage.

Overtime shootout

If a game goes in the OT, each team will get three attempts for a two-point conversion from the opponent's 5-yeard line in alternate manner. The winner will be decided on the basis of points after all three attempts of each side. If the game, however, still remains tied, then it will move to sudden death.

Kickoff

The teams in XFL will have to stand five yards apart during the kickoff with the kicking team at the opponent's 35-yard line and returning team at their own 30-yard line. No other player is allowed to move apart from the kicker and the returner till the time the ball is caught or is on the ground for a minimum of three seconds

Replay review

The coaches are allowed to challenge the calls 'involving a foul or potential foul,' but they get only one such attempt during the game.

<h3>XFL start date and total number of games</h3>

The league will go on for a total of 10 weeks from February 18 to April 22. The season will have 40 games in the regular season with three additional games in the playoff. The two playoffs or semifinals will be played on April 29 and 30 with the championship game scheduled for May 13.

The league has been revamped completely with teams, rules, players, coaches and ownership after going bankrupt in 2020. Former WWE superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson serves as the league commissioner now and has said that he'll be attending all the games of XFL's opening weekend. What is XFL? The XFL was founded in 2018 by Vince McMahon in a reboot of the league founded by McMahon for the first time in 1999 with the same name which ceased operations in 2001 after being active for just one year. For the 2018 version, McMahon changed some rules as he tried to revitalized the league with the inaugural season kicking off in 2020. The show, however, cold go on for just about five weeks as the league lost the money, largely due to the catastrophic impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic. In August 2020 though, The Rock, Dany Garcia and Gerry Cardinale's RedBird Capital decided to purchase the XFL for $15 million in a fortune turn of event for the league which had declared bankruptcy in April 2020. While the XFL invariable a football league, it has tweaked a few rules in comparison with the NFL to give it a different flavour. Here are the XFL rules which are different from the NFL: Extra-point attempts The XFL has no kicking rules after a touchdown but instead three options for point conversion unlike NFL which has only two options of kick and two-point conversion. In XFL, the teams will have options to choose from one, two or three points conversion attempts from the opponent's 2-, 5- and 10-yard line, respectively. Game clock XFL has the play clock of 35 seconds instead 40 seconds like in NFL. The clock will also be running on incomplete passes and out-of-bounds plays till the two-minute warning. The clock will also stop on all first downs after the two-minute warning. Onside kick While the teams can still go for regular onside kicks, they will have an option to attempt a fourth-and-15 conversion, although the option is available only in the fourth quarter. The onside kicks, however, can be taken anytime. Double forward pass The XFL allows the players to throw two forward passes on each play, given that the first pass is completed behind the line of scrimmage. Overtime shootout If a game goes in the OT, each team will get three attempts for a two-point conversion from the opponent's 5-yeard line in alternate manner. The winner will be decided on the basis of points after all three attempts of each side. If the game, however, still remains tied, then it will move to sudden death. Kickoff The teams in XFL will have to stand five yards apart during the kickoff with the kicking team at the opponent's 35-yard line and returning team at their own 30-yard line. No other player is allowed to move apart from the kicker and the returner till the time the ball is caught or is on the ground for a minimum of three seconds Replay review The coaches are allowed to challenge the calls 'involving a foul or potential foul,' but they get only one such attempt during the game. XFL start date and total number of games The league will go on for a total of 10 weeks from February 18 to April 22. The season will have 40 games in the regular season with three additional games in the playoff. The two playoffs or semifinals will be played on April 29 and 30 with the championship game scheduled for May 13. Former WWE Superstar turned Hollywood actor Dwayne Johnson has teamed up with his ex-wife Dany Garcia and investment company RedBird Capital Partners to buy the XFL for $15 million, hours before the bankrupt American football league was set to be auctioned off.

Johsnon, Garcia and RedBird Capitals Partners were selected as the winning bidder for “substantially all of the assets of Alpha Entertainment LLC” - parent company of the XFL.

The XFL, a reboot of the 2001 league, had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in April, one month after it had to call off the remainder of the season due to COVID-19 pandemic.&nbsp;

“We are grateful for today’s outcome. This is a Hollywood ending to our sale process and it is an exciting new chapter for the league,” XFL president and COO Jeffrey Pollack said in a statement on Monday.

“(They) are a dream team ownership group and the XFL is in the best possible hands going forward.”

However, the transcation to buy the XFL is subject to bankruptcy court approval at a hearing on Friday. XFL 2.0 is the brainchild of Vince McMahon and was the second attempt by the WWE CEO to provide an NFL alternative to American football lovers.&nbsp;

Popularly known as ‘The Rock’, Johnson is famous for his roles in popular movie franchises such as the ‘Fast &amp; Furious’ and ‘Jumanji’.

“With gratitude and passion I’ve built a career with my own two hands and will apply these callouses to our @xfl2020 brand,” Johnson wrote on Twitter. “Excited to create something special for the fans!”

The 48-year-old was a college football player at the University of Miami who went undrafted in the 1995 NFL Draft before he eventually switched to wrestling.
