Walmart Inc said on Friday it has asked employees at its stores in the United States to take down signs and playable demos of violent video games but made no changes to its policy on selling firearms.

In an internal memo, Walmart also asked its employees to turn off hunting season videos immediately.

The largest US arms retailer, which has been under pressure to change its policies on gun sales, said it took the action following the death of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/white-house-summons-tech-social-media-firms-after-shootings-241931">31 people in mass shootings in Texas and Ohio</a>, one of which took place in a Walmart store.

Meanwhile, a petition started by a junior Walmart worker in California to protest the retailer's sale of firearms has gathered more than 50,000 signatures. It will be sent to Chief Executive Officer Doug McMillon on Friday.

Thomas Marshall, an employee in San Bruno California who began the petition, told Reuters the decision to remove signage and displays of violent video games is good but not enough.

"They said they will be thoughtful and careful about their response, so we are respectful of that... But I disagree with violent video games and signage being the cause of what we are seeing in the United States," Marshall said.

"They need to take some concrete step with the weapons they sell in their stores."

Walmart's steps are not good enough for a lot of critics including Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren, who tweeted on Friday that the retailer should "do the right thing - stop selling guns."

The company told Reuters it has not changed its policies on sales of firearms and violent video games in its stores. It ended the sale of assault-rifle in 2015 and also raised the minimum age for gun purchases to 21 in 2018, bowing to years of public pressure.

The American Federation of Teachers on Friday urged Walmart to stop selling guns and not make political contributions to lawmakers who receive donations from the National Rifle Association.

"Given our nation's incredibly loose and permissive gun laws, we are asking you to do everything you can to ensure the safety of your customers, employees and the communities you serve every day," Federation president Randi Weingarten said.

Meanwhile, Walt Disney Co-owned networks ESPN and ABC have decided to delay this weekend's broadcast of an esports tournament of battle royale game 'Apex Legends' to October following the shootings, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The decision was made out of respect for the victims and all those impacted in the immediate aftermath of the shootings, the source said.

Shares of videogame makers Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive Software and Activision Blizzard fell between 1.5% and 3.5% amid a broader selloff on Wall Street on Friday.

The stocks had tumbled on Monday after President Donald Trump, in response to the mass shootings, called for an end to the glorification of violence and blamed "gruesome and grisly video games" for that.

"In less than one minute, Dayton first responders neutralized the shooter," Mayor Nan Whaley said at a news conference. "I'm just still completely amazed at the heroic nature of our police department."

Assistant Police Chief Matt Carper named the gunman as Connor Betts, a 24-year-old white male from Bellbrook, Ohio, and said his&nbsp;sister&nbsp;Megan Betts, 22, was among those killed.

Carper told reporters the shooting began at 1 a.m. local time in Dayton's Oregon District, a historic neighbourhood popular for its nightclubs, restaurants, art galleries and shops.

The motive behind the shooting was not immediately clear, and investigators believe the individual had acted alone, Carper said.

The victims were four women and five men and ranged in age from 22 to 57, authorities said, adding that the youngest was the gunman's&nbsp;sister. Six of the nine people killed were African-American.

"There isn't much discrimination in the shooting," Carper told reporters. "It happened in a very short period of time."

Of the 27 people injured, four remained in serious condition and one person in critical, medical authorities said.

Whaley said the suspect wore body armour and fired a rifle with .223-caliber rounds from high-capacity ammunition magazines.

Had police officers not confronted the suspect as quickly as they did, "hundreds of people in the Oregon District could be dead today," the mayor said.

FBI agents were assisting in the investigation.

The shooting in Dayton, a riverfront city of about 140,000 people in southwestern Ohio, came just 13 hours after a mass shooting at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas, where 20 people were killed and 26 others wounded. The 21-year-old suspect in that shooting was arrested.

The Ohio shooting was the third major outbreak of US gun violence, coming seven days after a teenager killed three people with an assault rifle at a food festival in Northern California before taking his own life.

The latest shooting occurred outside a Dayton tavern called Ned Peppers Bar.

The Dayton Daily News cited a Facebook post from James Wilson, who said he was a customer sitting on a patio just outside the bar when the&nbsp; 
shooting occurred in front of the establishment.

"He (a gunman) tried to get into the bar but did not make it through the door," Wilson wrote. "Someone took the gun from him and he got shot and is dead."

One witness, Anthony Reynolds, said he heard gunfire that sounded like it was coming from a high-powered weapon.

"Just boom boom boom boom boom boom rapid," he said. "You could tell there's a big gun. You're not going to get those from no handgun. You're not."

Deb Decker, a spokeswoman for emergency services in Montgomery County, Ohio, told CNN the assailant had been making his way to Ned Peppers from another bar when someone grabbed the barrel of his rifle, and he drew a handgun, but was then shot as police arrived.

Two mass shootings in the United States have left 29 people dead within 24 hours, the latest such attacks in a nation torn over how to tackle gun violence.

Less than 13 hours later, a lone <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/seven-feared-dead-in-second-mass-shooting-incident-in-us-in-24-hours-240568">shooter killed nine people in Dayton, Ohio</a> early Sunday before being shot dead by responding police officers.

"We have nine victims deceased... and we have approximately 16 more victims hospitalized right now in unknown conditions," Dayton Police Lieutenant Colonel Matt Carper said.

The attacker opened fire around 1:00 am Sunday (0500 GMT) on a street in the popular bar and nightlife Oregon district.

Police were working to identify the shooter and the FBI were on the scene.

"Fortunately we had multiple officers in the immediate vicinity when this incident started so there was a very short timeline of violence, for that we've very fortunate," he said, praising the swift response by officers.

"As bad as this is, it could have been much, much worse."

Carper said the investigation would continue through the night but the attack appeared to be the work of a lone shooter.

The incident came just hours after the mass shooting at a Walmart store in Texas which has reignited debate about the US "epidemic" of gun violence.

President Donald Trump described the El Paso attack as "an act of cowardice" and police are treating it as a possible hate crime.

One suspect was taken into custody while authorities were studying an extremist manifesto purportedly written by the gunman.

Footage shot with cellphones appeared to show multiple bodies lying on the ground in the store's parking lot while other footage showed terrified shoppers running out of the store as gunfire echoed.

Police chief Greg Allen confirmed that in addition to the 20 confirmed fatalities in El Paso, there were 26 wounded.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said three Mexican citizens were killed and Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said six others were wounded.

Various news reports said the ages of victims being treated at hospitals ranged from two to 82 years.

Police said that Walmart was "at capacity" at the time of the shooting, with 1,000-3,000 customers inside.

A 21-year-old from Allen, Texas, was the only person in custody, police confirmed. US media identified him as Patrick Crusius, who is white. He surrendered to police about a block away from the Walmart.

"Right now we have a manifesto from this individual that indicates to some degree, it has a nexus to potential hate crime," Allen said.

The "manifesto" purportedly written by Crusius that was circulated online includes passages railing against the "Hispanic invasion" of Texas and the author makes clear that he expected to be killed during his attack.

Witnesses said the gunman appeared to be shooting at random when he opened fire around 10:30 am.

One woman, who gave her name as Vanessa, said she had just pulled into the Walmart parking lot when the shooting began.

"You could hear the pops, one right after another and at that point as I was turning, I saw a lady, seemed she was coming out of Walmart, headed to her car. She had her groceries in her cart and I saw her just fall," she told Fox News.

The witness said the gunman wore a black T-shirt, combat trousers and earmuffs.

"He was just shooting randomly. It wasn't to any particular person. It was any that would cross paths."

Another shopper described how he managed to avoid being hit by hiding along with his mother between two vending machines just outside the store.

"That's where the individual tried to shoot at me, which he missed cause I kind of ducked down," Robert Curado told the El Paso Times.

"He had an AK-47."

Video captured by a witness in the parking lot in the immediate aftermath of the shooting showed three people lying motionless on the ground.

One had fallen next to a truck, while two were on the sidewalk outside the store entrance.

"Ambulance! Help!" people cried as they rushed to the victims.

Beto O'Rourke, a former US congressman for El Paso who is now running for president, cut off his campaigning in the wake of the shooting.

An "active shooter"&nbsp;was reported at a<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/gunman-opens-fire-in-california-food-festival-several-injured-239108"> food festival in Gilroy, California</a> on Sunday, police said, adding that were casualties.

Police said multiple casualties were reported in the shooting.

The authorities informed that&nbsp;the "scene is still active" calling people to report to the reunification centre at Gavilan College to look for loved ones.

Founded in 1979, the Gilroy Garlic Festival features food, drink, live entertainment and cooking competitions. It says it is hosted by volunteers and describes itself as the world's greatest summer food festival.

The festival&nbsp;was being held at the outdoor Christmas Hill Park, where weapons of any kind are prohibited, according to the event's website.

The total number of hate crimes was the highest since 2008.

The FBI did not explain the increase, which came amid a perceived general rise in social and political tensions across the country marked by the election of the divisive Trump.

But it did note that more law enforcement jurisdictions were reporting hate crimes than previous years.&nbsp;

The report came after the country was shocked in recent weeks by two mass shootings, including one in which 11 Jewish worshippers were killed in a Pittsburgh synagogue by an anti-Semitic gunman, and a series of pipe bombs sent to foes of Donald Trump by a Florida supporter of the president. "He was raving hell in the house, you know, kicking holes in the walls and stuff and one of the neighbours was concerned and called the police," Richard Berge, who lived one block away from the home, told Reuters. "They couldn’t get him to come out, so it was like a standoff for four or five hours."

Berge, who took care of Long’s mother’s dogs, said she told him following that incident she worried her son might take his own life but did not fear he would hurt her.

Dean said he had been told that 150 to 200 people were in the Borderline at the time Long opened fire, adding: "It could have been much, much worse."

Asked what the scene inside the bar was like, Dean said, "Like ... hell." Earlier he had described it as "a horrific scene in there. There is blood everywhere and the suspect is part of that."

The Ventura County Sheriff`s Department said 21 people had been treated for injuries and released at area hospitals.

An armed high school teacher in Georgia barricaded himself alone inside his classroom on Wednesday and fired a gunshot when the principal tried to force open the door, but no one was seriously injured, police said after the instructor was arrested.

The incident unfolded as schools around the country remain on edge from a shooting rampage at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in which 17 students and educators were killed.

In response to that massacre, allegedly carried out by a former student, US President Donald Trump has said teachers should be allowed to carry concealed firearms on school campuses.

The incident at Dalton High School, about 90 miles (145 km) north of Atlanta, the Georgia capital, began when a group of students tried to enter a classroom and found that their teacher would not let them in, Bruce Frazier of the Dalton Police Department said.

When the principal arrived and tried opening the door with a key, a single gunshot was heard from inside the room, prompting a security lockdown and evacuation of the school as police were notified and the school&rsquo;s resource officer was summoned, Frazier said.

Responding to reports of gunfire at the school, officers from the Dalton Police Department found the teacher holed up inside the classroom with a handgun. He was taken into custody about 30 to 45 minutes later, Frazier told reporters.

The suspect was identified as Jesse Randal Davidson, 53, a social studies teacher at the school who police said also serves as the play-by-play announcer for the Dalton High School football team. Police initially spelt the teacher`s middle name differently.

Davidson was charged with aggravated assault, carrying a weapon on school grounds, terroristic threats, reckless conduct, possession of the gun during the commission of a crime and disrupting public school, the Dalton Police Department said on Twitter.

Only one minor injury was reported on Wednesday - a girl who hurt her ankle while fleeing in the pandemonium, Frazier said. The gunshot went out a classroom window but did not strike anyone.

Frazier said he had no immediate explanation of what may have precipitated the incident, and he declined to say whether he believed it stemmed from a suicide attempt.

&quot;This teacher apparently did not want to involve students in this incident in any way,&quot; Frazier added.

Dalton High School Principal Steve Bartoo said at an afternoon press conference that Davidson was considered an excellent teacher who was well thought of and &quot;fit to work&quot; at the school.

The alleged gunman, who shot and wounded a US consulate official in Mexico&#39;s western city of Guadalajara on Friday, has been arrested, prosecutors said on Sunday.

US consular official injured in firing by gunman in Mexico

The man who had been wounded in the mall shooting in America&#39;s Washington state died overnight, taking the toll from the attack to five. &nbsp; 
 
A man walked into the Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington, about 65 miles (105 km) north of Seattle and began shooting at about 7 pm local time on Friday, Washington State Patrol spokesman Mark Francis said on Twitter. 
 
A man who was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries died overnight, Francis said to the New York Times on Saturday, Reuters reported.&nbsp; 
 
A manhunt is underway to nab the assailant, police said.&nbsp;Local authorities searched all night long for the gunman, believed to be armed with a rifle, and warned residents to remain inside, Reuters reported.
