<p>"To further facilitate cross-border travel and China’s high-quality development and high-standard opening up, China has decided to apply unilateral visa-free policy to more countries on a trial basis, which involves extending visa-free treatment to travelers holding ordinary passports from six countries, namely France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia," the Chinese spokesperson said.&nbsp;</p>

The country's highhandedness in dealing with the pandemic included isolating the country by shutting down its borders, and a social media crackdown on those who spoke against these policies.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Later, the country lifted many restrictions on international travel, and now with visa-free services, it is further easing up on the travel norms, creating a conducive environment for travelers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This view is of half of the respondents.&nbsp;Reacting to China's offering of visa-free services,&nbsp;Germany's ambassador to China Patricia Flor welcomed the decision and reportedly said, "This decision will facilitate travel to China for many German citizens to an unprecedented extent."</p>

<p>According to sources familiar with the situation and documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, the fee rise will begin in October and April. Online purchases will mostly have these increased fees.</p>

<p>According to CMSPI, a consulting firm that works with merchants, the modifications may result in businesses paying an extra $502 million in fees every year.</p>

<p>More than half of those funds will come from network charge increases, according to CMSPI. Increases in interchange fees, often known as swipe fees, will provide the remaining funds. These charges are borne by retailers whenever customers use credit cards.</p>

Visa, Mastercard gear up to increase credit-card fees: Report 

<p>The United States has announced it will impose visa sanctions on Chinese officials that are pursuing "forced assimilation" of children in Tibet. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday (August 23) said Washington would go after Chinese officials who are behind the policy of state boarding schools forcefully assimilating over one million Tibetan children in government-run boarding schools.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"@StateDept is taking steps to impose visa restrictions on PRC officials for the forcible assimilation of Tibetan children in government-run boarding schools. We call on the PRC to cease these actions that undermine human rights," posted&nbsp;Blinken,&nbsp;referring to the People’s Republic of China.</p>

<p>The study reached its conclusion by analysing 100 publically available sources. Experts said China's aim is to create a gene pool to police ordinary Tibetans.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, Tibetans are not the only minorities that are treated horribly by the Chinese government. The Xi Jinping administration is known for operating inhumane and cruel concentration camps for Uyghur Muslims in the Xinjiang province of the country. <h2><strong>Lawsuit accusations</strong></h2>

<p>The lawsuit was officially filed in a federal district court located in the state of Washington.</p>

<p>In their complaint, the plaintiffs accused the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of denying them H-1B specialty occupation visas, even though they were lawfully employed by reputable companies.</p>

<h2><strong>Presumption of guilt&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>The plaintiffs are represented by Jonathan Wasden, an attorney from Wasden Law. “The agency assumed that anybody who had touched these companies was somehow guilty of fraudulent misrepresentations to the US government in an attempt to get a visa or immigration benefit,” said a Wasden Law attorney Jonathan Wasden, who is representing the plaintiffs.</p>

<p>The primary aim of the lawsuit is to reverse the visa application decisions made by the DHS and ensure that the plaintiffs have the opportunity to address the fraud allegations before any conclusions are drawn about their eligibility to enter the US.</p>

<h2><strong>Procedural flaws</strong></h2>

<p>The lawsuit asserted that the DHS violated the Administrative Procedure Act by exceeding its authority and categorising the plaintiffs as inadmissible without substantial evidence to support such claims.</p>

<p>Moreover, the agency's actions are deemed procedurally flawed, as it failed to inform visa applicants about the actions taken against them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The plaintiffs were reportedly employed by four IT staffing companies: Andwill Technologies, AzTech Technologies LLC, Integra Technologies LLC, and WireClass Technologies LLC. These firms were authorised to participate in the Optional Practical Training (OPT) programme and were certified through the E-Verify employment verification system.</p>

<p>The lawsuit further stressed that the DHS, instead of safeguarding the students, treated them as if they were complicit in the alleged fraudulent activities.</p>

<p>Siddhartha Kalavala Venkata, one of the individuals named in the lawsuit,&nbsp;told his ordeal after being denied entry to the US. Despite his employment at Integra through the OPT programme and his attempts to transition from an F-1 visa to an H-1B visa, he reportedly said that his H-1B application was rejected due to suspicion&nbsp;of fraud or intentional misrepresentation.</p>

<p>With effect from 30 May 2023, the United States increased some nonimmigrant visa (NIV) application processing costs, making student and tourist visas more expensive, as per US State Department.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The application fee has gone up from $160 to $185 for visitor visas for business or tourism (B1/B2s), as well as other non-petition-based NIVs including student and exchange visitor visas.</p>

<p>For several petition-based nonimmigrant worker visas, H, L, O, P, Q, and R categories, the application fee has increased from $190 to $205.</p>

<p>H, L, O, P, Q, and R visas are for temporary workers, those who wish to visit the United States for employment that will last a set amount of time. There are several categories exist within them based on the nature of employment.</p>

<p>All other consular fees remain&nbsp;unchanged. No further fees will be assessed to applicants who have previously paid a valid and non-expiring visa application fee but have not yet appeared for their visa interview or are awaiting their case processing.</p>

<p>Any fee payment&nbsp;for a visa interview made on or after 1 October 2022 is valid for 365 days from the day the fee payment invoice was issued.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The validity of fees paid by applicants prior to October 1, 2022 will last through 30 September, 2023.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per State Department, visa fees are determined based on the findings of an annual review of service costs. The majority of non-petition-based NIV costs last underwent an upgrade in 2012, while certain additional NIV fees underwent an update in 2014.</p>

<p>"Visas for work and tourism are essential to President Biden’s foreign policy, and we recognize the critical role international travel plays in the U.S. economy," the US State Department said in a statement.&nbsp;</p>

People travelling to the United States on a business or tourist visa can now apply for new jobs and even appear in interviews, a federal agency said. These visas include B-1, B-2, the agency said while asking prospective employees to ensure the applicants have changed their visa status before they begin the new role.

<p>In 2019, China welcomed 65.7 million international visitors, according to the UN World Tourism Organisation's data, before the coronavirus pandemic forced the country to seal its border from the rest of the world.</p>

<p>While many countries began welcoming international travellers and reopening their economies earlier, China started to emerge from its Covid containment policies in late 2022, after the country witnessed rare demonstrations against President Xi Jinping's signature zero-Covid strategy.</p>

<p>In December, China ended its mass testing, lifted lockdowns and stopped long quarantines, however, the sudden lift of strict Covid restrictions led to a spike in Covid cases.</p>
