A gunman killed two police officers and a passer-by on Tuesday before being shot dead in the centre of the Belgian city of Liege, public broadcaster RTBF said on its website and authorities said terrorism could not be ruled out as a motive.

La Libre Belgique newspaper quoted a police source as saying the gunman shouted Allahu Akbar — God is greatest in Arabic -- and RTBF said investigators believed the attacker may well have had a terrorist motive. 
The man had taken a woman hostage at some point in the attack, the newspaper said.

The national anti-terrorist crisis centre, which Interior Minister Jan Jambon said on Twitter was monitoring the situation, said terrorism could not be excluded as a motive though it was also looking into other possible reasons.

"It (terrorism) is one of the questions on the table, but for the moment all scenarios are open," a spokesman for the crisis centre said.

Two other police officers had been injured, Belga news agency said. A spokeswoman for the Liege public prosecutors office confirmed that two police officers had been shot dead and the gunman "neutralised" but could not confirm other details.

A 58-year-old NRI man, holding a Russian passport, was arrested at the Delhi airport today after an Indian woman alleged that he had masturbated sitting beside her on board a flight from Istanbul, officials said.

A man knocked the doors of the Delhi High Court in search of a woman whom he claimed to be his wife but she refused to go with him telling the court that she never married him.

The woman also denied the man’s claim that she was detained illegally by her brother and maintained that she was living with him willingly. She told the court that the ‘nikahnama’ (marriage certificate) claimed by the man was not genuine as she was forced to sign blank papers after being taken forcibly in a car.

The court disposed of a habeas corpus petition filed by the man seeking direction to the woman’s brother to produce the woman, whom he claimed to have married on July 26, 2017, and said it was “not inclined to issue any directions in this petition”.

“This court would not like to enter into this controversy at this stage because as far as the habeas corpus petition is concerned, the court has to satisfy itself that the person whose production is sought by the petitioner is not under any restraint and is not being detained by anyone against that person’s wishes. “In this case, the court is satisfied that as of date, the woman is living of her own free will with her brother and is under no restraint or illegal detention. The court, accordingly, is not inclined to issue any directions in this petition,” the bench said.

The judges spoke to the woman and her brother in their chamber where she said that “no valid” marriage was performed between her and the man and she does not wish to go with him. The woman also maintained that she was staying with her brother and his family willingly and her date of birth in her Aadhaar card, produced by the man, was erroneous. The judges, thereafter, called the man and his counsel in their chamber and conveyed to them the stand of the woman. The man also denied that he had taken away the woman forcibly and made her sign papers for the purpose of marriage.

When the man’s counsel expressed apprehension over his safety, the judges said it will be for the SHO of Malviya Nagar police station to make an assessment for his protection and issue directions. The man claimed before the court that he married the woman and they both decided not to disclose this to their families. He said that in April when the woman disclosed about her marriage to her brother, he objected to it and threatened the man with dire consequences. On April 22, the man also told his parents about his marriage and they agreed to it.

While the man claimed that according to the Aadhaar card submitted at the time of marriage, the woman was born on January 1, 1998, she said she turned 18 on March 24 this year as she was born in 2000. After an investigation, the police found out that Saraswathi with her lover, an unemployed B Tech graduate, had planned the whole scene to kill her husband. Reports said that the lover had hired a local thug who was also a B Tech graduate for executing the killing.&nbsp;

The police said that Saraswati paid an advance of Rs 8,000 using an online money transfer mobile application, while the lover paid Rs 10,000 in cash to the contract killers.

Saraswati and her husband, on Monday, were returning from a motorcycle service station when the killers started following them, as planned, and attacked the husband. Saraswati tried to initially stop them, as an act, before they hit him with an iron rod which killed him on the spot.&nbsp;

A 20-year old woman today allegedly committed suicide in Rajamahendravaram, Andhra Pradesh, by jumping into a nearby river along with her two minor children, police said.

The woman took the extreme step due to a family dispute, they added.

Shaila Patil, the mother of the child, alleged buyer Amar Morje (32) and Patil's friends Yogesh Gosawi (42) and Anant Damaji (34) who helped her strike the deal were arrested yesterday after her husband lodged a complaint.

Inspector Harish Madkaikar of Ponda police station, who is investigating the case, said Patil allegedly sold the child keeping her husband in the dark as she needed money.

All the accused live in Pernem tehsil. Shaila Patil is originally from Pune.

She asked her friends Gosawi and Damaji to help her sell her baby son, saying she badly needed Rs two lakh.

Gosawi and Damaji contacted Morje, who is married but childless and was allegedly willing to buy a baby.

The child was handed over to Morje on March 23, the police officer said.

Patil's husband was away at the time. He found out what had happened on his return, and approached police, inspector Madkaikar said.

Police have registered a case under anti-trafficking provisions of the Indian Penal Code, he said.

Also, on Friday the Wadala TT police probing a baby-selling racket on Thursday received the DNA paternity test report of biological fathers of two babies sold by the parents.&nbsp;

She participated in case-studies, focusing on women in bondage, organised seminars on bonded labour, sexual harassment and other human rights issues. In her community, she also met and convinced many parents to send their girl child to school.

No case has been registered yet but Bareilly district magistrate Raghvendra Vikram Singh informed that he has asked a sub-divisional magistrate and officer to probe the sale. Yesterday, the woman&#39;s paramour came to meet her when the girl&#39;s father was away.&nbsp;Before he came, the woman had already sent her daughter downstairs. The girl returned after sometime only to find the couple in a &quot;compromising position&quot;, they said.

She threatened to call her father and inform him.

Enraged, her mother and her paramour, in his 20s, first allegedly rendered her unconscious, the police said.

The autopsy report will clear whether they held her by the neck or gave her some sedative, they added.

They took her to a terrace where they allegedly slit her throat. After they returned, the woman went downstairs and pretended to look for her daughter. She took her younger son to a nearby temple and adjacent lanes to search for the girl, the police said.

Meanwhile, her partner disposed of the blood-stained clothes and hid the knife in the woman&#39;s house, they said.

The girl&#39;s father informed the police. Later, some residents of the building saw the girl&#39;s body on the terrace and alerted the police, they said.

The police questioned the residents of the building and also scanned the call details of the victim&#39;s family, the police said.

They developed a suspicion about the girl&#39;s mother after they found that she used to speak to a man at odd hours, they said.

The accused, a labourer, was called for questioning and subsequently revealed about his involvement, the police said, adding that the duo has been arrested.

A hijab-clad woman was allegedly accosted at a US store by another customer who called her a &quot;terrorist&quot; and told her to &quot;get out&quot; of the country, the latest in a series of hate incidents in which headscarf- wearing women have been targeted following Donald Trump&#39;s win.

The incident happened at Smith&#39;s store in Albuquerque, New Mexico, CBS-affiliate KRQE television reported.

&quot;I went down the aisle to go get sodas and then all of a sudden I hear somebody starting to yell at her (the hijab-clad woman),&quot; Barney Lopez, an eyewitness, was quoted as saying.

&quot;And...Saying things like &#39;Get out of our country, you don&#39;t belong here, you&#39;re a terrorist!&#39;&quot; he said.

At that point, Lopez said, practically everyone in the store stopped what they were doing and ran to the defence of the woman in hijab.

Lopez snapped a picture, albeit a bit shaky, of the person screaming at the woman in the hijab. The lady was wearing a hat and sunglasses. A Smith&#39;s employee appeared to stand in the way to keep her back.

&quot;There was even another woman that like went over to the woman in the hijab and put her arm around her and gave her hug and held her while the Smith&#39;s employees came,&quot; Barney said.

Employees shuffled the shouting lady out of the store, but Lopez said the screaming woman waited in the parking lot for the woman in the hijab to come out.

&quot;So all the Smith&#39;s employees gathered around this woman and escorted her to her car and helped her load her groceries,&quot; he recalled.

Lopez said while the incident was initially shocking and upsetting, he ultimately left the store feeling uplifted.

The US TV station called Smith&#39;s to enquire about Wednesday&#39;s incident and a manager confirmed what happened.

The manager called the woman in the hijab &quot;strong&quot; in the face of the verbal attack.

The Smith&#39;s manager also said the woman in the hijab came back to the store later in the day to thank the employees.

Police were called and reportedly got to the store after the yelling woman had left.

The incident comes amid a slew of intimidation and assault cases that have been reported across the country against hijab-clad women post-election.

Earlier this month, a Muslim student&#39;s hijab was allegedly ripped off and her hair pulled down by a classmate at a school in Minnesota.

Also, a Muslim student of Michigan University was approached by an unidentified man who yelled at her and threatened to set her on fire if she did not remove her hijab, prompting police to probe the hate crime incident.

A Muslim high-school teacher in Georgia was also told to hang herself with her headscarf in a handwritten anonymous note she received in her classroom.
